2023 Elections: Buhari warns politicians against rigging

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday has revealed that he will never involve in rigging, adding that politicians should work hard to get the mandate of electorates.

Buhari advised those who may be planning to use their offices or security agencies to subvert the will of the people to have a rethink because he would not allow them to have their way.

He made this statement while receiving top government officials at his official residence inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to commemorate his 77th birthday.

Buhari further explained that non-interference in the political process said non-interference in elections gave credence to the political process, ensured participation and inclusiveness, and showed that the governing APC respected the electorate.

“We will not allow anyone to use personal resources or their influence to intimidate other Nigerians. We will not allow intimidation materially, morally, or physically. This is the kind of leadership that can emerge and consolidate our nation.

“In six months, Nigerians will appreciate the government of APC that we are sincere and we respect them,’’ he added.

Subsequently, President Buhari, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) political leaders to intensify efforts in “thinking, meeting and strategizing for the 2023 elections.’’

He assured Nigerians that the APC would continue to bequeath strong political institutions that reflected their choices, through non-interference in elections, citing the outcome of polls in Ekiti, Anambra, and the Osun States as indicators.

President Buhari said APC, under his leadership, will continue to respect Nigerians by ensuring that their votes count and the people’s voice matters in choosing political leaders at different levels.

The 2023 general elections will commence in February 2022, with the presidential election fixed for the 28th of the same month.

2023: Wike speaks on PDP Crisis, says something will happen soon

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has finally spoken about the crisis bedeviling the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)

Wike said nothing has happened yet but something will happen soon.

The Rivers-born politician made the assertion during the flag-off of Eneka Internal Roads in the Obio-Akpor area of the state insinuating that his stance as to who to support for the 2023 presidency will be announced.

Recall that Wike has been at loggerheads with some leaders of the party including a presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over the outcome of the party’s choice for the vice presidential slot.

According to the former presidential aspirant, nobody can threaten him over any action he chooses to take, stressing that he would do what is right no matter the “gang up” against him.

Wike said, “Anybody who knows me knows that once I have made up my mind and I believe that what I am doing is right, if you like, let the whole people team up, as far as my conscience is clear, I will do what is right at all times; It doesn’t matter any gang up.

“All of us should be calm; you’ve heard what is happening in PDP. Nothing has happened yet but by the grace of God; something will happen.”

Wike and his loyalists in the main opposition party had demanded the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu as a condition to restore peace to the party.

2023: Dele Momodu relays encounter with Oluremi Tinubu, reveals who he will support for presidency

Ovation Magazine publisher and presidential aspirant under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Dele Momodu has recounted his encounter with the wife of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Oluremi Tinubu at an event in Lagos.

Momodu recounted what transpired between him and Oluremi on his Instagram page.

He said his decision to support the PDP candidate was born out of respect for his party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Momodu noted that the ruling APC hasn’t done well and his mission is to support someone to unseat them.

He said,  “Only two people, apart from the photographers, witnessed what happened between me and Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday, at the funeral service of Chief Kemi Nelson at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church in Ikeja, Lagos.

“Before some people add salt and pepper (sic) to it, I need to state precisely what happened. Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Dr. Tunji Olowolafe and I had walked in about the same time and we went to greet my very dear sister, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Immediately she saw me, we exchanged our usual pleasantries, and then she asked me, “So, Bob  Dee, you’re not going to campaign for my husband?” I smiled and remained very calm before replying, “Your Excellency, I’m in PDP.” She didn’t find it funny and regaled us with the past I shared with her husband and I tried to calm her down.

“Anyway, I went back to my seat and pondered on what just happened and I soliloquized. Before the PDP primary, I had been asked repeatedly by journalists if I’ll dump PDP if I don’t get the ticket, and my answer was NO (sic). So if I had gotten the PDP ticket, would I step down for TINUBU of APC, the answer is No (sic).

“I joined PDP because APC was leading Nigeria to Golgotha. APC candidates are promising to continue BUHARI’S ‘good works!’ (sic) I joined PDP to sack APC from power and to do this I needed a strong opposition party. I had preached to my younger friends that only a mainstream party like PDP can achieve this in 2023.”

Momodu, however, said that while he would respect the opposing views of his friends, he chose to place Nigeria over friendship.

He added, “This remains my conviction. I practice what I preach. Those who disagree are in other parties and I respect their opinions and wish them well. I’m in PDP. I love ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU. We’ve truly come way back. I love PROFESSOR YEMI OSINBAJO. I love RT. HON. CHIBUIKE  ROTIMI AMAECHI… And all my APC friends… (sic) But APC has done too much damage to Nigeria.

“I choose to place Nigeria above friendship… I will try my best to support and encourage our PDP candidate ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR  (sic) to do the right things in our party and to rescue our dear beloved country from the vestiges of oppression, religious intolerance,  poverty, terrorism, infrastructure decay, economic wows, unemployment. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

  • Staying united, only way Tinubu can win 2023 election – Oshiomhole to APC members

Staying united, only way Tinubu can win 2023 election – Oshiomhole to APC members

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and APC Senatorial candidate in Edo North, has advised members of APC to stay united, as it is the only way its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and others can win next year’s election.

He made the statement in Benin on Friday, urging members of the party to to start mobilisation for 2023 election.

He debunked the claim that he has endorsed a candidate for the 2024 governorship election in the state, stating that he has learnt his lesson.

Oshiomhole, the APC Senatorial candidate in Edo North, said that party leaders in the local government have an important role to play in the forthcoming elections, appealing to them to go to their various local governments, hold meeting and sell their candidates to electorates at the grass root.

He also called on aggrieved members to take a cue from him when he was ousted as the chairman of the party after serving for two years.

He said, “The primaries are over and the candidates have emerged. We need to put away our differences that came at the primaries and queue behind our candidates, beginning from our presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, for two-time Governor of Lagos and the party’s national leader.

“The aggrieved members of the should learn from my act of political tolerance when I was ousted from office as the national chairman of the party. I had the opportunity to seek in redress, which would have stalled the party’s congress, but I didn’t.

“I have not endorsed anybody for the governorship election and I will not be doing so. I have learnt from my mistakes. I have also not ask anyone to step down or asked anyone to step up. The only person I asked to step down was my younger brother and this is because two Oshiomhole cannot be on the ballot.

“In the past, when I asked people to step down, they did and never forgave me, while the ones that stepped up have not done anything to show for the faith responded in them.”

While speaking on the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, he urged Nigerians not to be deceived by what other presidential candidates from other parties are saying, noting Tinubu is a tolerant Nigerian who has no ambition of making Nigeria an Islamic country.

Oshiomhole said, “We should explain to people about the APC ticket because there has been deliberate misinformation and an attempt to make the debate personal instead of issue-based.

“The issue is that we should vote a person that will develop the country. Those dwelling on the Muslim-Muslim ticket are doing so to distract people from the major issues. If they ask for your vote ask them to show you what they have done to deserve your vote.

“Tinubu did not make Islam mandatory for his wife who is a Senator and a pastor. His children are also Christians and Muslims. Is there a better example of religion tolerance?

“So, the Muslim Muslim ticket is not the problem today. You have unemployed christians youths who are hungry and we have unemployed Muslim youths who are hungry. Does it matter who governs?
Whoever will develop Nigeria that I think should be the issues and all these sentiments are meant to remove issues from the debate.”

The same mistake must not be repeated again. This is not about political party. It is natural to offend each other but divine to forgive.

“The chances of one of us becoming the President of Nigeria are bright and promising. He might have offended you just as you also might have offended someone. Let’s heal the wound of enemity to move on and faster.

“This is the last chance should we want our children to forgive us. I enjoin the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to approach the aggrieved Yoruba leaders, stakeholders and politicians for genuine reconciliation and harmonisation.”
