Chelsea defender completes £25m move to AC Milan

Fikayo Tomori has completed a £25 million ($34m) move to AC Milan from Chelsea, with the Italian side having exercised their option to buy the defender on a permanent basis.

Having impressed during his time on loan at San Siro, the Canada-born England international has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Rossoneri.

Tomori becomes Milan’s second signing of the summer, with Mike Maignan having joined from Lille to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“AC Milan is delighted to announce the exercising of the option for the permanent transfer of Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola Tomori from Chelsea,” a statement from the Serie A side reads.

“The English defender, who made 22 appearances and scored one goal over the last season, will continue to play with the club until 30 June, 2025.”

Chelsea’s official website added: “Fikayo Tomori will complete a permanent transfer from Chelsea to AC Milan on 1 July.

“The defender spent the second half of last season on loan with Milan, but will make that move permanent next month after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.”

PSG a good move for Italy goalkeeper – Mancini

Italy coach Roberto Mancini says Paris Saint-Germain is a good move for Gigio Donnarumma.

Donnarumma is leaving AC Milan for Paris.

“I don’t know what will happen, as I haven’t talked to hm about it,” said Italy boss Mancini in his press conference today.

“Donnarumma is a great goalkeeper. If he were to go to PSG, it would be a good choice, as this is a big club.”

Italy are next in Euros action against Switzerland.

AC Milan goalkeeper informs teammates he’s leaving

AC Milan teammates know Gigio Donnarumma will leave the club this summer.

MilanNews reports Donnarumma informed the players of his decision after victory over Atalanta secured Champions League qualification.

The Italy goalkeeper is off contract at the end of next month.

Milan have already moved to replace Donnarumma with Lille keeper Mike Maignan in the city and undergoing the second stage of a medical this morning.

Tuttosport says agent Mino Raiola rejected the Rossoneri’s offer of €8m a season and wanted €10m for Donnarumma.

Raiola was also demanding €15m and €20m for Donnarumma to sign the deal with the Diavolo.

Juventus, AC Milan qualify for Champions League, Napoli miss out

Juventus qualified for the Champions League on the final day of the season on Sunday with a 4-1 win at Bologna and were joined by AC Milan who beat Atalanta 2-0.

Napoli had to settle for a Europa League spot, finishing fifth one point behind Juventus, after a 1-1 draw at home against Hellas Verona.

A pair of Franck Kessie penalities at the end of either half ensured AC Milan finished the season second — 12 points behind city rivals Inter Milan — and return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.

Atalanta have also booked a place in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the bench by Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo who opted for an attacking line-up of Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata flanked by Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski.

A Morata brace along with goals from Chiesa and Adrien Rabiot prevented Juventus missing out on the elite European competition for the first time since 2012.

In Naples, Amir Rrahmani scored for Napoli after an hour against his former club

But Marco Davide Faraoni pulled one back immediately for the visitors nine minutes later to deny Gennaro Gattuso’s side a return to elite European action after also missing out last season.

Serie A: Lazio needed victory against AC Milan – Immobile

Ciro Immobile hailed Lazio’s attitude for their 3-0 defeat of AC Milan.

The striker was again on the scoresheet for Monday night’s win.

“This was our last chance, we were up against a team that had a great season and needed to shake things up, especially after the defeat to Napoli,” Immobile told Sky Italia.

“We still have some hope of the Champions League places and we won’t give up. It’s true we will have to win them all and hope some of the others slip up, but we want to enjoy ourselves all the way to the end.

“I’m happy with the goal and also the assist for Tucu. I’ve been playing with Correa for a long time now and we complete each other, but the same is true of Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.”

I want to keep Chelsea defender – AC Milan coach

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli says they want to keep on-loan Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori.

For victory at Parma, Tomori was again impressive and the pressure is on for Milan to activate the purchase clause from Chelsea.

Pioli said, “He has made a wonderful impact and settled in so quickly, he has other characteristics of pace and of playing out from the back that can certainly improve us as a team.

“He is a player who is certainly giving us a lot and the intention is to keep him.”

Tomori’s loan includes a permanent option of €30m.

Serie A: Ibrahimovic ready to sign new AC Milan deal

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ready to sign a new deal with AC Milan.

The veteran striker’s current contract expires at the end of this season.

And TMW says Ibrahimovic has now agreed terms with Milan management about a new deal for next term.

The Swede will ink a one-year contract.

And it’s suggested an announcement regarding the agreement will be made this week – possibly as early as today.

We considered signing Ibrahimovic – Bayern chief

Bayern Munich supremo Uli Hoeness admits they’ve considered signing AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the past.

The Swede and Milan are set to enter new contract talks, with his current deal expiring June.

Asked if Bayern would be interested, Hoeness ruled out a move, but revealed they’d considered the centre-forward in the past.

“He’s a great player,” said Hoeness.

“But his salary expectations were also out of reach. We were interested once, but didn’t even get to the main course.”

  • Diallo scores as Manchester United draw with AC Milan, Spurs and Arsenal win

Diallo scores as Manchester United draw with AC Milan, Spurs and Arsenal win

Teenager Amad Diallo found the net with his first-ever shot for Manchester United on Thursday but AC Milan struck in injury-time to secure a 1-1 draw in the Europa League.

The match was one of the competition’s last 16 first leg ties.

Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur meanwhile tuned up for their meeting in Sunday’s north London derby with comfortable wins.

Arsenal won 3-1 at Olympiacos, while Spurs were 2-0 winners at home to Dinamo Zagreb.

The 18-year-old Ivorian Diallo joined Manchester United from Atalanta in January and scored in his second substitute appearance with a clever back-header five minutes after his half-time introduction.

AC Milan had two goals disallowed early on but Simon Kjaer’s last-gasp header ensured parity going into the second leg.

Manchester United and AC Milan have been continental champions 10 times between them but must currently make do with Europa League football.

But both sides are on course to return to the elite UEFA Champions League next season even if they trail their respective derby rivals Manchester City and Inter Milan domestically.

“We are working to grow and bring AC Milan back where we belong,” said coach Stefano Pioli. “These are the best games in that sense. So, I was happy to face a team like Manchester United.”

Manchester United returned to action after the high of their weekend derby win over Manchester City but were flat until Diallo scored shortly after the restart.

Bruno Fernandes chipped over the defence and Diallo reacted superbly to loop a header over Gianluigi Donnarumma for his first professional goal.

The youngster was signed for a reported 37 million pounds (51.7 million dollars) having played less than 90 minutes of senior football.

“He’s a great young lad and did really well after he came on,” Manchester United’s Harry Maguire said of Diallo.

“He obviously got the goal which was great to see. He did well and hopefully there’s a lot more to come from him.”

Manchester United’s best chance of the first half fell to Maguire who struck the post at a corner-kick after AC Milan dominated the early stages.

Rafael Leao’s opener for the guests was rightly ruled offside and Franck Kessie’s fine strike suffered a similar fate for handball after video review.

AC Milan finally had a goal count two minutes into injury-time from Kjaer’s header at a corner-kick which left goalkeeper Dean Henderson looking poor.

“We’re very disappointed to concede with one of the last kicks of the game,” Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said later on.

“That makes it harder of course, but it was always going to be down to the second game there anyway.”

Harry Kane struck in either half, for a season tally of 26, to boost manager Jose Mourinho, who could still salvage a positive season for his Spurs side.

They have recently fallen down the English Premier League (EPL) table.

They are seventh, five points off the UEFA Champions League spots, but going into the derby seven clear of Arsenal, who have only the Cups left to look forward to in their campaign.

“We had some ups and downs in the season but we come into an important period now and it is good to feel the players are ready to help the team,” said Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

“If we work well as a team, we will give our talent more power to make the difference.”

Olympiacos’ Youssef El Arabi equalised Martin Oedegaard’s opener, but Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny struck late to secure the away win.

The Greek side eliminated the Gunners from the competition last season with a thrilling comeback in London in the last 32 and must now undertake a similar task.

“It is a big win for us, a great result with three goals away from home and a win in this competition is always good,” said Odegaard.

“We have a big game on Sunday and then have to be ready for next Thursday.

“It is very important, we are not where we want to be in the league so this is very important for us and a chance to get UEFA Champions League football next year.”

Ajax, another former European champions, beat Switzerland’s Young Boys 3-0 while Villarreal are almost through after a 2-0 win at Dynamo Kiev.

Fellow Spaniards Granada could continue their maiden European campaign into the last eight having beaten 10-man Molde 2-0.

Roma are also well placed, having thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0.

Steven Gerrard’s new Scottish champions Rangers meanwhile will welcome Slavia Prague in the only return leg which starts all-square next Thursday after a 1-1 draw in the Czech Republic.

Chelsea players tell me they’re happy – AC Milan defender

Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori says he is getting the impression his teammates are happy with Thomas Tuchel.

Tomori is at AC Milan for the rest of this season.

His side will take on Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday in a first leg round of 16 clash.

The Englishman is keeping tabs on the situation at Chelsea, where Tuchel has taken over from Frank Lampard since the centre-back left on loan.

“Obviously I’ve spoken to people at Chelsea. They’re not only team-mates, they’re also friends so we all check up on each other to see how we’re all doing,” he told reporters.

“A lot of the time we’re not talking about football but about general life.

“The mood in the camp there from what I understand is good. A lot of them are playing games, scoring goals and playing well so I’m sure it’s all going well.”
