Obasanjo punished me as Lagos gov, he cannot endorse anyone – Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate Bola Tinubu has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo cannot endorse any presidential candidate for Nigerians to vote for because he punished him as a Lagos State governor.

He said Obasanjo took the decision against his administration because he was in the opposition party.

The APC flagbearer spoke during his presidential campaign rally in Benin City, Edo State against the backdrop of Obasanjo’s endorsement of the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He accused the former president of frustrating his efforts of solving the challenges of electricity supply during his tenure as governor.

According to Tinubu: “I brought Enron to solve electricity problem and help Lagos economy but Obasanjo and PDP frustrated it. They punished me and Lagos people and even began deducting our money.

“I created Local Governments in Lagos to accelerate development and create employment for our people but Obasanjo siezed our allocation and punished us for that.

“That was wickedness and such a man said he endorsed a man for you to vote as President. Can Obasanjo recommend a leader for anyone in Nigeria? A man who does not know the way cannot show the way.

“They punished me as Lagos State governor, not personal punish but the entire Lagos State was punished.”

The South-South National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party, Felix Reuben has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi to correct any mistake he has made in the past.

Reuben made the observation in an interview on Wednesday.

Reuben also faulted those criticizing Obi for associating with former leaders of the country who they have accused of running the country aground.

He noted that Obi’s association with Obasanjo will enable him to learn some lessons to equip him for the job ahead.

He said: “ Today I want to say that Obasanjo is correcting any mistake he had made. He has seen that when he was president there were certain things he couldn’t do.

“He has seen that Peter Obi can do better than he did and the best thing for him to do as a statesman is to endorse and work for this man.”

The Labour Party leader called on every other leader including governors to join in endorsing Obi for the future of the country.

2023: Why I can’t support any presidential candidate – Chris Ngige reveals

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has revealed why he won’t support any presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 election in February.

The Minister stated this on Wednesday, in his country home in Alor while speaking to journalists.

When asked on which of the candidates he thinks may win the election, Ngige said he would not like to predict, insisting Nigerians should be allowed to choose who they want to be their president.

Giving an account of his personal relationship with each of the frontline presidential candidates, Ngige said: “Malam Kwankwaso, is my friend, I know him too as deputy speaker when he was deputizing Agunwa Anekwe, one of our party’s strong men.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Vice President (former) the Federal Republic of Nigeria was the man who was in the helm of affairs when I was ‘kidnapped’- when I was shoved out of office.

“He was standing in for Mr President (Obasanjo), who was in Maputo, and he ordered the Inspector General of Police then, to reinstate me to office.

“I also worked with him in the economic team- National Economic Council as the Vice President. So, I know him, and he is a friend of mine, and we also formed AC together.

“Peter Obi, my brother, my successor and my everything, I know him too and he is a friend. So, how do I campaign against any of them?

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my friend again – supportive. During trying times; we formed AC together. I became the known opposition Senator in the Eastern Region under the auspices and platform of the ACN. So, he is not somebody I don’t know.”

  • 2023: PDP tasks media on accurate, balance reportage

2023: PDP tasks media on accurate, balance reportage

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has implored media practitioners in Cross River to ensure accurate and balanced reportage ahead of the general elections.

The state Chairman of the party, Mr Venatius Ikem, gave the advice in a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Calabar.

Ikem, who was reacting to a statement credited to Mr Christian Ita, Special Adviser on Media to Gov. Ben Ayade, noted that the PDP was alarmed with the “spurious claims“ on Ayade’s achievements.

Ikem particularly said the party was alarmed with the claim by the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), that the Ogoja rice mill was up and running and that work had reached advance stage on the Superhighway and Deep Sea Port projects.

Ikem maintained that nothing could be farther from the truth as the Deep Sea Port project never took off while the Superhighway had longed been an abandoned project.

The PDP chairman added that the claimed that Ayade had laid a solid foundation for the industrialisation of the state was a mere propaganda to “dress the governor on borrowed robe.”

According to him, “We would request for a project tour of the various industries or infrastructure they are bragging about.

“Are they talking about the Superhighway conceived as a smokescreen to deplete our rainforests for their personal pockets, even after spending billions of naira in clearing?

“Could it be the Deep Sea Port used as a subhead to fritter away our billions of naira in the name of mobilisation fees to pseudo companies?

“The so-called Ogoja Rice distributed in lieu of Senate election in Cross River North were bought from market and repackaged. Which industry is up and running please?

“The roads constructed by their companies are collapsing before official inauguration.”

Ikem urged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to introduce check and balance mechanism aimed at ensuring that press statements from certain government houses were verify before publication to avoid misleading the public.

“It is embarrassing that some media houses have sacrificed integrity by becoming a willing tool in the hands of the Ayade-led administration to misinform and misled our people just to stay afloat.

“The quest for survival or mercantile tendencies must not erode the credibility of the press,” he stated.

Ikem stressed that propaganda would not save Ayade and his party from defeat in the March 11 governorship election.

Ita had said the state government had done so much to lift the state in the area of industrialisation, noting that work was ongoing on the Superhighway and the Deep Sea Port projects.

“For the deep seaport, we have gone very far with the preferred bidder, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). We are at the stage where the physical construction is to commence.

“And now they are at the financial closure state and so the process has been very fast for a major project of this nature.

“Remember that Lekki Deep Seaport took over two decades to be completed. Even Ibaka Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom was conceptualised by the administration of Obong Victor Attah. After three different administrations, physical construction is yet to commence.

“This is because huge projects of this nature involve a lot of approvals and processes.

“On the Superhighway, construction is ongoing in phases.

“However, construction only commenced about two years ago due to litigations and petitions by some Cross River citizens and their cohorts, who had vowed to stop the project, using environmental concerns as an excuse,” he stated.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that The G-5 Governors of the PDP returned home yesterday from their latest strategic talks in London and immediately launched into a fresh verbal battle with the party.

Wike also denied that he and other members of the Integrity Group – Govs. Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) – had struck a deal with one of the presidential candidates outside of the PDP.

He spoke on a day the PDP flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, called himself an elephant who cannot be taken by surprise by the G-5 governors.

Atiku’s running mate and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, said separately yesterday that God, and not the G-5, would determine the fate of the PDP in the election.

Wike, who moved straight from the Port Harcourt International Airport to Igbo-Etche in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area to kick off the construction of Enekah-Igbo Etche road project, taunted Atiku’s loyalists for preoccupying themselves with the engagements of the G-5.

He did not disclose details of their London meeting but wondered why Atiku’s supporters kept discussing every move of the G-5.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the five governors of the PDP had tagged G-5 ‘Integrity Group’ and reiterated that they are open to reconciliation talks.

The G5 Governors include Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

2023 Election: I’m not mole for APC – Lagos PDP guber candidate

The PDP Governorship Candidate for Lagos State, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran (a.k.a. Jandor), says he is not a mole for APC but is strongly determined to end its reign in the state.

Adediran made this known in an interview in Lagos.

He reacted to speculations that he was planted in PDP by the APC which has been ruling Lagos State since 1999.

It is also being insinuated that Adediran, a former APC chieftain and former leader of Lagos4Lagos Movement, is close to the APC Presidential Candidate, Chief Bola Tinubu.

He told newsmen that it would be illogical for him to be APC’s mole in PDP and be giving APC ‘headaches’ in his campaigns.

Adediran said that though he was in APC for some years until January 2022, he had not had a one-on-one meeting with Tinubu, also a former Governor of the state.

The candidate said: “It might be difficult for anybody to believe that I have never had a one-on-one meeting with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“I have not set my feet on his Bourdillon house. Yes, I was coming from APC, but I have never been elected nor appointed.

“I have only been a consultant on that corridor.”

On the implications of the crisis rocking the PDP at the national level, Adediran said that the party had no problem both at the national and state levels that could affect its fortune in the 2023 elections.

He said that the G-5 PDP govenors were still major stakeholders in the party.

Adediran said: “For those who can take time to do a thorough diagnosis of the situation that is happening within the PDP, we know that PDP has no problem either at the national level or at the state level.

“None of the aggrieved governors is telling party members in there respective states to do otherwise on election day.

“They are major stakeholders in PDP business in their respective states.”

Adediran also described as false, insinuations that his candidacy was opposed by Chief Olabode George, a former PDP National Deputy Chairman and PDP stalwart in Lagos State.

“Chief Bode George never opposed my candidacy. He is my leader, he wants to see PDP win Lagos.

“I can assure you, he is on this 100 per cent and we are together.

“We don’t have any issue. As a national leader,” he said.

Gov El-Rufai reveals politicians 2023 election will punish

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has revealed 2023 general election will punish politicians causing religious divisions in the country.

He spoke while commissioning the head office of the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development.

He lamented that some politicians were using churches and religious centres for campaigns.

“I think this election causes for us a very unique opportunity to take religion out of politics in Nigeria and punish those that are trying to use religion as a tool.

“But some people are campaigning in churches, some are holding internal meetings with religious leaders to promote ethnic and religious division, it is the last thing Nigeria needs now at a time when the whole world is facing challenges ultra-nationalism and global supply chain disruption,” he said.

Lately, some politicians like the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has been visiting some of the top most churches in Nigeria.

  • 2023 Elections: Fulani Youths state reasons for endorsing Peter Obi

2023 Elections: Fulani Youths state reasons for endorsing Peter Obi

Some Fulani youths on Tuesday endorsed the candidacy of Mr Peter Obi contesting on the platform of Labour Party, (LP).

The Fulani youth were of the opinion that they would no longer vote along ethnic and religious lines, adding that they will be supporting Obi because of the leadership qualities that he possesses.

The Fulani youths from the 19 Northern States and Abuja made their position known during a meeting with Igbo Elders Consultative Forum led by elder statesman, Chukwuemeka Ezeife.

During the meeting, the Fulani youths presented a document containing their demands to the former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Chief Simon Okeke, who chaired the meeting.

The leader of the group simply known as Ibrahim Abdullahi,  noted that their decison to support Obi was borne out of their desire to bring back the relationship that exists between the North and South East as it were during the first and second republics.

Abdullahi said, “The current president is our Kinsman but we have come to realise from experience that you don’t need to have someone from your tribe or faith as president before your lives improve. What we need is somebody that is patriotic, honest, just and fair. In Nigeria, Fulani are no longer after tribal or religious sentiments.

“We are looking for a leader that is capable of taking Nigeria to the promise land. We have realised that these two tribes, Fulani and Igbo hold 99 per cent of the corporate existence of Nigeria. The Igbos have the control of over 80 per cent of the commercial activities in the country while the Fulanis control 99 per cent of livestock we have. Igbos and Fulani coming together to work for the good of Nigeria will be the best.

“You should also know that this is not the first time. The alliance between the two ethnic groups in the First and Second Republics brought prosperity to the country. Though, we are still licking the wound of civil war and course, we have offended ourselves but we are doing this to bring about the much needed healing.”

The IECF chairman and former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, described Obi as true unifier who will banish poverty, insecurity, and all the negatives associated with Nigeria.

While responding to the comment made by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on Obi’s chances, Ezeife said everybody cannot support Obi’s presidential bid.

Soludo had dismissed the chances of Obi in 2023 and criticized the style of Ndigbo in its quest for the country’s number one seat in an article titled, ‘History beckons and I will not be silent.’

The article drew mixed reactions across the country and particularly on social media, where Soludo was heavily criticised.

Ezeife said, “If Peter Obi becomes president, in the next two years, our sons and daughters abroad will begin to think of coming back home.

“God has his hand in Obi’s movement. I. Know him very well. Many years I left as a governor, I saw him at airport carrying his own luggage. He insisted that public fund must be use for public good.

Mr Peter Obi will be contesting the elections alongside two other major contestants Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) the 2023 presidential election will be held on the 25th of February.

  • KTSG denies us use of public stadium — PDP alleges

KTSG denies us use of public stadium — PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the Katsina State Government has denied it the use of Muhammadu Dikko Stadium for its presidential rally.

Newsmen reports that the party has scheduled Tuesday, 20, 2022 for its campaign in the state.

Dr Mustapha Inuwa, the Director General of the Atiku-Lado Campaign Council disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Katsina.

Inuwa said that the council had written twice to the state government seeking its permission to use the stadium.

He explained that the state government, in its response to the party’s two letters, said that repairs were still ongoing at the facility and, therefore, could not be used for the event.

Inuwa said the two alternative locations provided by the state government were located within the populated areas of the state and thus would not be convenient.

“One of the locations is within the populated area of the state, while the other is very close to the Federal Medical Centre.

“If there is an emergency situation it will be difficult for an ambulance to move around,“ according to Inuwa.

The Atiku-Lado Campaign Council director-general and the council’s Chairman, Sen. Ibrahim Umar-Tsauri, expressed serious concern over the response from the state government.

Sen. Umar-Tsauri described the development as “sad and democratically challenging“, saying that the rally was for their presidential, gubernatorial and other PDP candidates in the state.

“You all know that we built the stadium for the people of Katsina State and Nigeria but today we want to use the stadium but because we are not in government, the government in power has refused us to use it.

“This is really sad, politically unbecoming and democratically challenging. It is too bad,“ he said.

In a letter signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Nuradeen, on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government (SGS), Alhaji Muntari Lawal, the state government said the stadium was under “repairs” and could not be released for use.
