Why I enjoyed dating 2face before he became famous – Annie Idibia

The wife of popular Nigerian singer, Annie Idibia has said that she enjoyed dating her husband 2face Idibia, before fame and age of social media.

The mother of two stated this in an interview with South African TV host and media entrepreneur, Olwethu Leshabane.

    When asked if she thinks the fact that she establish her connection with 2face before the fame and invasive public scrutiny has helped her weather the storms of love and how social media impacted the dynamics of their relationship, she said;

“Social media has its advantages and disadvantages. When I met Innocent (popularly known as 2Baba) there was no social media, as you said. He didn’t even have a single out now he has a discography that spans over two decades! It’s sad to see the current state of relationships as they have gone beyond what they should be because of social media. I would say that I enjoyed dating this man before he got famous because nobody was liking his pictures or trying to slide into his DM’s. It was beautiful. I had the best of Innocent before all the fame. It actually makes me sad for my daughters and all the single women who are trying to date in this current age of social media because I don’t think it’s healthy for relationships.

I don’t have time to explain myself anymore – 2face

Nigerian pop star, 2face Idibia has said he no longer has the time to explain reasons for his actions like in the past.

The music star’s reaction comes amid strings of issues that have rocked his marriage in the past two months.

TheNewsGuru recalls that 2face’s trouble started in September when Annie Idibia, his wife, called him out for allegedly spending nights with Pero Adeniyi, one of his baby mamas, under the guise of seeing his children.

Annie later apologised to her husband for acting “on something that’s wasn’t true” and throwing the marriage into danger.

But just when peace appeared to have returned to the singer’s family, Pero shared a screenshot of a message sent to Justin Idibia, her son, on Instagram.

In the post, the Instagram user had asked Justin to plead with Pero to stay away from people’s homes — an action condemned by 2Baba.

Shortly after Pero shared the post, some users had claimed that Annie was behind it.

2Baba, however, rose to her defence, while cursing those attempting to link her to the incident.

He had also shared Annie’s picture on his Instagram page with a terse post which reads “My queen.”

His action amid the ensuing drama has continued to provoke mixed reactions on social media platforms.

However, in a post via his Instagram Stories on Thursday, the ‘African Queen’ crooner said critics can believe whatever they hear about him.

“Whatever you heard about me, please believe it. I no longer have time to explain myself. You can add some if you want,” he wrote.

Annie first met 2face Idibia at Even Ezra Music Studio when she was just fifteen and in her words, “I think there was some electricity that second”.

They were friends first but had started dating officially by the time they shot the “African Queen” video in 2004. That was when 2Face announced that they were together during an interview.

According to Annie, “I remember my 16th birthday at Alpha Beach, with me and my friends. When we were going home, we all walked to the bus stop with him and his cousin. Plantashun Boiz had just recorded “Knock Me Off” at the time so he wasn’t a star yet.

So we got into the bus, he sat in front with his cousin so when we wanted to pay the conductor, he said, “no, he done pay already” I was feeling like a babe. “Hey! My boyfriend paid everybody’s bus fare.” And that time, a bus was like N2.50k or N3 per person for about 14 people. But he told me recently that he didn’t eat that night because he paid for everyone.”

2Face Idibia doles out N3.5m to support IDPs

Nigerian music star, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as “2Face,” on Monday presented a cheque of N3.5million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Idibia, who made the presentation to UNHCR in Lagos, said that he was particularly touched when he visited camps of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in North-Eastern Nigeria recently.

The Nigerian music artist said that he was donating the money to the agency to assist it in alleviating the living conditions of the IDPs, who had been subjected to harrowing experiences in the various camps.

“The conditions I met the internally displaced persons, when I visited their various camps were terrible. They were really terrible.

“The 2Face Foundation has, therefore, decided to enter into partnership with the UNHCR to see how we can help put smiles on the faces of these persons. “My foundation is today presenting this cheque to the UNHCR to support it in its operations of alleviating the sufferings of these IDPs,’’ he said.

Idibia called on other well-meaning Nigerians to come all out and support the International organisation in its effort at protecting the millions of Nigerians in the various camps.

He said that it had become obvious that the agency and government alone would not be able to address the current socio-economic problems facing the IDPs.

The UNHCR’s Acting Country Representative to Nigeria, Ms Brigitte Mukango-Eno, commended 2Face for the humanitarian gesture, adding that her Agency currently needed public support for its operations in the North East.

Mukango-Eno, who was represented UNHCR’s External and Donor Relations Officer, Mr Hanson Tamfu, said that the activities of Boko Haram in the North- East had overstretched the agency’s financial base.

“We sincerely want to express the gratitude of the UNHCR to 2Face. This is a right step toward our private sector following.

“Over these years, it has become important for us, as an organisation, to depend on the private sector, for us to be able to meet our responsibilities.

“2Face has scored a very important goal by discovering the UNHCR Office within the UN system.

“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to other private Nigerians and philanthropists to emulate this gesture by the 2Face Foundation in alleviating the conditions of the IDPs in the North East,’’ she said.

According to her, the UN Refugee Agency, currently responds to the needs of more than 1.8 million internally displaced persons in Nigeria.
