Olaniyi Afonja a.k.a Sanyeri is a popular comic actor in the yoruba movie sector of Nollywood. He is known for the humorous roles he plays in movies. Speaking in an interview with Punch, he said his wife doesn’t have issues with his female fans, adding that she has never fought them.

Hear him:”My wife has never fought any of my fans, whether male or female. Even when we travel abroad and some fans ask me to sign autographs on some parts of their bodies, she would encourage me to do so. Some of them would even hug and kiss me in her presence but she doesn’t mind. Even when street urchins accost me, she encourages me to give them money”.

On how he met his wife, the dark skinned actor said he met her at a movie premiere. According to him:”I met her in 2004 when I want to screen my movie, Okan Emi, at the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos. She came there to have a good time. I sighted her and her friend from afar. I walked up to her friend and told her I liked her friend but she said I should tell her myself. So I went to her and told her I would want us to get closer but she replied that was it because I just shot a movie that made me think I could ask her out. Afterwards, she walked away. After that day, I saw her about a month later and I requested for her number. Even then, it took me a while to convince her to date me”.

  • ‘The problems celebrities face are caused by journalists’-Odunlade Adekola

‘The problems celebrities face are caused by journalists’-Odunlade Adekola

When you are looking for a versatile Nigerian actor, look in the direction of Odunlade Adekola. Over the years, Odunlade has become one of the sought after actors in Nollywood.

The outspoken actor stated that most of the problems celebrities experience in their careers are caused by journalists. Speaking in an interview with Punch he said:” I don’t think there’s any actor that wouldn’t have scandals; though I don’t even know what scandals mean. We are all humans and are prone to mistakes. I would really like it if you can put it down exactly as I’m going to say this. Most of the problems artistes have are caused by journalists. Some journalists don’t do adequate findings before writing their stories. And it is very difficult to correct the perception of people about you. Many people form an opinion of entertainers simply by what they read about them in the media. And some of these reports may even be false.

“Even if we have grown thick skin towards these things, what about our children? Journalists have damaged the careers of lots of entertainers. Meanwhile, some journalists are also guilty of what they accuse entertainers of doing. We know some of them but we cannot just mention names. I believe it is better to call whoever is doing wrong to order instead of writing a damaging report about the person. As for me not having scandals, I can only give glory to God for my life”

  • ‘We need to appreciate veterans’-Lari Williams

‘We need to appreciate veterans’-Lari Williams

Veteran actor and playwright, Lari Williams, has appealed to the Federal Government to do more to immortalize artistes and other citizens who made the country proud.

Williams, who will soon celebrate 50 years as an artiste, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

Fondly called ‘Uncle Lari’ by his colleagues, Williams expressed dissatisfaction that some Nigerians who distinguished themselves internationally, were not immortalized.

“The first Nigerian world boxing champion, Hogan Bassey, who died in 1998 after breaking world records in England and America, who knows where his grave is?

“Others such as Dick Tiger Ihetu and Fela Sowande, died and were buried in America. Who knows their graves?

“Professional actors who left the shores of the country such as Orlando Martins, England’s top 15 favorite actors in 1947 and Hollywood’s first Nigerian actor who died in 1985, who remembers him?

“Pa Benedict Odiase, who composed the second Nigerian Anthem in 1978 but died at age 79 in 2013, was never rewarded, except with the Order Of the Niger (OON).

“Let us appreciate our own veterans; if we don’t encourage the past, we don’t remember the present; so how can we assist the future,’’ the septuagenarian urged.

The thespian, who studied theatre arts in the United Kingdom, said people from different parts of the world still visited and laid wreathes on the grave of English playwright, William Shakespeare, who died hundreds of years ago.

“Can this be done in Nigeria?

“There are so many talents in this country; if we don’t train them and encourage practitioners, we will not have a hope of encouraging future aspirants,” he said.

Williams said that encouraging personalities in the entertainment industry would boost the economy.

“Entertainment and tourism are playing a pivotal role in the nation’s economy just like in countries in Europe and the Americas.’’

He, however, thanked the government for conferring on him Member of the Federal Republic years ago. Williams also appealed to theatre practitioners to make themselves relevant by producing worthy films and music that would make much impact.

  • Many were surprised to see me laying hands on people- Majid Mitchel

Many were surprised to see me laying hands on people- Majid Mitchel

Handsome Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel is an evangelist aside from being known as an actor. The award winning thespian has disclosed that many of his fans were shocked when they saw him praying and laying hands on people. He made this known in his chat with Unfilteredng, an Instragram platform where Christians share their grass to grace tales.

According to him:” I was born catholic. I grew up in a catholic home and went to a catholic school and church. I got baptized and was confirmed but I never understood a word in the Bible. Growing up, it was very difficult to understand the things I read. When I was 14, I went to church and fell under the power of the Holy Spirit and started speaking in tongues. I began to read the Bible. I received a revelation of God’s word and started understanding things about Jesus on my own. This happened quickly. After my revelation of the kingdom of God, I decided to share my faith with my friends at the office. Everyone I met, I shared with. The funny thing is they all connected to me. They kept telling me to have a YouTube channel where I could share, but I refused and said I was still in the process of learning. I remember preaching at a very small church.

“We (Timothy Bentum, Pascal Amanfo and I) decided to pray for the congregation one by one. As I laid my hands on people, they fell under the power of the spirit. Then the news came out that Majid is a pastor because they were surprised to see me laying hands on people in church. How does an actor pray for people and then the spirit manifests? So, that’s how the news came out. But before this, we had been to Uganda, Cameroon and Kenya to preach the word of God.

“Since then, the Lord has been sending us to places to do his work and it’s been good. We have surrendered completely to the Spirit of God. We don’t go to places with the enticing words of man’s wisdom, but rather with demonstrations of the power of God”.

“Some actors are unknown, yet already packaging”- Bolanle Ninolowo

Bolanle Ninolowo is the new hunk in town, getting roles and showing that you can be talented and hot. The British returnee who has starred in movies like Husbands of Lagos isn’t happy with the way some of his colleagues carry themselves in Nollywood.

Speaking on what he doesn’t like in Nollywood, Bolanle condemns actors who are unknown but already believing their own hype. He made this known in a recent chat with Goldmyne Tv.

“Work your own journey that is what I see. A lot of people have so much fear in them and they are so competitive. Without understanding that everybody has a unique gift and a niche they could carve .

You need to ask God what you are made for. A lot of people are in this industry and they are not even supposed to be there.I used to run a record label, I spent 30million on it and I didn’t make a dime from it. After that I cried to God, got back up and asked him what is next for me.He said : “Go back to Nollywood, try again”. A lot of actors are nobody and they are already packaging. For who ? How can you want to grow and you already packaging, saying this is who I am” he said.

  • “My wife is comfortable with me kissing in movies- Ramsey Nouah

Nollywood hunk, Ramsey Nouah is an award winning actor known for his excellent role interpretations. The actor with a myriad of female admirers revealed that his wife is comfortable with him kissing in movies. He made this known in a recent interview.

In his words:”When some people ask me “how does your wife cope when she sees you kissing other women in the movie?” and I tell them that my wife is special.
She is not an ordinary woman. She understands things in a way many other women don’t. That is why I say, an actor or actress, has to find that special person. It is not love that will bond you. Forget love, love dies. What sustains the marriage is companionship. If you cannot find companionship in your partner from the beginning, then you do not have a partner.

He also advises singles on the qualities to look out for in a life partner.

“Don’t lust after a woman because of her beauty and don’t lust after a guy because he is handsome. You must lust after the companionship that bonds you together. It should be like “for some reasons you cannot do without her; for some reasons there is something about her that brings you home”.

“It may be her sense of humour; or the way she keeps the home. Same thing applies for the ladies; there must be something about him that you cannot do without. If this quality is not there, then you don’t have a companion.”
