Ekiti 2018: Lies won’t save you from defeat – Fayemi tells Fayose

The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of spreading “irresponsible lies”, saying that lies will not save the governor and his candidate, Prof Olusola Eleka, from defeat in the July 14 governorship poll.

Fayose had at the weekend on the state radio accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, of planning to compromise INEC in the July 14 poll, saying also that Fayemi planned to ban okada operations and sack workers through competency tests if he wins the governorship election.

But reacting on Sunday, Director of Media and Publicity of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, said Fayose’s lies will not save him from defeat, as “Ekiti people were done with a fraudulent and callous administration that manipulates the people always for selfish motives”.

He said: “Fayose is haunted by his past when he criminally manipulated INEC to win 2014 election as revealed in Captain Sagir Koli audio tape where Fayose himself was heard talking about how he collected INEC sensitive materials he said he printing, including talking about how the results of the election of June 21 was collated in Efon-Alaaye on June 19, two days before the election and as was corroborated by PDP State Secretary, Tope Aluko, in his testimony to the security agencies.

“Fayemi never plans to sack okada operators as he always insists, instead, he will strengthen their operations like he once did when he bought over 150 motorcycles and helmets for Okada Association Cooperative Society to improve their living conditions.

“Instead of sacking workers, Fayemi during his campaign visits in the last two weeks always insisted that he will never sack workers, instead, he will develop a policy that will encourage job creation as one of the cardinal programmes of his Eight-point Agenda.”

Olujobi berated Fayose for always employing lies to achieve the “ignoble objective of robbing Ekiti people all the time and at all times”.

Describing the governor as a man in need of salvation from leading a life of lies, Fayemi’s spokesman explained: “The only thing that Nigerians and indeed peoples of the world must believe in Fayose is when they see him breathing, which is the evidence that he is still living; everything else is fake and lies.

“Fayose’s show of shame as a pathological liar at the Ado Ekiti High Court hearing of a libel suit he filed against Femi Falana (SAN) and TheNews magazine in 2006 over alleged defamation of character typifies the life of lies he leads.

“In the open court during cross-examination, Fayose recklessly lied and lied so much that the presiding Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, who is now the Chief Judge of the state, and all the counsel in the court, including Fayose’s lawyers, were watching and shaking their heads in disbelief as Fayose lied and lied so much that he was also contradicting himself.

“During judgement, Justice Daramola told Fayose that he was an incorrigible liar, as he was found to be lying throughout the cross-examination, and consequently, the judge dismissed the case, telling Fayose that he had no integrity to protect.

“Fayose, about 60 years old and grandfather, lied for more than a year denying that he ever collected N2b Ecological Fund and monthly N1.3b Budget Support Facility for 13 months.

“In the case of the N2b ecological fund, Fayose never owned up collecting the money until he got information that APC planned to approach the Ecological Fund office in Abuja for confirmation.

“The same week he owned up, he announced Ecological project contract totalling exactly N2b, even though up till now, there is no evidence of ecological project anywhere in the state, as floods ravaged the state early in April.

“As for the budget support fund he collected to pay workers salary, for long, Fayose denied collecting the facility until the Federal Government published the figures, the same way he denied borrowing one naira until DMO published the states’ debts showing that Fayose had borrowed N56b between 2014 and 2018.

“Unfortunately, this is the man Ekiti people are doomed to have as their governor and who Nigerians and other peoples of the world read in the news as leading Ekiti people renowned for integrity, learning and honour.”

Describing Fayose as the Pharaoh in the life of Ekiti people, Olujobi said Ekiti people were set to return from Egypt, “and there is no amount of lies that will make them vote for Prof Olusola Eleka who the governor is propping to sustain his continuity agenda for mass poverty while Fayose and his family enjoy the life of bliss”.

  • Russia 2018 : Germany players banned from sex, using social media

Germany coach, Joachim Low, has banned his players from having sex during this summer’s World Cup.

Low does not want the players’ partners ruining his preparations in Russia, with players forced to ask for special permission to see their other halves and even their children.

But they will be banned from such contact during the tournament.

Social media will also be prohibited for the likes of Mesut Ozil, Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller and Marco Reus.

According to Gazetta dello Sport, Low will however allow the holders to drink, to help boost team spirits, with the boss insisting: “The team is more important than the ego.”

Germany have started their preparations for the World Cup by training in South Tyrol, in north-east Italy this week.

Manuel Neuer is fighting for fitness ahead of the tournament after only managing four appearances for Bayern Munich last season due to a metatarsal injury.

Neuer has been involved in session with Bernd Leno, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Kevin Trapp and is battling the trio for three goalkeeper places on the plane.

“I’m in good shape,” Neuer, who will play 45 minutes next week, said after training.

“I think the coaches are very happy, the fitness coaches, too. They’ve got me in great condition. I’m not holding back, that’d be bad advice for a goalkeeper.”

They open their friendlies with a clash with Austria on Saturday before taking on Saudi Arabia a week on Friday.

Germany are in Group F with Mexico, South Korea and Sweden – getting their campaign off and running against the Mexicans on June 17.

Five top finalists, including Miracle, Tobi, Cee C, Nina and Alex are in the race for the all-important grand prize. At the end of last Sunday’s show, Anto, Lolu and Khloe, the trio who polled the least number of votes, were evicted from the #BBNaija house, leaving five housemates to battle for the prize.

While this third season of the reality show tagged “Double Wahala” has been punctuated with breakups, makeups and a dirty fight that led to the disqualification of two housemates, the show equally has lived up to its billing as the most watched show across the continent.

Recall that three weeks into the show, housemates Khloe and her strategic partner K Brule were disqualified from the game for quarreling, using profane words on each other, an act that is against the big brother house rules. However, Khloe was lucky to return into the house when big brother presented an opportunity for two evicted housemates to be voted back into the house.

This opportunity saw Khloe and Anto who had also been evicted earlier on, return into the big brother house. Also, after staying three weeks in the house, Princess, Bitto, DeeOne and Vandora were evicted on the first live eviction show of the season hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchenndu, making them the first set of housemates to be evicted from the show. As the weeks went by, Ahneeka, Angel, Leo, IfuEnnada, Teddy A, Bam Bam, Rico Swavey, Anto, Khloe and Lolu were evicted respectively from the show, leaving behind five housemates to battle for the grand prize.

  • APC proposes N14bn budget for 2018

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has proposed a budget of N14.82 billion for its activities in 2018.

This was contained in a memo titled “Financial report for 2016, 2017 and presentation of 2018 budget to the National Caucus”, item 8 on the agenda of the meeting, according to a report by The Punch.

The memo was distributed to members of the party’s caucus at the last meeting held on Monday.

The budget, which was prepared and presented to the APC National Caucus by the party’s National Treasurer, Bala Gwagwarwa, noted that out of this fund, the party hopes to acquire a National Secretariat at the cost of N1.96 billion and spend N1.3 billion on convention.

The budget also proposed N400 million for election expenses and N500 million to procure vehicles.

Other expenses include: Grants to states/ zones; N400 million, membership registration; N25 million, women/ youth activities; N2 million, legal costs; N2 million, and N2.48 billion was earmarked for reimbursement to states and zones.

The party said it intends to finance this budget largely from the nomination fees, fundraising, levies on elected and appointed office holders and the sale of party membership cards.

The memo read in part: “Looking ahead of 2018 which is an election year budget, a lot of activities ranging from the organisation of congresses/ primaries, conventions, sensitisation meetings and campaigns are expected.

The budget must inevitably have to be robust, flexible and capable of being implemented. Baring this in mind, a budget of N14.82bn as shown in the Annexure 2 is being proposed.

The main sources of income for the 2018 budget are nomination fees (N5.86bn), fundraising (N3.45 bn), membership dues (N4.2 bn), sales of party cards (N1.0 bn), and levies on Elected/Appointed Office holders (N 0.304bn).”

On the expenditure side, the major items are: Acquisition of national secretariat (N1. 96bn), conventions (N1.3bn), media /publicity (N1bn), election expenses (N0.4bn), vehicles (N0.05bn), grants to states/zones (N0.4bn), membership registration (N0.2bn), reimbursements to states and zones (N2.48bn).”

In order to ensure funding stability and respectable budget implementation, membership contribution has been identified as crucial.”

Accordingly, a framework to deploy electronic payment system that assures convenience, transparency and ease of reconciliation of payment has been designed.”

This system allows the use of airtime to pay the monthly N100 membership dues by members while bigger payments can be transacted through banking channels customised for the party in all banks.”

This system has been substantially completed except for the negotiation of the revenue sharing formula between the party and the telecoms companies whose platform will be used in collecting the payment and regulatory impediments will soon be resolved, which will substantially support the party’s on-going discussions on revenue sharing formula with the telecoms companies.”

The treasurer, Mr Bala explained in the memo that due to the difficulty faced by the party with its planned engagement of telecoms firms to ease the collection of fees, it has engaged the services of “System Spec (Remita)” as an alternative channel for collection of membership fees and hopes this would be inaugurated soon.

Based on the membership strength of about 10 million and 35 per cent success in collection of membership fees, we are confident that this system will provide sustainable funding for the party.”
