2023: Atiku, Tinubu should tell Nigerians their true health status now – Obi/Datti Media office

… says Nigerians are tired of seeing photoshopped videos/photos

The Obi-Datti campaign team of the Labour Party has declared that Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party should tell Nigerians the true health status of their flag bearers

The Labour Party also stated that the duo are not physically fit to lead Nigeria in 2023.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this was contained in a public statement issued in Abuja asking the duo to respect the electorate and quit the presidential race immediately and give way for voters to choose from among the fit and proper candidates.

“Abubakar and Tinubu should stop ridiculing the Nigerian electoral system by running in and out of hospitals for treatment abroad while withholding the truth about their true health status, still expecting Nigerian voters to look their way.

“We challenge the two candidates to unveil their true health condition to the Independent National Electoral Commission to enable the electoral umpire to make a meaningful decision on their continuing in the race.

“The office of the President is the biggest job in the land and requires that those aspiring to do the work must not just be healthy but must be seen to be so.

“By the constitution of Nigeria, the buck stops at the table of the President who takes responsibility for virtually every aspect of governance including delicate areas like that of Commander-in-Chief of the nation’s military. The occupier of such an office must be of sound mind and body.

“To do this job the candidate aspiring must not just be mentally and physically ready but his discernment must be above average at all times.

“The Obi-Datti media team finds it extremely embarrassing and insulting that spokespeople of the would-be presidents deceiving the public with lies and photoshopped images of obviously physically and mentally handicapped candidates.

“Nigerians deserve some respect from these candidates; a few days after the APC spin doctors fed Nigerians with lies about the health of its flag bearer, claiming he was in the United Kingdom attending meetings and consulting with Diasporans. He indeed was being treated for undisclosed ailments. The PDP candidate, also Tuesday, abandoned all his scheduled campaign programmes and rushed to France to attend to his health, but instead of telling Nigerians the truth, spokespeople are busy showing fake photos to deceive and distract.

“What is glaring and cannot be hidden anywhere any day is age and so long as these two candidates are economical with their true age and health status so long they will be living in denial.

“We, therefore, demand that INEC take more diligent and conscientious steps in scrutinising these candidates ahead of the election rather than feed the public with choices from incapable and challenged candidates.”

TNG recalls that the health status of the duo has been a subject of public scrutiny since both veteran politicians declared intentions to lead Nigeria in 2023.

…drafts Odili, Ibori and Mark to mediate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly suspended its presidential campaign temporarily over Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to reconcile him and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar .

It was gathered that the campaign rally was suspended at the instance of Atiku who, party sources said, had drafted three prominent PDP stakeholders to mediate in the standoff between him and the Rivers Governor.

Atiku was reported to have drafted a former Senate President, David Mark; a former Rivers Governor, Peter Odili and a former Delta Governor, James Ibori as mediators.

It was further gathered that the campaign was suspended to give the three new “arbitrators” a chance to undertake and conclude their assignment.

  • 2023: Atiku, Tinubu ought to have been disqualified from presidential race – Doyin Okupe

2023: Atiku, Tinubu ought to have been disqualified from presidential race – Doyin Okupe

… says their records alone and allegations are enough reasons

…Atiku is a product of an unjust process

… Tinubu another product of a skewed process

Director General of the Labour Party, LP Campaign council, Dr Doyin Okupe has said both presidential candidates of the PDP and APC ought to have been disqualified if there were a strict pre-qualification process.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports Okupe made this disclosure in a press conference to announce the party’s campaign council list.

    Hear him:
“I personally have no doubt, putting all sentiments aside, that if there were a strict prequalification process , discredited parties such as the APC and the PDP will have been disqualified, from the start of this Presidential race .

“And I am not talking here, about the dubious nature of educational records, nor even allegations of foreign court certified criminal narcotic records , nor any basis of poor health, and not even of falsified or advanced age.

“But I refer to the fundamental parameters of competence and character, where none of these other known candidates, measure up, in any way, to the sterling qualities of Mr Peter Obi and Dr Yusuf Datti-Ahmed.

“Similarly, on the considerations of true nationalism, geographical equity and fairness of ticket, none of them comes close.

“The PDP candidate is a product of an unjust and dishonourable process, that clearly violates the equitable rights of the entire southern Nigeria, and the desire for balance in Presidential power , already enshrined in the constitution and history of that party, which was shamelessly subverted by subterfuge, and indeed anything built on injustice , ungodliness and evil conspiracy, can never stand.

“As for the APC, the presidential candidacy is fundamentally flawed , through the adoption of a skewed and insensitive muslim-muslim ticket ,despite all objections across religious lines, in a highly religiously sensitive country like Nigeria , at a time where all reason, calls for maturity , fairness , equity, justice and balance, for the good of the country.

He explained that:”In all honesty, these errors of selfish and opportunistic political manipulation, are not only short sighted and dangerous , but strike at the very heart of Nigeria’s peaceful coexistence, and in fact the very survival of the nation as an entity.

“And that is why, in response to this affront to good judgement , more than at any time in our history, our country is today witnessing her hottest, fiercest and most dynamic citizen-led political experience, spearheaded largely by the youth population.

    Read full statement below:

“Let me start by registering my profound gratitude to all Nigerians who have enthusiastically embraced our message, and our Presidential candidate, and in particular to the millions who identify with the OBIdient movement nationwide , organising selflessly and relentlessly pursuing their hope in a New Nigeria.

“When on 30th May 2022, Mr Peter Obi was entrusted by the membership of our great Labour Party as its Presidential Candidate for the 2023 elections , after the PDP had failed in courage to live up to the due process,

“He was always clear, in thought and conviction, of his calling and capability to seek and win the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This aspiration and conviction was farther reinforced by his choice Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed an astute educator, businessman, Former legislator and new breed politician, on the 8th July 2022 as his Vice Presidential Candidate , to very loud acclaim.

“However, in the dramatic sequence of these events , our candidate’s entry into this political race has resulted in an explosion of excitement across the vastness of Nigeria, in the diaspora, and indeed the global community,

“This has been lovingly and organically expressed in his overwhelming acceptance by the people of Nigeria, through the robust and endearing presentation of his record, personality, vision, policies and promise.

“There is no doubt that this ascendancy of our Presidential Ticket, to prime position in the hearts and minds of the Nigerian people, has been fuelled by the patriotic zeal, vibrancy , creativity and shining example, in discipline, character and decency of the Obidient movement ,

“Which has today rapidly evolved into the biggest voluntary political movement in Nigeria history.

“In just about four months, this organic and massively structured movement, consisting of Nigerians from all walks of life , from varying backgrounds and circumstances of life, from the young and not so young, from professions, vocations and occupations of all variations, and from every region, nook and corner of the country, have set a record in political mobilisation , organisation and loyalty , not experienced in recent Nigerian History .

“Unknown to many , a significant number of the youth and drivers of this movement, are active members and supporters of the other political parties such as the APC and PDP, who could not ignore the overbearing superiority in leadership quality , personal disposition , national appeal, private and public service record, and the clear cut expression of vision and governance solutions, which Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed have come to represent, for all true lovers of progress and national rebirth.

“So, it is significant to observe and also to underline, that the Obidient movement, has today risen above religion, ethnicity , political affiliation and all narrow sentiment, to become a truly national movement of Nigerians, prepared for full participation , in this universal mission of national reconstruction.

“I am personally a firm believer in the philosophy of the Obidient movement, and in the emerging reality, that Nigerians will only remain divided, as long as they allow it, and will only permit national degradation , as long as they do nothing about it.

“The truth is that the errors of the past, have done painful incalculable damage, to the psyche of our people, the economy of our country , the peaceful existence and security of every citizen, and to the quality of our public services and our private lives.

“President Buhari has just presented the 2022/23 budget to the National assembly , and in that document, it can be seen that of the 20.5 trillion naira, totally budgeted, actual revenue available to fund the budget is 9.73 trillion naira , leaving a deficit of almost 11 trillion naira , with fuel subsidy alone, gulping 3.6 trillion naira, in the first six months of next year.

“In effect, this means that the present economic situation, as it affects the common people, is not likely to abate , and I say this not in exaggeration or to heighten fears , but in vivid and responsible assessment of the stark reality.

“So ,at this time in our history , there can be no middle ground, in the requirement for informed, effective and firm leadership, to begin the hard work, of turning around our national story and our cloudy outlook.

“My dear Nigerians, astute OBIdients and people of goodwill , in recent weeks, all political permutations , empirical polls and honest true reflection, from the hearts and minds of even those who are publicly on the opposing side, have placed Peter Obi, clearly and far ahead, of the pack , as the right man for the transformational leadership Nigeria needs , at this august juncture .

“I personally have no doubt, putting all sentiment aside, that if there were a strict prequalification process , discredited parties such as the APC and the PDP will have been disqualified, from the start of this Presidential race ,

“And I am not talking here, about the dubious nature of educational records, nor even allegations of foreign court certified criminal narcotic records , nor any basis of poor health, and not even of falsified or advanced age ,

” In all honesty, these errors of selfish and opportunistic political manipulation, are not only short sighted and dangerous , but strike at the very heart of Nigeria’s peaceful coexistence, and in fact the very survival of the nation as an entity.

“And that is why, in response to this affront to good judgement , more than at any time in our history, our country is today witnessing her hottest, fiercest and most dynamic citizen-led political experience, spearheaded largely by the youth population.

“This dynamism is worth reflecting upon, because it is not only novel in our history, but also lies at the crux of our country’s direction and ultimate destination, in the nearest future.

“Today, as we commence the campaigns for the 2023 round of elections, the registered voter population figure has tripled, since 2019, and Over 60% of the nearly 100 million registered voters today, consists of the youth population.

“And again, the most remarkable, organic, self-funded movement, at the vanguard of the political temperature in present time :the New Nigeria movement, is made up of this youth population.

“It is a fact , beyond contest, that this movement has taken on a life of its own, and today has become an unprecedented and formidable force in our national equation, beyond all imagination.

“Its continued growth, smart networking and unceasing expansion across all regions of the country, and its strong resilience against all attempts to stifle and underplay its strength , by the corrupt people who are now facing the pressure of change, is firm confirmation, that what we are seeing today is no child’s play.

” I make bold to say , while the reality is becoming clearer to everyone, that these are the people who will decide the immediate future of this country.

“The key message of the New Nigeria Movement , also known as the Take Back Nigeria Movement and more popularly as The Obidient Movement, signposts what all key stakeholders in the Nigerian project, and all well-meaning friends and partners of Nigeria, across the world , must give serious thought, and attention to.

“The Nigerian youth, by this new, unprecedented demonstration of political vibrancy, have signalled to the failing and fading established political order, and transactional political class, that they are tired of the leadership failure that has brought Nigeria, the giant of Africa, to her knees today.

“The arrogant, corrupt and clearly selfish practices of this old order politicians and their parties, who believe they can always buy their way into power, and always compromise every institution, have now been spotlighted, and stand totally rejected, by this new class of Nigerian voters.

“The large crowds of highly disciplined ,self organised, self-funded, self-motivated and clearly trans-ethnic-politico-religious groups, and vocal associations of youths, simultaneously calling for a new political culture and new leadership personae, across all the country’s political regions, in a sustained, orderly, but insistent manner, is a clear call and warning to us, as a country – to sit up, shape up and do what is right, before it becomes too late.

“While those who want to remain wilfully or self deceitfully ignorant, may continue to taunt or tar this renaissance with bigoted, ethnic and amoral paint, it is important to deeply reflect on the evolution of political epochs, and the foundational histories of citizen revolts, in different parts of the world,

“And not fail, in our duty of ensuring, that we do not fall at cross purposes with the message of this rising army of young, angry but patriotic young Nigerians , at this time in our national history.

“It is common knowledge, that the bedrock of democracy, is the peoples’ power; and the most resourceful and powerful manifestation of this, in any society, is the youth segment,

“Any society that ignores the energies, frustrations, protestations and legitimate aspirations of the youth, may just be a step away, from anarchy.

“At this juncture, for the avoidance of doubt, let me state here clearly that our Party, the Labour Party, as well as the Obi-Datti Presidential ticket of the party, have not spent a kobo to organise, influence, or secure the massive following and support, we have been getting from the Obidient Movement, to date.

“But yet, this movement has grown bigger than any political party in the land today… and indeed ,Nigeria, since inception, has never ever witnessed such a phenomenon.

“We in the Obi-Datti Presidential Organisation and the Labour Party, are totally and graciously humbled by this massive adoption of our candidate, as the preferred candidate of the overwhelming number of the Nigerian youth and also, the middle age class, for the forthcoming election.

“We have come to learn, that the faith and belief of this overwhelming majority of Nigerians, particularly from the youth and middle age population segments, is founded on the perception and trust in our Presidential Team, as sincere, capable, visionary and prudent.

“In addition , our policy options canvassed as solutions, for salvaging our country, are also understood and generally accepted, as sensible, workable and desirable.

“We can also not discountenance the fact that credible socio-political organisation’s, and regional associations across the country, have equally expressed their trust and ,thrown their weight behind our party, and its presidential candidates, for practically the same reasons, as the Obidient groups.

“We are extremely proud, to tell the whole world, that this unprecedented political acceptance of Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba -Ahmed, now burns like a raging flame in the minds of Nigerians, who are overwhelmingly yearning for a new class of leadership, to rescue the country from its present inadequacies.

“This organic movement , the patriotic platform known as the Obidient Movement, now represents the potency and altruism at the very foundation of the Labour Party and the Obi-Datti national Structure.

“Our meeting of minds with this movement, is based on our shared ideals of Credibility, Character, Competence and Commitment, which must henceforth be the key ingredients of leadership, that we must never, as a people and as a nation, compromise, in the birth of a new dispensation.

“However, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, In all of this, we will be failing in our responsibility if we do not , in all sincerity, point all Nigerians to the clear danger signs ahead, as we move steadily towards the polls.

“The current political renaissance and re-energised patriotism of our youths, now means voter apathy is giving way, and the citizens’ are now firmly embracing their patriotic political responsibility.

“While this is a good development, it comes with a challenge and a warning, to all connected with conducting elections in the country, to play by the rules, and be as transparent, professional and non-partisan as possible, if we do not want to instigate the same energies of the youths to turn against all, in calamitous manifestation, that is better imagined… than allowed to crystallize.

“In the light of the above, our appeal to the Security agencies, the Judiciary, our retired military and police officers, the middle class, Civil servants, professional bodies and pensioners, is that this is no time for complacency or conspiracy.

“You must position as a strong vanguard against evil , contributing your patriotic voices and inputs, firmly, in defence of Nigeria’s corporate existence.

“We charge you to stand tall against all nefarious political practices, and vile tendencies, that may want to sabotage the peace and progressive march of our dear country.

“To all our religious torchbearers and revered traditional leaders , we request that you intensify prayers and coordinated community efforts against miscreants and rascals, that may want to truncate the destiny of our dear country.

“To the academia and the intelligentsia, our charge is that you rise up to protect our democracy, by refusing to be compromised in your ad-hoc and advisory roles.

“To INEC we say, this is the your biggest test in recent history, and you have no choice, but to act as a fair, impartial, fearless and patriotic umpire, in the coming elections.

“We have noted with extreme concern and worry, the revelations by the Congress of Political Parties (CUPP), as to how presumed agents of the ruling party have infiltrated and compromised the INEC voter registration portals in 18 states.

“We have also noted, painfully, the concerns expressed by various NGOs, about how the ruling party has smuggled card carrying members of the party, into the INEC officials appointment process, setting them up as Recs, and other key operational personnel.

“We have also seen citizens in various parts of the country, recovering thousands of voter cards, dumped in drainages and refuse dumps.

“It is also instructive that these patriotic concerns, have been largely ignored by the government of the day.

“What all these convey, is that efforts are already afoot to compromise INEC as a way of sabotaging the country’s democratic election process, and the will of the people, to freely choose the leaders they want, in a free, fair and credible election.

“What we are sure of, however, is that , in the fullness of time, no criminal manipulation will suceed in these elections, whether they be computer or electronically conceived .. or manually and martially enforced.

“It is our hope and expectation that INEC and its leadership will choose to write their name in gold, and give their conscience, a dose of good health, by doing what is right, noble and patriotic.

“We are watching and taking notes. We know, and we remind INEC, that the whole world too, is watching and taking notes.

“In view of the undercurrents we have highlighted above, we call on the international community, to express more than routine interest in this election of 2023.

“Nigeria occupies a most strategic place in our continental sub-region. With a population of over 200 million people, it cannot be overemphasised, that the peace, tranquillity, stability and political well-being of Nigeria, should be of great interest to the world community,

“You are no doubt well informed, of the heightening signals in our country, and the fact that any crisis in this biggest black nation on earth, would have untold consequences, on the entire world, in many ramifications.

“To all political parties and players on the scene, let us be guided that the tide has changed. It is no longer business as usual.

“The notorious practice of compromising the system with corrupt inducement and money politics, and by the manipulation of the regulatory and security agencies, is no longer the norm, and will be hard to fly in these elections.

“Already, we have seen, earlier this year, in this very dispensation, how corrupt money politics and evil political conspiracies, have destroyed unity, peace and cohesion, and stifled healthy democratic determination, in the internal structures of political parties, leading to heightened tensions and political disaffection.

“But we cannot allow these unhealthy practices, to continue to truncate the destiny of our nation. As leaders who profess love for the country and the people we aspire to lead, we must resolve to put a stop to these practices, this time, and commit to playing fairly, by the rules.

“To the vast Nigerian majority who are wallowing in the unmerited poverty and sordid deprivations that decades of poor leadership has foisted on our country, the coming 2023 election, offers you a great chance to use your vote to turn around the situation.

“As the overall protectors and custodians of real democracy, your vote is your power and Your PVC is the ticket, to install a responsible government that will be fair , capable, honest and attentive.

    “This is your time….

“Our Great party, the Labour Party of Nigeria, is fully committed and totally reenergised, to making Nigeria work, and progressively develop… and you can hold us to our word, that The Labour Party presidency of Peter Obi, will cut wastage, and take bold steps to move Nigeria from Consumption..to Production.

“Within 4 years , the Obi-Datti administration will embark on an aggressive investment drive in practicable smart agriculture outlays, that will see the entire Northern part of the country, become an agricultural mass production and export hub, with the same maximisation of potential , in each and every region of the country.

“To the Labour Unions and working people, this is our joint undertaking, and we must resist anyone who attempts to break our ranks. The people have mandated us to action, and we cannot pander to those who seek to shamelessly manipulate and retain themselves in power, despite their glaring rejection.

“To the Obidient Movement, we say, we have shown our zeal and strength in preparation , but now we must show our dexterity and courage, in operation.

“We must make sure that no PVC is left uncollected, and that everyone comes out to discharge his vote, according to his conscience….and we must apply all legal means, to resist those, who plan to corrupt, circumvent, manipulate or disrupt the process,

“And by tacit engagement and thinking ahead of all machinations, see this election to fair and logical conclusion, no matter how the system may introduce turns and tricks.

“This is the time we have prepared for, we cannot afford to fail.

“Finally, I cannot but thank the Nigerian media for your tremendous sacrifice and great role, as guardians of our democracy.

“Along with election observers and civil society, the country will owe a great debt of gratitude, for your professional advocacy and watchdog responsibility, which you have applied at times, under most excruciating conditions.

“As institutional allies and strong partners of the popular will , the true majority and the common peoples, we thank you and salute your courage.

“Nigerians are counting on you, and the world shall be looking to you, to unearth and express the truth -for you shall be the eyes and ears of the world, in this most important elections.

“Let me assure all Nigerians, that as we commence the campaign for the 2023 election, in earnest, our party and our candidates, will remain committed to honest, clean and issue-based engagements, with the Nigerian people, whose mandate we seek, in order to turn around the fortunes of this our great, but badly misgoverned country.

“But let it be also known to the world , that we shall not shy away from legally and robustly engaging any evil attempt, to compromise due process, equity ,transparency and fairness.

2023: Again, thugs beat Labour Party supporters, burn vehicles in Enugu

Barely 48hours after presidential candidate of LP Peter Obi had complained bitterly over the beating of an Obidient, hoodlums believed to be political thugs have attacked a Labour Party’s ward meeting in Enugu State and burnt vehicles belonging to members of the party.

The incident which happened at Umuida, Enugu-Ezike, in the Igbo-Eze North local government area of state is the fourth time hoodlums would be attacking meetings called by Labour Party in the state.

Eyewitnesses told journalists in Nsukka that the hoodlums attacked the ward meeting on Sunday at Umuida community.

We were at the meeting when four guys on two bikes arrived at the venue and started shooting in the air.

Everyone ran away, the ward chairman and others ran forgetting their car keys on the table. We noticed that the gunmen set some vehicles and motorcycles ablaze.
They also drove away with a Camry which stopped after a while, due to security. The engine stopped and the two guys came down and set the car ablaze and left.”

Labour Party political meeting has been attacked in Aninri, Awgu, Oji River, and now at Igboeze North Local Government Areas all in Enugu State in the last two months.

The police have yet to confirm the incident as efforts to speak with the Command’s spokesman DSP Daniel Ndukwe were unsuccessful as he didn’t answer his calls.

The Labour Party has not issued a statement on the recent development, however, the party earlier vowed that no amount of intimidation would stop the party from the politics of the state and the country.

  • 2023: Expectedly, PDP’s Campaign Flag-off in Uyo was a massive disaster – APC

2023: Expectedly, PDP’s Campaign Flag-off in Uyo was a massive disaster – APC

…says it’s shameful that discredited Ayu was on the podium

The Presidential Campaign Council PCC of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has described Monday’s presidential campaign flag-off of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP as an expected massive disaster.

Minister of State, Labour and Productivity, Mr Festus Keyamo SAN in a late-Monday statement noted that the
launch of PDP’s presidential campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was, as expected, a disaster waiting to happen.

“Once again, the delinquent PDP continued to treat the now discerning Nigerian public with disdain and disrespect”, he stated.

Keyamo who is also the Director of Public Affairs and Chief Spokesperson of the Tinubu/Shettima (APC) Presidential Campaign Council added that aside the obscenity of a poorly-scripted farce misnamed a flag-off, Nigerians suffered additional trauma of having to witness a show of shame, listening to a litany of falsehoods spewed out at the gathering by failed, expired and rejected politicians.

“Speaker after speaker kept echoing a farrago of incomprehensible political jargons that left most Nigerians wondering whether it was a circus.

“For example, if not the loss of the sense of shame, what else could have goaded PDP’s now discredited ‘sit tight’ National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to be audacious enough to stand on a podium today in Uyo and make any promise to Nigerians?

” Has he been able to fulfill the promise he made to himself and his party members to step down from office should a Northerner emerge as the presidential candidate at their party primaries?

‘How can a party that cannot unite itself promise to unite Nigeria? How can a party that brazenly violates its own constitution on zoning be trusted to obey the constitution of Nigeria if again trusted with power?”, Keyamo wonderd.

He said a flag-off campaign that was shunned by the National Vice-Chairmen of the South-South, South-West, and five sitting Governors out of thirteen, is a definitive and resounding red-flag that Nigerians should not vote the Presidential candidate of the PDP in this coming election.

According to him, if the people’s representatives at the state levels are so unanimously against their party’s candidate that they would shun his campaign launch, then indeed, we would say to Nigerians, “A word is enough for the wise”.

“Fortunately, to the benefit of Nigerians, there remains a few good men within PDP.

These honourable men belonging to the party’s NWC, deemed it right to return hundreds of millions of Naira allegedly transferred into their individual bank accounts as “hush money” to suppress the investigation of the scandal of humongous financial misappropriation levelled against their National Chairman.

“It is quite obvious to Nigerians that the PDP is a house that is divided against itself and it sure won’t stand. At their presidential campaign flag-off in Uyo today, the absence of many of the PDP State Governors tells a story to Nigerians that no amount of political jamboree can whitewash PDP’s cracked walls.

“It tells a story of a budding autocratic leadership, nourished by impunity, which now fans the flame of divisions and absolute disrespect for laid down rules and regulation.

“Not much should, therefore, be expected from such a gathering. With the obvious inability of its Presidential Candidate to assuage frayed nerves of disaffected persons within their ranks, how will it be possible for such a person to unite people within such a diverse landscape as Nigeria? You definitely cannot give what you don’t have”, he added.

The APC PCC noted that after being voted out of power in 2015 ignominiously, Nigerians had hoped that the PDP would, by now, be contrite as a party.

He said many had expected it would be able to muster the organizational acumen to play a formidable opposition Party, having been at the helm of running the affairs of the nation for 16 years prior to its disgraceful fall in 2015.

According to him, such expectations now seem far-fetched, adding that rather than seize every opportunity to redeem its battered image, PDP has continued on its free fall, much the same way it bungled the running of the affairs of the country for 16 good years in an orgy of incompetence, unabated corruption and impunity.

“The PDP and its self-conceited leadership failed woefully to put its house in order before hitting the streets to ask for the votes of Nigerians and ironically, telling Nigerians they are on a rescue mission. Till date, their National Secretariat remains uncompleted, whilst the APC, in its relatively shorter existence, now has a permanent headquarters.

“Our democracy is young. This Fourth Republic is barely 24 years old. But then, a 24 years old man would be said to be coming of age. At this time, Nigerians are no longer interested in a trial-and-error leadership.

“Those who have not been proven to be “good enough” leaders should have no access to our highest office. If nothing else speaks to the disaster an Abubakar Atiku presidency will be, this crisis within the PDP does so eloquently.

“It is high time Nigerians called out the PDP for their spurious promises and the obnoxious behaviour of their helmsmen.

” It is highly unfortunate that some of the most honorable of their leaders are being sacrificed on the altar of the greed of a few persons and their inordinate ambition”, he added.

2023: Shut your traps, Tinubu slams PDP, LP, boasts APC will retain power

    vows he would end insecurity

…says after 16yrs in power PDP failed to understand ripple effects of retaining power

The Presidential flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Monday asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and other political parties who are calling for a change of government in 2023 to shut up as his party must retain power in 2023.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports the ruling party presidential candidate revealed this in his remarks in Abuja at the inauguration of the Tinubu/Shetimma Women Presidential Team for the 2023 general elections.

Tinubu who said the APC will retain power in 2023 said that the opponents were in power for 16 years but failed to understand the ripple effects of restoring power for industrialisation.

He also said with his candidature as President, he would end banditry and poverty and restore hope, peace, and security.

“If they say they want a change of government, just tell them ‘we like to be polite, but shut up your mouth’.

“Prosperity is here, health is here, security is here, banditry has ended. Hopelessness is not part of our dictionary” he said.

Over 1,200 women members of the APC from across the country attended the event.

President Muhammadu Buhari was represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

  • Tinubu and Atiku’s men in ‘roforofo’ showdown before 2023 electoral battle

Tinubu and Atiku’s men in ‘roforofo’ showdown before 2023 electoral battle

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress APC may not end their ‘roforofo’ showdown until after the elections next year as the vibes emanating from both most popular parties in Nigeria in the last one week signposts imminent danger.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls that within the immediate past week the salvos being fired has entered a dangerous dimension as both parties may not shift grounds for each other.

The spokesperson of the APC presidential campaign council, activist lawyer and Minister of State, Labour and Productivity, a Senior Advocate, Festus Keyamo threw the first bombshell.

Keyamo had casually described the presidential flag bearer as a conductor searching for a job as a driver.

He did not end there, he went a step further to explain that he has nothing to point at as achievement because all he could point to was the achievements of his principal, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

This development and outbursts of Keyamo pumped up the adrenaline in PDP and the major opposition party fired from all cylinders with lacer wired bullets.

In response, the PDP described their flag bearer as a drug baron searching for a job as head of an anti-narcotics agency.

The PDP did not stop there, it addressed a press conference quoting all the relevant portions of Section 183 of the constitution as amended.

Debo Ologungbade the party’s publicity scribe did not spare anything as he used Gboyega Oyetola’s case that ended up in his disqualification as a case study.

Going further to interprete it like the courts that no APC candidate is qualified to be voted for in 2023.

The APC must be preparing more weapons to counter the opposition party as the new week begins.

  • Obi at Harvard, x-rays his Government’s Policy thrust (full interview)

Obi at Harvard, x-rays his Government’s Policy thrust (full interview)

…declares looters will not escape with their booty, lists three priority areas.

The Labour Party, Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi who is in United States of America at the continuation of his international consultations with the Diasporas, has unveiled his policy thrust if elected President of Nigeria in 2023.

Obi gave a vivid picture of what his government will do in all critical areas as he responded to questions from Harvard eggheads on Wednesday October 5, 2022 at the famous University’s Fireside chat on Prospects of Transformative Governance in Nigeria.

The LP Candidate gave a cognitive answers to the over 20 questions posed by the University relating to virtually all areas of governance, restructuring, corruption, security, foreign policy, subsidy, ASUU etc.

    Hear him:

On what his top three priorities will be if elected Nigeria President, Obi said Production-centered growth for food security and export; Securing and Uniting Nigeria; and Leapfrogging Nigeria from oil to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR); Effective legal and institutional reforms (rule of law, corruption and government effectiveness); Expanding physical infrastructure through market-driven reforms (unleashing growth-enabling entrepreneurship and market-creating innovations); Human capital development that empowers competitiveness; and Robust foreign policy that restores Nigeria’s strategic relevance.

When asked frontally if the corrupt will be allowed to keep their loots, Obi gave an outright answer saying “We will have zero tolerance for corruption; block leakages and cut the cost of governance. Our total commitment to transparency and accountability in government business is the only credible way to achieve limited to zero corruption. The policies required to fight corruption already exist; it is the political will to implement them that has been lacking. My governance modalities have always been forward looking and will remain so. We will negotiate the return of our stolen national wealth from the custodial countries.

On Subsidy issues in Petroleum and Electricity, the LP candidate said that “There are two elements of subsidy- the corruption component and the real subsidy component. The oil subsidy arrangement as it stands is fraught with criminality. It is unacceptable. For the corruption, we will deal with decisively which will reduce the subsidy cost by over 50%. There will be weighted measures and counter-balance policies and programmes to cushion the impact of the removal of oil subsidy, if and when it is removed. The difference is that now, only some sacred and self-entitled few benefit from the oil subsidy. That narrative will change. We will support local refining for domestic use and priced strictly in Naira. Starting with all government vehicles, we will transition to gas powered cars.

Find below details of the Questions and Answers that gave copious insight into what governance will look like in Nigeria if Obi is elected Nigeria President in 2023…..

1.How do you see yourself making a difference in Nigeria?

    • We will offer a new brand of transformative and purposeful leadership. Nigeria is not bereft of good governance ideas and plans. However, a combination of institutional weaknesses and lack of political will meant that various policies and strategies are poorly implemented leading to poor outcomes for the people. Hence, the overall goal of my administration shall be to streamline governance, make it more responsive, transformative, effective, less transactional, and therefore efficient and cost-effective.

    2. What kind of leadership do you hope to provide Nigerians?

    • Thinking through 2023 and beyond, we must think seriously about a leadership that is imbued with competence, capacity, credibility and commitment. Accordingly, we will pursue intangible assets of good governance, rule of law, security of lives and properties; we will ensure that we have these assets in place and stress asset optimization.

    3. Africa has looked to Nigeria for leadership but has found it absent and wanting. What would you do to restore leadership?

    • Our foreign policy has always been Afrocentric. So, Africa will remain the centrepiece of our foreign policy. We will strike a strategic balance that allows us to promote and protect national interest, while meeting our ECOWAS obligations. We will rebuild Nigeria’s military power, promote economic growth, and enhance its technological prowess with a view to improving Nigeria’s diplomatic influence in sub-regional, regional and global affairs.

    • Restoring leadership will require that we reassert proactively, Nigeria’s leadership role in African affairs through constructive engagement, peacekeeping duties, and using existing sub-regional and regional forums as well as bilateral platforms for dialogue on current and emerging challenges. We will continue to enhance our sphere of influence via peacekeeping, and trade and investment initiatives.

    4. The sense of being part of a united country has been eroded. How do you see yourself reuniting Nigerians?

    • Securing, uniting and making Nigeria productive require steady and trusted hands. We shall ensure that in moving Nigeria forward, no state or community will be left behind. Pursuant to its statutory responsibility to protect, our Government will promote equity in power and resource sharing. There must be a renewed sense of patriotism; that will come through leadership by example.

    5. Do you think that states and regions need more autonomy?

    • You are indirectly asking about restructuring. I consider restructuring a process, not a one-off event. Yes, if we have a real federation, the federating units will enjoy discernible autonomy. Resources will also beshared equitably. A higher derivation paid to oil or solid minerals producing states will not be tantamount to other states not receiving federal allocations that should keep them viable. We must transcend the rhetoric that bedevils a robust debate on some of these national questions.

    6. In the past the ethnic identity of the President has resulted in a preponderance of unqualified people being appointed to key position. How will you address this problem?

    • We will respect the principles of federal character, affirmative action and gender balance; but no longer at the expense of merit.

    7. How do you propose to address the security challenges in the north and those of oil theft?

    • The relevant security institutions and agencies exist. The supporting national security enabling documents and strategies also exist. We will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of the security sector and governance. We will Restructure, Reequip and Reorient the Nigerian Police: This will include 3 level policing- Federal, state and community. We will build a Compact, Robust and Ready Mobile Police Force with Rapid Response Deployment capabilities; and Legislate the Establishment of State Police based on Community policing. We will raise the population to police officer ratio to a higher level.

    • A properly manned, equipped and technologically driven security system with particular emphasis on re-focusing the military on external threats and border protection and police on internal security threats and law enforcement; swift prosecution of criminals, bandits and terrorists; enhanced coordination among security agencies; and upholding the rule of law.
    OPERATIONAL COORDINATION

    • Integrate the activities of the National Intelligence and Security Agencies by establishing a Central Reporting Intelligence loop under the authority the Minister of National & Homeland Security. Establish a National Command and Control Coordination Center for the efficient management of actionable intelligence, resource allocation and force deployment. Membership should consist of representatives of all security agencies on a need to know basis.
    OIL THEFT

    • I believe in continuity in governance. But each extant policy must be considered and if need be, reviewed on its merit. The oil theft is not petty pilfering. It is organized crime by a syndicate that involves a certain degree of sophisticated intelligence and logistical arrangement. We must admit that oil theft is happening because there is domestic and external collusion. The government and the people have the collective responsibility to protect national assets. On my watch those responsibilities will be accorded high priority.
    REGIONAL SECURITY

    • Foreign and National Security policy initiatives, might in the long term entail rebuilding, repositioning and sustaining ECOMOG, as the arrowhead of a West African Security partnership. This is to counter terrorist threats and international subversion of the sovereignty of the West African region of which Nigeria must reestablish her place as a regional power.

    8. Will you be maintaining the policy of fixed exchange rates coupled with heavy government borrowing? Will you be adhering to the fiscal responsibility laws?

    • We will abide by the Fiscal responsibility laws? Despite the exigency and convenience the two-tier foreign exchange regime offers, it has become an albatross. Hence that arrangement will be critically reviewed, adjusted or even eliminated. We will explore ways of cushioning the forex demands by mainstreaming those components of Diaspora remittances that remain opaque and informal. With proper policy and planning, we can expect to boost and leapfrog the current $20 billion in remittances to $40b to $60b annually. That will translate to about 14% of our total GDP.

    9. The youth have often felt left out in the country especially in the light of central Bank policies on tech companies. Will you reconsider these policies? How do you propose to address the brain drain?

    • We are challenged by high youth unemployment, which stands at 33.3%; 54% for the youth; and 20 million out-of-school-children. We must give this country back to the Nigerian youths. Half of our 200 million people are below the age of 30.

    • Harnessing our national youth strength and demographic dividends intelligently, must start with curbing the high youth unemployment and creating funding access to enable our youths become entrepreneurs and drivers of our Small and Medium Scale enterprises (SMEs).

    • We will work to bring down the unemployment rate to fewer than 20 percent over the next four years, if elected. Part of our objectives on the economy will be focused on supporting job creation given its impact on the economy as well as poverty alleviation.

    • We will review the legislation guiding the fund access modalities to Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), to redress prevailing bottlenecks, create greater transparency, and ensure increased flexibility, and optimum availability of funds required to meet the educational need of the Nigerian students they are meant to serve.

    • We will explore ways and means of tapping in on technology transfer from the Diaspora; we will also explore ways of reversing the enormous brain drain that has been debilitating for our country. We will trigger every known technological and knowledge transfer initiators. Nigeria’s brain drain will be turned into brain gain.

    10. Will the corrupt be allowed to keep their loot? How much focus will be given to probes?

    • We will have zero tolerance for corruption; block leakages and cut the cost of governance. Our total commitment to transparency and accountability in government business is the only credible way to achieve limited to zero corruption.
    • The policies required to fight corruption already exist; it is the political will to implement them that has been lacking. My governance modalities have always been forward looking and will remain so. We will negotiate the return of our stolen national wealth from the custodial countries.

    11. Will you be maintaining the subsidies on electricity and petroleum?

    • There are two elements of subsidy- the corruption component and the real subsidy component. The oil subsidy arrangement as it stands is fraught with criminality. It is unacceptable.

    • For the corruption, we will deal with decisively which will reduce the subsidy cost by over 50%. There will be weighted measures and counter-balance policies and programmes to cushion the impact of the removal of oil subsidy, if and when it is removed. The difference is that now, only some sacred and self-entitled few benefit from the oil subsidy. That narrative will change.

    • We will support local refining for domestic use and priced strictly in Naira. Starting with all government vehicles, we will transition to gas powered cars.

    12. While we support private enterprises will you take measures to ensure that Nigeria does not get dominated by a small group of oligopolists and monopolists?

    • Free enterprise is about market forces and keen competition. These will occur at different levels. If we liberalize access to funding, SMEs will flourish; they have a role to play the giant companies no longer play.

    • We will enforce the legal framework protecting foreign investors and their indigenous partners. This is the only way to tamper monopoly and capital flight.
    13. In respect of gender equality in business and politics, Nigeria is behind many African countries. Will you be taking this as a priority?

    • As governor of Anambra State, my administration achieved close to a 60-40 gender balance in appointive and elective positions. The national target has hovered around 30-35%. We intend to progressively aim for between 35-40%, with aggressive gender mainstreaming action plan and rigid benchmarks.

    14. The central bank has lost the confidence of many inside and outside of Nigeria. What do you propose to do about this?

    • As part of our monetary policy, we will seek to reestablish the independence of the CBN; and commit to a credible and transparent plan to normalize the exchange rate and bring inflation to single digits.

    • We will remove import and forex restrictions and insist on a single forex market. The current system penalizes exporters who bring in forex by forcing them to sell at a rate that they are unable to source for forex when they need to purchase forex. This multiple exchange rate regime encourages capital flight and deters investment, which has further worsened Nigeria’s forex situation.

    15. Do you see yourself deepening or reducing ties with China?

    • Our trade policies will always be predicated on what is in our best national interest. Trade partners who offer us comparative advantage will be considered. However, we will give primacy to our Africa Trade Treaty obligations.

    • Beneficiaries of China’s goodwill and investments in Africa are many. So too are the countries defaulting on their Chinese loans. The trend is deeply alarming. Salutary, as it may seem, we must approach such engagement with our national interest uppermost in our minds.

    16. What policy will your administration have towards Russia and Ukraine?

    • We maintain very cordial relations with Russia and Ukraine. Evidently, this war, in conventional terms, will need to be resolved at the negotiations table. We support the cessation of hostilities agreement under the auspices of the United Nations.

    17. As young people we are concerned with university education. What will you do about the ongoing strike by university teachers?

    • We will pursue the global best practices and standards within available resource. Certainly, in the medium and long term, 14% budgetary funding for education is within the realm of possibility. We will strive to be globally competitive by increasing funding ad ensuring that the (TETFund) resources are re-directed to funding of the Universities and other higher institutions robustly with a view to ending the perennial strikes by University Staff and workers.
    18. What would be your top 3 priorities on getting into office?

    • Production-centered growth for food security and export;
    • Securing and Uniting Nigeria;
    • Effective legal and institutional reforms (rule of law, corruption and government effectiveness);
    • Leapfrogging Nigeria from oil to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR);
    • Expanding physical infrastructure through market-driven reforms (unleashing growth-enabling entrepreneurship and market-creating innovations);
    • Human capital development that empowers competitiveness; and
    • Robust foreign policy that restores Nigeria’s strategic relevance.

    19. How did Nigeria address the COVID challenge and what will you need to do to address future epidemics and pandemics.

    • Nigeria’s initial response to the COVID crisis was lackluster and uninspiring; but her efforts when compared to those of bigger and better developed Western countries were not that poor.

    • What was lacking was experts who were proactive and could prioritize; people who understood how to manage complex emergencies. There were evident critical gaps in response capacity. We will address such gaps by putting in place a national resilience strategy.

    20. Do you think that government needs to be slimmed down?

    • Certainly. We have a bloated federal bureaucracy; hence we are spending more on recurrent expenses. And we are borrowing frivolously. I am not against loans per se; but we must stop borrowing for consumption. All loans must be invested in regenerative projects. We must operate within available resources and strive for a balanced national budget as cost saving measures. Ending the leakages including the subsidy regime and improving our tax regime should do the magic.

    21. In a Presidential system Presidents often find that they are hamstrung by the legislature especially when that body is dominated by members of opposition parties. How will you handle the National Assembly in this regard?

    • Presidential power as we know is the power of persuasion. Members of the National Assembly have vested interest in making their constituencies work. Their respective constituencies invariably form the presidential or national constituency. Policies that present win-winscenarios for national and federal constituencies will definitely attract bi-partisan support.

22.Do you have any plans to address the issue of the humongous salaries and allowances earned by National Assembly?
    • Simply, we have to cut costs. There are no two ways about it.

23.The structure and size of the civil service remains a major constraint for development in the country how do you plan to deal with the issue?

    • Lack of political will and lack of synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms has resulted in a costly inertia in tackling our oversized government. The result is persisting turf fights and competition among several overlapping agencies, and the resultant wastages. Cost-cutting measures must start with rationalization and harmonization. Pruning the size of government will be imperative.

    • The Oronsaye committee report of April 2012, recommended the abolition and merger of 102 government agencies and parastatals, while some were listed to be self-funding. What was called for was extreme but practical rationalization measures.
24.Will you be implementing the Oronsaye report?

    • That is an affirmative. That is the only way to make governance efficient, cost-effective and productive.
