2027: No single party can defeat Tinubu – Ex-Presidential candidate

A former Presidential Candidate, Chief Martin Onovo, has said it will be difficult for any single opposition party to defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Onovo, who was the candidate of the defunct National Conscience Party (NCP) in 2015, said this in an interview on Monday in Lagos State.

According to him, the only way to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next Presidential election is a strong alliance  of  opposition parties against the ruling party.

Onovo described the coalition being championed by former PDP Presidential candidate ,Alhaji Atiku Abubabakar and other like-minded leaders to challenge Tinubu in 2027 as a step in the right direction.

“I was the brain behind the largest coalition ever in the fourth Republic which birthed the Coalition of United Political Parties(CUPP) and I can tell you that coalition is the only way, because a united minority is stronger than a divided majority.

“The coalition will win the 2027 election with 99 per cent votes if it is not self- sabotaged. Take it to bank, it will not fail, it will succeed and defeat the ruling party convincingly, if they do it well.

“If the coalition is not self -sabotaged, it will be difficult for APC to return in 2027,” Onovo, also an activist and Head of Policy Positions, Movement for Fundamental Change(MFC), said

On the mid-year assessment of the present administration ,Onovo said not much had been achieved in the area of security and provision of basic needs to the masses.

He urged Tinubu to use the remaining years of his first term to do more to tackle security challenges and improve living standards.

Onovo also advised Tinubu to strengthen his cabinet with technocrats and competent people in order to  fulfil his campaign promises to Nigerians effectively

“The President needs to be clear about his objectives, he should be all out to better the welfare and security of ordinary Nigerians in the city and remotest areas.

“We need competent people in positions not loyalists. Let us get the right people, right strategies and ethical environment, while the President provides leadership and takes responsibility.

“We need the right commanders with strategies in security and economy to end insecurity and suffering. We must not sacrifice performance for loyalty” Onovo said.

Onovo also urged the President to fight corruption more vigorously and reduce inequality index ,which he blamed for insecurity and social tensions.

2027: Ex-IGP Adamu told to contest Nasarawa guber election

Political stakeholders from Lafia Local Government Area have urged the former Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mohammed Adamu, to contest the Nasarawa Governorship position in 2027.

They made their position known at a stakeholders’ engagement on Monday in Lafia.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Mohammed Mainoma, former Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, said the decision to urge Adamu to contest for governorship was borne out of his pedigree in public service.

Mainoma, chairman of the occasion, described Adamu as an administrator par excellence throughout his career in the police force.

He maintained that Nasarawa State needed such a man who had distinguished himself both nationally and internationally to steer its affairs to greatness.

“We want him to come and replicate what he did at Interpol for more than 10 years, and as Nigeria’s IGP, to ensure peace and security in Nasarawa State.

“We want Nasarawa State to leverage his wealth of experience and international connections to ensure rapid growth and development of the state.

“Adamu is bold, accountable, knowledgeable, and resourceful to steer the ship of Nasarawa State to greater heights in 2027.

“We therefore, urge him to heed the clarion call of the people he is so passionate about, to contest the governorship in the next general election,” he said.

Also, Barr. Musa Hussaini, an associate of the former IG, said that since 1999, there had never been a time when key stakeholders in Lafia would unanimously endorse a particular person until now.

“I dare say that we have never experienced an occasion where the entire Lafia LGA will rise in one voice to endorse a particular person.

“There is no voice of dissent, no criticism, everybody that is supposed to be somebody in Lafia is here to attest and to support the endorsement of our governor to become in  2027,” he said.

He charged the people to do their bit by registering to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their wards, to participate actively in the electoral process that would ensure Adamu’s victory in 2027.

Hussaini noted that at the last count, 30 imminently qualified persons had indicated interest in vying for the Nasarawa State governorship position.

He, however, pointed out that Adamu stands tall above them given his leadership qualities and experience.

In his remarks, Alhaji Abubakar Sarki-Dahiru, member representing Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said Adamu deserved to be Nasarawa State governor in 2027 describing him as peace-loving and accommodating.

He urged the former IG to accept the call to contest and charged the people to rally around him to succeed for the betterment of the state.

Responding, Retired IG Adamu said that although he had no intention to contest for the governorship of Nasarawa State, he would not turn down the request of the people since he had led all his life serving the people.

He, however, said that he would still be consulting with stakeholders across the state in the interest of Nasarawa.

2027: Philanthropist AKK joins APC in Oyo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State received a major boost on Tuesday as Dr Adewale Kareem popularly known as AKK, formally joined the party.

Kareem, accompanied by members of his support group, were received into the party at a carnival-like ceremony held at the State Party Secretariat in Ibadan.

The event, described by many as a strategic step ahead of the 2027 governorship election, drew prominent party stalwarts and supporters from across the state.

Among the dignitaries who welcomed the new entrant were a former Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo; former State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke; and the State Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite.

The APC State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, who was on a national assignment, conveyed his goodwill message through the State Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Olanite, commending Kareem for taking the bold step to join the party.

Abas encouraged other like-minded technocrats and professionals to emulate Kareem’s example, noting that the APC remained the most credible platform for promoting good governance and people-oriented development in Oyo State.

Similary, Adeyemo described Kareem’s entry into the APC as a welcome development, saying the party needed vibrant and visionary individuals ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former chairman, Oke expressed delight at the arrival of  Kareem into the party, noting that it was a bold and strategic step.

Some leaders at the event, said that Kareem’s reputation as a philanthropist and technocrat would significantly enhance the party’s credibility among the electorate.

Alhaji Bello Oladeji, Alhaji Mufutau Gbayawu and Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, lauded the entry of Kareem into the APC, describing it as a morale booster for the party’s rank and file.

The leaders urged party faithful to remain united and focused, saying the addition of new forces like Kareem would give the APC a formidable edge in future elections.

In his remarks, Kareem expressed gratitude to the APC leadership and members for the warm reception.

He said that his decision to join the party was borne out of a genuine desire to serve the people of Oyo State.

According to Kareem, the APC’s progressive agenda aligns with his vision for inclusive development, educational empowerment and sustainable growth.

2027: APC denies NASS members automatic tickets

The All Progressives Congress (APC)  said that the news circulating that National Assembly members would be granted automatic tickets in the 2027 election is fake.

Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

“The attention of the APC has been drawn to a purported breaking news report tagged “APC Grants Automatic Tickets to All National Assembly Members” in viral circulation.

“The report is fake news and should be disregarded in its entirety as it did not emanate from our great party.

“We urge all Party members and the general public to disregard the report as fake and of mischievous origin,” the APC spokesman said.

  • 2027: Tinubu’s endorsement by APC govs in order – TDF

2027: Tinubu’s endorsement by APC govs in order – TDF

The Democratic Front (TDF) has dismissed the statement credited to the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) criticising the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Malam Danjuma Muhammad, the Chairman of TDF, in a statement on Monday, stated that CUPP was in no position to dabble into the internal affairs of the ruling party.

“We condemn, in the strongest terms, the unwarranted criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement by Governors elected on the platform of the ruling  APC by the defunct Coalition of United Political Party (CUPP).

“Like an attention-seeking meddlesome interloper, the group described the endorsement of President Tinubu by his  party members as their flag bearer in the 2027 presidential election as a desperate bid for power.

“While we are not opposed to CUPP’s right to self-expression as provided by the Nigerian constitution, we expect the leadership of the political interest group, to show respect for APC’s right to conduct its internal affairs within the limit of its constitution,”  said TDF.

The group said it recalled that in the run-up to the presidential elections in 2019, the then CUPP and its leadership threw its support behind the candidature of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“And of course, it backed Labour Party’s Peter Obi in 2023, especially as its National Secretary, Peter Amen, even contested for a seat in the House of Representatives in Kogi State on LP’s platform.

“So, it is clear that the current  CUPP leadership has always been opposing the ruling party.

“Furthermore, the CUPP should be reminded that APC has a precedence of picking an incumbent president as its presidential flag bearer through the consensus of members of the Party,” the group stated.

It said CUPP’s stance on APC’s internal affairs of the APC amounted to overstepping its boundaries as well as a flagrant disregard for the constitutional rights of others.

“We, therefore, urge Nigerians to see the CUPP for what it is: a partisan opposition to the ruling APC. It is simply a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) concocted with a narrow mindset to achieve personal political aggrandisement,” said TDF.

It added that there was nothing wrong with President Tinubu’s endorsement at the recent APC summit because it was the party’s internal affairs.

  • 2027: I will lead APC campaign in Rivers for Tinubu – Wike

2027: I will lead APC campaign in Rivers for Tinubu – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has disclosed he will be the one to lead the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Rivers State for the second term election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mr Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, made this disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Monday when he boasted that he is an asset to make sure that Tinubu wins his second term election.

When asked about his future in the PDP, he queried, “I have told you this thing. Is it because of Asiwaju presidency? Is it what you are talking about? Are you not aware that I will lead the campaign in Rivers State?”

“You want me to say no. Are you not aware? It is not hidden. Because I have said the South must produce the president. I came out and said I will support Asiwaju. I did not say I will leave PDP”.

Wike went further to say: “The way we won the other election, that is how we will win. I am not a liability. I am an asset. Whether you agree or you do not, I am an asset. You may not like me, but that does not matter. I am an asset. I am an asset to making sure that Tinubu wins his second tenure”.

Wike lashes out at Bode George, queries him who PDP has made in Lagos

Speaking further during the media chat, Wike lashed out at a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, who had expressed sadness over the sealing of the party’s national secretariat by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Last on Monday, the FCTA, led by Minister Nyesom Wike, sealed off the PDP national secretariat in Abuja over an alleged failure to pay ground rent.

The PDP headquarters was shut as part of the enforcement efforts of the FCTA, which recently cancelled 4,794 land titles in Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, and Garki over “years of unpaid ground rents”.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, George lamented that Wike, who authorized the enforcement action, is a member of the PDP who should have paid the debt to show his loyalty to the party.

The PDP BoT member said Wike had occupied several political positions on the platform of the PDP since 1999.

Reacting, Wike said: “I read what he said. If an old man has no job, he should sit down in his house and read his newspapers.

“Bode George said PDP made me. PDP gave me national name. I agree. Party cannot make you. You are the one to make the party popular to win elections.

“A party cannot say we are popular. It is individuals who make the party popular. Look at it this way. I agree the PDP made me. Ask Bode George. Who did the PDP made in Lagos.

“If it is the party that makes, who has the party made in Lagos since 1999? Not one assembly. Not one House of Reps. Not Senate. Not Anything.

“And then you are talking to me who has campaigned and worked for the party to be the major party in the State and at the national level.  Meanwhile, in your own State that party has never won anything”.

The former Rivers State Governor stressed that past FCT Ministers lacked the courage to compel political bigwigs who own structures in the nation’s capital to pay their annual ground rent. He insisted that the PDP must pay the ground rent for its secretariat in Abuja.

“Look at what we are doing differently. People have said that FCT was not working (but) now it is working which means I’m doing things that they (past FCT ministers) refused to do.

“I found out that most of them didn’t have the courage to annoy people, to step on toes but I take joy when I step on the toes of big men; those who say nothing will happen but I say something will happen. It makes me happy.

“All they want me to do is to make decisions against poor people saying nothing will happen to them but I say something will happen. That is why we making results. If you don’t do the right thing, too bad. I don’t care.”

2027: Seyi Makinde told not to contest against Tinubu

Sir Jude Idimogu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Lagos State and former lawmaker, has urged Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State not to heed calls to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Idimogu, a Deputy Leader, Ndigbo in Lagos State APC, who gave this advice in an interview on Sunday, said such an adventure will end up in futility, a waste of time and resources.

“The truth is that Gov. Seyi Makinde cannot wrestle power from President Bola Tinubu. Tinubu will win again and nothing will stop him by His Grace.

“We must reiterate that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria again in landslide,” Idimogu told NAN.

According to him, Tinubu as of today in Nigeria is a game changer, a strategic planner and a master.

The former lawmaker, however noted that Makinde remained a friend to the President, doubting if he would listen to those calling on him to run against Tinubu.

He also noted that Makinde had the right under the law to aspire for any elective position in the country.

On the coalition of opposition leaders against Tinubu in 2027, Idimogu reiterated that no alliance would be able to unseat Tinubu.

The lawmaker said: “When it comes to Tinubu, the more you look the less you see.

“Except God, nothing can unseat him. As long as Tinubu is alive, nothing will stop him from returning as the President of Nigeria in 2027.

“No gang up in the North or South. It cannot work. Allow him to finish his tenure of eight years. The opposition should not waste their time.”

Idimogu urged all Nigerians to give the President necessary support as he strives to return hope to the nation.

According to him, with required support, the President will put the country on pedestal of sustainable development and growth.

He made this known at a ceremony organised to celebrate two years anniversary of his government held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.

The governor said that before the Tinubu-led administration, Kebbi enjoyed little or no federal government projects.

“With the emergence of Tinubu administration, Kebbi enjoys series of developmental projects.”

He listed some of the road projects to include; Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Dabai-Mahuta-Koko road, Malando-Warah-Ngaski road, Kamba-Feka road and Zema-Zuru road among others.

“Therefore, we, the people of Kebbi have no reason not to support the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027,” he noted.

Idris thanked the organisers for bringing Kebbi prominent personalities together including all the ex-state governors.

“You hardly can see a state in this country, where four former and serving governors come under one roof. This glaringly shows that Kebbi is an APC state,” he said.

The governor promised that the votes Mr President got in the 2023 general elections would be tripled come 2027.

He appreciated the people of Kebbi for their support and cooperation which had paved the way for him to record a huge success, assuring that they have done everything to him, “your support will never go in vein.”

  • Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello opens up on 2027 presidential ambition

Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello opens up on 2027 presidential ambition

Former governor of Kogi, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Friday said he won’t contest against President Bola Tinubu in 2027 because he has no presidential ambition.

In a statement signed by Michael Ohiare, his Media Director, Bello expressed surprise and shock over a video post of his 2022 rally,  claiming he had started campaigning against President Tinubu for 2027.

The statement read: “While we state categorically, that our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition, we want to also stress his unflinching commitment to the re-election of President Tinubu come 2027.

“The indices cannot lie. The President and his team have done exceedingly well for the country, despite global challenges. On merit, he deserves the support of well meaning Nigerians.

“Nigerians should disregard the mischievous post insinuating a fresh presidential support rally as what it is – a senseless post by a confused, witless mind

“The fabricators forgot that the 2022 dates are boldly written on the banners on display. Yet, they expect reasonable people not to see this as the handiwork of detractors. ” he said.

Ohiare described the post as a “senseless post” by mischief makers, who have no other job than to fabricate falsehood and disseminate same to mislead unsuspecting Nigerians.

According to him, the fabricators have tried so hard in their “bring-him-down-at-all-costs” mission against Bello but have always failed woefully.

The director stated that it was not the first time detractors and their co-travellers would fly absolute falsehood with the aim of setting the former governor against President Tinubu.

“But this latest slant of reposting a 2022 rally afresh and insinuating that it is just happening, connotes nothing but sheer mischief.

“Nigerians should be wary of witless persons who concoct stories without thinking, just to satisfy the interests of their paymasters, ” he said

He stressed that the post was out of desperate bid to create crisis where there is none.
