PRP cautions public on fraudulent nomination fees in circulation

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has cautioned the public on fraudulent nomination fees in circulation, describing a circular pegging its nomination fees for elective public offices at a certain amount as fraudulent.

National Chairman of the PRP, Mr Falalu Bello in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said the purported fees were N500,000 and N200,000 for presidential and governorship positions.

“N100,000 and N80,000 for Senatorial and House of Representatives; while N70,000 is for House of Assembly seats.”

He said: “The attention of the PRP has been drawn to a fraudulent circular designed and circulated by some duplicitous elements that intend to scam unsuspecting members of the public.

“For the records, this crooked circular did not emanate from the PRP. It is a handiwork of mischief makers who are bent on creating confusion so as to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

“The party, therefore, cautions the public on the said publication.”

Bello explained that in compliance with the notice of the 2023 general elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PRP on April 16, published guidelines for the sale and cost of its forms.

He said the cost of the nomination forms was, House of Assembly-N100, 000; House of Representatives- N250,000; Senate– N1,500,000; Governor-N2,500,000 and President-N10,000,000.

“It was further clarified in the guidelines as released by the party that in addition to the cost of nomination forms, each aspirant will be required to pay five per cent of the nomination form fee, for expression of interest form.

“All aspirants living with disabilities shall be offered nomination and expression of interest forms of the party free of charge.

“All female aspirants will be charged only 50 per cent of the stipulated costs for nomination and expression of interest forms.”

Get your PVC, elect credible leaders in 2023- Bishop urges voters

Rt. Rev. Christian Onyia, has appealed to eligible voters to get their PVC to enable them vote for credible leaders at the 2023 general elections.

Onyia said this at the church 6th Diocesan Synod held at the Emmanuel Anglican Church, Iji-Nike, Enugu on Saturday.

Onyia said that the country needed more credible leaders that would turn around the fortune of the nation for the better.

He reminded Nigerians that although the country needed leaders with the fear of God, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would only count votes and not prayer points come 2023.

“INEC is not going to count prayers. As we pray, we must be focused. That is the part of our campaign for this year’s synod.

“Our people should go out and get their voting cards, so that come 2023, we will be able to vote in the right people into positions of authority.

“We need leaders with Jesus Christ in them but we must not forget to get our PVC to elect such leaders,” he said.

He said that only Jesus Christ knows those with the fear of God, voters must pray for spiritual guidance.

On the essence of the synod, Onyia said the synod provided the church with an opportunity to give hope to the hopeless in society.

According to him, the only hope of the hopeless is in Christ, if they discover Him.

2023: I will make Nigeria productive if elected president – Peter Obi vows

A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Peter Obi, has said he will initiate policies and programmes that will transform Nigeria from a “consumption economy to productive one”.

Obi said this on Thursday, when he came for consultation with Abia PDP chieftains at the state Secretariat in Umuahia.
He said that the nation had abundant resources waiting to be harnessed for rapid economic advancement.

He said: “I know the problems of this country. I know how they can be solved and the areas we need to invest in.

“We want to make this country productive and my campaign has been changing from consumption to productive economy.

“We have to stop fighting over sharing formula and start producing.”

Obi further said there was need to address the issue of cost of governance, debt and unemployment, through the prioritisation of the nation’s expenditure.

He appealed to the electorate to elect individuals that would create a society where people’s talent and hardwork would match up their opportunities.

Earlier, Dr Doyin Okupe, a former Presidential Spokesman to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, described Obi as versed in business, management and economic development.

He said the presidential hopeful had the pedigree, education, knowledge and business acumen to meet the enormous responsibilities associated with governing the country.

Okupe recently announced to the media his decision to step down his presidential ambition to support Obi.

Responding, the state Chairman of the party, Chief Alwell Okere, said that Obi had proven to be the pride of Igboland through his numerous achievements.

Okere said that he had demonstrated the principle of good leadership in the various responsibilities he had held, especially as the governor of Anambra.

He prayed God to grant Obi success in his endeavours, adding that “at the right time, Abia will speak”.

Obi was the presidential running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in 2019.

  • Plot to smear Osinbajo with false testimonies of discrimination against women wearing hijab uncovered

Plot to smear Osinbajo with false testimonies of discrimination against women wearing hijab uncovered

The Osinbajo for President Media Council has uncovered yet another fraudulent plan to malign the reputation of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria and a Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the APC.

The plot has been traced to a cell of smear campaigners, led by a US-based Nigerian who was formerly a Students Union President at the University of Lagos. The same individual is currently a lecturer at the University of Ohio in the USA.

The plan is to use fake audio of faceless individuals with fictitious names to cast the Vice President, who is a Christian, as a religious fanatic, who discriminated against staff of other faith while he was Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State during the tenure of former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the fake video, a woman is seen crying and making frantic allegations that she was discriminated against by the then Attorney-General, because she was not allowed to wear the Muslim head cover for women, otherwise known as the hijab, to work. As observed by someone who was in the same Ministry at the time Osinbajo served as Attorney-General, no such incident ever occurred and this is just a malicious and wicked attempt to sully the sterling qualities of Prof. Osinbajo because of his Presidential aspirations.

Indeed as Attorney-General, Prof Osinbajo’s Secretary, a Muslim, Alhaji Abdul Gafar Bakare had testified before now that the then Lagos AG “did not only encourage me to further my education even at my relatively old age, he personally sponsored my BSc Accounting Program.” He added that the VP also sponsored his foreign travel then.

It would be recalled that similar smear campaigns was unleashed against President Muhammadu Buhari, especially during the 2014-15 Presidential campaigns, when it was alleged that he was virulently anti-Christian. The attempt however met with failure.

Even though a Christian Pastor, Prof Osinbajo has always demonstrated himself to be a tolerant Nigerian who believes in the inter-faith harmony and Freedom of Worship as enshrined in the Nigerian 1999 Constitution as amended. During his career as a university teacher, he taught Moslems and Christians alike in a convivial atmosphere. He also had excellent working and private relationships with Muslim bosses over the decades, including Judge Bola Ajibola, Former Governor Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari. Osinbajo remains a firm believer in Nigeria’s diversity and ardent proponent of Nigerian unity.

For these reasons, the Media Council feels the need to alert the general public to the odious campaign strategy of Osinbajo detractors and urge everyone to ignore same when released to the public.

2023: Mass defection hits APC, as members run to PDP, SDP

Many politicians within the ranks of All Progressives Congress (APC) in at least 12 states have started defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party and the Social Democratic Party ahead of the primaries which begin next month.

With party primaries set for May 2022, APC factions who have lost out have started defecting in their numbers to rivals PDP and SDP.

The crisis began last year as fallout of the party congresses in the states which led to the emergence of factions.

Sokoto State House of Assembly, Aminu Achida, and the Deputy Chief Whip, Alhaji Murtala Maigona, who have been engaged in a feud with a former Governor of Sokoto, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, have both defected to the PDP following Adamu’s decision to recognise Wamakko’s faction.

Recall that Adamu had ordered the APC legal team to withdraw all cases from the Court of Appeal and obey all subsisting High Court judgments instead.

This decision was not well received in some states including in Akwa Ibom where the faction loyal to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was inaugurated to the chagrin of erstwhile Caretaker Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, who is now accusing Adamu of disregarding an order of the Court of Appeal that the status quo be maintained.

Meanwhile the faction in Kwara State loyal to the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, defected to the SDP.

In Zamfara State, a former Governor, Abdul’Aziz Yari; an ex-lawmaker, Senator Kabiru Mafara; and other top APC members have almost finalised plans to join the PDP.

Briefing journalists in Gusau on Sunday, the PDP chairman, Colonel Bala Mande (retd.), said the party had received Yari, Marafa and other top APC members who have joined the party together with their supporters.

In his words “Gentlemen of the press, we have called you to brief you on the joining of our great party the PDP by former Governor Yari, Senator Kabiru Mafara and their supporters. They have joined us, we have reached an agreement and we are going to implement the agreement.

“We have agreed to be together in one party, the PDP and work together for the success of the party. We have also agreed to work extra hard in order to reclaim Zamfara State in 2023 and save its people from the present their predicament. I have given the stakeholders a complete update of where we are as a result of this development.”

The chairman maintained that, Yari, Marafa and other top APC members would be officially received in Gusau in a colourful ceremony.

  • 2023: Tinubu’s desperation and his long lost political empire

2023: Tinubu’s desperation and his long lost political empire

    By Olalekan Adigun

No empire lasts forever. History is filled with examples of even the most powerful empires that have crumbled either due to implosion or explosion. As powerful and formidable as the Roman, Carthage, Assyrian, Persian, and Babylonian empires were, they all crumbled due to their inability to withstand sustained pressures or currents. Therefore, no empire – no matter how formidably built – is too big or powerful to crumble.

Just like the great empires of old, the political empire of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos state is crumbling right before our eyes. Yet, he thinks or he is deluded to believe that he is waxing stronger politically.

This was exactly what the captain of TITANIC – the biggest ship in the early 20th century – thought. He was quoted to have said the ship was too big to sink that even God will not allow it to wreck. As though by some stroke of fate, that night, the ship sank and that was the last time it saw the sun.

Tinubu’s supporters have told everyone who cares to listen that he single-handedly installed the current administration of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015. To them, he is politically invincible. Tinubu’s empire, to them, is waxing stronger when it’s actually crumbling. Nobody is telling him just yet or truthful enough to him that the ground has shifted beneath him since 2015 when he thought to overstretch his so-called empire.

In 2015, in trying to prove his political invincibility after the presidential election, he thought about gaining control of the leadership of the National Assembly.

Controlling the National Assembly, he thought, will strengthen his hands to control the APC-led administration. Of course, we all know how the June 2015 NASS leadership election went. Like Napoleon’s 1812 invasion of Moscow, his ego suffered badly. The signs were clear, but he whom the gods will kill, he first makes blind!

The emperor of a crumbling empire later took his sights to Kogi state. The APC had a bright chance of winning the Kogi gubernatorial election in 2015. Former Governor Abubakar Audu won the party’s ticket and Tinubu lobbied for one of his boys, James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja, Lagos to be Audu’s running mate. Tinubu knew about Audu’s failing health. So, he thought with Faleke he would effectively get to control Kogi. As fate will have it, Audu died just before the elections were concluded with APC in clear lead. The debate as to who inherits his votes arose. It was up to the APC leadership to decide. Tinubu’s boy Faleke was everywhere insisting he should be the one to inherit Audu’s vote being the running mate. The law was clear on the matter that the votes should go to the runner up in the APC primary. This was how the party picked Yahya Bello, the current Governor of the state. Tinubu again left Kogi empty handed.

Desperate for a victory to boost the morale of his supporters, his sights were in Ondo state. Ondo state has a history of resisting emperors. This explains why Ondo was never under the Oyo Empire. While Benin conquered Akure, it soon declared its independence in the 1890s. Emperor Tinubu thought he could subjugate Ondo state in 2016. He tried imposing Olusola Oke (formerly of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP) as the APC gubernatorial candidate against the more tested and independent-minded Rotimi Akeredolu who was the party’s flag bearer in 2012 under ACN. Akeredolu won the APC ticket against all Tinubu’s treacherous scheming. Oke later went to the Alliance for Democracy (AD). Well, as history will have it, APC won the election without Tinubu. In fact, some analysts think ACN’s Akeredolu would have won the gubernatorial election in 2012 if not for too much of Tinubu’s influence. Tinubu did not realize how much of a political liability he had become in the scheme of things.

In 2018, he tried to control Ekiti state. His least favoured candidate, Kayode Fayemi, won both the APC primary and the election. Tinubu was again humbled. He largely kept a safe distance from the state. Fayemi realized he does not need baggage like Tinubu for his 2018 campaign after his 2014 fisco.

In Osun state, Tinubu deployed all measures he had. He could not afford to lose Osun, his home state. He insisted on his cousin, Gboyega Oyetola, becoming APC’s flag bearer. Despite being the ruling party in the state, APC struggled to retain a state that is naturally a Progressives’ fortress. Even with “almighty” Tinubu spending his very last blood.

The signs of his crumbling empire began showing after the Osun Governorship election. His erstwhile lieutenant, Rauf Aregbesola, largely fell out with him. To spite his former master, he was appointed as Minister of Interior, after APC’s victory in the 2019 election. Tinubu has not found it funny ever since.

Nobody likes to be told the hard truths. It is understandable if none of Tinubu’s subordinates are telling him his political empire and fortunes are waxing stronger when in fact, it’s waning. Tinubu is simply desperate to re-assert himself politically for relevance. The signs are getting clearer to him even though his core supporters are not getting the message. He is contesting for president that he is sure to lose only to prove a point. He is using the last remaining crumbs of his relevance to bully South-West Traditional Rulers to save his political fortunes. He has visited a number of them. These Traditional Rulers – most of whom he helped install – don’t necessarily support his political ambition. They are simply urging the Emperor to keep dancing in his “new clothes” when he is actually dancing naked!

Tinubu’s empire has long crumbled and 2023 would show just that.

  • Osinbajo declined Obasanjo’s offer to become AGF in 2005–Ogunsakin

Osinbajo declined Obasanjo’s offer to become AGF in 2005–Ogunsakin

Mustapha Ogunsakin, a veteran journalist, has disclosed that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo declined former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s offer to become Attorney-General of the Federation in 2005.

Ogunsakin’s revelation, was made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja, following mixed reactions over Osinbajo’s declaration to run for the post of president in 2023.

There have been personal attacks on the vice president by some political opponents trying to brand him a betrayer because of his presidential ambition.

“In 2005, President Obasanjo invited Osinbajo to take appointment as the Attorney-General of the Federation after Chief Akin Olujimi left office.

“Obasanjo saw the sterling qualities and performance that Osinbajo had as Attorney General of Lagos.

“ The president without informing Bola Tinubu, the then Lagos State Governor, offered the post to Osinbajo who was then Lagos State Attorney-General.

“ The first thing Osinbajo did was to inform his principal, Tinubu, who gave him a free hand to take his decision,” Ogunsakin said.

He said that Osinbajo made a request to Obasanjo to release Lagos State Council funds.

” Obasanjo replied that Osinbajo should first take the appointment and then advise him as Attorney-General of the Federation on the matter.

“Osinbajo went underground and for weeks Obasanjo could no longer reach him.

“It was obvious to the then president that Osinbajo deliberately avoided him; he went on to appoint Chief Bayo Ojo as his Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

“Osinbajo rejected the position of Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and stayed with Tinubu; nobody complained then,” he said.

Ogunsakin said Osinbajo not only stood with Tinubu, but stayed loyal to Lagos State, adding that ” he did not betray Tinubu then.’’

He cautioned those calling Osinbajo a betrayer.

“But now when it is convenient for them, some political and religious bigots are shouting betrayal!

“Everyone knows that if you want to hear the story of how your father met your mother, join politics,” he said.

He urged anyone criticising Osinbajo over his presidential ambition to do so based on valid facts and ” not lazy, religious and political lies that reveal your foolishness and hatred for a man who is doing his best to make his country and people better.”

2023: Sen. Bala Mohammed promises technology driven, inclusive government

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has pledged to run a knowledge driven economy and inclusive government to address various challenges facing Nigeria, if he is elected president of the country.

Mohammed said this when he held separate meetings with the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) Board of Trustees( BoT), as well as the party’s National Working Committee ( NWC) in Abuja on Wednesday to solicit support for his 2023 presidential ambition.

Mohammed at the meeting with the BOT said that he would put in place robust measures to address insecurity and other challenges of the country.

Mohammed, who described himself as the best among the party aspirants, said that if elected, he would unify the country, adopt a broad based government with deep “community engagement,” in proffering solution to national challenges.

At the meeting with the NWC, Mohammed said that Nigeria needed a new orientation and vision, while promising to provide good governance anchored on justice and equity, if voted in as president.

“I am not going to be a northern president, or a Muslim Fulani president or a minority president.

“ I am going to be the Nigerian President, who understands the nuances, the norms and the feelings of Nigerians because I have touched them. I have worked with them.

“I have understood them. And after understanding them, I know what Nigerians want. What they need is good governance, justice and equity.”

Mohammed added that as president, he would provide the needed leadership for the country and bring hope to every Nigerian.

“I will carry everybody along. And I will bring a revolution in terms of turning around and rescuing the country,” he stated.

Earlier in a meeting with the former ministers, who served under the PDP, Mohammed said his quest to be president was driven by the need to rescue the country.

“We know we cannot continue the blame game. We cannot continue to talk about sections or zones. We must talk about leadership, closing ranks and coming together to rescue the country.

“There is poverty everywhere. There is insecurity everywhere,” Mohammed said.
