2023: Shekarau will take decision on dumping NNPP for APC this week – Yau

Insinuations are rife that the former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau would decide on whether to dump the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) or stick with the party.

Shekarau’s spokesperson, Sula Yau made this statement on Tuesday in Kano.

Recall that Shekarau was the presidential candidate of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party in 2011 and one of the leaders of the party in the alliance talks with the leaders of the other legacy parties that resulted in the formation of the APC in 2013.

Shekarau dumped the APC for NNPP after having a disagreement with Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje following a leadership tussle between the two political heavyweights in the state.

However, Shekarau is also not in the good books of the NNPP presidential candidate over the party’s power-sharing formula.

According to Yau, Shekarau would weigh his options and come up with a decision before the week runs out.

He said, “You see, various groups and people are making contact with him; he has met with Peter Obi who visited him. Kashim Shettima has visited him. Atiku Abubakar has visited him twice and now Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is visiting him.

I’ve no quarrel with Tinubu, but he’s a bundle of lies – Bode George

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, has tagged the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as a “bundle of lies.”

George said he has nothing against the former governor of Lagos only that everything about him are not true.

Speaking with Channels Television last night, George said: “I absolutely have no qualms, no quarrel with Tinubu, but all I know is that everything he has said he was or his name is this or his school is that it’s a bundle of lies.

“I’m a bonafide Lagosian, we knew what Lagos was like, and Lagos remains the commercial nerve centre, not only in Nigeria but in the whole of West Africa. What has this fellow done to us?”

The PDP chieftain charged Tinubu to open up on the ownership of Alpa Beta company.

He said the APC presidential candidate should tell Nigerians how much the company has allegedly stolen from the Lagos State Government.

“I have asked a very simple question and none of them has been able to answer it: who owns the Alpha Beta company? How much has the Alpha Beta company stolen from the coffers of our treasury in Lagos state?

“What has he done to alleviate the pains of the people of the state?” he asked.

APC debunks plots to remove its party chair, Abdullahi Adamu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday in Abuja, debunked reports of plots to remove Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, its National Chairman.

Mr Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary in a statement, said the report was being sponsored by opposition political parties.

“The attention of the APC has been drawn to opposition-sponsored media reports on plots to remove the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu.

“The reports are based on the imagination of its sponsors ostensibly unnerved by the remarkable achievements of Sen. Adamu since assuming office as the national chairman,” he said..

Morka said the APC and its leaders were currently focused on the important task of building a strong and vibrant electoral campaign ahead and would not be distracted by ‘boring chirps of idle speculators.’

He said, ”the opposition PDP was quite welcomed to continue to dissipate its energies on innuendos and chasing after phantom plots in APC rather than concentrate on mending its broken and acrimonious house.

”The APC National Working Committee (NWC) remained united under Adamu’s leadership as the party’s national chairman, with the singular commitment to winNing 2023 General Elections.”

Nigerians should remain vigilant, APC ‘ll come out with another antics – Rep Mbora

House of Representative member from Cross River, Eta Mbora has said that Nigerians should be very vigilant as the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) will come out with another antics ahead of 2023 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP member who represents Odukpani/Calabar Municipal, said this while speaking with newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday.

The lawmaker, who expressed concern over the poverty level, the spate of kidnappings, and banditry in the country, however, noted that only the main opposition party, could squarely address the nation’s current insecurity challenges.

He noted that the ruling APC, in spite of its propaganda to wrestle power from the PDP in 2015, had failed to implement half of the promises it used in “deceiving Nigerians”.

According to him, Nigerians should remain vigilant as the APC will come out with another antic with the aim to deceive the people into entrusting them with the management of the country.

He said: “I’m sure Nigerians must have by now, learnt bitter lessons from the deceitful party called APC.

“It is obvious and better known to the people that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government has no clue on how to better the country, which was why they launched serious propaganda to oust PDP from power in 2015.

“My appeal to the people is to be wary of them (APC) as 2023 approaches again. I personally see them coming out stronger this time with antics to again deceive the people into giving them another chance.”

He said there was no alternative to the PDP adding that records showed that the PDP remained the best option to lead the country at the critical time.

Mbora, who is seeking re-election for the Odukpani/Calabar Municipal federal constituency seat, said he remained committed to improving the lots of his constituents if reelected in 2023

  • 2023: PDP chair, Iyorchia Ayu won’t resign, no intention to

2023: PDP chair, Iyorchia Ayu won’t resign, no intention to

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has disclosed that there is no plan for him to resign his position.

Ayu’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr. Simon Imobo-Tswana made the clarification in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

“We restate, therefore, that the PDP National Chairman has not resigned and has no plan of resigning. For clarity and emphasis, he was elected for a tenure of four years.

“Sections 45 and 47 of the PDP Constitution are clear on the removal and/or resignation of the National Chairman.

“Those who don’t know this should get copies of the party’s Constitution for more information on the matter.

“PDP members and the general public are advised to ignore any story of such a phantom resignation,” he said.

According to him, the stories purported that Ayu had resigned and that his resignation letter is with a former Senate President, David Mark is false and members of the public should disregard it.

Imobo-Tswam said that with all emphasis, the story was, in its entirety, false, baseless, reckless, inaccurate, and a complete work of fiction.

“If there is such a resignation, it exists only in the imagination of those who have made themselves available for hatchet jobs,” he said.

Imobo-Tswam said that if Ayu had resigned, he would give his resignation letter to the Deputy Chairman (North) and not Mark, adding Section 45 (I and ii) of the party’s Constitution was clear on that.

“So, where does Mark comes in here, being that he is not even a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC)

“It appears that those who have been procured to blackmail the national chairman out of office are not even aware of what the party’s Constitution says about the matter.

“We are shocked that such reckless, vicious, mischievous and fabricated falsehood can find prime space in the mainstream media.

“But, even more shocking is the fact that otherwise respected media houses have made themselves easy platforms for unscrupulous people to peddle falsehood and run smear campaigns,” he alleged.

Imobo-Tswam emphasised that the national chairman, “is on a crucial assignment to lead the PDP on a historic rescue mission comes February 2023.

“And, he will not be deterred or distracted by media terrorism or political blackmail.

  • JUST IN: Labour Party rejects Odibo’s appointment as spokesperson

JUST IN: Labour Party rejects Odibo’s appointment as spokesperson

The Labour Party (LP) on Saturday, said it had not appointed Mr Charles Odibo as its spokesperson as announced by Prof. Pat Utomi .

A statement signed by Mr Arabambi Abayomi, National Publicity Secretary on Saturday in Abuja,  said that the  National Consultative Front (NCF ) had no constitutional power to make appointments for the party.

Abayomi said that only National Chairman Julius Abure could do that.

“Our attention has been drawn to the news intercepted through multiple news medium that one Mr Charles Odibo has been appointed as the  Spokesman of Labour Party by Prof. Pat Utomi.

”It is not undisputed that  LP has not made such an appointment since Utomi who is the leader of NCF cannot usurp the function of the National Chairman.

“For the records, Utomi who is the leader of the NCF, a strong affiliate of the LP , while in a zoom meeting introduced Charles Odibo as the Media Head of the “Big Tent”, an acronym for the NCF and  No mention of LP was made on that platform.

“All appointments by the LP are made through the office of the national chairman and announcement made by the National Publicity Secretary under the directive of the national chairman, he said.

    According to Abayomi, for emphasis and clarity: Article 14 sub section 1(a) of the Labour Party constitution states as follows;

”The national chairman shall give leadership to the party and shall preside over all meetings of the National Executive Council and the National Working Committee of the party.”

He said the constitutional provision quoted above,  vested the power of all appointments and leadership only to the person and the office of the national chairman.

“LP now uses this opportunity to say the LP is guided by the constitution in all its activities.

”As such, all members of the party as well as interested members of the public presently in LP should from here on, take serious caution that the function of the national  chairman as head of LP is not in question.”

Abayomi, therefore, urged that everyone should obey the constitution of the Labour Party and be guided by the party’s directives.

2023: Police in Oyo begin sensitisation of stakeholders

The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, has commenced sensitisation talks with political stakeholders in preparation for hitch-free campaigns ahead of the 2023 general polls in the state.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Adewale Osifeso, made this known in a statement on Friday in Ibadan.

Osifeso said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adebowale Williams while addressing the stakeholders, enjoined them to embrace peace and shun acts capable of truncating the relative peace and tranquillity enjoyed by residents.

Williams highlighted measures already put in place toward realising hitch-free campaigns and the general polls.

He told the gathering that the command had formed a special crowd control unit to cater to cases of crowd management before, during and after the campaigns.

Williams said that there would be regular patrols across the length and breadth of the state, intelligence-led stop- and-searchs and technology-aided surveillance during the period.

He called on parents, guardians and leaders wielding various degrees of influence to prevail on their children, wards and protégées to avoid being used as cannon fodders by agents of mischief to disrupt the polity.

Nobody can push me out of APC – Senator Nwaogu

Senator Nkechi Nwaogu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has carpeted fifth columnists over the reports of her purported resignation as a member of the party.

Senator Nwaogu, who was also the immediate past Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Board Council of the Federal University of Calabar, Cross-River State, refuted this in a statement by her media aide, Kelechi Onyendi, on Thursday.

She clarified that she had no intention under whatever guise to dump the APC for another party and that those nursing such a mirage were suffering from dementia and schizophrenia.

Nwaogu who further boasted that nobody can push her out from the APC, described the news of her purported resignation as a member of the party as a figment of the imagination of the writer.

He said, “while we do not want to dignify the backyard media man, we need to clarify the issues on ground and set the records straight for the avoidance of doubt.

“The factional Abia APC under Ikechi Emenike has decided to sideline Umunneator Ngwa extraction by giving both the senatorial and gubernatorial ticket to Umuahia. Senator Nkechi Nwaogu has not thought about defecting to any party but had condemned in totality the marginalization of Umunneator Ngwa under factional gubernatorial candidate, Ikechi Emenike.

“Nobody can push Senator Nkechi Nwaogu out of APC. Anyone thinking that she can quit from our party is hallucinating. She will be the one to chase them out from APC, because they have nothing to offer. We shall see who will laugh last”.

On the issue of the 2023 governorship election, Senator Nwaogu admonished the electorates in Abia State to vote for a credible and transparent candidate who will position Abia “to become a State of our desire.”
