2019: There will be bloodshed in Nigeria- Ebuka
Nigerian media personality, Ebuka Obi Uchendu has shared his opinion over the anticipated 2019 general elections.
Ebuka stated that “there will blood”, apparently referring to a possible violence before or during the poll.
Recall that the contest of who becomes Nigeria’s next president entered another dimension last weekend as both the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presented their flag-bearers to Nigerians.
President Muhammadu Buhari emerged unopposed from the ruling party, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defeated 11 other aspirants, including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Senate President, David Mark; Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and others to emerge as PDP’s standard-bearer.
Ebuka in his tweet said that the next couple of months, between now and the election will be very interesting.
According to him, “Its going to be a very interesting couple of months between now and the elections. There’ll be blood.”

2019: This is our last chance- Chris Okotie
Rev. Chris Okotie, Fresh Party presidential candidate and founder of the Household of God church has said 2019 is Nigeria’s opportunity to get it right.
Okotie, who recently renewed his ambition to run for the President of the country in 2019 said the Nigerian society has become more sophisticated, adding that people are praying for a divine intervention.
Okotie made this known in an interview with Punch.
“I’m saying that there is a presumption that the political class think that nothing can happen, and it is called arrogance because they feel they have a measure of control over the people. There was a time that the PDP said they would be in government for 60 years and the APC has also fallen into that same mode, thinking it would govern Nigeria for as long as it likes. And there is nothing wrong with that because it is just political braggadocio. But what I’m saying is that if they are observant, they would notice that the Nigerian society has become more sophisticated than it used to be.
“People are praying and hoping that there would be a divine intervention because a power that is higher than their power must intercept this process. I believe God would do it because we have been praying across the nation like in the days of the late Sani Abacha (military head of state). Something is going to happen and I can tell you that confidently; and that would bring all of us to a table to dialogue with one another about the future of this nation. It’s not going to end the same way it did in 2015, because if it does, this nation is headed for a civil war or some catastrophe and that’s not what anybody wants. That is why I’m saying it is the last chance Nigeria has to turn away from this route”. -
We'll revive refineries to full functional capacity before end of 2019 – Kachikwu
The Minster of State for Petroleum Ibe kachukwu on Thursday assured Nigerians that the federal government will do everything possible to revive refineries in the country to full functional capacity before end of 2019.
The minister said it will be sad if the nation’s refineries are not functional by the end of next year.
He added that the administration is committed to ensuring that the importation of petroleum products is curtailed.
Kachukwu spoke at Ibigwe-Ohaji in Ohaji\Egbema council area of Imo State during the ground-breaking for construction of the 5,000 BPD Modular Refinery by Walter Smith petro-chemical limited.
The project is being partnered by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB)
He said that the Buhari administration was committed to ensuring that the nation’s refineries became functional by the end of 2019.
“It would be sad if by the end of 2019 we are still importing fuel from abroad.
“So, we are committed in repairing the refineries; by that we can at least process about 500,000 barrels of crude per day.
The policy of this administration is `go back to refining about 20 per cent of our crude which will move to 50 per cent in the next five years’.
The Minister who commended management of Walter Smith for partnering the NCDMB to realize the project said that he was hopeful that in 18 months the modular refinery would be inaugurated.
Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Mr Kesiye Wabote, said the Board invested US $10 million to catalyze the development of the Modular refinery and took 30 per cent equity in the project.
He added that the NCDMB would divest when the modular refinery was fully developed and operational.
Wabote pointed out that NCDMB was promoting the Walter Smith Modular refinery as part of its capacity development mandate .
He said that the investment was also in line with the Nigeria Content 10- year strategic plan.
The Chairman of Walter Smith , Mr Abdulrazaq Isa, said that the Walter Smith 5,000 BPD Modular refinery was conceptualized in 2011 to mitigate the frequent outage of the third-party export trans-Niger pipeline.
He added that it was to optimize the full value of the country’s produced crude through in-country products for the domestic market .
“When operational in 18 months time we will.produce per day: Naphtha – 24,643 liters, Kerosene – 54,691 liters, Diesel – 300,168 liters, HPFO – 409,710 liters.
“The refined products will be sold and evacuated from the refinery via dedicated trucks from bay five truck rack where products are loaded into the tankers.

2019: CAN to deploy 300 electoral observers
The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Samson Ayokunle, said the association had finalised plans to train 300 electoral observers to monitor the 2019 elections.
Mr Ayokunle, spoke on Monday at the First Christian Leaders Roundtable Summit organised by Legacy Initiative International in Lagos.
He said the observers who would be drawn from the six geopolitical zones would be trained at a cost of N12 million.
“Fifty people will be trained from each region, who will in turn train others.
“Our plan is to deploy three observers to each polling unit and we have already applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for observer status.
“INEC on its part must strive to remain as an impartial umpire because what we have seen in the last two elections in Ekiti and Osun States left much to be desired due to complaints of intimidation of party agents, vote buying and violence,” Mr Ayokunle said.
Earlier, the Grand Patron of Legacy Initiative International, Chief Kenny Martins, said the 58th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria was a sober day for reflections on how the country’s fortunes could be turned around.
“The journey of Nigeria needs to begin today. At 58, we are still yearning for the most basic things like road, water, housing, transportation among other infrastructure,” Mr Martins said.
He said the group was willing to work with CAN and the leadership of the Muslim faithful to draw a template together on the minimum expectations of the inter-faith community from those vying for elections into public offices in Nigeria.
Mr Martins said the inter-faith community would also organise a National Peace Convention for all registered political parties and INEC.
He said that this was with a view to getting them sign a peace pact to keep peace during elections and abide by the rules and regulations. -

Senate President has on Thursday officially declared to contest in the 2019 Presidential election.
“…taking account of the challenges that I have outlined, I announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the General Elections 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).” – Bukola Saraki.#NotTooYoungToRun pic.twitter.com/ngQCKKZ0Hb

1.Let me say, once again, how wonderful it is to see so many talented and purposeful young people at this first edition of the Public Dialogue Series with Political Parties on Youth Candidacy and Party Primaries. Looking at you, I see future leaders who present themselves as capable and worthy to take on the mantle of leadership in this country, and this gladdens my heart.2.From my interactions with many of you, and with your contemporaries across the country, I can see that we are blessed with a determined generation that stands ready to join with us to power a Nigerian renaissance. The quality of people I see here today affirms my belief that, indeed, you are Not Too Young To Run.3.I deeply appreciate this opportunity to share some of my ideas about where we are as a nation, as well as the challenges before us as we approach the great decider that is the 2019 General Elections.4.It is widely acknowledged that ours is a relatively ‘young’ country bursting with tremendous energy, ability and potential. More than 70 per cent of our population is under the age of 40. You are indeed the future of this country. Ordinarily, such a young population would be the envy of many Western countries that are faced with ageing populations, but the dire state of our affairs tarnishes the youthful advantage that we have.5.Up and down our country today, Nigerians are crying out for succour. Many of our children are hungry. Many people are dying of avoidable or otherwise treatable diseases. Many have fallen below basic living standards, and are now among the 87 million that sealed Nigeria’s position as the country with the highest number of people in extreme poverty. Our young people lack opportunities. The necessary education facilities and system to equip them for the future simply do not exist. We are not creating the jobs needed to usefully engage them in order to grow our economy. And too often, the youth feel shut out, prevented from having any say in the direction of this nation.6.The harsh conditions of extreme poverty faced by the people, fuels the state of insecurity all over the country. Hunger, lack of education and lack of opportunities push many Nigerians into criminal activities including terrorism. Many of our communities are paralysed with fear – due to incessant communal crises, kidnappings and other social ills, as well as the threat of terrorism. We are failing abysmally to tackle the problems of today and to prepare for the future.7.Our economy is broken and is in need of urgent revival in order for Nigeria to grow. GDP growth rate has declined. Diversification remains an illusion. Unemployment is at an all-time high. Businesses are shutting down. Jobs are being lost in record numbers, and the capital needed to jumpstart our economy is going elsewhere.8.Nigeria is perhaps more divided now than ever before. We are increasingly divided along regional, religious and ethnic lines. Nigerians are also divided by class, a festering gulf between the ‘Haves’ and the ‘Have-Nots’. The fault lines of this nation are widening to an alarming degree. We must do something fast, and we must be brave about it.9.We must ensure the security of lives in Nigeria. As things stand now, no one is safe in this country. No one feels truly safe. We must restore the sanctity of the rule of law and strengthen democratic institutions in order to build a just, fair and equitable society for all. We must rebuild the trust of our people in government. We need a new generation of leaders that are competent, with the capability to rise to the challenges of the 21st century. We must pull this country back together and rebuild, block by block, with dedication and commitment.10.You will agree with me that this is an urgent task that requires the concerted efforts of each and every one of us. If we look around today, what do we see? What is the condition of our citizens? Where are we as a nation? How are we perceived locally and internationally? Why are we not making the expected progress? Why are we not growing? There is no time to waste. The time is now, to come together to stimulate growth in Nigeria, especially in the national economy.11. The choice we face in the forthcoming election is either to keep things as they are, or make a radical departure from the old ways. To find a better way of doing things or keep repeating the mistakes of the past. To fix the problems or keep compounding them.12.It is with all these in mind, and taking account of the challenges that I have outlined, that I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President. Accordingly, I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the coming General Elections in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). I do so with the firm conviction that I have what it takes to secure inclusive growth for Nigeria and Nigerians.13.My Plan for Nigeria has inclusion in all aspects of the country’s affairs as a central pillar. Every citizen has the inalienable right to feel a sense of belonging, no matter their background or creed, or what part of the country they come from. No matter who you voted for or what your convictions are, government must work for you.14.Your generation does not deserve to live in the poverty capital of the world. It is no longer an issue of how we got here, but how do we get out of this situation? I promise you that I will lead the fight and employ every God-given resource available to us in turning things around. I am determined to grow Nigeria out of poverty. We will stimulate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as one of the ways of energising the economy and to create wealth for our people, especially the youth.15. I want to see the youth play major roles at all levels, not only in government but also in the private sector and indeed in every area of Nigerian life. This will be a government driven by youthful energy, innovation and a pioneering entrepreneurial spirit. Nigerian youth will be given all the opportunities to realise their potential to the full within a national framework that guarantees inclusiveness. For youth who have ideas and capacity, we will make sure that there is funding for their ventures; and we shall build on the Made in Nigeria legislation as part of our job creation drive.16.My plan is to secure Nigeria by redesigning our national security architecture, while adequately equipping our security agencies to fulfil their primary role of protecting lives and property.17. I will address our infrastructural deficit through aggressive financing initiatives including mutually beneficial PPP arrangements, regular floating of bonds and other financial instruments, which will ensure stable, adequate and reliable funding to see to the completion of core projects especially road, rail and power.18.My plan is to protect all Nigerians and defend their constitutional rights and freedoms. I will stand for and uphold at all times the principle of the rule of law, which is the bedrock of democratic governance.19. Ours will not be a selective fight against corruption. The emphasis will be on strengthening institutions, with a particular focus on deterrence. We cannot afford to compromise our institutions with proxy wars against perceived political opponents. We see the fight against corruption as crucial to Nigeria’s economic development.20.I offer leadership driven by empathy. Where leaders are responsive to the citizens. Where they know that government cares. We will not be indifferent or turn a blind eye to the real concerns of our people. Every single Nigerian life matters.21. For me, the leadership we deserve is one that will be a source of pride to all Nigerians, one that will be respected and admired in Africa and around the world. It should be a leadership that can hold its own and stand tall anywhere in the world. That is the type of leadership I offer.22.As a former two-term Governor and currently President of the Senate by the grace of God, I believe I possess a unique blend of executive and legislative experience to push for and implement reforms that will deliver real improvements in the daily lives of our people. I know what it takes to create jobs and grow the economy. I can make the tough decisions when it matters. I will spearhead a new agenda that can transform the lives of ordinary Nigerians in real terms.23. Believe me when I say that it will not be business as usual. This will be a dynamic government of action that will pursue the growth of Nigeria with doggedness, determination and conviction. I will lead a result-driven administration. We shall set targets with clear timelines to ensure that anticipated deliverables are met. You can benchmark us and hold us accountable. In short, I assure you that I will deliver on all promises. What I envision is a new chapter in governance in this country. We will be driven by what is best for Nigerians.25.I have deliberately chosen the opportunity of being here with you, my Number One constituency who I see as the future of our great country, to make my intention known. I believe the Nigerian youth are critical to rebuilding and growing the economy, and restoring our national pride.26. I therefore ask you and all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with me in this noble cause. My brothers, My sisters, Let’s Grow Nigeria Together.God bless you all.God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON. -

NASS committee adopts N143bn INEC budget for 2019 polls
The Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adopted a budget of N143billion for the funding of the 2019 general elections.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Suleiman Nazif, disclosed this to reporters on Monday in Abuja.
This followed a meeting of the Joint Committee held behind closed doors at the National Assembly complex in the nation’s capital.
Senator Nazif explained that after much deliberation, the Committee decided to adopt the sum of N143bn forwarded to Parliament by President Muhammadu Buhari and not the N189bn proposed by INEC.
Earlier, President Buhari asked the National Assembly to transfer N143bn from projects it inserted into the 2018 budget to fund next year’s elections, while a balance of N46bn should be included in the 2019 budget.
He had also criticised the lawmakers for reducing allocations for some projects and including thousands of others into the 2018 budget without consulting with the Executive.
INEC, on the other hand, requested for both N143bn and N46bn in one tranche to conduct the general elections.
The Joint Committee, however, asked the electoral body to resubmit a budget of N143bn to the National Assembly.

2019: We will send APC packing from Lagos – ADP
The Action Democratic Party (ADP)on Sunday said it would dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos by winning the governorship election in 2019.
The Chairman of the party, Mr Adewale Bolaji said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said the party had mapped out the right strategy to ensure that the APC was sent packing in the state.
Bolaji said that the ADP had the people to win the state for the party, and was banking on the confidence reposed in it by residents to sack the APC.
“Our great party will defeat the APC government in Lagos in 2019, we are confident.
“We have the strategy, we have the people, we have the commitment to give the state the credible alternative leadership it deserves.
“We will not reveal much on how we are going to win the state .We will unleash it at the right time.
“Our party is focussed and resolute in our determination to rescue Lagos to deliver real democratic dividends to the people,” he said.
Bolaji said that the APC had not provided exemplary and impactful leadership to optimise the state’s potential.
He noted that it was high time the youths who had the greatest voting power were given leadership opportunities, instead of continually relying on peanuts in the name of empowerment.
“That is what we are going to do in Lagos. We will engage the youths and give them the opportunities to be governors, lawmakers and so on.
“Most of the present leaders in the country became leaders in their 30s and 40s.
“We believe it is the time for the youths to take active part in determining the future of the country,” he said.
Another chieftain of the party, Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi, said Lagos had the potential to be like Singapore in view of the huge economic potential.
Gbadamosi, an ADP governorship aspirant, said the state would to get to such level with the right leadership.
