    Former Kano governor, Ganduje asks court to stop EFCC from probing him over dollar video

    The immediate past Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje has asked a High Court in the state to restrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from probing him.

    Ganduje is seeking an order that will protect him from EFCC’s investigation of videos, which showed him allegedly receiving stacks of dollars from a contractor.

    The Kano House of Assembly, in response to outrage, constituted a committee to investigate the alleged bribery but yet to submit its report.

    Ganduje wants the court to declare that the interrogation of the ex-State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman and ex-Accountant General, in connection to the video, illegal.

    The former governor’s suit, filed by the Attorney General in his administration, relied on Sections 1 (1) of the 1999 constitution.

    It stated that since the state lawmakers already probed the clips pursuant to its powers under section 128 of the 1999 constitution.

    Ganduje wants a declaration that there is a pending case (No: CV/1598/2021 between him) Jaafar Jafaar & Anor, before a FCT High Court in which he is challenging the authenticity of the video.

    “The defendant cannot exercise its investigative powers under the sections 6, 7 and 13 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004 (CFCC ACT), until after the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (Coram: Hon. Justice Y. Halilu), has decided the matter before it,” the suit reads.

    The video was published by Daily Nigerian in 2018 and after threats of incarceration, the Publisher Jaafar Jaafar and his family fled to the United Kingdom.

    Newly sworn -in Governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, rejected the seat used by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje upon assumption of office on Monday.

    Minutes after his inauguration Yusuf was ushered into his office amid heavy security but he didn’t sit in the official chair used by his predecessor.

    In a viral video, the newly sworn-in governor was seen opting for an unofficial smaller seat as he prepared to give an address.

    After he was declared the winner of the last governorship election, Yusuf vowed to review some of Ganduje’s policies.

    The governor had vowed to probe the N241 billion debt inherited from Ganduje’s administration.

    Gov Ganduje set to hand over power today, to attend Tinubu’s inauguration

    Outgoing Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State will today perform the official handing over of the affairs of the state to the governor-elect, Malam Abba Yusuf.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the outgoing Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, on Sunday in Kano.

    Garba said that the event is billed for 9 p.m on May 28 at  the Government House, Kano.

    According to him, the state Government Transition Committee has communicated the development to the Transition Committee of the governor-elect.

    Garba pointed out that the two committees have met within the week during which a handing over document was presented to the governor-elect’s committee and also worked out a harmonised agenda on the handing over ceremony.

    The commissioner explained that Ganduje would shortly after the event depart for Abuja as head of Kano delegation to the inauguration of the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu on May 29.

    He added that the governor’s departure was also necessitated to beat the deadline for the closure of Nnamdi Azikwe Internation Airport, Abuja, for the presidential inauguration.

    Garba called on people to continue to pray for peace and development of the state.

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Monday ordered all Public Officers holding political appointments to handover affairs of their offices in line with established procedure.

    The directive is contained in a  statement  titled “Handover of Activates” from the office of the Secretary to the State Government and signed by permanent secretary Hajiya Bilkisu  Maimota.

    The governor directed all Commissioners, Special Advisers, chief Executives of Parastatals/Government owned-Companies and other political appointees were to handover to the permanent secretaries and Director Administration and general services in their respective establishments.

    The governor directed that all government properties in  possession of the appointees be handed over to Permanent Secretaries or Directors Administration & General Services/Directors Personnel Management (DPM) as the case may be latest by May 26.

    The governor also directed them to make copies of their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for records,” said the notes.

    Leading aspirant for the Speakership seat of the House of Representatives, Hon Muktar Aliyu Betara remains unbeatable in the race for the Speakership of the House of Representatives.

    A member of the House of Representatives, Hon Mohammed Gudaji Kazaure in a goodwill made this known during the unveiling ceremony of the Speakership aspiration of Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

    He described Betara as a man with tremendous goodwill that could easily sweep the race for the Speakership of the 10th Assembly.

    The Jigawa born politician recalled that Betara singlehandedly influenced the votes that led to the emergence of Yakubu Dogara and his successor, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila as Speakers of the House of Representatives in the 8th and 9th Assemblies.

    He maintained that Betara who chairs the House committee on Appropriation remains indispensable as far as the race for the speakership of the 10th Assembly is concerned.

    He advised Gagdi to strike a deal with Betara to decide on which of them would succeed the outgoing Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

    He said: “The truth is Betara is the major contender in this race. If he is with Gagdi, he would win 100 percent. They understand each other. They Know each other. Betara is a good man, he is a very gentleman who is always calm and silent. The only thing with him is that he doesn’t know how to say no.

    “For me, we need a Speaker who would say no. I advice members to vote for Gagdi. I am planning to go and meet Betara and tell him to come and join Gagdi. Betara deserves the Speakership seat which he is now trying to take.”

    Kazaure who warned the APC leadership against imposition of Speakership candidate on the House described Betara as the father of the House that is well liked and admired by the entire members of the House of Representatives.

    Gov Ganduje begs for forgiveness as 2-term tenure ends

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has begged for forgiveness from those he might have offended in the course of governing the State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ganduje spoke at a Ramadan lecture series at Al Furqan Juma’at Mosque located at Nasarawa GRA, Kano.

    The governor said he has forgiven those who wrong him and they should reciprocate same by forgiving him.

    “I’ve forgiven anyone who at one time disparaged my person and my character for whatever reasons, and on my part, I equally beg or seek for your forgiveness for all that I’ve done wrong to you,” Ganduje said.

    He said the inspiration was drawn from the position of Islam, adding that “as espoused by the leader of this Mosque, forgiveness occupies a prime spot in our religion”.

    “My tenure as governor of Kano state has come to an end, and this is a farewell greeting. I wish you all the best.

    “For those who we have wronged, forgive us, on my part I’ve forgiven those who wronged me no matter the weight of the offence.

    TNG reports Ganduje’s two-term tenure of eight years as the chief helmsman of  Nigeria’s most populous state tick to an end on May 29, 2023.

    He is expected to hand over reign of power to the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party’s governor-elect, Abba Kabiru.

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Monday began distribution of palliatives to residents of the state to douse the effects of naira notes scarcity.

    Ganduje, who spoke during the distribution of palliatives at the Government House, said:”we didn’t invite this situation, neither did we pray for it.
    ”We don’t welcome it at all. We gave similar palliatives during the COVID-19 days.

    ”Today our citizens are being faced with COVID-23 caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
    ”We earlier thought it was a simple disease, but unfortunately it turned out to be a very serious virus.

    ”This virus which came from the CBN has affected all our commercial banks, our POS, our ATM machines and all other things associated to this,” he said.

    ”We will not stop blaming the CBN for this economic blunder. We love our people. Therefore anything that will disturb their wellbeing must be rejected.

    ”Our candidate Sen. Bola Tinubu has promised Nigerians that when he is elected in the forthcoming election, he will make sure that he puts a stop to the current hardship.

    The governor said that Kano being the most populous state in the country, is the most affected by the unfortunate development.

    He said that beneficiaries of the palliatives are from all the 44 local governments areas of the state.
    Ganduje daulted those supporting the hardship caused by ‘ill-timed Naira redesign in the country.
    He described the development as unfortunate.

    Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has alleged Mr Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is fighting back with the Naira redesign policy.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Governor Ganduje made the allegation in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar.

    Ganduje alleged the untimely implementation of the Naira swap policy was deliberately done by Emeifiele as a fighting back strategy for failing to get the presidential ticket under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

    “The CBN Governor is only doing this to cause confusion in the forthcoming elections for no just reason. He has not been in good mood for long, because he failed to secure the presidential ticket on the platform of our great party, the APC,” Ganduje said.

    Insisting that the Kano State Government and APC in the State are totally against the action of the CBN Governor, the Kano State Governor said “currency redesign is done across the globe, but not in the way we are witnessing in our country. The timing is wrong, the deadline given is very wrong and deliberate”.

    Meanwhile, Anwar in the statement revealed part of the measures taken by the State Government to cushion the effects of the hardship caused by the Naira swap.

    “We will summon bank managers very soon to interrogate the shortage of new Naira notes in banks. They should come over and explain to us, why our people are still suffering over this issue of Naira Swap. And I will go to them individually to supervise what is happening and why.

    “We have a plan in the pipeline to start distributing palliatives very soon across all the 44 local governments, to cushion the effect of the hardship caused by the CBN Governor, to our people,” the statement reads.

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Saturday unveiled the State Anthem to inculcate patriotism and discipline among the citizens.

    Ganduje, who spoke at the inauguration of the State Anthem in Kano, reiterated the readiness of his administration to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the people of the state.

    “We will dutifully and jealously protect and preserve our good name and the excellence we have recorded in business and scholarship” he said.

    The governor applauded his wife, Hafsat Ganduje, for her ingenuity in kick starting the process that culminated to the development of the State Anthem.

    “I am glad to see that, my dear wife, initiated the idea of the state Anthem, which has now come to fruition. She did well hence our commendation on her.

    “We are here to show love for our state, our culture, our costumes, our history and to appreciate our state in general.

    “Ours is to promote love, deep sense of responsibility and to also show the greatness of our dear state.

    “As our national Anthem is bringing us together for the service and unity of our motherland, so also this state Anthem will follow the same pattern at the state level,” he said.

    According to him, the state government will transmit the State Anthem to the State House of Assembly for appropriate legislations.

    “Whenever we have any public function, after singing the National Anthem, the State Anthem will always follow,” he said, adding the Anthem would showcase how the state excels in commerce, traditional leadership, scholarship, agriculture and hospitality.

    Why we advised Tinubu to pick Muslim running mate – Ganduje

    The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has opened up on why the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu was advised to pick a Muslim as his running mate.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State had picked the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

    The development had sparked outrage among the Christian community in the country.

    Ganduje, who addressed journalists at the Unguwar Sabo Juma’at Mosque in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday said Tinubu was advised to pick a Muslim running mate in order to reduce the special priority given to religion in Nigerian politics.

    He said rather than religion, the major concerns of Nigeria are economy, employment, and other developmental issues.

    “We advised him (Tinubu) to pick a Muslim as his running mate to end the religious consideration shown in Nigeria’s politics.

    “We, northern governors stand firmly that a presidential candidate must come from the South so as to do away with all these differences,” Ganduje said.
