I supported Lawan, but won election for Tinubu, says APC chair, Adamu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has said he deserved some commendation despite working for Senator Ahmad Lawan in the run-up to the party’s presidential primaries, even if only for the fact that he (Adamu) presided over the victory of President Bola Tinubu.

Adamu disclosed this in an interview with Arise Television, yesterday In Abuja.

According to him,the rumoured differences between himself and the president were unfounded, pointing out that before the emergence of Tinubu he had the right to support whoever he wanted.

He stated that he was also misrepresented about his position on the recently elected principal officers of the national assembly, saying that what the APC had issues with was the manner the communication was handled by the lawmakers.

Adamu said those who have issues against him have always had the opportunity to air their views at their national meetings, explaining that Saliu Lukman, for instance, who has always accused him of running a one-man show, has always attended those meetings.

“I think that’s a soft selling point for you media people. It is true that at the time that I made a presentation to the National Working Committee (NWC), the name of Senator Ahmed Lawan was thrown up.

“That was before the convention. So many things took place between then and the actual date of the convention and you saw what culminated in the convention unanimously. I was there and I led the convention of the party.

“A day after the convention, I took the entire working committee to his (Tinubu’s) house in Asokoro and assured him of our support and said we will stand shoulder to shoulder with him and ensure that the mandate was sold properly to the people of Nigeria. We won the election. Instead of being praised, we are vilified,” he said.

He noted that it wasn’t the time for vilification, expressing the view that since he led the party to success, he should be commended.

Adamu said he had a right to hold an opinion like he did on Lawan before the primaries, but noted that once it was clear that Tinubu emerged, every member had to rally around him.

He said he currently has a good working relationship with Tinubu since his election, noting that the president has always given him his full attention each time they met.

The national APC chairman said reports about himself and the president not on the same page remain speculative, urging the media to be fair to him.

On his comments which were reported about the Ondo governor that the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu was extremely incapacitated, Adamu stressed that there was no such pronouncement at his meeting with state chairmen.

The chairman further said the future of the APC remains very bright, explaining that his hope was that in the next four years , Tinubu will get renewal for a second term.

He noted that he wasn’t bothered by media reports of differences with the president , pointing out that his main task at the moment is to keep the party as one strong entity.

Speaking on G-5 governors, he said he was willing to accept the governors led by Nyesom Wike into the APC, noting that they will be most welcome whenever they decide to opt for the APC.

Adamu debunks comment on Akeredolu’s health status, says statement was misrepresented

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has debunked a report credited to the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is in a state of extreme incapacity, and hospitalised.

The party in a statement issued by Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary on Tuesday, said the headline, “Akeredolu in state of extreme incapacity, hospitalised”, bore a tinge of the usual mischievous, wicked and insensitive reportage, sponsored by desperate politicians.

    The statement reads:
“The attention of the national headquarters of ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS has been drawn to a report, credited to the National Chairman; Senator Abdullahi Adamu, in the 11th July, 2023.

” The headline, “Akeredolu in state of extreme incapacity, hospitalised”, bore a tinge of the usual mischievous, wicked and insensitive reportage, sponsored by desperate politicians.

“The National Chairman was indeed excited at the reports on the rate of recovery of the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, and urged all those present at the meeting to pray for his quick return.

“It, therefore, smacks of mischief and unabashed abandonment of professional ethics for a reporter to present this gross misrepresentation, a mischievous twist, as news. At no time did the National Chairman mention that the Governor was in a state of “extreme incapacity” in the meeting of 10th July 2023 or anytime for that matter.

“He is, evidently, not in any critical state that should warrant this clearly reprehensible conduct as he still sent a post to the Executive Council Committee platform yesterday.

” Members of the public are advised to ignore this news as the contents therein exist in the realm of the imagination of workers of iniquity.

” Mr. Governor is NOT incapacitated. He will return to his duty as soon as the doctors certify him fully fit to do so”, he Said.

Ministerial appointments: Our prayer is that Tinubu will take us along – APC Chair, Adamu

The national chairman of ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) Abdullahi Adamu has expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu will carry the leadership of the party along in his ministerial appointments.

Adamu made this remark during a meeting with APC state chairmen at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday.

According to him , the essence of the meeting was to brief the state chairmen on the preparation of forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting scheduled for July 19.

He said “The fact that we are going to have our first National Executive Committee, NEC since the election of 2023. And it will be the first our president, and commander in chief of the Armed Forces, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be attending with his Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.

“We thought it necessary to sit with chiefs executives of states and the leadership of our states for our party in various stares. We had a very fruitful and one of the longest meeting with the governors. And what we find most encouraging is their attitudes.

“Every APC member has an inherent right to hope, to get some patronage. And we can all get one here. We cannot all be ministers of the government. We cannot all end up as board members, directors of parastatals and MDAs across the country. That we do expect some patronage from the government that we are forming.

“The President has just started and he is doing his extensive consultation before coming up with his nominees for Ministers. The nomination of the Ministers will come first. They will go through their screening until they are pronounced after they have been submitted before Mr. President and Mr President will formally appoint his Ministers and swear them in.

“Only after doing that will he disclose each of them to the country to know which Minister is going to which ministry. And how many ministry we are going to have. After that is done, the Ministers assume office and make a comprehensive report starting from all the ministry. And MDAs under them. Before we are going to know what vacancies exist of Chief executives, directors and part time directors.

These are some of the exercise that will take place with the next two months. It cannot happen by next week but certainly that is what we should be expecting.

“It is our hope and prayers that Mr. President will come along with us in that regard and strengthen the relationship of the party in the states and at the National level will enjoy some level of patronage in the new government. Those are the key issues that we do hope to share with you in the course of this meeting,” he said

APC  crisis deepens as NWC members kick against Adamu over comment on NASS selection

Controversy as three members of the national working committee of All Progressives Congress (APC)  dissociated themselves from the statement made by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu over the election of Principal Officers of the 10th National Assembly.

Thenewsguru.com (TNG), reports that Adamu on Tuesday during a meeting between NWC and APC governors, said the party’s NWC was not involved in the emergence of the Principal Officers in the National Assembly.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio had on Tuesday announced Senator Opeyemi Bamidele as Leader, Dave Umahi (Ebonyi South) as the Deputy Majority Leader; Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South) as Chief Whip; and Senator Lola Ashiru (Kwara South) as the Deputy Whip.

Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas named Hon. Julius Ihonvbere as the Majority Leader; while Hone Abdullahi Halims, as Deputy Majority leader; Hon. Bello Kumo, was named the chief whip; and Adewunmi Onanuga, was announced as the Deputy Chief Whip.

Speaking with newsmen on condition of anonymity on Wednesday in Abuja, three members of the NWC distanced themselves and the NWC from such actions that clearly undermine the smooth take off of the APC federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and asked the National Chairman to desist from such action.

They expressed worry that it would appear that the National Chairman has made up his mind not to work harmoniously with President Bola Tinubu.

The NWC members revealed that during the meeting many APC governors who spoke on the issue cautioned the Chairman.

They said the governors urged Adamu to reach out to the leadership of the National Assembly and resolve the matter amicably.

The three NWC members said: “During the meeting many Governors who spoke on the issue cautioned the Chairman and urged him to reach out to the leadership of the National Assembly and resolve the matter amicably. It was unanimously believed at the meeting that the emergence of leaders of the two chambers of National Assembly is with the blessing of the President.”

“It would appear that the National Chairman has made up his mind not to work harmoniously with President Asiwaju as he repeatedly keep disputing decisions he has made towards constituting his government.

“We, therefore, distance ourselves and the NWC from such actions that clearly undermine the smooth take off of the APC federal government under the leadership of President Asiwaju and call on the National Chairman to desist from such action.”

NASS principal officers: APC governors disagree with Adamu, describe comment as ‘unwarranted’

Following a statement made by the National chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on the selection of principal officers at the national assembly on Tuesday, governors under the platform of the party described the comment as “unwarranted” outburst of the chairman.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reported earlier that Adamu expressed his disappointment over the selection of principal officers both in the Red chamber and the Green chamber
by the Senate President, Godwilll Akpabio and speaker house of representatives, Abbas Tajudeen respectively.

Adamu said during a meeting with the National Working Committee, NWC, and Progressives Governors Forum PGF, at the party’s Headquarters, that the party was not consulted in the selection of the Senate majority caucus leaders for the tenth National Assembly.

According to the Chairman, “I am just hearing as a rumour now from the online media that there have been some announcements in the Senate and House of Representatives.

“The national headquarters of the party and the NWC has not given any such information or communicated about the choice of offices.

But reacting to the Chairman’s comment during the closed-door meeting with the governors, a source at the meeting said efforts by Hope Uzodimma, PGF chairman to douse the import of chairman failed as the governor of Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago cautioned the chairman of dissociating the NWC from the emergence of the principal officers of the National Assembly.

Bago was quoted to have said that the emergence and zoning of positions of the principal officers were reached after wide consultations with critical stakeholders of the party, including the NWC and wondered why the Chairman will back out after the officers have been announced on the floor of the National Assembly.

He further said that the Presidency was equally informed. Adding that all critical stakeholders were adequately carried along before the zoning was reached.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Imo state governor faulted the national chairman position, saying that the leadership of the legislative houses enjoys the support of APC governors.

“Chairman never said that they are on their own. The National Assembly leadership belongs to our great party and they are members of our party, they are members of our party and they enjoy our support.

“If there is any way that there is a communication gap anywhere, we will make it up and we have our internal mechanism of resolving such things. The National Assembly leadership enjoys the support of the Progressives Governors Forum and our party. We don’t have any problem at all.”

Governors at the meeting include Hope Uzodimma (Imo); Yahaya Bello (Kogi); Abdulrahman AbdulRasak (Kwara); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti); Rev. Adamu tasks APC Governors on adherence to party manifesto

Meanwhile, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the APC National Chairman has charged governors elected on the party’s platform to adhere to its manifesto.

He gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja, when the party’s governors under the agies of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) met with the National Working Committee (NWC).

“For us, anything that we will want to say to you is adherence to the manifesto as much as you can.

“We have a general framework for the governance of the country and you represent those who fly the party’s flag.

“It is expected that whatever you do, you will have in mind the manifesto that the party gave the country, as Chief Executive Officers of states, you must key into this manifesto.

“But there are peculiarities, there are priorities you must have set and you are bound to do as much as you can to meet the expectations of those who voted for us,” Adamu said.

He said the party and the country generally were in a very difficult moment, adding that the governors had visited at a very difficult period with regards to the lifting of the fuel subsidy.

Adamu said the period would be very challenging, particularly to the governors because they were where it matters most.

“From national politics, you are the shock absorbers in the various states of the federation, you live with the people, you wake up with them and you work with them.

“The expectation is that you could have a better appreciation of their pains as citizens of this country. So, a lot of expectations will be on you as governors of the Federating units of this great country,” Adamu said.

He assured that the party’s leadership would continue to give the governors the needed cooperation.

“If you have any problem, turn to us and we will give you the best advice as we can, but whatever we do with you, you are the one wearing the shoes and know where it pinches,” Adamu said.

Speaking to newsmen at the end of the meeting, Gov. Hope Uzordimma of Imo said the governors were committed to the party’s idea and manifesto and the Federal Government under it.

He noted that everything contained in the party’s manifesto during its campaigns were meant to be done and carried out.

On the removal of fuel subsidy as announced by President Bola Tinubu in his inauguration speech, all presidential candidates during the campaigns committed to remove fuel subsidy.

“The immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari before he left, made us to know that fuel subsidy is no longer sustainable. What we are talking about now is the implementation process,” he said.

He assured that the incumbent government of President Bola Tinubu was working out ways to implement the fuel subsidy removal to cushion the effect on the people.

“I have confidence in the ability of current president to navigate through the waters and take decisions that will be in the best interest of our people and the country as a nation.

On the leadership of the incoming 10th National Assembly, Uzodimma said Tinubu had not made proclamation for its leadership to be inaugurated.

Some of the governors at the meeting were Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Abduallahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Mohammed Bago of Niger and Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State.

Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Nasir Idris of Kebbi and Gov. Dapo Abiodum of Ogun was also at the meeting among others

  • Why we are waiting for Tinubu on 10th NASS leadership – APC National Chairman

Why we are waiting for Tinubu on 10th NASS leadership – APC National Chairman

Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the APC National Chairman, says the party will liaise with the President-elect Bola Tinubu about the 10th assembly leadership.

He said this on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen at the end of a four hours closed door meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.

“When we do the zoning meeting, we don’t just go alone as a party, zoning is to take along the person who has the mandate of this country, the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinibu.

“We want to take him along, he travelled out of the country after the election and he came back only last week and we have to carry him along,” he said.

Adamu added that the party would not interfere in any interest canvassed in choosing the persons to lead the two chambers of the assembly; whether its on zoning or individual interest.

He said that the party had to, however, find a way of persuasively reaching some level of consensus.

“That is what we are working on. It is not a one day affair, ” the APC national chairman said.

Also speaking, Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said the party was united behind Adamu in spite of speculation of crisis within its leadership.

He added that genuine issues raised by some of the party’s members were being looked into by w NWC.

On issues of zoning the leadership position of the incoming 10 National Assembly, Morka said the party was not in a hurry to arrive at such decision.

“We looked at some internal and domestic house keeping matters with a colleague that you know who has expressed his concerns about something he believes the party should be doing.

“We deliberated completely about it, and as we speak, a committee that was set up to complete that conversation is in progress,” he said.

He said the committee would fully rectify all issues and offer final recommendations on the subject to the party’s leadership.

“The party stands completely united behind the leadership of our National Chairman, Adamu, and we are all standing together.

“The concerns raised by our colleague is being looked into, and I think in due course, we will have very specific conclusions of those concerns,” he said.

Morka explained that zoning was a mechanism by which the party was able to make decision, saying it afforded those interested in competing for political positions to do so with a minimum rift or rancour.

“There is no timeline to that, we are not in a hurry. We want to do it right,” the APC scribe said.

He added that zoning required very exhaustive consultation not just of the party’s leadership, but also of those who were aspiring.

This, he said, was critical to ensure that whatever formula the party came up with would be acceptable with minimum friction.

“It is important that the consultation is done, and done properly, that is what is going on right now,” he said.
