NCDC responds after 2face slams agency for COVID-19 portal breakdown

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has responded to assertions by popular singer, 2baba, that he and some Nigerians were stuck at an airport because the COVID-19 portal was down.

In a series of tweets via the verified NCDC handle, the agency took blame for the portal’s malfunction.
The agency tweeted, “On the 20th of April, a system failure by one of the partner organisations supporting the management of the COVID-19 travel portal led to an unforeseen downtime. The technical failure was resolved following about 12 hours of downtime.

“We accept full responsibility for this event, which led to inconvenience for several travellers to Nigeria.”
The agency further used the opportunity to restate that they had learnt from the incident and would strive to serve Nigerians better.

“We have learnt from this occurrence and continue to restructure our systems to avoid future events like this and serve Nigerians better. Our commitment remains to protect the health of Nigerians, by reducing the risk of the spread of the virus. This is why the Nigerian International Travel Portal was introduced by @PTFCOVID19.

“We’ll continue strengthening this process to make it seamless for travellers,” the agency tweeted

TheNewsGuru recalls that on Thursday, a frustrated 2face took to his Instagram story to share his plight as he and other Nigerians were stranded at an airport because of the portal breakdown.

According to him, there is a compulsory COVID-19 arrival test portal, which collects N50,000 per passenger but has failed to deliver QR code. He noted that this got them stranded at the airport.

He said: “NCDC; you people better wake up. You are causing serious hardship for people travelling. You will be at the airport, they tell you to pay or bring several things. What is this? What kind of wickedness is all this one?

“This office knows that people travel every second, yet, they are closed. We called their line, nobody picked up. What kind of evil is that? Just imagine Nigerians stranded at the airport because of some useless people. This is unacceptable. It is annoying. It is totally annoying. This is wickedness.”

In the Instastories he shared, the singer further captioned the videos. “@NCDCGOV This racket has to stop. Your useless and money-thieving portal is becoming embarrassing. @NCDCGOV Wakeup. Answer your phones.

“Ridiculous @NCDC compulsory COVID-19 arrival test portal collects N50,000 per passenger and fails to deliver QR code. Passengers stranded. Business and personal commitments messed up. Who bears the responsibility for this?”

Social media regulation shows Nigerian leaders are irresponsible -2face

Nigerian singer, 2face Idibia has described the plans by Nigerian government to regulate social media as irresponsible.

TheNewsGuru recalls that the minister of information, Lai Mohammed on Saturday said the Buhari-led government had no intention of shutting down social media.

According to the minister, the government has regards for freedom of speech and therefore plans to only regulate social media in order to stop sending fake news and promoting hate speech.

According to him, a responsible government would not talk about regulating social media at a time where the youths are demanding an end to bad governance, amongst others.

Reacting, 2baba urged the leaders to do the needful first before regulating social media.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “It is the irresponsibility of Nigeria’s successive governments, political elites, corporate greed and thievery that made social media enter Nigeria without regulation in the first place.

“All this talk against it now stinks of desperation from irresponsible leaders.Do the needful 1st!

“’If to say them be responsible governments no be now them for dey talk this one.’ It shows how irresponsible all of them have been

“Everything I talk na PDP and APC join o. Don’t get it twisted. They are the same.”

2baba however, added that everything is expected to be regulated in order to maintain law and order in the country but not in the direction the government was planning.

“Everything is supposed to be regulated. There must be law and order, but no be this one wey dem dey talk. This their own na fowl nyash wey open dem wan cover,” his tweet added.

  • I am yet to gain digital acceptance-2baba

I am yet to gain digital acceptance-2baba

Revered Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia a.k.a 2face says he will love to garner digital acceptance via his music. The soft spoken singer, who has over the years become a role model to budding artistes, made this revelation in a chat with Nigerian music journalist, Joey Akan.

2baba noted that he embraced digital platforms late.

“There are plenty things that I know that I haven’t achieved. As you know, I started from a different era. I started from the era of cassettes. We scaled through cassettes, we entered CD. We have scaled through CD, now we’re in the digital era, you know. I think I have achieved a whole lot from the cassette era, being part of a group that was one of the biggest groups in the continent at that time. And then to my solo movements, from the early days which was a CD market. I think I broke records in that time: highest numbers of CDs sold, awards and all that stuff.

“Now we are in the digital era. And as you’re well aware, many of the young cats are amazing. Their numbers are staggering. Their numbers are ground breaking. And I think I caught up late on that digital movement. You know how these things are, it’s the next generation that always takes it to the next level. And I think it’s no exception with me and these new guys that are coming up. They’ve taken it to the next level, and that was the dream. So for me, I’m not going to say I want to achieve…I definitely want to achieve those numbers as well. But I want to achieve it being me. I want to achieve it in my own genre, in my own terms, without necessarily being in any competition with anybody.

“So definitely I’d like to up my numbers in terms of digital acceptance and digital awareness. I’d definitely like to up my numbers, one one side. There’s still a whole lot of markets that I haven’t really penetrated, so to speak. I definitely want to eventually get to penetrate these markets. In terms of business and other things, there are so many things that I’m trying to piece together and grow and make happen. Because it has always been about creativity for me. Now, I think it’s time to upgrade my business skills and upgrade my businesses. All that, is part of things that I know that I still have to achieve, I want to achieve. And hopefully we are working towards it. I still want to go back to school and study something. I want to study entertainment law. Not necessarily to go to court or do anything like that. Not necessarily to be called to the bar. But to be able to draft contracts, to be able to read contracts, to be able to know all the legal nitty gritty of entertainment law”
