I fear Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike – Rotimi Amaechi

Amaechi reveals that he’s scared of current Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Amaechi made this revelations during an interview with Channels TV

Asked if he would return to his state to help APC win power, Amaechi responded with a resounding No. He added that he fears Nyesom Wike and he would rather remain in Abuja and watch proceedings.

After he was reminded that Wike has stamped his feet on the politics of Rivers and that charity begins at home, Amaechi said, “My eyes are here [in Abuja].

“This is my home now. Abuja is now my home and my governor is the minister of the FCT. I live and do business here.”

Asked if he had any plans of going back to Rivers State, his local base, the Minister said, “When we reach the bridge we’ll cross it. For now, the FCT minister is my governor.”

2023: Nigerian professionals drum support for Emefiele demanding he should declare now

A group under the umbrella of Nigerian Patriotic Quest, NPQ has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to immediately declare his intention to run for the 2023 presidential race.

The group of professionals both at home and in the diaspora in a statement signed by the co-ordinator, Ahmed Ja’Usman Tijani said:

“We the members of the Patriotic Quest (NPQ), a group of Nigerian professionals, mostly based in the diaspora, wish to declare for the umpteenth time that the moment is now for Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele to join the race for the presidency of Nigeria.

“We will continue to make this call because Nigeria is now at a crossroads and will require the care and nurture of a man like Godwin to take her to the promised land of rapid development.
In the past two decades, Nigerians have entrusted their fate in the hands of professional politicians with barely anything to show for it.

“If we must be honest to ourselves, we can say without any fear of contradiction, that the professional politicians have succeeded in running the nation aground.

“We have witnessed a relay race of politicians handing over the baton of leadership from one uneventful administration to the other.

    “Our patience is totally exhausted.
We seek a new shift in leadership from the old to the new.

“We are not carried away by the rhetorics of the old brigade who are now catwalking the national walkways in order to sell to us their expired recipes.
    Enough is enough!

“It is time for this nation to support and encourage the emergence of a new type of leadership.
“We yearn for the advent of the servant leader; who is there to serve and not to be served and celebrated.

“We need leaders who are ready to get their hands dirty in order to wash away the dross of over 50 years of misrule.
We believe that Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele falls squarely into the mold of leadership that the nation deserves at this time.

“We have watched, with great admiration, his dexterous and self-effacing management of the affairs of the CBN.

“We are astonished by the skillful manner with which the CBN intervened in the major sectors of the economy: agriculture, finance, industries, etc.

“Only recently, as Nigeria is once again enmeshed in the man-made tragedy of fuel scarcity and power failures, we read of his intention to use the instruments of the CBN to try and bring succour to our long suffering compatriots.

“This is the hallmark of a leader.
What distinguishes a great leader from others, is his ability to proffer solutions; that capacity to visualise and pursue relentlessly the vision that things could and would be better.

“If Godwin can make all these positive impact as the Governor of CBN, which is just a department in the huge edifice of governance, how much more if he becomes the President of the country.
We have said it repeatedly that the professional politicians, some of whom have become permanent fixtures of government in the past 20 years or more, with little or nothing to show for it, should respectfully step back and allow the new leadership to emerge.

“As a nation moves from one challenge to the other, it must evolve the right strategy to overcome those difficulties.
We have arrived at the point where the old solutions have failed woefully.

“Therefore, it is time to try the new and we, humbly assert, that Emefiele is in the vanguard of the new solutions.
Nigeria, at this time, needs a leader with a track record of achievements in management, entrepreneurship, and economy and has the right exposure to seat at the same table with the leading lights of the global economy.

“Nigerians! it is time for us to throw away the limiting baggage of ethnic, religious, and money politics and embrace a new way of doing things, if not for our sake but for the sake of our children’s children.

“The 2023 elections offers us a golden opportunity to begin the journey of repentance and recovery.
We simply cannot afford to repeat the errors of the past.

  • ‘Tinubu and I are most likely to be’ – Okorocha speaks on APC presidential ticket

‘Tinubu and I are most likely to be’ – Okorocha speaks on APC presidential ticket

Senator Rochas Okorocha ( APC – Imo) on Sunday said that if the possibility of a Tinubu and Rochas ticket emerged ahead of the 2023 presidential elections, he would clinch it.

Okorocha, a former governor of Imo, said this while fielding questions from newsmen at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention in Abuja.

“Uncle Tinubu and I are most likely to be.

“I know that at the appropriate time it may be because he is the one pushing up in the south west and I am in in the south east.

“So let us see what happens between us, and if that is it ,I will ask him to relax a bit so that we can move this section forward.

“The people naturally love me and I think it is because they believe I care, they believe I love and have sympathy for humanity ,they believe I am detribalised .

“They believe I do not know religion or tribe, Muslim Christian, Igbo or Hausa, Yoruba, all I see is a human being and that is what makes the difference on my side.’’

Okorocha urged Nigerians to use their voter cards well because it was worth much more than they thought.

He said that 2023 would present an opportunity for them to make the right choices.

“Whether it is for internal democracy or for general elections, you must ensure that you cast your vote right because the voter’s card contains everything .

“It is the education of your children ,it is your health , food on the table and security, so I always advise people that the worth of that card in your hand is more than N100 million so do not sell it for N10,000,’’ he said

Okorocha said the convention was beautiful and looked peaceful and everyone seemed to be excited because they were all trying to see that the much talked about convention came to pass.

Talking about the party and its challenges, he said that although time was not on the party’s side “ we pray with this exercise coming to completion, we are now sure that we are on track and APC is still a great party in spite of its challenges.

“However, as you know ,big party big wahala ,it is expected and with the leadership shown by President Muhammadu Buhari, we are beginning to see light at the dark end of the tunnel .’

Okorocha expressed gladness that the convention was not hijacked, adding that it was much easier for all if the right things were done.

“That is all we have been asking ,beautiful internal democracy, free and fair where people must be allowed to choose the person they want .

“That is the beauty of democracy, so anything outside this is manipulation and it is not good for democracy .’’

  • 2023: Peter Obi’s lavish education, career profile

2023: Peter Obi’s lavish education, career profile

The upcoming presidential contest looks set to parade a crowded field of formidable contestants in both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties.

However, only one aspirant from any of the parties will eventually fly the banner of the party in the presidential contest and, if elected, the person will take over President Muhammadu Buhari’s plum job next year.

Consequently, we will run a profile of all the aspirants to enable the electorate to make informed choices in the 2023 general elections.

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the PDP, Mr Peter Obi, has released his bio-data, showcasing a copious profile that casts him as standing tall among PDP presidential aspirants.

Obi, born on July 19, 1961, in Onitsha, Anambra, had his early education at the famous Christ the King College, Onitsha, from where he gained admission to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, one of Nigeria’s first generation universities.

The former governor of Anambra is viewed by political analysts as a top contender in the equally crowded PDP camp, which parades over a dozen contenders for the top job.

Obi is the fourth son of a devout Catholic and entrepreneur mum and dad, who ran a popular supermarket in Onitsha, the commercial hub of the Southeast more than 50 years ago.

Young Obi took to international trade after leaving university, where he studied philosophy.

Now 61, Obi made a huge success in his business endeavor and subsequently, ventured into politics.

He was later to enroll at the Lagos Business School in Ajah, near Lagos, where he undertook a course designed for chief executives.

Obi also attended the Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts, for the mid-to-mid marketing course and another short course on Changing the Game in same school.

He was later to attend the London School of Economics for a course in Financial Management and Business Policy as well as the Institute for Management Development in Switzerland.

Obi also attended the U.S. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and Oxford University in England, where he attended a course in Advanced Management and Leadership.

He had a short stint at Cambridge University’s George Business School in Cambridge, England.

Obi got elected as governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, shaping the economy of the state and positioning it as first among equals, especially in the secondary education sector.

As governor, Obi was also a member of the Presidential Economic Management Team as well as Special Adviser to the President on Finance.

He was also vice-chairman of the influential Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Chairman of the South-East Governor’s Forum from 2006 to 2014.

The PDP presidential aspirant was also a former chairman of the board of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

He was chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc., Guardian Express Mortgage Bank and chairman of Future Views Securities Ltd.

The presidential aspirant was also a former chairman of Chams Nigeria Plc.; Paymaster Plc. and Next International Ltd., the expansive supermarket chain, located in Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Obi is a member of many professional bodies, including the Nigerian Economic Summit Group; Nigerian Chartered Institute of Bankers and a member of the British Institute of Directors.

In 2012, Obi received an award by the Methodist Church of Nigeria for his prudent management of public resources and in 2013, he along with former Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State were named Silver Bird Men of the Year.

Analysts are waiting anxiously to know who will emerge the flagbearer in the PDP as the countdown to the high-stakes presidential election gets underway.

  • Don’t give party tickets to ‘highest bidders’, Buhari warns APC leaders

Don’t give party tickets to ‘highest bidders’, Buhari warns APC leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari has enjoined the new National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the party primaries are not influenced by “highest bidders”.

The president gave the warning at the 2022 APC National Convention in Abuja.

He urged party leaders to always promote internal democracy and equal opportunities for all members of the party.

Buhari called on all politicians and the electorate to abide by the new Electoral Act “to promote the process of election, enhance transparency, fill in existing gaps and add value to Nigeria’s democracy for our democracy to thrive.”

The president, who adduced reasons for his recent intervention in the affairs of the party, said that it was not intended to muzzle dissenting voices.

“Recently, l had cause to intervene in the leadership crisis which was about to cause confusion in the party.

”Such internal disputes are common in young democracies such as ours, but we must avoid overheating the polity and not allow our differences to tear and frustrate the party.

“Like I said earlier, it does not do anybody or the party any good, when we, as leaders, go down so low and resort to backstabbing and name-calling in the media.

“We should learn how to resolve our differences without jeopardizing our personal relationships and the fate of the Party.

”I want to thank the Progressives Governors’ Forum for heeding to my advice and suggestions in settling the leadership dispute,” he said.

He commended the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee for steering the ship of the party this far.

This, he said, included reconciling aggrieved party members, purchasing a new party secretariat and launching an aggressive membership drive that saw three governors defecting into the APC, among others.

“I want to congratulate us all for being part of this history making event and to specially appreciate the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) which has been on a rescue mission under the leadership of Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State Governor.”

He lauded the CECPC for successfully piloting the affairs of the Party in the last 18 months and organizing the convention to elect a new National Working Committee that would take over from the Caretaker Committee.

“I am glad the party under the Caretaker Committee has bounced back to life with the reconciliation of several key and critical stakeholders and groups who had hitherto left the party or were on the verge of leaving the party.

”The reconciliation process gave the aggrieved stakeholders a true sense of belonging and assurance.

“It is gratifying that the party recorded massive and unprecedented defections under the Caretaker Committee administration.

”APC received three sitting Governors, a Deputy Governor, Senators, Members of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies, and other key officials from opposition parties who defected along with millions of their supporters.

“I am impressed to learn that the membership registration and revalidation exercise undertaken by the Caretaker Committee, has recorded over 41 million members.

”This has proved that we are indeed Nigeria’s leading and largest political party.

”It also exhibits our numerical strength and the potential to win elections at all given times fairly and squarely,” he added.

Buhari called on members of the APC to remain united and strong and also support the incoming leadership of the party.

“This convention is coming at a crucial time when we prepare for another round of a general election.

”Therefore, the need to remain strong and united for the party to exploit the rich and abundant potentials at its disposal cannot be overemphasized.

”We appreciate the right to hold different opinions and aspirations, however, such differences must not be to the detriment of the Party.

“l passionately appeal to you all to support the incoming National Working Committee (NWC) to promote unity and avoid sentiments that are capable of causing disaffection and disunity.

”For those aspiring for party and public offices, your failure to realize such aspirations for Party offices or to fly the Party’s flag, should not be a basis for a campaign of calumny against the party.

”We should have the spirit of sportsmanship and always support the party to succeed.”

  • National Convention: APC wears PDP look ahead of 2023 general elections

National Convention: APC wears PDP look ahead of 2023 general elections

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seemed to have fully transmuted into a form of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), following the constitution of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at its just-concluded national convention.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that with the emergence of Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman of the party; Iyiola Omisore as National Secretary, and Victor Giadom as Vice Chairman, South-South, the transmutation process of APC into PDP seemed to be fully complete on Sunday.

It took President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration almost seven years and 7,000 delegates to finally complete this process as those that emerged as the party’s final engine room via the positions of Chairman, national secretary, amongst others, were former stalwarts of the main opposition party, PDP.

TNG reports Adamu was a founding member of the PDP from 1999, a two-term Governor of Nasarawa under the platform of the PDP, and only defected to the ruling APC in 2014. He was also elected a Senator as a flag bearer of the PDP. He was also one time Secretary, PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT).

Omisore on the other hand was a power broker in PDP as despite being in detention in 2003, won the Osun Senatorial seat under the PDP after he dumped Action Congress (AC).

The 64 years old engineer and Osun grassroots politician was a heavy-weight political mobiliser for the PDP. With the emergence of these two men in the political engine room of the APC, the PDP now has its replica in the ruling APC as it is.

Both men emerged via consensus with the full endorsement of all APC governors and 7,000 delegates across Nigeria. This is a confirmation of the fact that the CPC and ACN accord has been finally shredded as APC is now clothed in PDP’s apparel.

2023 Elections: Buhari sounds note of warning

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has sounded a note of warning to the newly constituted NWC of the APC, enjoining the new NWC to ensure that the party primaries are not influenced by “highest bidders”.

  • I want to take over from Sanwo-olu in 2023- APC member, Ajiboye

I want to take over from Sanwo-olu in 2023- APC member, Ajiboye

Mrs Khairat Animasahun Ajiboye, Public administrator and staunch member of the All Progressives congress, APC has mentioned that she would be contesting the 2023 gubernatorial elections in Lagos.

Ajiboye said she’s prepared to take over the helm of affairs from incumbent Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the forthcoming election in Lagos.

Addressing journalists at a press conference held at Excellence Hotel and Conference Hall, Ogba, Lagos, on Thursday, she said that she was poised to take over from the incumbent governor of the state.

Her statement read “I want to start by greeting the general populace of Lagos State that resides here and that are parts of other communities in Nigeria and all over the world. I greet our mothers, our fathers, our old, our Young, our females, our males, our elders, the owners of this land, and the visitors in this land and at last, I greet our leaders and our people. It is a blessing to be among you this morning.

“My name is Khairat Animashaun-Ajiboye. I would like you to listen to me with a clear mind. I am ready to take over from governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and I believe that I have got what it takes to do so. I have grown through the same social-political system that every normal child went through, I attended a public primary and secondary school, a public college, and University, I was a public servant who plied public buses as a source of transportation.

“I was that child who will wake up very early to help her mother fetch a source of livelihood and still walk to school every morning. I was that child who was vulnerable to the system yet brilliant in mind and soul as the majority of our children, our aunties, our young ladies. I have been there, done that. Although I had the privilege of traveling abroad to further my studies, acquiring two Master’s degrees, and doing well in my career, I have remained consistent in my attitude, general outlook, and knack for service to humanity. I have taken my time to tell you this just to prove that I am just like every Bukky, Joe, Abdullahi, Omolara, Chidinma, and Janet on the streets, who believes that where the opportunities present themselves, I will strive to become a better person and member of our society at large.

“I am a woman, a youth, an Aworian, thanks to my long-standing Lagos Island roots. I am also from Surulere, and I am a Lagos Westerner by tradition. I am the convener of the Khairat Animashaun Initiative. I am a self-driven individual with the tenacity, discipline, network, humility, and good appreciating heart to drive the seat of power in Lagos State by becoming the next Executive Governor, God willing. I crave the indulgence of the electorates, to promote our dear Lagos so we can entrench fairness and goodwill by supporting my intention to run for the exalted office of Lagos State Governor under the All Peoples Congress political party.

My Vision is to create a more sustainable social-political, economic, cultural, and physical environment for all. The mission is for every Lagosian, regardless of their color or breed, to accept this noble Lagosian, to promote Lagos to become a more functional state without any gender barrier, but with flexibility, and thoroughness.

“As a true campaigner of good and responsible leadership, who believes in the pragmatism of leadership, I hope that you the technocrats, the marketers, the corporate society, the students, the socialites, the youths, the women and men will heed my clarion call more for a Lagos that works for all because “Correcting what is around us will largely correct other wrongs about our larger environment! A change in mindset from us all can make that difference we seek.

“If given this rare privilege and opportunity to lead, I wish to correct many things in this great state, such as: canceling the Lekki toll gate and moving the toll gates to other strategic parts of Lagos State, especially the borderlines of our state to help the ease of movement for all and sundry and reduce the transferred burden on the ordinary Lagos traders, workers, and students. Increasing subvention for the universities to help with improved capacities, professionalism and elevate the quality of education. There’d be no more ASUU problem in Lagos State, considering my Lagos State University student leadership experience, where I met Governors Otedola of blessed memory, Governor Oyinlola, and Governor Marwa.

Staying longer in school than necessary can derail the goal of national development. Proper, welfare, monitoring, and fair evaluation of our lecturers should help us achieve this goal for the fact that I had the rare privilege to have met three past governors of Lagos State due to the same old story of the ASUU strike.

“There’d be free basic education, an end to the consistent bullying, maiming, and killing of our women and youths. I’d create youth engagement and empowerment programs; Provision of Social Services and systemic partnership with the international communities and the business communities alike. Capitalize on our waterways, for proper utilization and movement of freight and human. Re-enact zero tolerance for the dirty environment, clogged drainages, and flagrant display of indisciplined acts.

“I have been walking the talk and consulting with different electorates, ethnic groups, and key decision-makers in Lagos State with a positive view of getting their blessings to be the reputable governorship candidate in the next election in 2023. Lagos electorates, we need to change the narrative by coming together to build and retain formidable foot soldiers and polling booth lieutenants in the forthcoming election in Lagos State. It is very instructive for the electorates in Lagos State to have Lagos of their dreams and the masses to live and run the affair in the state with an all-inclusive government to make the state politically stable and united with all the residents benefitting genuinely from a true government committed to a better Lagos State for all.”

Anyim is among the bigwigs seeking to clinch the coveted position of President during the 2023 general election under the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP).

He said, ”though some of the coalition members were not partisan, they decided to take interest and play active roles in the processes leading to the election of the next President of Nigeria in 2023.

“Nigeria, our dear country, is passing through very difficult times.

“The events of the last few weeks and the bitter experiences ordinary citizens have been subjected to have terribly shaken the confidence and faith of Nigerians.

”This is in the ability and commitment of the leadership of this country to protect the lives and cater for the needs of Nigerians.

“If by 2023, Nigeria fails to get the leadership question right, the future will be very bleak.”

Samuel stated that the group, therefore, decided to throw in the ring by getting directly involved in the process of choosing who will be the candidate of the PDP.

He said: ”It is the Party Nigerians are hanging their hopes on for a secure, peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria, come May 29, 2023.

“In order to ensure we get it right this time, we have decided to lead other support groups and partners of Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim to purchase the forms for him to contest in the PDP presidential primary election.

“We took this step because we are convinced that Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, has the capacity, competence, experience, exposure, temperament and humility to provide the quality of leadership Nigeria needs now to pull our country back from the brinks.

“Sen. Anyim understands Nigeria, the peculiar challenges we are presently facing and has the capacity to find solutions to those challenges.

“We are glad that he has offered to lead the charge to rebuild, reunite and reposition Nigeria.

“We therefore call on all Nigerians of goodwill to rise to the challenge and join hands together to ensure that Sen. Anyim wins the presidential primary of the PDP.

”Then, he will ultimately become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the May 29, 2023, by the special grace of God.”

Accepting the form, Anyim commended the various support groups, even as he promised not to fail them and the country.

“I feel highly elated and humbled by the action. It is an act of patriotism and I promise I will not fail you.

“My aspiration is to usher in a better Nigeria based on the principles of equity and fairness. Today is not a day for long speeches,” Anyim said.

PDP presidential aspirants meet on consensus

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirants met on Thursday in Abuja to work out the possibility of producing a consensus candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The immediate past Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and governors of Sokoto and Bauchi states, Aminu Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, met in Abuja over the matter, in continuation of the Bauchi meeting.

Saraki, who addressed journalists at the end of the meeting, said “we are in this country today and it’s important as stakeholders that key leaders of this party (PDP) are seen united.

“Some of the decisions we have also taken today is that we are going to embark on reaching out to other aspirants.

“Of course, identified senior leaders of the party and other aspirants across the country and also former colleagues; so we are going to reach out to all parts on this process of bringing us together.

“We are committed to that process because we believe that once we unite as PDP, who lay the foundation, therefore a strong party, will help in delivering Nigerians from the challenges that they’re facing now to make the country much stronger as we go ahead”.

He, however, dismissed insinuation that the meeting was a plot to shut some aspirants from getting the party’s ticket, saying those propagating such are those who do not see anything good.

“We are not shutting anybody out, as we said, it is not about shutting anybody out, it is about uniting everybody for the interest of this country.

“You will see when we begin to go round. As we said we are going to see all other aspirants of the party,” he emphasised.

2023: Peter Obi declares interest in presidential race

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has declared his interest to contest the 2023 presidential election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Obi made his interest public during a visit to Anambra Traditional rulers on Thursday in Awka, the capital city of Anambra.

“My job here is simple, to inform you people as my own fathers that I’ll be aspiring for the post of President of Nigeria.

“I am not contesting because I want political appointment but to serve this country and unite Nigeria and I am the only person that can unite Nigeria.

“The state of our country today is deplorable, the level of insecurity is indeed unfortunate and Nigeria has fallen to the lowest ebb in the committee of nations and I am the only one that can restore security in Nigeria.

“As President, I want security of lives and property in Borno State, in Minna and Niger states, as I want it to be in Onitsha and in Kano or Ekiti State.

“My interest in the presidency of Nigeria is to restore security and revamp our educational sector and also revive the health sector and I have seriously studied our country and I have come to discover that all that we need is to ensure security so that foreign and local investments would thrive in all parts of the country.

“I have come to serve Nigeria and I what it takes to restore the dignity of our country and to unite the country because if there is no unity in Nigeria, we cannot move ahead.

“You all know me very well. I do not need any further introduction. You all know what I did as governor of Anambra State and Anambra is like Nigeria and anybody who is able to manage Anambra State can manage Nigeria and I am calling for your support and I have confidence in you all that you will support me,” Obi said.

His declaration comes a day after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also declared interest to contest the presidential election.

Recall that Obi was running mate to Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election. They would now be vying for the presidential ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for 2023.
