  • Breaking: INEC server shutdown, transmission of results affected, alleges PDP Spokesman

Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is shutdown, impeding transmission of results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports Ologbodiyan, in a statement on Sunday, alleges the reason for the shutdown is to enable the APC to inflate figures from six designated states.

The statement reads: “PDP charges INEC to immediately announce results as delivered from the polling units and declare the people’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the winner of the February 23 Presidential election.

“Our position is predicated on clear and verifiable results across the nation, showing that Atiku Abubakar is in clear lead both in spread and total number of votes cast.

“Intelligence available to us is that INEC is delaying the announcement of results following directives by the Buhari Presidency and APC which are bent on altering the figures from the polling centers and allocate fictitious figures for President Buhari particularly in the North.

“Curiously, INEC server is now shut down, results are no more being transmitted and the reason is to enable the APC to inflate figures from six designated states.

“We call on international observers and election monitors to insist on a transparent process of transmission of results and the monitoring thereof.

“We already have reports of how APC governors in the northern states have been making desperate effort to tamper with the results of the elections in their respective states with the view to award conjured votes to President Buhari.

“In Kogi state, Governor Yahaya Bello has been making frantic moves to change results to suit APC’s intent and purposes as against the wishes of the people, expressly delivered at the polls.

“Nigerians already know how the Minister of Transportation and the DG of Buhari Campaign, Rotimi Amaechi, used the military to hold an INEC official in River state, Mrs. Mary Efeturi, hostage and insisted that she will not be released until she alters the results in favour of Buhari

“The PDP calls on INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to note that in this age of Information Communication Technology, Nigerians already have the results as delivered at the polling centers and any attempt to alter any figure will be faced with vehement resistance.

“In delaying the announcement of the results, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu is allowing the APC to turn him into a villain and directly pitching him against the people. He should therefore extricate himself from the rejected APC and be on the side of the people by immediately announcing the results as already delivered at the polling units and declare, the people’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the winner.

“Anything short of this is not acceptable to Nigerians, who had already expressed their wishes and aspiration at the polls”.

  • Elections in Rivers: Abe mourns death of LG ex-Chair

The Magnus Ngei Abe has mourned the death of the former Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area and others who lost their lives in the needless orgy of violence in Rivers State and warns politicians to avoid spilling blood.

Abe, in a statement he personally signed on Saturday warned against playing politics of bitterness and spilling of blood.

He stated that politics must grow beyond primitive level, even as he called for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the heinous murders of innocent Rivers men and women.

The statement reads, “Unbelievable! My friend and longtime associate, Hon. Mowan Etete and other innocent Rivers people are dead today simply because they came out to answer the call of their country and perform their civic obligation.

“I had warned repeatedly that we should not stoke the drums of war and Rivers people should no longer forgive any politician no matter how highly placed that is culpable in the orgy of violence that has characterized our recent past.

“Our politics must begin to move beyond the primitive stage. No politician should continue to claim the power to deliver any unit not to talk of a ward, a local government or a state.

“We must imbibe the true spirit of democracy which means that the vote of the Governor, the vote of the Minister, the vote of the Senator and the vote of the Commissioner and that of the Chairman will have the same value as that of the Bricklayer, the Driver, the Nurse, and the Unemployed Youth.

“No one should have the power to promise or guarantee the vote of one Nigerian to a third party.

“If you are good to your people, you can appeal to them but you must respect their wishes where it differs from your own,” he stated.

The statement further said that the murder of Mowan, and other men and women today must be treated as the heinous crime that it is. It is not just the gunmen but those behind the scenes who planned and orchestrated that violence must also be brought to book.

He maintained that Rivers state must grow beyond the politics of blood, saying, “We can no longer allow our dear state to be a byword for electoral violence and bloodshed in the comity of states”.

“As we speak, we are yet to ascertain the exact number of Rivers men and women that were murdered today in the name of elections. We have to confront the situation as a community and put a stop to it. No perpetrator should go unpunished”, Senator Abe said.

“We are considering taking care of the welfare and safety of our personnel involved in the election,” Effanga said.

In his response, Mr Enabor Edwin, the Head of Voters Education (HOD), also said that the alleged fake result sheet by APC agents in Bonny was a fake report.

Edwin said that the materials were inspected at the Central Bank premises before they were moved to their various local government areas.

“We have got in touch with the CP and has also got in touch with the Garrison Commander here, who said they will send some security men to go to the area.

“The security would be there until the election is over so that the miscreants would not disrupt the election again.

“We heard that two of our units in Emoha were disrupted but that has not stop the election to continue in that area, the election officer said that the election is still ongoing in the area.

“We are also aware of an alleged report from Okrika area that the election materials were carted away by hoodlums.

“We heard that people who carted away the materials were led by a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of that local government area.

“And this report had been made to the Commissioner of Police (CP), who has been making calls to get the DPO so that the issue would be taking care of.

“Elections are going on smoothly in Obiakpor, we also got a report from Abonema that some people want to disrupt the election, but the security personnel are on their way now to arrest the situation,” Edwin said.

Similarly, Mr Precious Elekima, the Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic party (SDP), who is from Abonema told NAN on telephone that he was yet to cast his vote as at 2.49 p.m.

  • 2019 elections: Senator denies snatching ballot boxes

Sen. Ita Enang, the Senior Special Adviser to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters has denied allegations that he hijacked ballot boxes in Akwa Ibom.

He was reacting to allegations by the electorate at Unit 12, ward 2, Ididep in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state where he hails from.

Chief Anthony Bassey, the Village Elect of Ididep and his people protested over their inability to vote, claiming that Enang hijacked their ballot boxes and took them to his house.

Bassey alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had disenfranchised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) electorate in Unit 12, ward 2 in Ididep.

He alleged that Enang brought thugs to beat them when they were trying to protest the situation.

“Look at my subjects, we all have our PVCs as you can see but we did not vote. We reported to INEC and the police but nothing has been done.

“See our PVCs, and our fingers. Election is over and Enang is responsible,’’ the village head said.

Enang confirmed that there was snatching of ballot boxes and violence but, however, explained that he never hijacked the election process as he was not even at the polling units.

“I cannot hijack ballot boxes, I wasn’t even there when the materials arrived the polling units,’’ Enang said.

He decried the absence of security personnel in the polling units in Ibiono Ibom LGA, saying that there was so much violence in the area.

Enang said that there were sporadic gun shots by unknown gunmen and hijacking of ballot boxes by supporters of the opposition party in the state.

Reacting to the allegation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Spokesman in the state, Mr Emem Iniobong said Enang had precedence for ballot box snatching as well as diverting voting to his house at Ididep.

He also alleged that Enang relocated the polling units in the community to his house.

Iniobong also accused Enang of being responsible for the shootings.
