    Video: Abductors of children deserve capital punishment – Remi Tinubu

    In a video making the rounds, the First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, has called abductors of children a coward, stating that they deserve capital punishment.

    She disclosed this in reaction to  200 women who were kidnapped in Borno State and over 280 pupils and teachers kidnapped in Kaduna State.

    Recall that it was reported that about 200 women were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in the Gamboru-Ngala and Dikwa local government areas of Borno State, and over 280 pupils and teachers of Government Secondary School and LEA primary school at Kuriga, Kaduna State, were also abducted by bandits on Thursday.

    Police arrest medical doctor with 3 abducted children

    The Police Command in Benue on Sunday said a medical doctor has been arrested in Rivers over the disappearance of three children from Benue.

    The medical doctor, whose name was not given, was arrested by the police in Rivers following an alert on the missing children.

    A statement signed by the command spokesman, SP Sewuese Anene in Makurdi, said that the children were found in the doctor’s custody in Rumuokoro.

    Anene said the Command had on Sept. 24, received a complaint from one Mr Godwin Kpaakpa of Badagry Street, Opposite St. Peters Church Wurukum, Makurdi that two of his children were missing.

    Anene said that the children, Philomena and Benedict, were aged six and about two years.

    She said the command commenced an investigation and sent a signal nationwide, adding that the two children and one other were recovered in the hands of the doctor during an operation.

    “On Oct. 20, information was received from Rivers Police Command that in the course of an operation at, Rumuokoro area, they rescued three children from a medical doctor that seem to be the same children earlier reported by Benue Command.

    “A team of detectives was sent to Rivers state for identification and other necessary actions.

    “Fortunately, the two children were identified alongside one other child, Godsgift Julius, whose parents are yet to be identified.

    “Philomena and Benedict have been reunited with their family while Godsgift is yet to connect with his family.

    “The medical doctor is being investigated by Rivers Command while efforts are being made to locate his accomplices in Benue,” she added.

    The Command spokesperson advised parents to monitor the movement of their children to save them from human traffickers.

  • Child Trafficking: Rescued 145 minors, did not eat for 6 days – Commissioner

    On Thursday 12th January, 2017 the special task force, Sector 2 located opposite University of Jos intercepted two trucks conveying 145 children from Bauchi and Jigawa states to Plateau, Kaduna and Nassarawa states.

    According to Plateau Police Command spokesman, Mr. Terna Tyopev, he said the children, aged between four to eight years, were being moved from Jigawa and Bauchi to Plateau, Kaduna and Nasarawa States.

    The children – all male and within the age range of four to eight years – were rescued by members of the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven.

    The trucks that were meant for carrying farm products and animal, was converted to convey the minors under harsh weather.

    The Plateau Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Rufina Gurumyen, spoke on the minors, at an advocacy visit by the Community Based Development (CBD), a Non Governmental organisation (NGO), to her office on Tuesday in Jos, described the abduction as “very sad”.

    She said that the Police had commenced investigation into the matter.

    “It is pathetic that more than 145 children were on transit to an unknown destination for six days without food or even having their baths.

    “ My ministry was immediately called upon after the recovery, and we are making enquiries to ensure appropriate action,“ she said.

    Since their rescue, the children have been in the custody of the Nigeria Police at their headquarters in Jos, while investigation into the matter continues.

    The suspects, comprising two drivers, eight conductors and three accompanying instructors were still in the custody of the Police and they have been providing information about how they came about the children and their destination.

    The Police say it would soon embark on the process of establishing contact with the state governments of Jigawa and Bauchi for the return of the children to their parents.
