I hope France win the World Cup – AC Milan coach, Pioli

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli admits he’s supporting France at the World Cup.

Milan pair Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez are key players for France’s World Cup run to the quarterfinals.

“I hope France win the World Cup and I am cheering them on to go all the way, because I support my players,” he said when receiving the Gigi Simoni award for fair play and sportsmanship.

“That’s the only rule really, otherwise they’re in trouble!”

Thiago Silva explains how Chelsea will stop Leao and Giroud

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is wary facing AC Milan’s attacking players for tonight’s Champions League encounter.

Thiago Silva expects to be tested by the likes of Rafael Leao and former Blues teammate Olivier Giroud.

He said: “The forward line of AC Milan is very impressive, and the way they perform means tomorrow it is going to be a very difficult match. It will be difficult for us to defend. For sure, with Leao, we’ll have to be very focused and make sure he can’t get the ball. If those players give him the ball, they will be dangerous because if he gets the ball, they can score, and it’s not only him because Giroud is in the box.

“So it is a challenge and difficult forward line. It’s not going to be easy, but that is why we have to be focused. Theo is a very good player, one of the best in the side right. He is also very good at defending. We have to be careful of the whole squad because a good team is not only one, two, three good players.

“It’s the whole squad who work well, so we have to be focused on all of them.”

Reece James toughest player I’ve faced, says Rafael Leao

AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao admits he was amazed by Chelsea fullback Reece James during last week’s Champions League clash.

James scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 win on the night in London.

Leao told Somtosport: “James is a good player, he was all over me and everywhere at the same time, he timed his runs very fine.

“I hardly talk about opposition players but this guy is actually the toughest I have faced I think.

“He scored a goal too against us and that’s something you don’t get from every defender. We just have to focus and finish in a good position now because the competition was never expected to be easy. We slipped and we won’t let that hold us back, we will work harder for the next games.”

“Chelsea are a great team, with good players,” he told Sportmediaset.

“We are focused on our game and we know we will be up to the task if we play as we know.

“They have one point but are still a strong team.

“It’s going to be a tough match because they have valuable players, but we also do and of course, I hope we can win.

“I am excited and happy to return to Stamford Bridge, I want to help the team earn three points.”

Asked if he’ll celebrate if he scores on the night, Tomori replied: “We’ll see…”

Ronaldo liked women and parties – Fabio Capello

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello says offloading Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario sparked their amazing comeback for the 2006/07 LaLiga title triumph.

Ronaldo was allowed to leave for AC Milan that January.

Capello recalled: “The decision to fire Ronaldo and sign (Antonio) Cassano helped create a winning spirit in the team.

“We won nine points back from Barcelona in the final stretch of ten games and I’m still proud of that today. I remember Silvio Berlusconi calling me to ask me how was Ronaldo.

“I told him that he didn’t even train and that he really liked parties and women, so hiring him for Milan would be a mistake.

“The next day I saw the newspaper headlines: ‘Ronaldo in Milan’. It was a lot of fun.”

Capello also said at the Festival dello Sport in Trento: “What is beauty in football for me? Scoring after three passes, for example. Beauty is also getting the result based on the players you have at your disposal. Beauty is also the sudden genius of footballers like Messi, for example.

“Two players who embody beauty: Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi, because they transformed difficulties into easy things. They had personality and they transmitted it to the public, they managed to make an impact.”

Pioli’s medal stolen after AC Milan’s first title win since 2011

After AC Milan secured their first Serie A title in 11 years, head coach Stefano Pioli was left with pleading for the return of his winner’s medal.

This was after he claimed it was stolen amid the presentation ceremony.

The Rossoneri got their hands on the Scudetto for the first time since the 2010/2011 campaign courtesy of a 3-0 win at Sassuolo.

Olivier Giroud bagged a brace and Franck Kessie was also on the scoresheet.

Pioli was the figurehead behind AC Milan’s 19th top-flight title, with his former side Inter Milan settling for second in spite of their own 3-0 win over Sampdoria.

But the 56-year-old Pioli has now had a sour end to the day.

“They snatched my medal in the celebrations: if you can make an appeal I thank you, it is the only one I have,” said Pioli.

Ivan Perisic opened the scoring at San Siro for Inter Milan while Joaquin Correa struck twice more.

They helped wrap up a three-goal second-half blitz in eight minutes, but it was insufficient as they stayed two points behind Pioli’s side.

Matteo Politano, Piotr Zielinski and Diego Demme all scored in the first half as Napoli rounded off a season in which they finished third.

They were nine points ahead of fourth-placed Juventus with a 3-0 win at Spezia.
