  • Buhari hosts Sierra Leonean President in Abuja

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday hosted his Sierra Leonean counterpart, Julius Bio, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

    That was the first time Bio would be visiting Nigeria after his recent election.

    The two leaders discussed issues of mutual benefits for their countries at a meeting held behind closed doors.

    Bio told State House correspondents at the end of the meeting that they both agreed to strengthen ties for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

    The visiting President disclosed that issues concerning security, trade, health and movement of people were discussed at the meeting.

    Bio said he was in Nigeria to appreciate the support of Nigeria to Sierra Leone during its difficult times and its recently held election.

    He said, “Nigeria and Sierra Leone are two sister countries that have enjoyed a great relationship spanning over several years and this relationship has been tested severally.

    “I came today to express our country’s gratitude to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for standing by us during our time of need, when we had the civil war.

    “This is my first time in Nigeria after I was elected. I am here on this courtesy call to renew our bond of friendship and to see how we can deepen this relationship which is mutually beneficial.”

    Bio said the two leaders were concerned about the recent outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

    He added that preventive measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

  • BREAKING: Osinbajo meets aggrieved nPDP members in Abuja

    Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is currently meeting members of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party.

    The meeting is holding inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

    It will be recalled that members of the nPDP had recently protested what they called their nationalisation in the ruling All Progressives Congress among other allegations.

  • Lady murdered in Abuja after firing guard, driver

    A woman identified as Onise Ismail, has been murdered by an unknown assailant at her residence in Citec Estate, Mbora, Jabi bypass, Abuja.

    The deceased, popularly known as Ize, was reportedly stabbed several times in her chest and in the neck till she gave up the ghost.

    According to a report by The Punch, she was buried on Sunday amidst wailing by her family and friends who thronged the cemetery in Abuja.

    Ize, who was living alone, was said to have fired her driver and gateman a week before her brutal murder.

    The Punch further reported that the incident occurred on May 14, 2018 when the woman who was said to be in her late 20’s stepped out of the house to put on her generator due to power outage.

    It was gathered that her attacker struck in the night when he knew she would be alone in the house.

    A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that after stabbing her to death, the assailant dumped her body in her room and ransacked the house for valuables before fleeing.

    We learnt that a neighbour heard her pleading with her assailant not to kill her, but he (the neighbour) was too scared to intervene. By the time he went to check on her, she had given up the ghost and her assailant had fled. The yard and the room was soaked with the blood of the deceased,” the source narrated.

    It was gathered that detectives had commenced investigation into the homicide and a number of suspects had also been arrested.

    When contacted, the Federal Capital Territory Police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, promised to speak on the development but he had yet to respond to phone calls and text message as of the time of filing this report.

    JUST IN: EFCC arrests 6 notorious Abuja yahoo boys

    Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested six suspected internet fraudsters also known as yahoo yahoo boys in one of their hideouts in the Kubwa area of Abuja.

    TheNewsGuru reports the suspects are Ihoeghian Aghasomwan, Precious Osarumen, Enabulele Osazee Frank, Osahon Scott, Efe Ehieorobo and Peter James.

    The operation, which was carried out in May by the Advance Fee Fraud Section (AFF) of the Commission through a sting operation, followed an intelligence report on the activities of the fraudsters.

    “Surveillance was carried out and the identity and location of the fraudsters who specialize in defrauding innocent citizens both within and outside the country through internet was identified,” the EFCC said in a statement.

    On the arrest, some of items recovered from the suspects include – one Toyota Camry 2009, 10 laptop computers, 4 ECOWAS International passports, 17 mobile phones, 2 flash drive, HP printer and Certificate of Award of Asian Professional Security Association in favour of Sun Yaje.

    Also recovered was a traveling bag and air piece check-in bag suggesting Abuja as its destination dated March 19, 2018 labelled with two paper clearance certificate of Custom Controlling Department, International Affairs China, No: 00548 and TDK courier service worldwide express service shipment details with track No: ME103178131.

    The EFCC said “All the hardware and digital devices recovered from the suspects would be subjected to forensic examination”.

    “The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded,” the Commission added.

     

  • El-Zakzaky: Police arrest 60 Islamic Shiite protesters in Abuja

    Following protest by the Islamic Shiite sect on Monday the federal capital territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 60 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

    TheNewsGuru reports the Shiite protesters to the streets of Abuja, defying warning from the police to stage a violent protest demanding release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been detention since 2016.

    The spokesman of the police in the FCT, DSP Anjuguri Manzah confirmed the arrest to newsmen in an interview on Tuesday at the Garki Hospital.

    Manzah was in the hospital to see how the two personnel of the command, who sustained varied degree of injuries while dispersing the protesters were recuperating.

    They are SP Linus Ogah, who had bruises on his face and could hardly speak or open his eyes, and Insp. Mary Ameh, who sustained injury in one of her hands.

    The spokesman said that bullet had been removed from Ameh’s hand, adding that the protesters also destroyed some police operational vehicles.

    “During the Monday protest, members of IMN or otherwise known as Shiites engaged police and haul stones at police personnel deployed to disperse them.

    “They also smashed some vehicle glasses parked around the Federal Secretariat,” he said.

    On April 16, the police had arrested 115 members of the sect when they embarked on a similar violent protest to demand that their leader be freed.

    Manzah, who said that though citizens had right to protest, advised that they should do that in a “civil manner’’ and not disturb public peace.

    He said that the command had taken proactive measures to check violent protest in the territory.

    VIO to shut-down unauthorised car marts in Abuja

    The FCT Directorate of Roads Traffic Services (DRTS) also known as Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), says the agency will close down unauthorised Car Marts in the territory.

    The Director of VIO, Alhaji Wadata Bodinga, disclosed this when the FCT Task Force Head, Mr Kenneth Iloduba, visited his office in Abuja.

    According to a statement signed by the directorate’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Kalu Emetu, on Friday, Bodinga, while addressing the task team said the directive of the FCT Secretary of Transportation must be fully achieved.

    “The directive is aimed at bringing sanity to the transportation sector as far as transportation service is observed in every city,” he said.

    He said that the management of DRTS would not watch car dealers take over every space within the FCT displaying vehicles, thereby creating unnecessary traffic within the territory.

    Bodinga further said that unregistered car marts companies should desist from displaying cars in any part of the FCT.

    “It is the responsibility of the Directorate to give permission for any automobile business within the FCT,” he said.

    The director warned that anyone operating illegally was doing so at his or her own risk.

    Iloduba assured the Director of maximum cooperation and enforcement.

    He said the availability of logistics for the operation would aid them to “swing into action”.

    The FCT Secretary of Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa, had earlier directed car marts companies operating in unauthorised areas to relocate on or before March 5.

    Opeifa reported that personnel of the directorate and other relevant task forces had mobilised to ensure compliance.

    President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to inaugurate Nigeria’s first seven-star apartment hotel, the Fraser Suites, located in the Central Business District, Abuja on May 9, 2018, at an exclusive guests-only ceremony.

    He will be supported by members of the diplomatic corps, heads of international multilateral agencies, regional bodies and international non-governmental organisations accredited to Nigeria.

    Imam Imam, the late spokesperson to the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has been buried in Abuja.

    Imam died Friday morning at Nizamiye Hospital Abuja after a brief illness. He was buried at Apo Cemetery after funeral prayers at An Noor Mosque, Wuse 2, Abuja.

    Some of those who attended the funeral prayer include Senate President Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, APC National Vice Chairman, North West, Nuhu Ribadu and others.
