    How we chose campaign team members — Plateau APC

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau says it considered many factors before inaugurating its governorship campaign team headed by the immediate past Vice- Chancellor of University of Jos, Prof. Sabastian Maimako.

    “After strategic and broad-based consultations, the party released the key appointments into its Governorship Campaign Council ahead of the 2023 general elections.

    “These appointments, which are with immediate effect, reflect the various geo-political, religious and ethnic interests in the state,” Plateau APC Publicity Secretary Sylvanus Namang said in a statement.

    The statement issued in Jos said that Maimako would be assisted by three deputy directors-general, with the Deputy Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr Shehu Yipmong as Deputy Director-General (Operations).

    According to the statement, the mmediate past Nigerian Labour Congres (NLC) Chairman in Plateau, Mr Jibrin Bancir, will serve as Deputy Director-General (Administration) while Qua’an Pan Local Government Chairman, Mr Ernest Daa is Deputy Director-General (Election Management).

    “The Campaign Council is to be headed by Dr Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, the governoship candidate in the state with Chief Rufus Bature, the state APC Chairman as the Deputy Chairman.

    “The Secretary of the Campaign Council is Prof. Shem Binda, former Provost, College of Education Gindiri,” the statement said.

    The statement further said that the remaining appointments into the respective directorates in the council would be made later.

    2023: PDP stakeholders lauds Ugwuanyi for zoning governorship ticket to Enugu East

    PDP stakeholders in Enugu East Senatorial District on Thursday lauded Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for keeping with the rotational zoning arrangement in the state.

    They stated this when some people of the zone led by the PDP governorship candidate Mr Peter Mbah, paid a special ‘Thank-you’ visit to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, at the Government House, Enugu.

    The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Edward Ubosi, the PDP State Chairman, Mr Augustine Nnamani and members of the National Assembly from the state were part of the delegation.

    Others were the PDP Zonal Chairman, Enugu East Senatorial District, Nnamdi Nwafor and traditional rulers from the area.

    They said they were in the Government House to thank the governor for acceding to their yearning that the governorship ticket in 2023 be zoned to Enugu East Senatorial District.

    They also thanked Ugwuanyi for the choice of Mbah as the PDP governorship candidate, stressing that the governor was a promise keeper.

    Delivering their message of gratitude, Nwafor disclosed that their visit was to solely thank the governor for Mbah’s emergence.

    Nwafor recalled that the people of Enugu East Senatorial District, including the clergy and traditional rulers, had on June 17, 2021 converged on Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, for the Oganiru Enugu East Senatorial District Rally.

    He said they had appealed to Ugwuanyi to ensure that the rotational zoning arrangement of the governorship position, which favoured their zone,  be adhered to.

    He recalled Ugwuanyi promised them that justice, equity and fairness would prevail in the fullness of time.

    Nwafor said the governor’s promise was made manifest on May 25 when Mbah was duly elected as the governorship candidate of the PDP.

    Expressing gratitude also to the governor, the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ben Nwoye, thanked the governor for answering the call of the people of Enugu East Senatorial District.

    He said that he was delighted that all the major political parties in the state had zoned their governorship tickets to Enugu East Senatorial District, ahead of the 2023 general polls.

    Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi , who expressed great delight at the kind words, solidarity and gratitude by the elated people of Enugu East Senatorial District, said: “All I have done is to provide the leadership needed at this point in our history.

    “This is to protect that cherished political culture and which, in reality, birthed my own political opportunity as well as that of my predecessors in office.

    “The beauty of fair rotation of political offices is that both the strong and the weak will have their turn.

    I, therefore, enjoin all those in whose hands history and providence may entrust the responsibility of dispensation of political justice in this state in future, to do so without fear or favour, for what is good for the goose is also good for the gander,” he said.

    The governor expressed implicit confidence that Mbah, “whom we have placed in the hands of God fits the bill”.

    He urged the people to pray and rally round him to deepen the ongoing consultations ahead of formal electioneering campaigns.

  • Sen. Otu wins APC guber primary in Cross River state

    Sen. Bassey Otu, a former lawmaker who represented Cross River South in the National Assembly, has emerged governorship flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

    Newsmen reports that at the party’s governorship primary election, held at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Sen. Otu emerged winner after scoring 811 votes to defeat his opponents, Sen. John Owan-Enoh who got 84 votes and Mr Chris Agara, 63 votes.
    The exercise, which began after accreditation of voters on Thursday May 26, ended at the early hours of Friday May 27, with the result announced by the Chairman of the party’s Primary Election Committee, Mr Mohammed Kolo.

    Chairman of the APC in Cross River, Mr Alphonsus Eba, congratulated Otu on his victory which he described as ‘landslide’.

    Also, Amb. Soni Abang, the Director General of Otu’s Campaign Organisation, congratulated the former lawmaker over his emergence as the APC flag bearer in the state, and appealed to the electorates to vote massively for Otu in the 2023 general election.

    Mr Peter Odey, Leader of Cross River House of Assembly and member representing Ogoja State Constituency, expressed confidence that Otu will win the state for APC in 2023.

    He thanked Gov. Ben Ayade of the state for keeping to his words in ensuring that a candidate from the southern part of the state should emerge with a view to returning power to Cross River South

  • APC Guber primary: Two party flagbearers emerge in Ebonyi state

    The All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Ebonyi State on Thursday held Parallel  Primary elections  and they produced two gubernatorial candidates ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

    Findings show  that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the state is divided, one faction is led by the governor David Umahi and another, by Elias Mbam.

    The Ebonyi Governor held his factional guber primary at the township stadium in the state while the other primary election held at an undisclosed venue in the same state.

    Umahi’s side produced the speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, EBSHA, Mr Francis Nwifuru  as the winner.

    Mbam, who is the former chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and fiscal commission was declared the winner of the second parallel primary election.

    It was gathered that Mbam’s faction had stormed the unity square where the electoral materials were distributed in the early hours of Thursday to participate in the gubernatorial primaries but were allegedly attacked by suspected thugs.

    However, Mbam who was declared the winner by a returning officer, Mr. Inya Otu who conducted his faction’s primaries said “Mbam secured 741 votes, Francis Nwifuru secured 7 votes, Julius Ali Ucha got 4 votes, Edward Nkwagu got 2 votes, Rosemary Ofoke got 1 vote, while invalid votes is 22.

    “With these results, Elias Mbam having secured the highest votes is hereby returned elected as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Ebonyi state” he stated.

    In a reaction, Elias Mbam said: “I want to thank all the delegates from the 171 wards of the state for founding me worthy to fly the flag of APC in the state. I assure the people that APC will win the 2023 election and will continue to retain power in the state” he stated.

    Also, the Governor David Umahi’s faction group elected Francis Nwifuru as the winner by securing the highest votes of 743.

    The returning officer, Prof. Emmanuel Adeboye who declared Nwifuru winner said, “Ali Julius Ucha got 22 votes, Edward Nkwagu got 8 votes, Elias Mbam got 10 votes, Rosemary Ofoke got 63 votes while the invalid votes are 5.

    “Mr. Francis Nwifuru for having secured the highest votes is hereby elected and returned as the gubernatorial candidate of APC in Ebonyi state” he announced.
