    24 escape death as trailer loaded with cows kills 3

    Three persons lost their lives while 24 others were hospitalised in an accident involving a trailer loaded with cows along Kalgo-Jega road in Kebbi.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the loaded trailer was heading to Lagos from Birnin Kebbi when the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon.

    An eyewitness, Malam Saidu Ibrahim, told NAN that the accident was as a result of tyre burst.

    He said the trailer which was also loaded with other goods and passengers somersaulted when one of the tyres burst.

    “The driver suddenly lost control of the trailer while he was trying to stop it when the tyres burst. The driver cabin got separated from the main body and rammed to the ground,” he explained.

    The Public Relation Officer of Federal Roads Safety Corps in the state, Abdullahi Muhammad, confirmed the accident, saying the injured were rushed to the Medical Centre, Kalgo.

    “Three persons died on the spot while 24 others were rushed to the hospital; we have also recorded the death of seven cows.

    “It happened when the driver of trailer lost control of the vehicle following tyre burst,” he said.

    A yet to be identified male adult was said to have died on Saturday in an auto crash imvolving an articulated truck along Mobolaji Bank Anthony way in Ikeja, Lagos.

    The truck, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), was carrying a 20 feet container.

    LASEMA General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, who confirmed the incident, said that the container fell on a car, trapping the deceased in the process.

    He said that the man died before help could reach him.

    He said: “Upon arrival of the LASEMA Response Team (LRT) at the incident scene, it was observed that a multiple accident involving a 20 feet container fell off its flat bed on two cars on Mobalaji Bank Anthony way by NITEL Bus stop. One adult male sustained serious injuries and 1 adult male was trapped dead.

    “The trapped victim was extricated and bagged by the LRT. However the affected vehicles and container had been recovered also and subsequently taken to Lastma yard, Oshodi. The road is now clear for vehicular activities,” he added.

    Immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, was on Wednesday involved in an auto accident on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos

    According to his aide, Lere Olayinka, the accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon.

    His condition is currently stable and he has received medical attention.

    Olayinka posted the news of the accident via a tweet that read: “Immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose was involved in auto accident on 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos few minutes ago. He is in stable condition as I write while he is receiving medical attention”.

    Big Brother Naija star Kelvin Brouillette, popularly known as K.Brule, was on Sunday involved in a car accident which landed him in a hospital.

    K.Brule narrated the incident in a post on social media network, Instagram, on Wednesday, adding that the accident was caused by a tyre blowout, and according to witnesses, he caused it.

    “On Sunday morning the 4th November at around 6 am my car experienced a blowout instinctively causing me to apply the brakes, which is the last thing I remember,” he wrote.

    “Eyewitnesses say my vehicle spun out and somersaulted over a road divide into oncoming traffic where I was struck by another vehicle causing my car to flip multiple times back across the road divide. Luckily no lives where lost but both vehicles are total write-offs.

    “I praise & thank God for being faithful & sparing our lives.

    “Due to the nature of the crash, the blame falls on me. & I have no idea how I will pay the damages and hospital bills for the other party as I’m currently owing my own hospital but at least I’m alive to worry about these things.

    “Please keep me in your prayers during these trying times. I may be hard to reach for a while as my phones were destroyed in the crash.”

    Six die in Enugu-Abakaliki Road accident

    The Ebonyi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that six persons died in a road mishap that occurred on Friday at Ezzamgbo end of the Enugu–Abakaliki highway.

    Mrs Stella Uchegbu, FRSC Sector Commander in Ebonyi, told the News Agency of Nigeria that two buses were involved in the accident.

    Uchegbu said that the command’s rescue team moved to the scene of the accident immediately they received a distress call about the incident.

    She said, “28 persons, comprising 21 male and seven female passengers, were in the two buses but four male and two female occupants died on the spot.”

    The FRSC boss said that nine passengers who sustained injuries were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for medical treatment.

    She said that the remains of the dead passengers were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

    She attributed the accident to “speed violation,” adding that the two vehicles had a head-on collision.

    Uchegbu said that one of the buses, marked ‘Peoples Choice’, was from Taraba, while the second was a Mitsubishi L300 bus.

    She admonished motorists to obey traffic regulations at all times in order to curb road mishaps, especially during the ’ember months.’

    An eyewitness said that residents of the area rushed to the scene and immediately commenced rescue operation before the arrival of the FRSC team.

    Accidents occur regularly at this end of the Expressway. It took the timely intervention of FRSC team and a handful of sympathisers to rescue the victims.

    We learnt that most of the passengers were students of a private university in one of the South-south states, said to be returning from a trip.

    We appeal to the relevant authorities to take measures to check the incessant accidents on this part of the highway,” the eyewitness told NAN on the condition of anonymity.

     

  • Accident: Marcopolo bus collides truck along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, 9 feared dead

    No fewer than nine persons were feared dead on Tuesday in an accident involving a Mercedes-Benz Marcopolo bus and an Iveco truck at Aseese area on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
    Mr Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the figure to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta.
    Oladele said that the accident was caused by speeding by the driver of the bus marked SMK 867 XG.
    He said that the bus lost control and collided with the parked truck with registration number AAA XP at 5:30am.
    “A total of 42 persons were involved in the accident; they comprised 34 males and eight females.
    “Three male and two female adults were injured while seven male and two female adults died,” he said.
    The sector commander told NAN that the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital while the corpses were deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital mortuary, Sagamu, Ogun.
     

  • Tragedy as three APC council chairmen die in Saudi Arabia’s accident

    The Hajj Commission in Zamfara on Friday confirmed the death of three local government chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state in an auto crash in Saudi Arabia.

    The Public Relations Officer of the commission, Malam Yakub-Yahaya Talata-Mafara, confirmed the death to the News Agency of Nigeria in a telephone interview.

    Talata-Mafara said that the accident occurred around 3.00a.m on Friday, while they were travelling from Makkah to Madina, Saudi Arabia.

    According to him, the victims are six local government chairmen of APC from the state.

    “Three of them died, while three others are receiving treatment at Saudi Arabia Hospital,’’ Talata-Mafara said.

    He said that remains of the deceased were under the custody of the Saudi Arabian authorities where they would be processed for burial.

    “Hajj officials of the Zamfara contingents are making the necessary documentation to join the Saudi Arabian authorities in order to give the deceased befitting burial,’’ he said.

    Reacting, the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Lawal M-Liman, described the death as a great loss to the state and Nigeria as a whole.

    M-Liman described the deceased as loyal members of the party who had been in good relationship with their communities.

    A young man of about 30 years on Tuesday survived a ghastly and terrifying motor accident in Delta state.

    TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports the accident occurred on the NPA expressway in Effurun.

    The vehicle splitted into two halves from the force of collusion with a palm tree with the young man in the front side neatly strapped on the driver’s seat.

    According to eyewitness, the young man walked out miraculously without any assistance to the Navy hospital adjacent to the point of the accident.

  • Three burnt to death, five severely injured in Kogi accident

    Three people were burnt to death and five others injured in an accident on the Zariagi-Lokoja highway in Kogi State.

    The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Bisi Kazeem, who confirmed the development, said the incident occurred early on Thursday.

    He explained that nine people and three vehicles–Toyota Carina, Scania Truck and Mack Tanker–were involved in the accident.

    Kazeem said that one person escaped the accident, which he blamed on over-speeding unhurt.

    “The deceased were burnt alongside the vehicles, while the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja.”

    He said that an FRSC rescue team, which arrived at the scene after the accident had embarked on removing the wreckage from the road.

    The Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway is classified among the deadliest road corridors in Nigeria.

  • Accident kills 11, injures 16 in Niger

    No fewer than 11 people were feared dead in an auto crash involving a bus, Toyota Corolla and a Hilux van on Ibeto/Kontagora Road in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger on Tuesday.

    Malam Abdullahi Ibrahim, Federal Road Safety Corps Unit Commander in Charge of Kontagora, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kontagora on Tuesday.

    Ibrahim said that 27 people were involved in the accident, 11 died on the spot while 16 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

    He said that the bus was heading toward Kebbi, while the Toyota Corolla and Hilux were going to Kontagora.

    He added that the accident was caused by wrong overtaking and speeding.

    He said that bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue in Kontagora General Hospital, while the injured were receiving treatment in the same hospital.

    The unit commander cautioned motorists against reckless driving, especially during the sallah celebration.
