  • The story behind my ghastly accident- Victor Olaiya

Budding Yoruba actor, Victor Olaiya has shared the story behind the ghastly accident that nearly took his life. The handsome actor recounted his near-death experience adding that he almost lost his eye sight.

Olaiya said:“My auto accident story was very horrible. I was coming from a movie location at Agbado crossing area of Lagos state.

I was going for another production meeting at Agege and suddenly, a motorcycle rider crossed my car recklessly. In an attempt to avert a head-on collision with the motorcyclist and save his life, I swerved my car off the road and accidentally rammed into an electric poll beside the road. The impact of the smash was devastating. Immediately, I lost consciousness, only to wake up on the hospital bed after some hours. I thank God I’m alive today with my two eyes because the accident nearly made me blind”

The talented actor noted that it was a good samaritan who took him to the hospital when the accident occurred.

“I was later told that a good Samaritan took me to a nearby hospital with the help of the producer of the movie I was actually going meet. He said they immediately took me to the hospital. I can’t really remember the name of the hospital I was taken to because I was unconscious. All that matters to me then was my sight. I spent just 3days at the hospital and the accident only affected my face. My sight regained strength and I can see clearly now.”

Unknown to many, the multitalented entertainer has experienced his own fair share of struggles and scars. RMD, as he is fondly called by his fans, marks his 56th birthday today and took to his Instagram page to reminisce on his life’s journey so far.

Hear him: “Nobody wey nor fit to make am o” is the apt theme song for my life as I celebrate my 56th birthday today. From Welfare Road Warri, Delta State to the Silver Screen, it’s been an often times surreal experience that anyone who has made it from a similar place of obscurity can relate to. I believe my journey, like most journeys to greatness usually start from self-belief.

“It’s hard for me to believe I have done 34 years post graduation. There’s been struggles, uncertainties, living abroad seeking greener pastures, returning home, businesses have risen, flourished and some fallen.

“There’s been a marriage, a painful death, another blessed marriage, joyous births and more academic pursuits and degrees. There’s been my sojourn in government for 8 years, the birth of my precious grandchildren and the return that was the first scary till I felt the overwhelming love and support of my ever growing fan base.

“What a journey. What a packed 56years. I am indeed grateful and thankful. No, I didn’t wake up like this (as RMD), No, I didn’t always know that I would “make it”.

“It’s been Faith, Hard work, Self-development and more work. But above all, I have been more graced than my efforts could ever have done which is why in this journey, God is my ride or die and today I return all the glory to Him.”

According to him:”I can’t remember, because I’ve had several embarrassing moments and I can’t say precisely the first one. The first time I returned home after my shoot at NTV at the Bar Beach in 1954, in those days, not too many people had television but those who had allowed those who didn’t to watch in their houses. So, I just finished that show I went to do at the television station and as I came down from the bus that fateful day, people screamed, Jide! Jide!! Jide!!! and I was scared but they now said they watched me on television and pulled me here and there. Initially, I was embarrassed but later, it dawned on me they appreciated my acting”.

When asked to disclose his first pay as an actor, he simply said he was paid in coins.

Hear him:”It was from the first movie I acted, Makanjuola, in 1964 and I was paid in coins but money wasn’t my focus. I was happy and I spent the money on others”.

The actor who delved into acting by accident has stated one of the craziest experiences he has ever had in Nollywood.

The role interpreter said ladies he hasn’t met, send him messages on Instagram telling him, they were impregnated by them.

He puts it this way:”I have had messages from people, who are pregnant, people that I have not met before, people that I have not met literally. There are people that are deluded completely. I get messages like that. I know myself. I am not reckless. I don’t go foolhardy. We have crazy people now. Social media has worsened things”.

  • ‘A girl I dated aborted my child’- Jude Orhorha

Celebrated actor, Jude Orhorha needs no introduction when it comes to the world of acting. He is popular for his roles in Checkmate and Fuji House of Commotion. The talented role interpreter has stated an experience he will never forget in his lifetime. He said a girl he dated in 1992 aborted his first child based on instructions by her mother.

Orhorha made this known in an interview with Punch. According to him:”I am regretting the fact that if I had my first baby when I was about 22 years old, I would know how old the child would be now. A girl who got pregnant for me in 1992 aborted the child. Back then, there was no GSM so she stayed away from me.

“After the abortion, she then came back to meet me to tell me that her mother said she should not keep it and when I asked her what she meant, she opened up to me. She is Igbo but I am from Urhobo. She said that her mother said she should not keep the baby because I did not have money. Back then, it was the Igbo marketers who were selling spare parts that were making waves. They were the ones who had money. In the late 80s and early 90s, there was nothing like Nollywood but only those that were selling electronics. It was the guys that sold spare parts that were making money and they dated all the Igbo girls, both the ones in school and the ones at home. So if you were not selling spare parts, you were not regarded as a rich person.

“The girl left me because her mother told her not to date me anymore. Unfortunately, there was nothing like mobile phones; if not I am sure she would have called me. She just left for about two months. When she told me, I broke up with her immediately because I am a Catholic just like my mother,” he said.

‘Entertainers don’t go for medical check-ups’- Muyiwa Ademola

Muyiwa Ademola give reasons for deaths in the entertainment sector

Talented Nollywood actor, Muyiwa Ademola has stated the reason for the deaths in Nollywood. The award winning actor known for his excellent role interpretation said most actors work round the clock , spending nights and movie locations. He added that they don’t go for medical check-ups.

Speaking in an interview with Punch, he said:”A very big problem we have in our industry is that we work round the clock, we spend nights at movie locations but we don’t go for medical check-up. I have a doctor and I go for medical check-up every three weeks. I know when to take some days off work. For instance, if I work for about two weeks; I take a few days off to relax. I would just eat and rest. I also make sure I go on vacations and all I do in those times is just to eat and sleep. Most of the deaths in the movie industry are a result of accumulated stress without paying attention to one’s health”.

Ademola joined the Nigerian film industry through Charles Olumo, popularly known as Agbako who was based in his hometown, Abeokuta. He later met a movie director called S.I Ola who taught him acting and movie production. He began his acting career fully in 1995 when he produced his first movie titled Asise meaning mistake in English. The production was sponsored by Dibel who deals in generating sets. Since 1995, he has produced, direct and featured in several Yoruba Nollywood movies. On January 2013, it was reported that he was involved in a fatal accident, which almost resulted in his death.

‘Spiritual forces not involved in death of Yoruba actors’-Yomi Fash Lanso

Nollywood actor, Yomi Fash Lanso has dispelled counsels that the recent death of many movie stars in the Yoruba sector of Nollywood, may be triggered by spiritual forces
