Sheriff Oborevwori as their sole candidates for the presidential and gubernatorial elections, respectively in a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached at a well-attended political gathering of
Ughievwen APC Leaders, Elders and Stakeholders Forum held at Country home of former member House of Representatives, Dr Chris Oghenechovwen at Iwhrekan in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In moving the motion, Barr Bernard Jamaho who said there was no vacancy in Aso Rock and Government House, Asaba said we nominate and adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as sole Presidential candidate of the APC for 2027 and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as sole Governorship candidate in Delta come 2027 was seconded by Chief Mrs Victoria Djowah.

The motion was however amended by Comrade Reuben Izeze before it was unanimously adopted and passed at the meeting.

The decision was hailed as a strategic move to consolidate unity and rally the people of Ughievwen behind candidates who have shown genuine commitment to delivering dividends of democracy.

The event also marked the formal endorsement of former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Chris Oghenechovwen, as the political leader of Ughievwen.

The endorsement of Oghenechovwen was sequel to a motion by Olorogun Abraham Erhuen and seconded by former State Publicity Secretary of Sunny Apah.

Widely respected for his leadership pedigree and contributions to the socio-political growth of the region, Dr. Oghenechovwen’s emergence was greeted with excitement and wide approval.

Ughievwen APC Elders including Chief Johnson Boro, Professor G.G. Darah, Chief Patrick Fovie and Chief Andrew Desi in their remarks supported the motion for the enthronement of Dr Chris Oghenechovwen as leader of the party in the area and expressed commitment to the re-election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu come 2027.

Also speaking, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, underscored the resolve of Ughievwen and the entire Ughelli South to back Tinubu and Oborevwori.

He described the political alignment as a deliberate and strategic show of unity aimed at ensuring massive grassroots support. According to him, the impressive strides of both leaders Tinubu at the national level and Oborevwori at the state have earned them widespread acceptance beyond party lines.

He noted that the people of Ughelli South were united by a common goal: development, peace, and purposeful leadership. “This is not just about politics; it’s about the future of our people. The achievements of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori have inspired confidence across communities, and our support for their re-election in 2027 is both total and unwavering,” he stated.

In an interview with journalists, Dr. Oghenechovwen expressed deep appreciation for the confidence reposed in him. “That, very clearly, is a monumental decision, and it’s a responsibility that I hold very dear,” he said.

Looking ahead, he stated, “2027 is going to be easy for us because we will have a team that is united. We will rely on the forces from what we call the ancient and modern APC. We know the terrain; we have been here before and we know how it works. We are sure of 100% victory in all our elections.”

Dr. Oghenechovwen further emphasized the importance of unity, noting that recent meetings across various political structures in the area were geared toward harmonizing efforts and building a strong, cohesive political force.

“We have had a series of meetings. Most of the local boards have held theirs, and we’ve also had a central meeting at the local government level. Now we’re holding these sectional meetings. It’s all part of strengthening the whole system,” he explained.

He called on the people of Ughievwen to embrace unity and put the past behind them. “For a long time, we have been divided, working at cross-purposes. But the way it is now, we have come together. We encourage everyone to have an open mind and work decisively together to ensure success in all our elections for the presidency, the governorship, and every other position the party is contesting in 2027,” he said.

It will be ‘tragic’ if Tinubu is not re-elected in 2027 – Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has stated that it will be a tragic situation if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not re-elected in 2027, stressing that the President needs a second term to complete his economic reforms.

Speaking on Monday as a guest on Politics Today, Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, warned that it would be “tragic” for another administration to halt the fiscal and economic policies currently being implemented by the Tinubu-led government.

“The most profound thing I will say here today is that every single APC member in this country today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, irrespective of whether it affects your personal interest or not,” he said.

“Because he does need a second term to fully finish up all these reforms.”

Keyamo further explained, “It will be tragic for any government to come in 2027 and stop these reforms. This is what has happened in the past where you have all kinds of inchoate policies being implemented.

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has declared that the party would not join or merge with any othe political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Chairman of the forum, Gov. Muhammed Bala of Bauchi State, stated this on Monday, at the end of its meeting, held in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

Reading the group’s communique after the meeting, Bala said that the PDP governors resolved that the party would not join any coalition or merger.

He, however, said that PDP as a major opposition party would welcome any party, association or group that was willing to join it, with a view to wrestle power and enthrone good leadership in 2027.

Bala, who was flanked by other PDP governors when reading the communique, equally stated that the forum reaffirmed its position taken in Asaba on the issue of the national secretary of the party.

He said  “that on the wake of the Supreme Court judgment the forum resolved to recommend the Publicity Secretary of the party to act as the national secretary.

“Pending the nomination and ratification of substantive national secretary from the South East zone by NEC at its next meeting.”

The chairman further stated that the forum reasserted its collective determination to approach the Supreme Court to give a clear verdict on the interpretation of the provision of the law on the declaration of State of Emergency in any state of the federation.

“The forum, therefore, reiterate its solidarity with his Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, on the ordeal in which he and his people are being plunged into by the declaration of State of Emergency.

“And we reiterate our commitment to stand with him to the end,” he stated.

The forum also raised concern over alarming worsening security situation in some parts of the country, especially in Borno, Plateau, Katsina and Edo states.

Bala disclosed that the forum called for review and reordering of priorities and strategies security agencies that would guaranty improved security across the country.

The forum commiserated with the people of Plateau over the loss of lives in the recent attack in the state.

  • ‘No vacancy in Aso Rock come 2027’ – Ex-lawmaker declares

‘No vacancy in Aso Rock come 2027’ – Ex-lawmaker declares

A two-term former  Lagos State House of Assembly member,  Sir Jude Idimogu, says there will be “no vacancy” in Aso Rock come 2027.

Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II between 2015 and 2023, made the declaration in an interview with NAN on Friday in Lagos.

He was reacting to the recent announcement by an opposition group, which vowed to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Idimogu, who is also the deputy leader of Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ndigbo, Lagos State, and APC member, said no alliance between opposition leaders could pose a significant threat to Tinubu’s re-election.

The former lawmaker described the coalition of opposition politicians against the second term aspiration of the president as nothing but an exercise in futility.

He noted that the ruling party had a strong leadership and grassroots support that would propel the party to victory in 2027.

Idimogu maintained that the president deserved a second term because he was building a legacy of sustainable development.

“In Nigeria, power is being rotated between the North and the South, so I believe it is the turn of the South to complete their eight years in office.

“So there is no vacancy in Aso Rock come 2027 and I am appealing to all the Northerners in the party to support the president to complete his eight years.

“Regarding the coalition, I can tell you, there is really no political gang-up that can unseat Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

Idimogu said that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda was yielding positive results, hence he did not see the prospect of any opposition candidate reeling out anything better than his.

“I don’t know which of the candidates will come out today and reel out a policy that is better than what the administration of Tinubu is doing.

“This is because Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda is yielding positive results and we can see improved power supply.

“Our naira against the dollar is now gradually appreciating with the restoration of the naira-for-crude deal, and the export drive,” he said.

The ex-lawmaker also noted that the prices of food items were gradually reducing in the market with the implementation of favourable policies to increase farmers’ outputs.

“So I will give it to him (Tinubu). In two years’ time, I will be one of those that will quickly champion his re-election in 2027,” he said.

Idimogu advised the people behind the coalition to instead join hands with the president in the interest of the country.

  • PDP must be repositioned ahead of 2027 – Adamu Waziri

PDP must be repositioned ahead of 2027 – Adamu Waziri

A former Minister of Police Affairs and PDP chieftain, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, has stressed the need for an urgent repositioning of the party.

Waziri stated this on Friday in Potiskum, Yobe shortly after addressing members of the party drawn from across the state.

According to him, this has become necessary in order for the party to reclaim its place as Nigeria’s foremost opposition platform, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Waziri said that PDP was facing serious leadership challenges and internal crises which were affecting its capacity to perform its constitutional role as an opposition party.

“Peoples Democratic Party is going through a lot of trials and tribulations.

“We have leadership problems and the party needs to be repositioned to play its role as the leading opposition, especially to address the problems afflicting Nigeria, in 2027,” he said.

The former minister stated that democracy could not thrive without a vibrant opposition, even as he admitted that PDP had “failed woefully” in providing the platform needed to bring succour to citizens.

He, however, used the opportunity to dispel rumours doing the rounds that he had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I have come to my people to dispel the rumour that I have defected to APC. That is not true,” he said.

Waziri explained that while he was actively involved in the on-going coalition and merger talks among political actors, his participation was not in any official capacity.

“I am very much involved in the coalition and merger talks involving members of PDP, APC, Labour Party and other political groups who are trying to build a strong political platform that can deliver credible candidates in 2027.

“But I am not in the talks representing PDP. I am there as a Nigerian, a democrat with an inalienable right to associate and express my views,” he clarified.

The PDP chieftain stressed that he owed it as a duty to his supporters in Yobe and beyond to keep them informed about his national political engagements.

“I am confident of the support I have, both within and outside the PDP in Yobe. I came here to brief them so that when decisions are eventually taken, they will not say I did not carry them along,” he said.

On the issue of national leadership within the party, Waziri reaffirmed that the party was being guided by its constitution.

“The PDP constitution is clear; if anything happens to the national chairman, the deputy national chairman takes over in an acting capacity until the zone that produced the original chairman nominates a replacement,” he said.

The former minister, who is a prominent voice in Yobe politics, urged party members to remain united and committed to rescuing the country through democratic means.

    Okpebholo begins campaign for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo announced on Wednesday in Benin that he has begun mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.

The governor made this known while receiving Mr. Kaycee Osamwonyi, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Osamwonyi defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osamwonyi represents the Uhunmwonde constituency and serves on the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.

He was first received by APC State Chairman, Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, before being presented to the governor.

Welcoming the lawmaker, Okpebholo commended him and his fellow defectors for strengthening the APC.

He assured them of a supportive environment for collaboration and development in Edo.

“We congratulate you on your return home. Your defection, along with four others, has made our party stronger and more united,” Okpebholo said.

“A lot of people from other political parties are ready to join us. Very soon, it will be a carnival of defections.

“I seek your support to drive development. Together, we will transform Edo and improve the lives of our people.

“Uhunmwonde Local Government is very dear to me. Together, we can unlock its potential and attract meaningful growth and development,” he added.

Speaking on the upcoming election, the governor declared: “The 2027 presidential election is near.

“Here in Edo, we are ready. We have already kick-started our campaign for President Tinubu’s reelection.”

He urged the youth to get involved, saying, “We must mobilise young people.

“You are part of that demographic, and I assure you that you’ll find fulfillment in the APC.”

Presenting Osamwonyi, APC Chairman Tenebe noted that “the party now holds a majority in the Edo Assembly.

“Osamwonyi joined us because of your administration’s impressive achievements in such a short time,” Tenebe said.

In his remarks, Osamwonyi cited internal divisions within the PDP as the reason for his defection.

“The PDP’s internal crisis, from the national level down to the wards, pushed me to return to the APC.

“For me, it’s a homecoming. I was once a member of this great party,” he said.

He praised the state government’s development initiatives, especially those targeting his constituency.

“Several projects in the state budget for Uhunmwonde are commendable. I had to align with the APC to ensure progress for my people,” he added.

  • 2027: Ex-Delta gov, Okowa drums support for Oborevwori

2027: Ex-Delta gov, Okowa drums support for Oborevwori

Former Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Saturday called on the people of the state to support incumbent Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori in his bid to return for a second term in office in 2027.

Okowa made the call while addressing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful in Ika North East Wards 3 and 4, at  Boji-Boji Owa.

He said the call had become necessary because Gov. Oborevwori has demonstrated love for all people of the state and has initiated policies that were adding value to the lives of the average person in Delta.

The ex-governor appreciated the massive turnout of party faithful in the two wards, but frowned at the few PDP members who left the party despite their personal achievements and successes, which were largely traceable to the empowerment they received while in the PDP.

Okowa said that he was aware of the antics of those looking to deceive others but expressed confidence that party members knew those who truly meant well for them and their communities.

He lauded the decision of the party leaders in the local government to initiate a monthly contributory scheme aimed at empowering the people in the area.

He said, “It’s a thing of joy seeing party leaders coming together to extend ₦100,000 grants to each of the 100 persons drawn from the two wards.

“One hundred thousand naira might not be too much considering the state of the economy, but I do not have any iota of doubt that it will have an impact on the very micro businesses of these our people, even as it will also aid and encourage our farmers.

“The beauty of this process is that the party leaders have assured that two wards will benefit from this gesture every month going forward.”

Earlier, the PDP Chairman, Ika North East, Mr Chuks Agbormah, thanked the former governor and other party leaders for gracing the event.

He assured the party leaders that efforts were ongoing to continue mobilizing support for Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Agbormah later received members of the APC who decamped to the PDP and assured them that the umbrella was large enough to accommodate them.

Other dignitaries who attended the rally include,  Mr Victor Nwokolo, Member Representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Marilyn Okowa Daramola, Representing Ika North East State Constituency, State House of Assembly,

Also, Dr Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta State Government, Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Monday Hunkamma Odigwe, Chairman Ika North East, Dr Hillary Ibegbulem, Mr Ifeanyi Egboigbe, Dr Frank Nwugo, Hon Tony Elekeokwuri.

  • Former French PM Édouard Philippe confirms 2027 presidential bid

Former French PM Édouard Philippe confirms 2027 presidential bid

Former French prime minister Édouard Philippe, considered one of the country’s most popular politicians, has announced that he plans to run in the 2027 presidential elections.

Philippe, who served as current President Emmanuel Macron’s first prime minister from 2017-2020, made the widely expected announcement on Wednesday, local media reported.

In a survey by the polling institute Ipsos in June, 36 per cent of respondents said they would be very or quite satisfied if Philippe, currently serving as mayor of the port city Le Havre in the Normandy region, were to become president.

This gave Philippe the highest approval rating among the politicians surveyed, ahead of Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen from the far-right National Rally (RN) who were next on the list.

The 53-year-old founded his centre-right Horizons party nearly three years ago.

It is currently part of Macron’s centrist Ensemble (Together) coalition. Philippe has long been rumoured to have presidential ambitions.

It is unclear what chance Philippe will have in the election.

The centrist coalition and the conservative Republicans have not yet fixed their plans for the vote.

As for the RN, it is not yet certain whether Le Pen will run again or send young party leader Bardella into the race.

Historically, approval ratings in France can change quite quickly, and it is still over two and a half years until the elections are scheduled.

In the last two presidential elections in 2017 and 2022, Le Pen made it to the run-off each time.

Macron’s victory was bolstered by a significant number of votes from other camps determined to prevent a Le Pen win at all costs.

  • 2027: Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso told to form merger

2027: Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso told to form merger

Salihu Lukman, former national vice chairman (North-west) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged opposition leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to step up and lead the reform of Nigeria’s democracy. He called for the formation of a functional political party capable of rescuing the nation.

Lukman also suggested that sidelined APC leaders, including former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and ex-Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi, Ibikunle Amosun, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rauf Aregbesola, should collaborate with opposition leaders to restore Nigeria’s path to democratic development.

In a statement titled “#EndBadGovernance Campaign: What Next?” issued in Abuja on Sunday, Lukman criticized President Bola Tinubu’s government for failing to address the country’s pressing issues, which were exacerbated by the removal of petroleum subsidies and the floating of the Naira’s exchange rate.

He noted that these policies have led to inflation and increased hardship for Nigerians, who face daily challenges of hunger and preventable diseases.

Lukman emphasized the importance of integrating the #EndBadGovernance message into the structure of any party aiming to rescue Nigeria. He warned that failing to do so would hinder efforts to challenge and defeat the current APC government in 2027.

He called on opposition leaders to utilize the rising anger in the country to create a functional political party distinct from the APC, PDP, LP, and NNPP. He urged the mobilization of Nigerian youth to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register new parties meeting statutory requirements, suggesting that there appears to be an undeclared moratorium on new party registrations.

Lukman criticized the Tinubu administration for excessive spending amid widespread poverty and hunger, contributing to the country’s volatile situation. He called on committed democrats to mobilize Nigerians towards reforming democratic structures and warned that ignoring the grievances of Nigerian youth could lead to violence and chaos.

He concluded by urging opposition leaders to build the necessary democratic structures to connect with all Nigerians and earn their trust.
