PDP ‘wahala’: Ayu explodes, says Ward Exco Cttee illiterate, ignorant, lacks power to suspend me – Ayu

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu has said that the Executive Committee of the Igyorov Ward lacks the power to suspend him.

Recall that the Executive Committee of PDP Igyorov Ward in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, on Sunday, passed a resolution suspending Ayu from office following a no confidence vote passed on him by the Ward executive.

In a statement on Monday signed by his media aide, Simon Imobo-Tswam, the chairman said those who suspended him were illiterates and ignorant of provisions of the PDP constitution.

According to him, some of his Ward executive members were being tele-guided by those he described as political gamblers “to cause mischief and nothing more”.

Ayu who faulted the Ward resolution that suspended him, said that it was drafted by “illiterates” and some members of the Ward executive were coerced into signing it.

Ayu said only the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) has the powers to suspend him.

According to him, some of the Exco members who refused to sign the resolution were being held hostage in an unnamed location in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

He added that the said resolution suspending him was as fraudulent and the people that signed it.

“The purported suspension is, therefore, an exercise in futility as it derives its strength majorly from gross illiteracy, ignorance, gambling and desperation. It has only mischief, drama and propaganda value”, Ayu declared.

The statement said: “We wish to state categorically and with all emphasis at our disposal thus:

“For starters, Article 57(7) of the PDP Constitution as Amended in 2017 expressly prohibits any organ of the party or executive committee of the party at the Ward or State Level from taking any disciplinary measure against any member of the party’s National Executive Committee.

“The purported suspension is, therefore, an exercise in futility as it derives its strength majorly from gross illiteracy, ignorance, gambling and desperation. It has only mischief, drama and propaganda value.

“But more than this, the so-called suspension letter was written by an illiterate before hand, and only given to the coerced members to sign somewhere in Makurdi.

“This is why the original date is tipexed and 24 March imposed on it. And this is also why it states that the presidential/NASS and Governorship/State Assembly elections held on 25th and 18th March, 2023 respectively.

“From what we know, the document itself is fraudulent as the signatures of the Ward Executives were forged or obtained under duress.

“The (Ward) chairman, his deputy and legal adviser didn’t sign. The 14th person on the list didn’t sign too. She was at NKST Ambighir for the Holy Communion.

“In fact, the same applies for Nos. 5, 8 and 16. At the time they were supposed to be in Makurdi with the other coerced, intimidated and induced members of the Exco, they were actually in their villages, going about their normal businesses”.

“Up till now, about nine members of the Ward Exco are still being held hostage in a location in Makurdi for obvious reasons. And expectedly, their mobile numbers have been switched off. It is instructive.

“The general public is hereby advised to ignore rumours to this heinous effect. Those behind the plot are only investing in expensive illusions”.

The Ward leadership had accused Ayu of anti- party activities that led to the loss of the PDP at the national and state levels in the just concluded general elections.

The Ward leaders also accused the party chairman of failure to pay his annual dues as required by the PDP constitution.

  • Atiku hails UK, says DSS must arrest FFK for inciting comments

Atiku hails UK, says DSS must arrest FFK for inciting comments

…say he is already begging for appointment in Tinubu’s ill-fated govt

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has praised British envoy, Ben Llewellyn-Jones for naming the Director New Media of the Bola Tinubu Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, among those making inciting comments.

In a statement on Sunday, the Special Assistant on Public Communication to Waziri Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, said the Department of State Services ought to invite Fani-Kayode as his rhetoric could set the country on fire.

Shaibu maintained that Fani-Kayode’s claim that he would make Nigeria ungovernable if Tinubu is not inaugurated as President on May 29, 2023, was infuriating and is deserving of the attention of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Atiku’s aide, however, noted that the UK Deputy High Commissioner, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, deserves special commendation for pointing out that Fani-Kayode had been making inciting comments and ought to have been cautioned by Tinubu, his boss.

“We acknowledge as timely the statement of the DSS call on politicians not to overheat the polity. But call on the security agency to arrest Fani-Kayode for not heeding the counsel of the DSS when he threatened make Nigeria ungovernable.

“The DSS rightly invited Fani-Kayode after he made false claims about Atiku planning a coup back in January and asked him to report daily. But for some reason, he has continued unhinged to spew hate. Recently, he even justified the attacks and the profiling of the Igbo in the recently concluded fraudulent governorship election in Lagos State. He has also threatened to make the country ungovernable if Tinubu is not sworn-in.

“I think it’s a good time to remind the DSS that Femi Fani-Kayode has returned to his old ways. Now, he is threatening fire and brimstone over a most contentious election, which Nigerians have refused to endorse or celebrate one full month after the collective disenfranchisement of the electorate.

“Fani-Kayode is threatening that he and some other desperados will make Nigeria ungovernable if Tinubu is not inaugurated on May 29, 2023. It is time to take in Fani-Kayode so he doesn’t inflame any further, the already combustible national angst.”

Shaibu alleged that the Nigeria Police Force had continued to give Fani-Kayode cover and had been used many times to intimidate people as stated by his staff.

He wondered why, despite an order of the Inspector-General of Police that only those holding political offices should move with police escorts, Fani-Kayode had continued to move with heavy security like a governor.

Atiku’s aide said, “Although Nigeria is grossly under-policed, over 40 percent of its police is attached to VIPs and unauthorised persons. With between 350,000 and 370,000 personnel for a population of 200 million, it cannot meet the United Nations recommendation of 340:100,000 police-to-citizen ratio, rendering it grossly ineffective in fighting crime.

“Yet, Fani-Kayode, who has not held any political office since 2007 when he was Aviation Minister, moves with a siren-blaring convoy. He should immediately be stripped of those security aides, uniformed or otherwise. He only uses the security to sustain that delusion of self-importance. He is posturing with state owned security personnel – that is not even enough for the rest of us.

“The likes of former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, ex-Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo do not enjoy the number of security details FFK has around him and honestly, this is what fuels his feeling of self importance.”

He noted that the All Progressives Congress had on March 2, 2015, said in a statement by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that “Fani-Kayode may have unhinged, perhaps as a result of a relapse into an unhealthy lifestyle of substance abuse.”

Shaibu said this was probably the reason behind Fani-Kayode’s volatile behaviour and erratic temper, which was caught on video in 2020 when he gave a dressing down to a journalist who had asked him an innocent question.

Atiku’s aide added, “Fani-Kayode’s reputation for his volatile and erratic behaviour is legendary. This was a man who publicly threatened a journalist for asking an innocent question. The Nigeria Union of Journalists rightly blacklisted the cantankerous former minister.”

Shaibu called on Nigerians not to take Fani-Kayode seriously as his only guiding principle was his stomach.

Atiku’s aide added, “Fani-Kayode’s life story is one of ‘anywhere belle face’. In 2018 he said he would ‘rather die than join a filthy, rat-infested sinking ship like the Almajiri Peoples Congress’. Then when his pocket began to dry up, he embarked on a nebulous tour of PDP states in search of money.

“Immediately Lawan lost, Fani-Kayode began begging associates of Atiku Abubakar to facilitate an appointment into the media team of the PDP. After he was rejected by Atiku’s camp, Fani-Kayode began following Tinubu all over the place in search of a position in the campaign. After Tinubu’s illegitimate victory, Fani-Kayode is now lobbying for a new position in the ill-fated government that will be sent packing by the courts.”

Diya’s great success and accomplishments will long be remembered after him – Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has described the life of the late Lt-General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya as a great success and accomplishments which would long be remembered after him.

The late former Number Two man under the military administration of late General Sani Abacha from 1994 to 1997, died in early hours of Sunday in Lagos at age 79.

Obasanjo in a release by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi remarked that, with the demise of Diya, there is no doubt, the ranks of the nation’s leadership have been depleted “by the loss of a dedicated and resourceful patriot who served the nation in various capacities as an Army Officer, community leader and a legal practitioner”

The former President said that, “it is noteworthy that in the course of his military service which straddled more than three decades, he acquitted himself as a dedicated officer and a real patriot. From the thick of the Nigerian Civil War to the post-war re-organisation of the Army, he distinguished himself as a seasoned soldier.

“The rare diligence, loyalty and resourcefulness with which he carried out his duties and responsibilities, culminated in his appointment as Commander 31, Airborne Brigade; Military Governor of Ogun State from January 1984 to August 1985; General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Nigeria Army in 1985; Commandant, National War College, 1991–1993; Chief of Defence Staff in 1993 and soon after, Chief of General Staff also in 1993; Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council in 1994 and later functioned as Nigeria’s Number Two man under the military administration of General Sani Abacha from 1994 to 1997.”

He recalled that General Diya lived a life of utter devotion in the course of public service saying, “I recall as a Military Governor of Ogun State, he made tremendous mark through dedication to duty, loyalty to his fatherland and an impeccable example of incorruptible leadership. He was courageous and quite a disciplinarian and a no-nonsense officer.”

In retirement, Diya contributed to national development as a private businessman, legal practitioner and a provider of employment for many of our people, Obasanjo hinted, stressing, “he is being mourned, therefore, beyond his immediate family and community. I believe the entire nation also shares the pain and grief for the irreparable loss of a distinguished son of Nigeria indeed.”

Obasanjo added that his entire family joined in wishing the late Diya’s family the comfort and solace sorely needed during this period of bereavement and great trial.

“We, however, have cause to thank God that his life was a great success and many of his accomplishments will for long be remembered after him,” Obasanjo was quoted as having said.

Just In: 34-year-old lawmaker-elect who floored Yobe Speaker arrested

Lawan Musa Majakura, a 34-year-old lawmaker-elect, has explained how the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Ahmed Mirwa Lawan, got him arrested after criticising him for alleged poor representation.

Majakura defeated the speaker in the house of assembly elections with 182 votes to represent Nguru II constituency of Nguru Local Government Area.

The lawmaker-elect who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) explained how he was arrested on two occasions.

He said, “Actually, I was arrested two times. One of them was from a politician in the APC before I left the party, after I criticised him on Facebook. He told the police to arrest and detain me for five days.

“The second one was from the Speaker, whom I defeated. I criticised him on poor representation and I was arrested and detained for 48 hours. It was last year during Ramadan.

“They arrested me for standing with my people. For example, whenever I heard that the state government approved a constituency project for state lawmakers, I used to verify where our own was executed and if it had any impact in our society? These were among the questions I used to ask myself. I even followed them to make sure the project was done. So I used to criticise him whenever I discovered that we had a problem he could solve but he failed to do so. And I would criticise with facts.”

PHOTOS: Jubilant Deltans receive Oborevwori, promises not to fall their hands

Enugu Guber: LP’s Edeoga rejects results, approaches court

Labour Party candidate in the just concluded Guber election in Enugu has rejected the result which announced PDP’s Peter Mbah as winner.

Addressing a press conference in Enugu Thursday, Chijioke Edeoga said, “I want to thank the good people of Enugu State who were involved in this political process to see that the will of our people is determined electorally. The will of our people was made manifest in the few elections that have happened.
First of all, the National Assembly elections where the Labour Party recorded 7 out of 8 wins. So, right now, we have 7 out of 8 House of Representatives seats; the Senate, we have two out of three now; the third one we are in court and we are certain that we are going to get it, because the rigging that gave the PDP victory was manifest.

“Out of 24 members of the House of Assembly, Labour now has 14, with more to be added when a few shenanigans that were introduced by the INEC electoral officers are resolved.

” So, electorally, Enugu State has become a Labour Party State. It is a thing of joy and I thank the good people of Enugu State for giving the Labour Party this resounding victory.

Of course, it flows from what I just said above that the outcome of the governorship election as announced by the INEC after three or four days of delay does not flow along with what I have just enumerated; the victories of the Labour Party in the other elections. The outcome of the guber election, which was handed over to the PDP, with a margin of 3000 votes is not consistent with the electoral victories that were recorded by the Labour Party.

“One can say clearly that this outcome is not in consonance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Enugu State, their democratic intentions. It is a matter that the people are not happy about; it is a matter that has raised disquiet in Enugu State because it is a clear abortion of their democratic intentions and people have become worried and agitated; tempers are rising but we have done everything possible, we have called our leaders to remain calm and resolute.

We are certain that this electoral mess which was orchestrated by a few persons within INEC, both in Enugu and Abuja, will be addressed. We have resolved as a party, as a people, to follow the due process of law to retrieve the mandate. Enugu people have expressed their disquiet.

“We are going to explore all options that are available, we are not going to rule anything out in the legal process. The result as announced by INEC is not in consonance with the votes cast; we have multiple evidences of clear illegalities that are not in line with the electoral laws. We have several cases of over-voting, we have several cases of ballot box snatching, we have several places where people bypassed the BVAS, where people who were said to have voted or votes ascribed to people were higher than what was captured by the BVAS as accredited voters.

The election did not meet the standard expected; it was marred by brigandage, it was almost like warfare; ballot boxes were snatched, changing of figures, kidnapping and imprisonment of electoral officers, in Udenu and Nkanu East, fake security officers with tags and uniforms procured for them with government vehicles. Local government chairmen spearheaded this heist that occurred in Enugu State and it is not acceptable.

We want to urge our people in Enugu State to remain calm and peaceful, prayerful. Keep faith in God knowing that truth, justice shall prevail.

The Returning Officer finally displayed Pontius Pilate’s kind of attitude by saying the result was given to him, that he was declaring it because he was a man under authority. It is a clever way of washing his good hands out of what he was being forced to announce. Pontius Pilate did it. So, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, who is the leader of the Scripture Union Nigeria, every situation produces a hero, to an extent he is a hero, but he could have gone further; he should have gone further. If he were forced to announce something that was not in consonance with his belief, he should have opted out, maybe his courage failed him but at least he tried. This their ‘go to court, go to court’, which has become the mantra of electoral robbers in Nigeria, would have happened two days earlier if not for him, though it eventually happened.

“His firmness, especially against the declaration of the REC, it was obvious on television that he (REC) was a hatchet man, hired to take certain acts. You saw him trying to shout down the Returning Officer.

” How can people in Abuja, Festus Okoye and co, sit down, remove figures, add figures and then come to a conclusion which is not in consonance with the electoral law? How can a situation that is the same with Abia, you arrive at a different situation in Abia and a different situation in Enugu.”

PDP headache: Ayu should be disciplined for anti party activities not me – Ortom

…says party has lost its sense of direction

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu, ought to face the party’s disciplinary panel for anti-party activities and not him.

Apparently reacting to PDP’s notice to face a disciplinary committee, by the Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee referring him to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee over alleged anti-party activities.

He said Ayu should be explaining to party members how he lost his poling unit, ward, local government and state during the last general elections instead of chasing shadows.

Ortom also dismissed his referral to the disciplinary panel over alleged anti-party activities as contempt of a subsisting Court Order.

The PDP NWC also earlier suspended former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, his Ex-Katsina State counterpart, Barr. Ibrahim Shema, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim and two others for the same offence.

Ortom responded, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur.

The statement read in part, “Governor Ortom said it is contemptuous of the leadership of the PDP to disregard the Court Order which barred the party or any organ of the party from issuing any disciplinary measure against him. “

Ikyur said , “the case is pending in court and there is an order of injunction restraining any organ of the party from carrying out any disciplinary action against the governor.

“This Case is adjourned to 18th April 2023 and so it is baffling to see such a statement coming from the national leadership of the party.”

He quoted his principal as saying, “I think the national leadership of our great party is losing its sense of direction.

Instead of the leadership to sit back and think of ways on how to rebuild the party from the ruins of the defeat from the just concluded elections, they are going about chasing imaginary shadows.

“In any case, the first person the party should refer to the disciplinary committee should be the national chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

The national chairman lost his polling unit, lost his ward, local government, and even the state.

“As if that is not enough, there are strong indications that the national chairman was involved in anti-party activities in Benue State by working for the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, just to get at me because of my principled stand against certain aspects of the decisions of the national leadership of the party.”

PDP palaver : Wike slams PDP, says Gov Ortom won’t appear before any so called Cttee

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) for suspending former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose over allegations of anti-party activities and inviting Governor Samuel to appear before what he described as any so called committee.

Briefing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Wike argued that the party’s NWC does not have the power to suspend Mr Fayose, nor refer Mr Ortom to a disciplinary committee.

The governor also criticized the NWC’s decision to summon Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom to appear before a disciplinary committee for a similar allegation of anti-party activities.

According to him, the Benue governor “will not appear before any so-called disciplinary committee.”

Wike said the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, is the one who should be suspended for refusing to obey the constitution of the party on zoning of political positions.

He added that Ayu also failed to deliver his polling unit and political ward during the just-concluded general elections, alleging that Ayu has just begun “the mother of all political wars”.

“Truly I came with members of the KBO family to come and Congratulate us for a job well done. But in all, we give glory to God that we are here strong, hale, hearty and sound celebrating ourselves.

The Deputy Governor while congratulating Hon Oborevwori on his victory at the just concluded Governorship Election, stated that; “Our coming here is to Congratulate and celebrate ourselves for we are truly happy for what God has done for us. Your coming in is an extension of the legacies of Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and as you know, I worked closely with him. I had the opportunity of presiding over the last executive meeting and was trying to remind them where we were coming from in 2015. We came into governance at a time it was truly challenging and you are an integral part of this government, we know where we are coming from, we know where we are and we know where we are going and by God’s grace you have the heart that is large enough to continue with the legacies that hold dear to our hearts that is what we need in governance, a man that is accessible, a man that has a large heart, a man that is able to see beyond, not a man that claims he knows it all”.

“You know where we are coming from as a government. You are part of this government and there are things we have done and it is only reasonable for somebody to continue from where we are going to stop. I know you will do it because you have lived a life for your people. We are truly happy that we are proud that we did what we did and today we are here to celebrate with you. What I love in you is the loyalty to our Governor and for believing in this party.

” Government is continuity, I will consolidate on all the gains of this present administration and there is no way I will abandon any projects, all the projects must be completed before awarding new ones. I want to be a Governor for all Deltans. I want to assure you that this government is your government. I will run a government of inclusiveness. This visit is so dear to me for I am the one that was supposed to pay you a thank you visit which I must do”, he stated.
