The secret police said this in a statement on Sunday evening.

A DSS official was also recorded when he was being assaulted by persons believed to be working for politicians.

Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, in the statement said: “The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to a trending video on the social media in which someone suspected to be its staff was allegedly manhandled by some political miscreants in Adamawa State. This followed developments arising from the supplementary governorship election in the State.

The Service wishes to inform the public that it has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident.

“While calling for calm, the Service also implores concerned parties in Adamawa State to remain peace loving and shun violence.”

There has been controversy over the Adamawa election.

Mr. Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) for Adamawa State, declared Senator Aisha Dahiru, aka Binani, as winner of the election.

Before his declaration, Prof Mele Mohammed, the returning officer, had declared results of 10 of the 20 Local Government Areas where supplementary election took place.

He had scheduled the continuation for 11am on Sunday.

INEC subsequently waded in and halted the process while the REC and some other officials were summoned to Abuja.

The Kaduna born politician made this post via his verified Twitter handle on Monday.

“The next trick is to rush to the Court and get an injunction that will back up their daylight fraud,” Sani tweeted.

Recall that the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Hudu Yunusa, illegally declared Aisha Dahiru winner after the gubernatorial supplementary election held on Sunday.

However, the INEC swiftly denounced the purported declaration and suspended the collation of results of the supplementary election.

The commission further summoned the REC to Abuja.

Declare Fintiri winner of Adamawa guber polls, PDP tells INEC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resume collation of Adamawa governorship election results and declare the party candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri, winner of the election.

The party made the call at a news conference by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Sunday.

Ologunagba said that results uploaded on INEC Result Viewing Portal (IRev) already showed that Fintiri was the winner of the election.

“The PDP therefore demands that INEC Headquarters should immediately direct the Returning Officer to conclude collation, announce the results from the Polling Units and declare our candidate, Fintiri as winner, having scored the majority of lawful votes cast.

“From the results already collated across the 69 Polling Units where the supplementary elections held and which are on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, Fintiri clearly won the election.

“Our Party therefore demands that INEC should without further delay, announce the results as already collated from the Polling Units and declare Fintiri as winner.

“Anything short of this will not be accepted by our party and the people of Adamawa State,” he said.

Ologunagba condemned action of INEC Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) as illegal which confirmed the party’s earlier allegation of his complicity and demand for his immediate removal.

He called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest Mallam Yunusa Ari and make him face the full wrath of the law for his conduct.

“The PDP notes the pronouncement by INEC Headquarters that the action of Mallam Yunusa Ari is “null, void and of no effect”.

Guber Re-run: Governor Fintiri lambastes Adamawa REC –

The governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri  has condemned the action of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa on the re-run election in the state.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the REC declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Aishatu Binani, winner of the governorship election when the collation  process was still ongoing.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had fixed April 15 for rerun after March 18 was declared inconclusive.

In a broadcast after the scenario,  Fintiri stated that Yunusa’s conduct was unfortunate, accusing him of working for “a gang”.

His speech: “This morning, we all woke up to an illegal announcement by merchants of anarchy headed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner – Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari, who since the beginning of this election is bent on pushing our collective patience to its limit.

“It is on record that we went to the polls for the first round of the election on 18th of March, 2023. Even when it was apparent that I was coasting home to victory, this same gang aided the confusion that rendered the election inconclusive.

“Yesterday Saturday, 15th of April, the rerun was held peacefully across the State. The appropriate officers commenced the process of the collation.

“The first round of the collation went well, with 11 LGAs collated before the process was adjourned to continue today 16th April, at 11:00 a.m.

“Just when we were waiting for the resumption of the collation, the REC this morning took up a task he is not constitutionally empowered to do by making an illegal announcement of the outcome of the election without result.

“This action is no doubt provocative, but in this situation, I appeal for calm as always. I assure you that as your leader, I will ensure NOBODY thwarts your democratic rights.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission has demonstrated its umpire status by first distancing itself from the act of the REC and assured that the right thing will be done.

“The right thing in this context is the conclusion of the collation at the designated location and the declaration of a winner by the Returning Officer in the person of Professor Mele Kyari.

“I must thank you for your resilience and resolve to not only exercise your democratic rights but to also protect it. We are on this until justice is done.

“Fellow citizens, once again, I call on everyone to remain peaceful and law-abiding trusting that the world is watching the enemies of democracy at the height of their shameless brigandage.”

He said: “Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023”.

Recall that scores of angry demonstrators had stormed the National Collation Centre at the International Conference Centre in Abuja to demand that the Independent National Electoral Commission keep to its promise to deploy electronic transmission of results.

The development is coming barely 24 hours after a similar group gathered near the National Defence College, a few metres away from the centre, chanting “INEC, keep your promises”, “No IREV, no collation,” among others.

Tuesday’s demonstration saw the angry youths expressing dissatisfaction over the electoral umpire’s refusal to deploy live feed to transmit election results electronically.

Addressing journalists to cover the protest at Emeka Anyaoku street (about kilometre to the collation centre), one of the protest coordinators, Ilemona Onoja, explained that their major demand was for the INEC chairman, Prof Mamood Yakubu, to fulfill his pledge of a free, transparent and open process.

Guber Polls: Collation suspended over result tempering in Adamawa

An allegation of result tampering has led to the temporary suspension of collation in Adamawa state on Sunday night through Monday morning.

The exercise is likely to resume on Monday by the time all the irregularities are sorted.

Collation officers and even the state Commissioner of Police, Tola Afolabi had confirmed that there indeed were reported issues with results from Fufore but that they were working to make the necessary amends.

Before collation came to a halt as INEC officials tried to sort the issue out, results from 20 of the 21 LGAs of the state had been collated by Sunday midnight.

Results from Song and Michika LGA, respectively, were the last two to be collated after collation officers returned from break at just before 11pm.

Song and Michika results are as follows:

    SONG (Central Zone)

    PDP 24,744
    APC 19,935
    NNPP 1582.

    MICHIKA (Northern Zone)
    PDP 30,262
    APC 15,793
    ABC 217

The two brought to 20 the number of LGAs thus collated, leaving out just Fufore LGA, and bringing the votes of the leading PDP and APC candidates as follows: A total of 401,067 votes for the PDP and 366,498 to the APC.

APC’s Aishatu Ahmed Binani is expected to get the highest votes from Fufore if INEC officials and party agents eventually agree on the result that will be announced from there.

It’s still unclear if Aisha Bunani’s effort to make first elected female governor will come to fruition.
