The Kano State Government has set aside N1.7 billion in the 2017 proposed budget for the construction of more than 400 Community Health Centers across the state, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Getso, said.
The commissioner made the disclosure at a news conference on Tuesday after he defended funds allocated to the ministry for the 2017 fiscal year before the Kano State House of Assembly’s Committee on Health.
Getso said the community health centers would be constructed in 484 council wards of the state.
He explained that the school of Nursing and Midwifery at Danbatta Local Government Area would serve as training institution for personnel that would provide services in the proposed health centers.
Getso said the measure was part of the state government’s efforts to ensure effective and efficient health service delivery at the grassroots.
In a related development, the Rector, Kano State Polytechnic, Prof. Moukhtar Atiku, said N172 million had been allocated to the institution for capital and recurrent expenditure for the coming year.
Atiku said out of the amount, N100 million had been set aside for courses accreditation of various schools under the Polytechnic.
According to him, the remaining N72 million will be used for capital projects, including general renovation of the School of Rural and Community Development, Rano, Kano.
