Court dismisses Northern APC suit seeking Ganduje’s removal as national chairman

Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has dismissed a suit seeking the removal of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The suit instituted against Ganduje by the APC North Central Group was thrown out on Monday by the Judge on various grounds.

Among others, Justice Ekwo held that the APC North Central Group is not a juristic person having not been registered in law and therefore has no legal power and capacity to file the suit.

The Judge also held that the plaintiff failed to explore the internal mechanism for peaceful resolution of issues before rushing to court.

Besides, Justice Ekwo held that the appointment of officers for APC by its National Executive Committee is an internal affair of the party which no court can dabble into.

The Northern Central APC Group had dragged Ganduje, APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC before the court praying for nullification of Ganduje’s appointment by the APC on the ground of gross violations of the party’s Constitution.

Specifically, the North Central APC group claimed that the appointment of Ganduje breached Article 13 of the APC Constitution because it was not done through a democratic process enshrined in the party’s law.

The plaintiff, the North Central APC Forum led by Saleh Zazzaga, had filed the suit to query the propriety of Ganduje’s appointment as the National Chairman of the APC when he is not from the North Central geo-political zone, whose turn was to fill the position.

In the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, the plaintiff listed Ganduje, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as the 1st to the 3rd defendants respectively.

The plaintiff in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, asked the court to, among others, restrain Ganduje from further parading himself as the chairman of the APC.

It also prayed the court to issue an order directing INEC not to accord recognition to all actions taken by the APC, including congresses, primaries and nominations, since Ganduje became APC Chairman on August 3, 2023.

The plaintiff contended among others, that Ganduje is occupying the office of the APC chairman illegally, not being from a state in the North Central geo-political zone.

It argued that the APC’s National Executive Committee, NEC, breached the party’s constitution when it appointed Ganduje, from Kano State in the North West geo-political zone to replace Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the North Central geo-political zone.

It also argued that Ganduje’s appointment to replace Abdullahi was contrary to Article 13.5(1) f of the APC constitution and ultra-vires the powers of the NEC of the party, among other prayers.

Justice Ekwo while dismissing the suit, however, held that there was no cause of action against the defendants since the plaintiff has no power under any known law to Institute any case in any Nigerian court.

Ganduje doesn’t need distractions- Governor Sule warns critics

Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule, has warned against unnecessary distractions by some members of the party against the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According Sule, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) do not need distractions at the moment.

The governor who paid a solidarity visit to the APC National Chairman Friday at the party’s national secretariat, said Ganduje has experience and the capacity to lead the ruling APC.

He said Ganduje deserves respect and deserves all the cooperation especially at a time like this.

“I am a governor that this same National Working Committee worked very hard to ensure that I continue as a governor. They were there with me during the elections, they were there with me during the legal matters, they did not rest until I got my own victory. So, this is my house.

“I feel highly elated that I am even receiving a special reception for coming to my house. But then, it is a wake-up call for all of us, because we the governors should continue to visit our house as regularly as possible so that we are not seen as visitors.

“I am here also to pay my respect to a man that deserves respect, to our national chairman, Dr. Ganduje. He deserves respect and deserves all the cooperation especially at a time like this. In the next couple of weeks, we have an election in Edo. So the man does not need to be distracted in any other way so that we can go and win our election in Edo and that is one of the reasons why I came to encourage him to be focused.

“In reality we have issues here and there. One of the places we have issues is the North Central. I am the chairman of the North Central governors forum, and in the North Central, we have a state where there are issues and we had lengthen discussions also on that. We want him as well as the National Working Committee to intervene and make sure that we resolve those issues.

“North Central has five out of six APC governors. So for that reason, we need to strengthen our zone. We cannot afford any kind of disagreement in our zone. And I have no doubt that if there is any gentleman that can work to resolve that matter, it’s a man who has been in several positions. A deputy governor, a governor, a chairman, in fact so many other positions that he has been.”

Kano suffered worst corruption under Ganduje – Gov Yusuf

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has alleged the State was hit by one of the major grand corruptions above any other State in the country when Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje governed the State.

Yusuf made the allegation on Saturday at a capacity-building workshop on the principles of anti-corruption organised for civil servants in the rank of director in the State.

According to him, Kano was hit by one of the major grand corruptions above any other state for eight years when Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje governed the state from 2015 to 2023.

Represented at the occasion held at Dawakin Kudu Local Government by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, the governor said corruption has undermined the progress and development of the nation and no one was in doubt.

“Kano State in particular has suffered and experienced one of the major grand corruptions perhaps above any other state in this region over the past eight years.

“Our investment and state assets as the region’s center of commerce were hopelessly and fraudulently sold and those who acquired them are initiators and executors of the whole process.

“Most of those investments managed by Kano State Investment and Properties have both proceeds and the property gone back to the same people.

“Our infrastructure suffered years of neglect occasioned by multifaceted problems we are battling with after assuming office,” he lamented.

The governor disclosed that even the revenue generation aspect was bedeviled by leakages for the benefit of a few to the detriment of the state’s collective interest.

According to him, heavy corruption during the Ganduje administration plunged the water resources sector into decay when he took over the reins of power, resulting in hardship even with the loan of six million Euros purportedly spent in that sector.

  • Why Anambra guber election in 2025 is crucial to us – APC National Chairman

Why Anambra guber election in 2025 is crucial to us – APC National Chairman

Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the 2025 Anambra governorship election is crucial to the party and the Federal Government.

He said this on Wednesday in Abuja at the inauguration of Anambra Consultative Council, adding that the state deserved to be at the mainstream of the country’s politics.

“I believe the meeting is part of the strategy by the state APC to re-organise and unite our party members in preparation for the forthcoming 2025 governorship election.

“I also believe that the strategic nature of Anambra in the South East, and by extension Nigeria, makes it expedient for the state to join the centre.

“Therefore, I am convinced that these men and women attending this meeting have the capacity and ability to deliver Anambra in the incoming election.

“We cannot continue to allow Anambra to remain on the sidelines of Nigeria’s politics, hence the need for all to work in unison for the actualisation of this mission,” Ganduje said.

He said the commitment and sincerity of purpose of the stakeholders would naturally attract support which would act as a strong motivation towards winning the state.

While stressing that the stakeholders should get to work, Ganduje urged the council to support the party by ensuring the creation and hosting of regular activities in the state.

He explained that the more the party hosted activities and programmes in the state, the more enlightenment and awareness it would create.

This, the APC national chairman said, would increase the capacity of the stakeholders to mobilise and galvanise membership for the party.

“I beckon on all to come out strong and support the repositioning of this party, for the overall interest of members, and the betterment of the people of Anambra,” he said.

He thanked Basil Ejidike, the state chairman and his executive for initiating the high-standing stakeholders meeting, saying it would help re-organise the APC in Anambra.

Ganduje stressed the importance of unity as the most potent tool for the sustenance of such stakeholders.

He added that the party in Anambra could only succeed if critical stakeholders and others bonded together in unity.

“Just like the party’s logo, the broom, a united body can never be defeated, your strength and success are inherent in your unity.

“Therefore, I encourage you to be united to achieve the set goal. I extend the party’s hands of fellowship and support to all stakeholders in Anambra,” Ganduje said.

He assured that the party’s national leadership would continue to support the APC in Anambra ahead of the state’s 2025 governorship election.

Earlier, Ejidike, Anambra APC chairman said the newly inaugurated council was comprised of distinguished elders and leaders of the party with vast knowledge and experience in party politics

Ejidike while noting that the APC under Ganduje’s watch had showed remarkable growth and development said the council was geared towards the growing and strengthening of the party in Anambra.

He appreciated members of the council for accepting to serve the party, saying, they demonstrated unequivocal commitment, loyalty and love for APC and Anambra.

He assured them that APC Anambra was continually on the march to prosperity, saying it would not rest until it achieved its mission.

He said the mission was to reposition and make a mark in the line of service to the people of Anambra.

“Actualising this mission of the party is majorly dependent on this Consultative Council. The party, with the inauguration holding today, has entrusted the role of driving this ambition on you.

“Let us all work hard to put our party on the path of progress, and thus bridge the gap in governance in Anambra.

“Together, we will certainly build a solid platform for the actualisation of this collective and long desired ambition,”the APC Anambra chairman said.

Mr Nze Duru, the party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary in his remarks, said the Anambra APC was united contrary to speculations.

Ganduje reacts over Anyim’s defection to APC

Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the defection of Sen Pius Anyim to the APC, as “a huge blessing”.

Ganduje’s excitement was captured in a statement by Mr Edwin Olofu, his Chief Press Secretary.

The statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, quoted Ganduje as saying that Anyim’s wealth of experience would be beneficial to the APC.

Ganduje had earlier received Anyim, who defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), into the APC at a ceremony in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi capital.

“I’m elated to receive such an important personality into our party.

“I want to assure you, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, that you are welcome to the largest political party in Africa.

“Be assured that we will give you equal opportunity like old members of our party so that you can come to the table with your huge experience and followership,” Ganduje had said.

The APC leader said that the South-East geo-political region could not continue to be in the opposition, urging the region to join mainstream politics.

APC begins moves to de-marginalise Igbos – Ganduje

Meanwhile, the National  Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, has said the party has initiated moves to de-marginalise Igbos to place them in the limelight of national politics.

Ganduje made the assertion on Sunday during the APC South East zonal meeting in Abakaliki, noting that Igbos had shown massive support to the party and the President Bola Tinubu led administration presently.

The APC national chairman said that though a line must be drawn between marginalisation and low performance of the south east in the APC, the party had decided to break the vicious cycle of marginalisation.

“The present appointments offered the zone by President Bola Tinubu’s administration is heartwarming and with more involvement in the party’s affairs, more would be achieved.

“We must break this cycle of marginalisation with determination, unity and total support to the party and President Bola Tinubu led administration, he said.

He noted that Ebonyi had followed Imo’s trail in massively promoting the party’s activities and thanked Gov. Francis Nwifuru for sustaining the party’s ideals in the state.

“The challenge before us presently is how to claim Anambra, Enugu and Abia and must get all stakeholders together to achieve this goal.

Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi thanked the party’s leaders for honouring the meeting in the state noting that the party is presently rooted in the state and south east.

Nwifuru noted that Ebonyi had a policy of inclusiveness which had made all stakeholders in the state to be presently under the APC roof.

“The massive defection of opposition stakeholders to APC on July 13  attests to the fact that persuasion works more than bickering and fighting,” he said.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo in his remark, said it is an ugly coincidence that the APC is ruling Nigeria in these hard times  occasioned by the world economic meltdown.

The Chairman of the South East Governors Forum said that many citizens of the country experience excruciating hardship with some going into penury.

“People have to know that there is global economic meltdown with some currencies exchanging 15,000 and 20,000 to one dollar.

“I however, have hope that if the tested policies of President Bola Tinubu administration, are well implemented, Nigerians would receive the much needed succour., he said.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu in his remarks, urged people of the south east zone to identify with the federal government’s efforts to de-marginalise the zone.

“President Bola Tinubu has given Ndigbo more than the vote cast for him during the elections.

“It is presently left for us to repay him for his good works because when ones shows appreciation, he gets more,” he said.

He noted that the president offered Igbos lucrative positions in his government as high- ranking ministers, deputy speaker of the house of representatives among others.

“The process for the south east development commission bill which would solve the numerous challenges confronting  Igbos, has been finalised and awaiting the president’s accent , he said.

Emirship tussle: How Ganduje’s actions assaulted 1000 years of Kano history, culture – Sanusi

Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has stated that the former governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, assaulted the state’s history and culture.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor opened up on the controversies surrounding his removal by the past government as well as his reinstatement by the current administration in the state.

Speaking during a recent interview with some select journalists in Kano, Sanusi, who was recently reinstated as the sole Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf, said what is going on in Kano is not about him as a person, but about It is not about the history and culture of the people of Kano.

His words: ”When you take the larger picture, this is a kingdom that has existed for over 1000 years. If you go to the king’s list in Kano, the king’s list from Baguada starts in 999 AD. We have a list of kings. From Baguada up to me in my first term, I was the 57th. If you add my cousin and myself, I’m 57th and 59th.

”In that period, we’ve had the expansion of Arewa kingdom. The only time a part of Kano was taken out was when Jigawa State was created because Jigawa State put together Kazaure Emirate, Hadejia Emirate, Gumel Emirate, but those three combined were not big enough to make a viable state. And Hadejia and Gumel people wanted a state. So, part of Kano was carved out. These are the two emirates of Dutse and Ringim.

”We were all hurt. As a family, it was like cutting off a part of you. At least Ringim is still with members of our family. That’s fine. It was necessary.
But what was left still remains what has been there for a thousand years.

”Now, just like the British partitioned Africa, you divided what had existed over a period of time. People need to understand what this government did because people don’t understand what that law was and the kinds of damage it did to our history’s fabric.

”You know, the way the Europeans came and just drew lines on a piece of paper. People say Nigeria is a geographical expression. People are talking about that. You just take people, and this is, they just came and drew a line; these nine local governments go there.”

  • Your desperation to destroy my legacy in Kano will fail – Ganduje blasts Governor Abba Yusuf

Your desperation to destroy my legacy in Kano will fail – Ganduje blasts Governor Abba Yusuf

The Senior Special Assistant to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman on Public Enlightenment, Chief Oliver Okpala has slammed the Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf Kabir saying his desperation to destroy every legacy of his predecessor in the state will fail.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Chief Okpala said, “Every government in power has its own leadership style. If this is the style Governor Abba Yusuf wants to adopt for Kano, it is left for the people of Kano State to judge if what he did is just and is in their interest.

“Government is a continuum. When Ganduje was in power, he did his best and the people of Kano State can testify to that. He left some legacies that cannot be equaled. What Ganduje has done in Kano cannot be destroyed overnight by political malice from any quarter. This is because what he left in Kano are monumental legacies.

“So for somebody to wake up overnight and try to destroy or dismantle all the legacies left behind by predecessor is, to say the least, a kind of disservice to the people of Kano State. But if he says that is the leadership line his government wants to toe, it is left for him. The people will at a later stage judge between him and Ganduje, which one meant well for them.

“Those also clamouring for Ganduje’s removal claiming to be representing the North Central are agents of the NNPP mobilised and induced financially to execute their plan to undermine the name, honour and integrity of Dr Ganduje.

“When the real leaders and stakeholders of the North Central led by a former President of the senate paid a solidarity visit to the party headquarters and asked Ganduje to continue in office most of these political mercantile agents were not seen because they are inconsequential in the political equation of North Central politics.

“The leaders said though the slot was zoned to them, they however asked Ganduje to continue in office because of the excellent ways he was piloting the affairs of the party.

“When that took place in broad daylight, nothing was heard from these political lilliputians, so nobody should be left in doubt that their actions are in justification of the money they were given to prosecute the ‘Ganduje -must- go agenda.

Chief Okpala lambasted former National Vice Chairman of the party, Salihu Lukman for being a meddlesome interloper in the affairs of the APC.

“A similar issue that should be brought into focus is that of a former National Vice Chairman of the party who had resigned his position in the party and he is now threatening to take the APC to court if Ganduje is not removed.
And one wonders under which platform or locus he wants to prosecute his case? This is someone who on daily bases, abuses the government of the day, of his supposed party on national papers, discrediting the leaders and he still wants the leaders to listen to him.

“One wonders what he forgot in the party that he wants Ganduje and the party leaders to pay him for. People should please allow the party and the leadership under Ganduje to breath since they are doing well and winning political heavy weights from other parties because of their performance.

“Ganduje from all indications means well for the party and he is working tirelessly to ensure the APC occupies an olympian position in the country’s orbit of partisan politics. He will not be distracted”

  • Ganduje told to resign as APC national chairman

Ganduje told to resign as APC national chairman

The Forum of Stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has advised the embattled National Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Ganduje, to resign from the position.

Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central Chairman of the forum, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, in Jos.

Zazzaga said the calls from different quarters for the removal of Ganduje from office, and his insistence on retaining his position spelt doom for the party.

He querried the decision of party’s stakeholders from the North-West, who passed a vote of confidence on Ganduje, insisting that such decisions would only throw the party into serious confusion.

”There have been several votes of no confidence passed on Ganduje; from his Kano Ward, as well as other protests, litigations, among other agitations against him.

”But his insistence to remain in office will only take the APC backward and tear the party apart.

”Ganduje already has a lot of issues surrounding him, and the best thing for him is to quit so that he doesn’t cause any harm or constitute a legal liability for the party,” Zazzaga stressed.

According to him, the position of the national chairman of the party should naturally go to the north-central region, and called on the party to consider zoning it to the region.

”Based on party arrangements, someone from north-central should have replaced the former national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, not Ganduje who is from the north west.

“In the spirit of fairness and equity, the chairmanship position should be occupied by someone from the north-central region.

”We are also part of the ruling party and have played a key role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu,” he maintained.

Zazzaga was a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the last general election.
