2027: I’ll reclaim Kano for APC – Doguwa

Rep. Ado Doguwa (APC-Kano state) has pledged to reclaim Kano state for the All Progressive Congress (APC) and deliver in 2028.

This will be possible if he is appointed Director-General of the 2027 APC Campaign Project in the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Doguwa promised the leadership of the party to deliver the presidential and governorship seats.

“As a 7th term lawmaker, I am seizing the opportunity to urge the leadership of the APC to graciously allow me to coordinate and serve as a Director-General of Kano state APC Campaign  Project in 2027.

“I vow to deliver victorious results in the gubernatorial and presidential elections before noon on the day of election,” he said.

Doguwa, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), also pledged selfless service to his constituents, APC and the NASS.

He said he had remained a strategic member of the APC, of the parliament and a humble servant of his constituents.

According to him, he stands tall in the Kano state political space as the only member elected under the platform of the APC in the whole of Kano South Senatorial District.

Doguwa said that he is the only major threat to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) government in Kano state and to the National Leader of the party, Sen. Rabiu kwankwaso.

He said that the NNPP government in Kano state had performed below expectation as it had done little to develop the economic and social wellbeing of the people of Kano state.

Doguwa refuted his colleague, Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin (NNPC-Kano state), allegation that described him as “an obstacle to peace in Kano state and a liability to the APC”.

Doguwa, who is also the Chairman, Northern Regional Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives, said he will always prefer peace in the state over his political ambition.

“My peaceful nature and attitude can best be confirmed by my religious and mutual relationship with my constituents, and the traditional rulers.

“Above all my timely support to the different security agencies like the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the local vigilante groups.

“I support in many ways, such as distribution of operational vehicles, motorcycles, and other supportive materials and resources.

“My simple response to the claim that I am a liability to the APC, is that I am an asset, a source of pride, and a goldmine to the APC both in the state and in the country.

“In my parliamentary or legislative track records, I have never been found to be a traitor, mischievous or disloyal to any of my principals.

“I have always served and discharged my legislative duties with due diligence and with all sense of humility, honesty, dedication and utmost respect to my colleagues and my principals,” he said.

Doguwa added that he has never been suspended or found wanting for over 33 years as a member of the House of Representatives.

He dared Jibrin to present his track records to put the matter to rest once and for all following ongoing disagreements between both Kano state lawmakers.

Doguwa is also the Chairman Special Committee on Crude Oil Theft and Pipelines Vandalisation in Nigeria.

He served as the Majority Leader of the 9th House of Reps and the Chief Whip of the 8th House.

Other positions held in the past assemblies include, Chairman of Special Committee on Petroleum Industry Bill, former Chairman Special Committee on New Naira Re-design, and Chairman Committee on Millennium Development Goals.

  • FG moves to convert 1m petrol vehicles to CNG by 2027

FG moves to convert 1m petrol vehicles to CNG by 2027

The Federal Government says it hopes to achieve conversion of one million  petroleum vehicles in the country to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by 2027.

Mr Michael Oluwagbemi, the Programme Manager of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) Initiative, made this known at the ”Park to Park” CNG Mobilisation Programme and signing of MoU with some conversion centres and distribution of free CNG conversion kits in Abuja.

The programmes was organised by the Pi-CNG.

” We  are here to commemorate the handing over the pysical conversion materials, especially to our conversion centre partners.

“President Bola Tinubu has given us the the mandate, to convert one million commercial vehicles in the next two years.

“Today is just the beginning for this region that include the Federal Capital Territory,  Nasarawa State, Niger and Kogi.

“We are here to handover this conversion kits to different stakeholders like National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and many others.

“We had seven conversion centers last year, but now, we have over 120 across the country. We are  also partnering with the private sector to ensure availability of CNG refueling stations across the country, Oluwagbemi said.

He further explained that the stakeholders would participate in the conversion programme by nominating vehicles of their members to be converted at the centres.

The Pi-CNG Programme Manager said that Nigeria is sitting on a pillow of gas, which is cheaper and more reliable to power transportation.

“It will lead to  between 40 and 70 per cent savings for road transport users or operators. The operators will pass on the savings they are realising to the consumers.

“This will lead to reduction in the price of transportation of goods, people and services.

“It also worthy to note that we are focusing on mass transit which form about 90 per cent of the transport operators.

“But I can assure you that the private sector and some conversion partners are developing financing programmes to enable private sector, especially
employee who earn regular salary to be able to get this opportunity as well.

“It will go round, but, we are focusing on mass transit. And in the agreement, we have iron clause concerning its utilisation and protection of the materials. We are properly tracking them,” Oluwagbemi said.

He also stressed that there are proper certification to ensure that vehicles are properly converted and reliable, adding that after conversion, the vehicle will be running on petrol and gas alternatively.

“However,  our intent is for them to run on gas as the number of gas stations becomes more available in this region”.

Also speaking Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, the Global Vice-President of International Transport Federation, urged members of transport unions and others to use the opportunity and be CNG complaint.

“They should also be patient and support the current administration. By the time the CNG start working, everything will come down including price of transportation and food stuff”.

Similarly, the NARTO National President, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal commended Tinubu, adding that, the Pi-CNG was a good development.

“This is one of the initiatives of President Tinubu and the initiative is trying to carry all stakeholders along. Please, Nigerians should be patient with Tinubu”.

NAN reports that on May 13, in line with his commitment to ensure energy security, drive utility, and cut high fuel costs, president Tinubu directed the mandatory procurement of compressed-natural-gas-powered vehicles by all government ministries, departments, and agencies. The president’s directive is also in furtherance of Nigeria’s effort to transition to cleaner energy as CNG-enabled vehicles have been adjudged to produce lower emissions, even as they present a more affordable alternative for Nigerian energy consumers.

Addressing members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House, Tinubu affirmed that there is no turning back in the energy reforms initiated by his administration.

“This nation will not progress forward if we continue to dance on the same spot. We have the will to drive the implementation of CNG adoption across the country, and we must set the example as public officials in leading the way to that prosperous future that we are working to achieve for our people.

”It starts with us, and in seeing that we are serious, Nigerians will follow our lead,” he said.

The president further directed the rejection of all memos brought by members of FEC seeking the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles, tasking the affected members of the council to go back and diligently seek value-driven procurements of CNG-compliant vehicles.

Wike threatens to unseat lawmaker in 2027

Mr Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has threatened to unseat an unidentified lawmaker for criticising his successes as the FCT Minister.

Wike made the threat during the inauguration of the construction of Mabushi Bus Terminal, Phase I, in Abuja on Monday.

He said that he overheard somebody, a lawmaker in the National Assembly in Arise TV in the morning, castigating the successes being recorded in FCT.

The minister said that the lawmaker particularly criticised the rot in schools and the absence of quality hospitals in the territory.

“You, as a legislator, what have you done?  How many bills have you sponsored for us to improve our education and health sector?

“I challenge that legislator. If you are very popular, in 2027 come and run under Abuja, we will fail you.

“Do you think that what happened last time will happen again? It will not happen again.

“Luckily for me, I am the FCT Minister now. So that is my territory and I’m not afraid,” he said.

Wike further said: “With all due respect, what you don’t know, you don’t know, what you know you know.

”The good thing for you is to tell people you don’t know when you don’t know, then people will educate you.

“The Honourable Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud and my humble self, have not been in office for more than 11months and the person is angry that people are praising us.

“If you don’t want or you are angry about that, go and hang yourself in a transformer.

“If we have done well; we have done well. If we haven’t done well; we haven’t done well. I’m proud to say that in the short time that President Tinubu has appointed us, we have done well.”

The minister warned that if the unidentified lawmaker was angry with the praises they were receiving for doing a good job, “by next year, your blood pressure level will go very high.

“This is because the praises you would see would be too much.” he said.

In a related development, Sen. Ireti Kingibe (LP-FCT), who appeared on Arise TV on Monday complained that she was being sidelined in the running of the FCT.

Kingibe particularly claimed that her constituency was being marginalised, adding that there was no clean water for the residents of Abuja.

She also said that roads being constructed across the FCT were not addressing the needs of the majority of the people, namely healthcare, water, education and security.

2027 Elections: Obi, Atiku can’t work together – Tajudeen Yusuf

Tajudeen Yusuf a  former member of the House of Representatives has dismissed the notion that Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar could form partnership ahead of 2027 general elections in the country.

It would be recalled that talks of an alliance between Obi, the presidential candidate of the  LP in the 2027 election, and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart Atiku gained mileage following a meeting between the duo some weeks back.

Obi was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election under the PDP before the former joined LP in the leadup to the 2023 poll.

However, Tajudeen said that he does not see both working together when Nigerians head to the ballot in three years time.

“They have worked together before in 2019. It would not be out of place if they work together again. I am not in their minds but I don’t see the possibility,” he said on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to him, Atiku’s comment after the meeting and other roadblocks make an alliance between the duo a herculean task.

“They met a few days ago and after the meeting, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar came out to say he will continue to contest as long as he’s alive and healthy,” the former lawmaker insisted.

“To me, that was to send a signal to those, especially the media, who were running with the notion that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar might step down and shelve his political ambition for Peter. But the follow-up statement a week later clarified that.”

He thinks both men may contest the poll in 2027 which makes talks of a merger difficult.

  • 2027: New party emerges, vows to sack APC from the center

2027: New party emerges, vows to sack APC from the center

A new political movement, known as the Allied Conservative Congress, (ACC) has emerged and has vowed to displace the ruling political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC come 2027.

Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, the National Publicity Secretary of the newly formed ACC, said through a statement that the party was ready to rescue the country from sliding into anarchy, economic depression, political upheavals and hopelessness.

According to the statement,  the party is strongly determined to sail Nigerians to a greater and brighter destination and make the country great again with its conservation ideology as enshrined in Chapter 2, Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy, of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

The party accused past and present administrations of clearly neglecting and observing in breach provisions of the 1999 Constitution since the restoration of democracy in 1999.

The statements reads partly: “It is this hijacking of the government by a cabal and exclusion of the people in the affairs of government that led to the horrible situation of Nigeria today and the urgent need to rescue and salvage it immediately,” the party said in a statement signed by Alh Abubakar Sadiq, its National Publicity Secretary.

”All patriotic Nigerians and lovers of democracy have seen the need for the formation of a new political movement that will pioneer and pilot the rescue mission of our beloved country before it is too late.

“Eminent Nigerians with conservative bent have met severally across the country, brainstormed, strategized and charted the way forward for the country.

“Existing political movements, political parties, politicians with progressive ideology have offered their services to the nation which instead of improving the well-being of citizens rather impoverished them which resulted in the current national tragedy, disillusionment and confusion in governance.

“The Allied Conservative Congress is resolved to make a difference and stand out among the motley crowd of political groups and parties that are promoting democracy in Nigeria and seeking the people’s mandate to rule.

“It has since applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for registration as a political party. And has structures across the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.

“Leaders and members of ACC are men and women of honour, integrity, and probity, with exceeding passion to make Nigeria forever great by restoring sanity, morality, honesty, uprightness, national cohesion, unity and patriotism. Nigerian people who belong to our political movement have an equal stake in the movement irrespective of ethnicity, religion and gender.

ACC members are guided by its motto which is “Sailing Nigerians to a Greater Destination”. Its flag consists of three equal-sized vertical curved stripes, green, white and purple and the movement’s logo is inside the white part of the flag. “

  • 2027: It’s unjust Ogun West hasn’t produced governor – Sen. Adeola

2027: It’s unjust Ogun West hasn’t produced governor – Sen. Adeola

Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen.Solomon Adeola (Yayi), says it is unjust that the district has not produced a governor since the creation of the state in 1976.

Adeola, Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation ,made the statement on Saturday in Lagos.

He spoke at the Yewaland Development Forum(YDF) 8th Distinguished Lecture Series, “Yewas Talk” and his Investiture as the Grand Patron of the Forum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lecture titled “Yewaland: Harnessing Our Potential and Opportunities Towards 2027 and Beyond”was held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

“It is no longer news that our area has suffered in the scheme of things since the creation of Ogun State on Feb.3, 1976.

“In the over 48 years history of Ogun State, no one from our senatorial district has been opportune to lead the state as the number one citizen.

“This unjust and unequitable anomaly is not as a result of not presenting ourselves for service or indeed a result of lack of eminently qualified persons,” Adeola said.

He said that all hands must be on deck to liberate the people of Yewaland politically and empower them.economically.

“Towards 2027, a leading and knowledge-based organisation as YDF must dispassionately look at all the factors that should engender success for Ogun West senatorial district in the governorship race.

“I have no doubt that the wherewithal to achieve the just aspiration of our people is available but we must consciously and painstakingly put our best foot forward this time around.

“Going forward, I don’t expect anyone from Yewaland to be a bystander in the ongoing struggle for political power in Ogun State,” he said.

According to him, with the array of eminent sons and daughters of Yewaland that populate the YDF, he is further convinced that Yewaland has all it takes to aspire and possibly win any high office in Nigeria and beyond.

Commending the YDF for counting him worthy of investituture as Grand Patron, the lawmaker pledged to always support and participate in the forum’s development initiatives for Yewaland.

“I suspect that the major considerations for this honour may be in recognition of my contributions to the development of Yewaland in both human and infrastructure aspects as well as contribution to Ogun State and national development over the years.

“For over a decade before now, I have made it one of my passion to strive towards the liberation of my people in Yewaland from the shackles of total neglect and underdevelopment that is traceable to unjust marginalisation from political power at state and Federal Government levels.

“My approach was to use personal resources and facilitations from government at the federal level to begin to address the rampant indices of underdevelopment in all sectors in Yewaland.

“In this wise, educational and health infrastructure, markets and roads have been constructed as well as provision of water and light to begin to address our development challenges which organisations like YDF are addressing in their own capacity.

“Equally, thousands of Yewa indigenes have benefitted directly from different types of empowerment and skills acquisition trainings,” he added.

Adeola said that since he became the representative of the area at the Senate,he had worked very hard to impact lives.

“God willing, my promise of making Ogun West a Small London before the end of my tenure is well on course,” he said.

While acknowledging contributions of his predecessors and other political office holders to the vdevelopment of Ogun West, Adeola promised to accomplish more for the benefit of the people.

Dr Iziaq Salako, the Guest Speaker and Minister of State for the Environment ,said there was the need for strong synergy and alliance among stakeholders for Yewa to produce next Ogun governor.

“When we truly synergise we can all progress. 2027 is the year for Ogun West to reset and to be set free.

“Division and confusion can end our agenda. If we work together, there is nothing we really cannot achieve,” Salako said.

On why 2027 was significant, Salako said that by then, Ogun would have crossed the golden age of 50 by a year and the phrase ‘Yewa people’ would be approaching 40 years .

Salako said that Yewaland arguably remained the largest land area and most populous sub-ethnic group in Ogun, making the area the reason the state is called the Gateway State.

He said Yewaland remained the agricultural backbone of the state and that it should begin to use its strengths to achieve poilitical opportunities in the state.

“The average Ogun person wants the next governor of Ogun State to be a Yewa man. The average Yewa man is politically conscious,” he added.

Calling on stakeholders to work together, Salako said there was the need to sit down and work hard, adding “It is the hard work and collaboration that will speak for Yewa in 2027”.

He urged the sub-ethnic group to deploy social intelligence through alliances within and without, exploring blood linkages to achieve the political goals of Yewa in 2027.

Salako called on leaders to begin to build social systems and organise the people towards achieving the Yewa Project in 2027.

He said that the sub ethnic group had not been strategic in some of the past elections.

“Elections cannot be won on tbe basis of sentiments and bravado alone,” he said.

The event was attended by various leaders in Yewaland including royal fathers, former and present commissioners, lawmakers, political leaders, academics , community leaders, market leaders, youth groups, among others.

Speaking as the Chairman of the Day, Bajomo said: ” We are talking about 2027 which is a transitional period. Time is key. We must not be careless

“We tried before, but there were some hindrances. We are looking for someone that will take us to the promised land.

“We are the next in turn. we are the one to do it. We will do the first and we will do the second term.

“We shall achieve our goal, we can do it,” Bajomo, Past President, Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN), said.

According to him, Yewaland is not only talking about producing the next government, but the development of the state.

  • 2027: Why we are working on a mega party – Utomi

2027: Why we are working on a mega party – Utomi

A renowned political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, says his plan to form a mega political party with like-minded people and political groups   ahead of 2027 general elections is on course.

Utomi, who returned to Nigeria on Wednesday after a long stay in the U.S., told NAN on Thursday that the redemption of the country could not be achieved by the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) or any of the opposition parties.

He said the present political parties had failed the people and had not added value to nation-building .

According to him, the planned mega party is to disrupt the current political order and  deliver that impactful leadership that the country truly deserves.

“It is precisely the reason I arrived Nigeria yesterday to continue that work(formation of mega party)

“I believe that the political party system in Nigeria has failed completely. Political parties are not democratic and they are not serving the purpose.

“Political parties and politicians of these parties cannot save Nigeria now, it is clear.

“The nature and the structure of our politics is such that even good people, when they enter these existing political parties, will play to  their interests.”,Utomi,Founder,Centre for Values in Leadership(CVL),  said .

According to the  former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2007 , parochial culture has consumed civic culture in the country and this has affected  the mindset of politicians.

He said a new political order must be birthed to get Nigeria out of the woods and that citizens and leaders must begin to do the right things to reposition the country.

“Nigeria must be saved by its citizens and this is precisely what I am advancing.

“We are talking about value- driven citizenship with integrity, work ethics, respect for the dignity of people, regard for labour.

“We are created for others; we are not created for ourselves, we are created for the good of others. A tree does not take benefit from the shades it creates.

“We want Nigerians to develop that mindset. Right now, the mindset that Nigerians have is ,me, myself, and I.

“Self -love is so consuming and that is why Nigerian politicians don’t act in the interest of the people or the state. They act so narrowly in their self- interests.”he said.

Utomi said in continuation of work to float the mega party,he would hold meetings in Lagos this week, and hold meetings in Abuja next week before holding  a news conference .

The political economist added he hoped to achieve much with the mega party talks before going back to the U.S.

Utomi said groups  that would come together  to form the mega platform were two cohorts of politicians- the ‘mea culpa’ and ‘new value “cohorts.

“The mea culpa cohort are politicians who have seen that what they did while in power had not helped Nigeria ,and  are now remorseful. They are now willing to become part of the redemption initiative.

“There is also new Nigeria new value cohort. This cohort will be working together ,and  it will include people from all these other political parties,” he said.

He said that some elder statesmen would also be brought into the fold  .

Recall that Utomi had in January 2024 said he had had conversations with leaders of some opposition parties on plan to form a new mega political party that would take power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

He disclosed that he had held discussions with some of the presidential candidates in the 2023 general elections ,including Atiku Abubakar of PDP, Peter Obi of LP and Rabiu Kwankwaso of NNPP over the possibility of bringing  them and other opposition politicians  together to form a new party.

  • 2027: Nyesom Wike speaks on contesting for president

2027: Nyesom Wike speaks on contesting for president

Nyesom Wike the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister has finally reacted to the news making the rounds about his presidential ambition come 2027.

According to Wike he would not be contesting in 2027, saying it would amount to disloyalty should he nurse such ambition.

Continuing, he said president Tinubu made him minister and it wouldn’t augur well for him to contest against him in 2027.

Wike added that he remained loyal to the Tinubu administration, Wike remembered how his eternal search for justice prompted him and five other Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors to create the G5 to canvass for transition of power to the Southern part of the country.

The minister stated in an interview on Friday in Abuja that excellent character should never be sacrificed on the altar of politics.

He said, “Tinubu made me the FCT minister and I won’t allow anybody to crumble our political structure. No!

“Tinubu made me minister, people don’t understand, I have character. What will happen in 2027? I stood and I said I am not going to support injustice. I was threatened that they would do me this and that. They tried many options including using Major Generals.”

  • Wike has started preparation for 2027 presidency – Timi Frank alleges

Wike has started preparation for 2027 presidency – Timi Frank alleges

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has alleged that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has started his race for the 2027 presidency.

Frank has also called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently sack the FCT minister for allegedly masterminding a plot to impeach the Governor of Rivers State, Siminilaye Fubara.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Frank condemned the action of the police in tear-gassing and pouring water on Fubara.

Frank said: “Already Wike has started demolishing houses and revoking ownership of landed property in Abuja to anger Nigerians, cause Tinubu to be hated and portray the APC’s administration as wicked and anti-people.

“By the time Tinubu will realize it, it will be too late because Wike would have destroyed his government to make way for him to contest the post of President in 2027.

“All Wike is after is governance, he has started preparation for 2027 presidency. So he’s very desperate and he will do everything to please Tinubu but at the same time he is going to destroy the government if they do not call him to order.”

Frank insisted that Wike’s sack has become necessary to stop him from bringing Tinubu’s government into disrepute and destroying the APC.

He added: “If Wike loves Tinubu and believes in his administration, let him officially join the APC and become a card-carrying member of the party. But he has refused to do so because he wants to destroy the APC to enable him contest for presidency in 2027 using the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has refused to defect to APC because of his evil agenda.

“Tinubu and APC should not only be wary but should urgently call on Wike to stop this madness in Rivers State, otherwise, it will backfire.

“Wike campaigned for Fubara and claimed he was the best among all the other candidates for the governorship election. But suddenly, Fubara is now his enemy because Fubara is no longer taking directives from him being a dictator who is after Rivers’ money.”

He also called on governors across party lines to rally support for their Rivers State counterpart in his bid to end Wike’s dictatorship and God-fatherism in Rivers State.

“If they allow Wike to succeed, to use federal might to illegally remove Fubara as governor, at the end of the day, sitting governors will become vegetables like local government chairmen in states because former governors who worked for their emergence as governors, will borrow a leaf of illegality from Wike to hound them out of office whenever they fail to do their bidding. So, it’s not all about the Rivers’ governor,” he added.
