Sad! Actor stabs neighbour to death over electricity bill

Budding Nollywood actor, Temitayo Ogunbusola, has allegedly stabbed his neighbour, Oladotun Osho, to death following a disagreement over the payment of electricity bill.

The sad occurrence happened on Sunday at No. 4 Sebil Kazeem Street in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

Temitayo was said to have been beaten to a pulp by a crowd before the intervention of policemen from the Ikotun Police Station.

The remains of the victim were deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

Trouble began when a resident of the house, one Banjo, demanded the payment of the electricity bill from the other occupants.

However, Temitayo was alleged to have refused to pay his share of the bill, which led to an argument between him and Banjo.

The suspect was said to have in a fit of anger taken a dagger with which he threatened to stab Banjo.

Punch reports that Oladotun, who was coming into the compound with his brother and friend, saw Temitayo, who was searching for Banjo to stab him.

When Temitayo could not find his target, he allegedly directed his aggression at Oladotun and stabbed him in the chest.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest of the stated that Temitayo was beaten by a mob and he needed to be fit for trial before he could be charged.

He said, “The report we got was that there was a misunderstanding between two neighbours and one stabbed the other and the suspect narrowly escaped mob action because of the timely intervention of the police.

“He is in our custody. The DPO reported the matter to the command headquarters, but the suspect was battered by the mob and we cannot detain him like that; so, he has to be treated under guard. He cannot stand trial the way he is. As soon as he is fit to stand trial, he will be in court.”

It is wrong to believe actresses are richer than actors- Abiodun Adebanjo

Abiodun Adebanjo is one Nollywood hunk making waves in the Yoruba sector of the movie industry.

The rising actor popular who starred in movies like Sonate, Basira Badiya, Wale Danger and others said it is wrong to believe actresses are richer than actors.

He told TheNewsGuru: “When people say actresses are richer than actors, It is wrong because you don’t know our account balance. You can’t expect me to show off the way a lady will show off. This is showbiz, I might not do that. It’s a false idea to think actresses are doing well than actors. We are all doing well. There are two sides to a coin. The person you see living the flashy life on social media, you don’t know their account balance. Most practitioners in the industry have side businesses, since the government isn’t supporting. We are spending more than we earn. The expectation is generally high. Even though it’s a ‘Waka pass’ role you played in a movie, hoodlums will still want to get money from you when you step out. I know actresses and actors that are doing well. We just need to stay true to ourselves”.

On how he copes with the attention he gets from female fans, Adebanjo said: “The only thing I tell people is that it’s been God. In everything I do I ask God for divine intervention and mercy. You cannot do without female fans. They are the salt of this earth. At the same time, one has to be careful. I just try as much as possible to stay away from the bad ones and be friends with the good ones. I get weird messages from some of them from time to time. You hear things like: ‘You are my crush, can we hangout?’ .I try as much as possible not to smell what I won’t eat”.

Adebanjo added that people in the diaspora underestimate Yoruba movies.

“A lot of people in the diaspora think less of Yoruba movies. I hear comments like they are tired of the same story line. Some of them complain about our movies having the same story with different title and the same cast. This motivated me to produce my own movie, hinting that we still have some good movies and good producers. I just wanted to do something different. In every sector there are quacks and there are experts. We have some quack producers and we have some others who are good. It’s a 50-50 thing. There are movies you would watch and critique, while there are some you would watch and won’t even stand up while watching them”.

Treat women better-Mofe Duncan tells Nigerian men

“The woman came out of a man’s rib, not from his feet to be walked on, and not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal.

“They should be under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved.

“Why did the bible say, “husbands love your wives” and not the other way around? THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND? Men generally need to treat women better, period,” he wrote.

  • The only thing I regret is my tribal mark- Olaiya Igwe declares

The only thing I regret is my tribal mark- Olaiya Igwe declares

Veteran actor, Ebun Oloyede a.k.a Olaiya Igwe has declared that he regrets having a tribal mark. He noted that having tribal marks is an uncivilized act.

Speaking in a chat with City People, he said:”Tribal mark is not a culture. It is an uncivilized act. It is not a DNA, because as at that time they believed it is Yoruba DNA. It is very easy to recognize one another outside that you are from the same compound, but who told them that I belong to their family or part of their family? It is only my mother that can tell if I belong to the family or not. What if my pregnancy belongs to her concubine, but she brought it to my father? Which is very possible then, and there was nothing like DNA test to check the true paternity of a child then. Look at our father, Alaafin Oyo, a very handsome man even with his tribal mark, though some of his children have tribal marks, but what about the grandchildren? None of them has a tribal mark. That is to tell you that tribal is not our tradition, it is not our culture, because if it is, somebody like Alaafin Oyo should keep and promote the custom till date because he’s our father. If it is our culture then it shouldn’t have disappeared from the palace; it shouldn’t have been erased from the palace. It is purely an act of wickedness. Thank God for civilization that completely erased it. If it is something important or part of our culture, all my 7 children should have it because I have it”.

Speaking further, he noted that Nigeria doesn’t appreciate entertainers, adding that it is difficult for him to celebrate his 40 years on stage anniversary.

“I feel so happy and excited. Though at times, I still feel bad because of the country I found myself; a country that doesn’t appreciate artistes; a country that doesn’t see artiste as somebody they need to appreciate or recognized; especially by our government. We are just trying, patching everything up, but we still have to thank God. If by now I have a jet, or you point to a jet and they said it belongs to Ebun Oloyede, I deserve it considering my input so far.

I formed my own theatre group; Olaiya Films Nig. Ltd., in 1979, about 40 years ago. It is very difficult for me to say I want to celebrate 40 years on stage because of the present situation, but like I said, I still have every reason to thank God, at least I’m still alive”

  • Nollywood diva Monalisa Chinda harps on actors’ welfare

Veteran Nollywood actress, producer and TV personality, Monalisa Chinda, has called for improved welfare and better working environment for Nigerian actors.

She made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

According to the thespian, Nollywood has contributed tremendously to Nigeria’s economy and placed the nation in an enviable position on the global stage, adding that its key players need support and enabling environment to strive.

She stressed the need for a comprehensive health insurance cover for actors and the provision of welfare package for them.
Chinda added that piracy should be effectively curbed by relevant authorities for industry players to reap the reward of their works.

The actress disclosed that she was set to run for the position of Public Relations Officer of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) at the guild’s 2019 election slated for Oct. 31 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

She explained further that her decision to seek election into the AGN leadership team was for her to champion the call for an enabling environment and welfare for actors.

“I want to see how I can work hand-in-hand with the president to get a better health Insurance scheme for actors.

“This issue of coming on social media and begging for money, it works me up, and I am not the type of person that likes to just sit down and keep quiet.

“We expose our respectable actors that they need N5,000 to treat cough is quite embarrassing, and we need to do something.

“I will use my voice in a subtle way not to attack anybody but to sound my displeasure on some of these things,” she said.

The actress who was once embroiled in alleged tax evasion saga, said as a law-abiding citizen, it was her civic obligation to pay tax and had resolved everything.

She, however, called on industry stakeholders to always fulfill their civic responsibilities to government even as they call for support and enabling environment.

“There are no excuses when it comes to your obligation to the state, anywhere you live and work there are the laws that are binding on you in the state, we must pay our taxes.”

NAN reports that Monalisa, known for the 1996 acclaimed movie ‘Pregnant Virgin’, became very popular in the industry in 2007 when she started appearing in the television soap “Heaven’s Gate”.

She debuted in 2011 as Executive Producer in the Royal Arts Academy movie, ‘Kiss & Tell’, which Emem Isong co-produced with her and was directed by Desmond Elliot.
