  • Imo: Tribunal grants AA’s request to withdraw Nwosu’s petition against Ihedioha’s election

The Imo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri has granted the request of Action Alliance (AA) to withdraw from the petition filed by its governorship candidate in the 2019 election, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu.

The party had, in a letter dated May 27 and signed by its Legal Adviser, Anaukyaa Peter, requested its counsel, Okey Ehieze, to discontinue his appearance in the suit no: EPT/OW/GOV/IM/02/2019, in which AA is the second petitioner.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Michael Adewara, Monday, said that the Tribunal has no option but to grant the request of the petitioner.

The Tribunal, however, rejected the request of the respondents, Emeka Ihedioha and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to have the case struck off.

But Nwosu in reaction said that he was not perturbed by the ruling.

In a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity Ugwumba Uche Nwosu Campaign Organization, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the AA guber candidate said that as disappointing as this decision was, he assured his supporters that there was absolutely no cause for alarm, as the ruling has in no way vitiated the credibility of the petition.

Nwosu maintained that he was the undisputed winner of that election, and expressed optimism that the learned justices would serve justice by declaring him the winner of that election.

He said, “We are not unaware of the jubilation going on in the camp of the PDP, and the suspicious interest they have shown in this matter. While we sympathize with Imolites over the possible squandering of our commonwealth to procure individuals and accessories, that may help them perpetuate their illegal reign, we encourage all Imolites of goodwill to remain steadfast and firm, as the best news for Imolites is yet ahead.

We are also delighted to inform Imolites that attempts by the PDP and Chief Ihedioha to prevail on the tribunal to strike off our matter was resisted by the learned justices. With this development, His Excellency Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is still very much on course to retrieve his mandate from the thieving locusts,” he added.

BREAKING: Imo Speaker, 18 other lawmakers dump APC for AA

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Acho Ihim and 18 other members of the House, Thursday on the floor of the House, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Action Alliance (AA).

With the defection, the AA now controls the majority of the 27-member Assembly with 19 members, while the APC has three members and the PDP zero

Five APC members were earlier suspended and have not been recalled.

Addressing the plenary, the Speaker, disclosed that the defection of the Lawmakers was as a result of the crisis that bedeviled the APC primaries in the State.

According to him; “after the injustice that was meted to our members by the National Chairman of our party, the APC, some of our members went to another party to actualize their ambitions. They wrote me a letter through Ikechukwu Amuka, expressing their intentions and today I want to officially announce that 17 members of the House have officially defected to AA.

It is interesting to note that PDP members also moved to AA, Speaker and I have no choice than to join the majority by dumping the APC for AA”.

The defectors were Ikechukwu Amuka (Ideato South) Arthur Egwim (Ideato North), Obinna Egwu (Ngor-Okpalla) Chinedu Offor, (Onuimo), Uju Onwudiwe (Njaba), Mike Iheanetu (Aboh Mbaise), Victor Onyewuchi (Owerri West), Ken Agbim (Ahiazu) and Bruno Okuoha (Wzinihitte).

Others were Lyod Chukwuemeka (Owerri West), Kennedy Ibe (Obowo), Henry Ezediaro (Oguta), Lugard Osuji (Owerri Municipal) and the Speaker, Rt. Hon Acho Ihim (Okigwe).

The defected Lawmakers however reiterated their commitment to the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that he has delivered on his campaign promises and has proved to be an honest leader.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon Lugard Osuji, in his speech, noted that the National Chairman of the APC robbed the people of the State by hijacking the party structure and handed it over to “rascals”.

He said, “Our defection does not affect our support for President Buhari, we are going to work for his reelection. We only left the APC because of the injustice done to us by the National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole”.

The Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday, dissolved a 21-year-old between one Idowu Iyanda and his wife Florence over the wife’s infidelity and alcoholism.

The President of the court, Mr Ademola Odunade, ruled that the marriage was dissolved due to irreconcilable differences between the couple.

“When wives refuse to keep to dos and don’ts binding a union, the result is usually tragic and bring about break up such as what is currently taking place.

“In the interest of peaceful coexistence, the union between Idowu and Florence has ceased to be henceforth.

“Custody of the four children produced by the union is granted to Idowu.

“Idowu shall pay N3,000 to Florence to enable her move out her property from the house,” the Arbitrator said.

Earlier, Idowu, a carpenter had told the court that his wife Florence, was an unrepentant prostitute and alcoholic.

“My lord, when I entered into the union with Florence in 1996, I never knew that I was making a very terrible mistake for choosing her as a life partner.

“She is never to be trusted for a single moment in terms of fidelity as Florence has made herself a public tap where all sorts of men of easy virtue fetch water.

“My lord, times without number, I have caught her with men and I have warned her against the adulterous act.

“For the sake of emphasis my lord, our fourth and last child is a sickle cell patient, my own Genotype is AA, Florence is AS, how did our last child become an SS.

“Worst still, Florence is an addicted alcohol consumer. In fact, she still consumed one last night, this is the bottle, my Lord.

“When she was complaining that she wanted to be riding a car, despite the fact that I don’t drive, I bought a car.

“We agreed that she will be driving the car, carrying me to and from my workshop.

“One day, Florence carried me to a particular point and abandoned me in the car and went her way.

“In addition, she no longer perform any of her conjugal rites and she quarrels with me all the time.

“Florence is a highly disobedient wife and she has even vowed to eliminate me from the surface of the earth.

“She poisoned the drinking water at home with the intention that I will drink it, but I got to know and refused to take the water,” Idowu said.

Florence, a hair dresser, who could not deny most of the allegations, however, pleaded with the court to save her marriage.

She said that she was not ready to part ways with Idowu because they both achieved greatness together.

“My lord, it is true that I consume alcohol, but it is only during cold weather.

“I wonder why Idowu is rejecting the paternity of our last child. I don’t know why he is an SS,” Florence said.

The couple resides at Alegun-Oleyo area of Ibadan.
