Police can’t stop 2face, others from exercising fundamental rights – Sani

The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani has said the Police and other sister agencies don’t have the powers to stop the proposed protest being spear-headed by popular musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face slated for February 6.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that the popular singer had recently announced that he would be leading a nationwide protest against the alleged “obnoxious policies” of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Following his declaration, Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni said the protest cannot hold in Lagos as the state police force does have the manpower to guarantee the security of lives at such protest.

The commissioner’s statement has however drew the attention of irate Nigerians who said the police have no right to disapprove the protest.

Reacting to Owoseni’s threat, Shehu who took to his twitter handle on Friday said it was wrong for the police to refuse Tuface permit to hold a peaceful protest.

He wrote: “It’s simply wrong for the police to deny or refuse permit to 2Face to organise a peaceful protest. Protest is a right in democracy.

“There is no society as inflammable as the one inhabited by a people with little or nothing to lose.”

Also speaking on a monitored television programme, spokesperson to the Acting President, Laolu Akande said the presidency is not going to stop people from expressing their fundamental human rights.

In his words: “Presidency is not going to stop people from expressing their fundamental human rights.

“People have the right to protest. Whoever they want to support or oppose is their right.

‘”Government is not in the business of countering any protest.”

Award winning pop star, 2face Idibia is preparing to stage a protest on February 6th alongside concerned Nigerians. However, The Lagos State Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni on Wednesday declared that he will stop the purported protest. According to him, there hasn’t been an official request from the organizers of the protest notifying security agencies of their plan.

He further added that security reports says hoodlums are planning to hijack the protest. He stated that the police wasn’t ready for that kind of demonstration and as such would not allow it to hold.

In his words: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest. And as such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos. We know that 2face do not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand.”

Owoseni said: “The Civil Society had said that they do not need police permission to carry out any peaceful protest, but they should also be aware that there might be those who share an opposing view. This set of persons may want to disrupt the peaceful demonstration and would want to attack demonstrators. This is why we advise individuals or group of persons who may wish to embark on civil demonstration to inform the police so that adequate security arrangement would be provided.”

“Our mumu don do”- Charly Boy reacts to 2face planned protest

Former PMAN President , Charles Oputa a.k.a Charly Boy has reacted to the 2face led planned protest. In an article titled :’The 2face March,‘the outspoken entertainer urged Nigerians to support the protest saying :”Our mumu don do”

    Read the piece below

I no just understand my people some times. Some people go sidon dey look Uche face, dey dulling and the few wey wan do something weather our condition go fit better, na so we go dey yab dem, dey stone dem. I just tire when I read some useless tweets and updates about Tuface.

As a Fada, e no go nice if I just sidon make some guys dey fuckup, dey miss yarn because dem Mumu never Do.
    Have we not suffered Enough?
    Are we not Hungry Enough?
Has Corruption not crippled our People enough?
Has Political Criminality not damaged our Morality enough?
Wetin remain again, no be to enter street?
If some can’t see the sense in the march Tuface is organizing why must they insist on exposing their ignorance on our social highway. If him like make e get 7 kids with 3 babymamas, what has that got to do with the price of garri in the market?
Has TuFace not been actively involved in the demand for good governance before now? So why is it that he has ulterior motives now.
Until we fraustrated Nigerians begin to stand up and fight for good governance at all Level, we go soon chop sand sand.
I am from Oguta in Imo State; I am doing my little bit in empowering the youths, Mothers, Market Women and Disadvantaged people who have no access to a simple normal life. I am also using the Njiko Carnival under The Justice Oputa Foundation to promote not just the historical heritage of the Oguta people, but also the Magnificent Oguta Blue Lake and environs as a tourisim hub in Nigeria, most times with my money. Yet, some people go dey cause me, some just dey like read meanings into my action like say dem dey my mind. But una know say I no send anybody.
We could never have sank this low if it wasn’t for our inactions, our docility and our Mumuness.
I support mass mobilisation, mass movement, citizen advocacy, the fight, struggle for a better country and the drive to Emancipate the mind of Nigerians. I Believe that is what my guy Tuface Idibia wants too. So we must all commot.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
We are stronger when many speak together as one voice.
We are stronger when we think in the same direction
we are stronger when we project our common values
we are stronger when we are oblivious of tribe/religion in our decision making.
Anyhow, anywhere any day I go show, because Na our future we they fight for. Since last year me and some exceptional nigerian youths are also putting together The Mother of all rally’s to be held in Abuja. We must see the end of this nonsense.
Pikin wey say him mama no go rest, him too no go sleep. We they come, them go know how far. Am calling on all celebrities wey get mouth to speak out and fall out. Everybody wey dey fraustrated with this country must show, enough is enough.
I believe that the biggest threat to governance in Nigeria are the criminal Governors; their stooges at the local government level. The Nigerian National Assembly that is forever breaking Laws instead of making them and the Judiciary where Justice is now for the Highest Bidder. Una go hearam,
The many agencies under the Executive like the CBN; NNPC; RMAFC; Finance and others need to be pressured to introduce accountability into governance. So we all must begin to face those Governor who have Collected Several Bailouts from the Federal Government and Looted them; Those Governors who are taking Security Votes and Looting them; Those Governors who go to the Ministry of Finance Monthly to Collect FAAC Allocations and Loot them; Those Governors who are Refusing to Pay Salaries but have no Problem Chartering Private Jets worth Tens of Millions of Naira.
We must stop hailing the Corrupt and destroyers of our Dreams; We must Expose and ridicule them. We must be audacious in our Demands; we must be Fearless in our Agitation and we must be ready to sacrifice for this Country. Nothing will happen unless we change this our Mumu mindset that has rendered us hopeless.
The divisive politics that we play, is our Enemy; The Nigerian People are the Victim and it is time to channel our anger towards a Peaceful Revolution. We must stop being the victims and become THE FEAR.
If our yeye Leaders no fear us, change no go come.
Very soon they will no longer be able to enjoy all that stolen money in this country again.
    God punish bad people.
    #OurMumuDonDo.

Nationwide protest saga: Fayose lists entertainers on APC’s payroll

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the public outrage that emanated since he declared support for the 2face led planned nationwide protest.

Speaking through his media aide Lere Olayinka, he outlined entertainers who are on All Progressives Congress(APC)’s payroll.

According to him:”The APC online supporters have warned Tuface against allowing opposition politicians to join the protest. The hypocrisy of these APC people is legendary!”

“Anyway, for the sake of clarity, Fayose only declared support for the rally being an opposition figure! However, If Fayose is one of those bankrolling the protest, so be it!!! I want to say without any fear or favour that 90% of protests staged against Goodluck Jonathan government had financial support from Bourdillon and APC controlled states and I stand corrected.”

“When Tinubu and APC Governors were bankrolling Actors and Actresses such as 9ice (Who later served as Special Adviser to APC Gov. Ajimobi in Oyo), Ronke Oshodi Oke (She’s a member of APC transition committee in Ondo), Dayo Adeneye D1 (current Commissioner for Information in Ogun State) Desmond Elliot (now a member of Lagos State House of Assembly), Jide Josoko (Veteran APC Reps Aspirant from Lagos) etc to stage protest against Jonathan’s government, heaven did not fall.”

“All the aforementioned entertainers were at Freedom Park, Ojota in January 2012 for one week, singing against Jonathan in the presence of Pastor Tunde Bakare of the CPC (now APC) and Dino Melaye; and Heaven did not fall then.”

“Those of you making noise today applauded anti-Jonathan protesters and the opposition politicians supporting them. The then Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi in particular gave N10 million to Occupy Naija members in Ado-Ekiti. So why should Fayose’s case be different? “

...5 reasons 2face led planned protest is troubling the presidency

When you think of 2face presently, what comes to mind is the planned protest he is spearheading against the Nigerian government and backlash coming his way. The planned protest slated for February 6th 2017,has garnered various reactions from Nigerians. One reaction that has got everyone ‘s attention is that of Governor Fayose of Ekiti State.

The outspoken Governor revealed on Twitter that he is ready to be part of the protest.According to him:”Let it be February 5, 6 or any day . I will be part of any protest aimed at rescuing our country from dictatorship and nepotism”

On the importance of protests, Righttoprotest.com states that protests exposes flaws in governance.

“Historically, protests have often inspired positive social change and the advancement of human rights, and they continue to help define and protect civic space in all parts of the world. Protests encourage the development of an engaged and informed citizenry. They strengthen representative democracy by enabling direct participation in public affairs.

“They enable individuals and groups to express dissent and grievances, to share views and opinions, to expose flaws in governance and to publicly demand that the authorities and other powerful entities rectify problems and are accountable for their actions. This is especially important for those whose interests are otherwise poorly represented or marginalised”

As the news of purported protest lingers, we take at a look at 5 reasons the 2face led planned protest is troubling the presidency.

    1. Influence

Baby mama scandals aside, Innocent Ujah Idibia is perhaps the most influential Nigerian entertainer of his generation. The R n B star has dined with kings and queens, recorded chart topping songs, won several awards and now lending his voice to the entrenchment of good governance in Nigeria . 2face isn’t just another celeb who is hungry for cheap fame. He has it already. His influence is making the presidency and APC shudder

    2. The Governor Fayose connection

Governor Ayo Fayose ‘s pledged support for the protest is another reason for the government to take the nationwide protest serious. Perhaps , they thought its going to be another usual Nigerian street rant, now the protest is moving beyond the entertainment space to the politcal terrain.

    3.Reality Check

The scheduled protest will serve as a reality check for the Buhari led administration ,making them feel the pulse of the people. It will also make leaders at all levels of government become more accountable to the citizenry.

    4.Celebrity support

When celebrities put their star power to good use, it helps to amplify the cause they are putting the spotlight on. Celebrities like Davido, Burna Boy, Seyi law, Niyola and others have put their weights behind the planned protest. The more celebrities support the protest, the more powerful it becomes. Recall that the Occupy Naija nationwide protest was formidable because celebrities put their weights behind it.

    5. Social media trend

The planned protest was first announced via social media and since then it has spread like a virus. Recall that the #Blacklivesmatter protest gained momentum because of the massive social media engagement.

Today, whatever trends on social media is an issue that needs to be paid attention. 2face made use of Facebook Live to address Nigerians yesterday. It instantaneously became a trending topic on Twitter. The fact that the citizenry are questioning their leaders at the national level, taking to social media to pour their resentments toward the government ,is enough reason for the presidency to buckle up.

“People think your mistakes should be used against you”-Seyilaw tells 2face

Outspoken comedian , Seyilaw has joined the league of celebrities who have publicly declared their support for the 2face led planned protest. According to him,he has seen 2face come under huge criticism by people who judge him by his past mistakes.

The award winning comedian made this statement on his Instagram page. He puts it this way: “I have seen you come under serious criticism and read from some people who think your mistakes should be held on you for ever, but I am here to tell you that I am with you.

” You didn’t start the movement, you only lend your support to the voice of the people. You have only proven that at a time such as this, Nigeria and Nigerians deserve to truly be served.

” I can boldly say we are not lazy people, we just don’t enjoy the right environment to excel. Good governance has been the bane of our development and institutions. Together with you, we will rise and match against those that oppress us.

“Today, I stand with you and as long as your stand is for the good of this nation, I will keep standing. Please don’t let us politicise the protest as some fools made us do with the fuel subsidy. God bless you brother.”

  • “Tell us your beef with Buhari”- President’s media aide queries 2face

“Tell us your beef with Buhari”- President’s media aide queries 2face

Myriad reactions emanated after pop star, 2face announced that he will be spearheading a protest geared towards demanding accountability from leaders at all levels of government in Nigeria.

However, judging from the body language of the presidency, it appears they aren’t in support of the protest as they see it as being politically motivated .

President Buhari’s personal assistant on social media Lauretta Onochie, quizzed 2face on Tuesday night asking him to take up the challenge of explaining the president’s policies he is not happy with on National TV.

According to her: “Nigerians would like 2Baba to explain the policies that he’s not happy with on National LIVE TV, as well as proffer alternative economic policies that would better serve all Nigerians. Not on newspapers that could have been written by anyone.”

“That way, Nigerians will know it’s entirely his idea, that he understands what he’s doing, and acting in the interest of all Nigerians. Otherwise, we might assume that the protest is for those who miss the heist that happened under You know who. Nigerians are waiting. Thank you Sir”.

Recall that the African Queen crooner released a video yesterday where he stated reasons for the planned protest
