JUST IN: Despite curfew,Kano residents troop out to celebrate NNPP Yusuf’s victory

Despite curfew hundreds of residents of Kano have trooped out to jubilate with the winner of the state’s governorship election, snubbing the State Governor’s dawn to dusk curfew.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on Monday imposed a curfew reportedly to avoid a breakdown of law and order following INEC’s declaration of NNPP’s candidate as the winner of the governorship election.

The information and internal affairs commissioner, Muhammad Garba, made the announcement in a statement on Monday.

He said the decision was to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense situation.

The commissioner called on people in the state to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone, or a group bent on causing trouble.

INEC had declared Abba Yusuf of the NNPP as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Kano, beating Deputy Governor Nasir Gawuna at the poll.

The results have generated tension in Kano, prompting the government’s proactive measures to avert chaos.

Any country where ballot papers don’t determine leaders is doomed -Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday condemned the destruction of election materials in Bayelsa by political thugs.

They hijacked and burned ballot papers allocated for the Ogbia constituency as voters waited to participate in the governorship and House of Assembly election.

After voting at his Unit 13, Ward 39 in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Jonathan confirmed the election was peaceful there.

“Any country where ballot paper cannot select the leaders is doomed. We must run a system where ballot paper decides who lead the people,” he said.

“Regarding today’s election, judging from my own unit, the materials arrived earlier than three weeks ago (presidential election).

On election security, it’s peaceful here, but I’m disturbed that within my local government, State Constituency II, materials were burned.

“The police must arrest all those involved. If they feel challenged, they should go to the governor to get the military involved,” the former leader urged.

Guber: Delta PDP slams APC over spurious claim to phantom victory

    …says opposition party is delusional

The Delta State PDP has slammed APC over a spurious claim that it’s leading in the state when results are still being collated.

This was contained in a statement issued by PDP’s Publicly scribe Dr Ifeany Osuoza on Sunday reacting to a report sponsored by the APC in the social media networks claiming a phantom victory.

The PDP in the statement noted that:’”Our attention has been drawn to a puerile and totally misleading statement by Ima Niboro, Director, Communications and Media Strategy, Delta APC Campaign Council, issued on March 19, 2023 and titled: “Breaking: Delta APC takes comfortable lead as collation of governorship, assembly polls progresses”.

‘We are not surprised by this silly, infantile, and outdated publicity stunt and tactics, which is only aimed at justifying what they have already cooked up in Oghara Wards 7 & 8 and Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area, and what they are now cooking in Orogun Wards 1 & 2 and several other areas in Ughelli North Local Government Area and elsewhere in the State.

“These falsified numbers and concocted manipulation of figures are not the original BVAS Results already recorded at the polling units and of course, will definitely not stand the test of time.

“As a responsible political party, we have always believed that you don’t count your chickens before they hatch. We also understand the fact that APC is only trying to give its supporters hope and create an atmosphere of grand illusion with their delusional fantasies of non-existent victory. But they are only deceiving themselves and their supporters, and as the saying goes, a drowning man will even clutch at a serpent to save himself.

“We, therefore, urge our teeming supporters to remain calm and disregard the misinformation and negative propaganda coming out from the camp of the APC. It is their usual way of setting the stage for their expected wailing and gnashing of teeth when the final results are called.

We nor dey shake for PDP.
