World Championship: Nigeria’s Ese Brume wins long jump silver

Nigerian long jumper  Ese Brume finished second and won silver in the women’s long jump at the World Athletics Championship held in  Oregon, USA

Brume leaped to 7.02m to finish second behind Germany’s Jumper Malaika Mihambo.

German Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo continued her dominance in the women’s long jump by winning her second successive World Championship gold with a final leap of 7.12 meters on Sunday.

Brume’s leap of 7.02m, was an improvement on her third-place finish at the last championship held two years ago.

Mihambo also beat Brume to gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

However, Brazil’s Leticia Oro Melo took the bronze medal after finishing with 6.89m to emerge third best.

Brume’s podium finish came just minutes after Tobi Amusan won a maiden World Championship gold for Nigeria in the 100m hurdles.

And the world record holder was on hand to celebrate with her Team Nigeria buddy.

The Silver medal is an improvement on the Bronze she won she won in Doha in 2019. Brume, Olympic Bronze medallist finished behind Germany’s Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo who leaped 7.12m. Brazil’s Leticia Oro Melo jumped 6.89m to take Bronze
