  • 2023: Poll favours Amb Abubakar-Waziri may upstage Gov Fintri in Adamawa PDP primary election

2023: Poll favours Amb Abubakar-Waziri may upstage Gov Fintri in Adamawa PDP primary election

From all indications the battle of Adamawa PDP Governorship ticket will be between Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and Ambassador Mohammed Jameel Abubakar-Waziri, former Chief of Protocol to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a poll conducted independently many factors will determine delegates’ voting patterns: politics, critical stakeholders’ interests, political errors and miscalculations, sentiment, geography including the smart application of war-chest.

Ambassador Jameel Abubakar-Waziri from the poll has a little edge over the incumbent despite his very large war-chest.

The incumbency factor equally has a major role to play if properly managed by Fintri.

Each aspirant has his advantages and baggage.

Fintiri already has 20% of delegates’ votes; because of incumbency

Mismanagement of relationships with critical stakeholders will deprive him of 35% of votes.

Sentiment, geography will deny /give him some 10% of the votes
Warchest will help him with 25% of his votes.

Ambassador Waziri will gain Fintiri’s losses- 35%
Sentiments, geography will give him 10%

War chest will give him 25%
Fintiri’s incumbency will deprive Waziri of some 25% of the delegates’ votes
Ambassador Waziri will gain some 30% bonus votes.

To clearly see how the PDP delegates will vote, the Adamawa PDP delegates’ votes should be split into 7 zones:

    Zone 1: Numan Federation
     Numan LGA
     Demsa LGA
     Lamurde LGA

Fintiri will do very well in Numan Federation, with Kwamoti Bitrus Laori as Fintiri’s point & right-hand man, deputy governor Crowther Seth is from the area, including the Deputy Speaker as well as the area has got a good number of appointments from the Fintiri governor.

However, some stakeholders will cast protest votes against Laori’s status- The person who solely calls the shots to the detriment of the other stakeholders. Despite its huge votes for Fintiri in 2019- Numan Federation as a whole has not attracted capital projects from the Fintiri government in correlation to its 2019 votes.

    • Fintiri- 70%
    • Jameel- 30%

    Zone 2: Ganye Chiefdom:
     Ganye LGA
     Jada LGA
     Toungo LGA
 Mayo Belwa can be merged to LGAs

Ganye Chiefdom has some of the most important critical stakeholders in the Adamawa PDP- Former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, Bamanga Tukur, PDP state Chairman A.T Shehu, Sheik Arabo, Yayah Mai Samari, etc – they are 100% determinants of how the delegates will votes. Many things will work against Fintiri- He has failed to manage his relationship with the critical stakeholders’, he only appears to be remorse when things are not in his favor- many people believe his sudden support for Atiku’s quest for the presidency in 2023 was as a result of his seeing calculations have hit the bricks: Pundits see Fintiri’s first term as a ‘bitter’ one to some of the stakeholders, thus his second term will be the most bitter- some pundits are of the view that – Fintiri with a second term mandate at his hands – will be a bull in a China shop with no apologies, thus if Ambassador Jameel can negotiate very well- Ganye Chiefdom is his.

    • Fintiri- 35%
    • Jameel – 65%

    Zone 3:
    Guyuk LGA
    Shelleng LGA

If Fintiri has played his game smartly- Guyuk/Shelleng should have been a workover for him, but typical of his style; he has committed some avoidable mistakes- Firstly, his usual poor relationship with stakeholders- people like Dan Suleiman who is a founding member of the PDP (G34) many people have forgotten that he is a stakeholder in the Adamawa PDP, courtesy of Fintiri’s style of politics. Where is the likes of Mr. Ziyon? etc Fintiri will have many thorny issues in that regard. Another of Fintiri’s mistakes in that Zone is; the Guyuk Cement- there are complaints that Fintiri has blocked everybody from the process- in fact, Fintiri is solely speaking on behalf of the host community. The recent reconciliation between House of Reps member- Gibeon Goroki Miskaru and Fintiri, is a cosmetic one according to some political observers- it is just to respect Atiku Abubakar.

    • Fintiri- 50%
    • Jameel- 50%

    Zone 4
     Yola North LGA
     Yola South LGA
     Fufore LGA
     Girei LGA

Fintiri will have a serious problem in that area- the ‘mark’ on him of being anti-Fulani will be used again him. Poor stakeholders’ relationship. In Yola-North for instance, out of the 24 critical stakeholders, only 6 are with him.

Chief Joel Madaki could have been Fintiri’s savior in the zone, but the Chief is quietly nursing his ‘wounds’ from Fintiri’s ‘whips’. Fintiri has promised the PDP Adamawa Central Senatorial ticket to 3 people in that area- one ticket- 3 promises. There is another sentiment that will also be used again him- Fintiri’s seeming affront to the traditional class. And, imposition of candidates including his miserly nature. Ambassador Jameel will be comfortably at home, his good relationship with stakeholders, he is not new in the game and Fintiri losses are his gain

    • Fintiri- 32%
    • Jameel 68%

    Zone 5:
     Madagali
     Michika

In Michika, it appears the die is cast between Fintiri and many of the PDP critical stakeholders. For example, during the last local council elections- Fintiri couldn’t control Michika. Ideally, Fintiri should have a seamless win in Michika/Madagli, but the stakeholders will do a payback time for him. Fintiri’s Undue Interference with the party politics of the Adamawa North PDP Senatorial ticket will also work against him, Ambassador Jameel will likely get bonus votes from the area, and if he negotiates very well; Fintiri will get not a surprising home defeat, but a shocking one

    • Fintiri- 45%
    • Jameel – 55

    Zone 6
     Mubi North LGA
     Mubi South LGA
     Maiha LGA

Fintiri will have an upper hand in that zone despite its ‘nature’- some factors will help him, but the rumors that he intends to create another chiefdom from the area may likely work against him. People like Alh Yunusa, Madawakin Mubit etc will assist him. For now, pundits will give Fintiri this area’s votes, however, the ripples from the Adamawa North PDP senatorial ticket and the Michika intricacies may affect his fortunes

    • Fintiri- 55%
    • Jameel- 45%

    Zone 7
     Song
     Hong
     Gombi

In this Zone, it will be neck to neck between Fintiri and Ambassador Jameel. In 2019, Hong massively voted for Fintiri despite it having the big office of the SGF from the APC government at the center, but Fintiri has lost the goodwill in that area. Though he has gained some people from the APC but their electoral value is not equivalent to those he lost, like Rufa’i Gombi, etc. Fintiri has the speaker, but Uba Gaya has no government presence, this is another weak point.

    • Fintiri- 50%
    • Jameel- 50%

One factor has will work against Fintiri is, that those hailing him have no stake in the delegates’ votes, while those with a stake are sitting akimbo waiting for the D-day. Fintiri has an advantageous, but a herculean task of the utilization of his incumbency and the resources at his disposal, but If Ambassador Jameel utilizes his goodwill well, mobilizes his already political structure, and smartly applies his war chest – the game is his.

Final Result from the above Analysis:
    • Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri- 48.14%
    • Jameel Abubakar Waziri– 51.86%

  • 2023: Atiku becoming president, matter of time – Fintiri

2023: Atiku becoming president, matter of time – Fintiri

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa says it is a matter of time for former vice president Atiku Abubakar to become the country’s number one citizen.

Fintiri expressed optimism that Atiku is just one step away from emerging as president.

He stated this while fielding questions from newsmen in Yola on Monday.

He said Atiku got the ticket in 2019 and would get it again in 2023, considering his experience and the calibre of people supporting him.

“I think he will be there, In-shaa Allah. It is a matter of time and one step.

“Politics is local, whether you are aspiring for the smallest or the highest position, you must have the base, which is home.

“This, we have provided for our leader, the former Vice President in his aspiration for the presidency of Nigeria for the 2023 general elections,” he said.

Fintiri said that Atiku has the experience and if he emerged as president, he would close the gaps of the challenges in the country.

“He has the experience, he understands the dynamics of this country and I believe he would be able to close the gap, bring us together and that will solve part of the security challenges in the country,” said the governor.

Police arrest six suspected kidnappers in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested six suspected kidnappers who attacked Ngurore Police Station in Yola-South Local Government Area and kidnapped nursing a mother.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident occurred on October 10, but the victims had been rescued.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mohammed Barde, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Adamawa Police Community Relations Committee on Thursday in Yola.

He said the command was ready to deal with kidnapping, arm robbery and other criminal activities in the state.

Barde called for continued support of the committee by providing useful information to the police to ensure peace and security across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

He assured them that such information would be treated with confidentiality.

Half a million people in three Nigerian states at risk of starvation – UN

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that half a million women, men and children in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states are at risk of starvation as its funding for the region dries up.

In a statement released on Friday, the global agency says it may soon be forced to cut food rations except it secures urgent funding to continue its life-saving operations in the crisis hotspot.

The region has been a mainstay of insurgency attacks for over a decade and the situation has been worsened by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising high food prices, the WFP said.

The UN agency also said the number of internally-displaced persons surpassed two million in September.

“Cutting rations means choosing who gets to eat and who goes to bed hungry. We are seeing funding for our life-saving humanitarian work dry up just at the time when hunger is at its most severe,” said Chris Nikoi, WFP’s Regional Director for West Africa following a recent visit to Nigeria.

The WFP, which won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2020, said it required at least $55 million in a matter of weeks to avoid cutting food aid.

“Our food assistance is a lifeline for millions whose lives have been upended by conflict and have almost nothing to survive on. We must act now to save lives and avoid disruptions to this lifeline,” Nikoi added.

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, said cutting food assistance “will be a painful decision for humanitarians as it will negatively affect children, women and men uprooted from their homes due to continued violence.

“As we call upon our partners to step up their support in response to the growing needs, I would like to say thank you to those who have stood with us over the years in providing the much-needed humanitarian assistance in the country.”

According to its Friday statement, the WFP said it has “provided life-saving food and nutrition assistance to severely food insecure people, displaced families in camps, and to vulnerable people living in host communities thanks to generous contributions from Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, the United States of America, and private donors.

“This year, relying on the continued generosity of donor partners, WFP ramped up its response to address rising food insecurity and the impact of COVID-19, targeting 1.9 million displaced people in Nigeria with life-saving food assistance.

“To sustain humanitarian operations in northeast Nigeria until March 2022, WFP urgently requires USD 197 million.”

Polio resurfaces in Adamawa, 1 case detected – Official

The Adamawa Government has confirmed the reemergence and detection of Circulating Vaccine Derived Poliovirus type 2 case in the state.
Prof. Abdullahi Isa, the stateCommissioner for Health and Human Services, disclosed this during the official flag off of first Round Outbreak Response immunisation on Saturday in Yola.
Isa described Vaccine Derived Poliovirus type 2 ( VDPV) as a strain of the weakened Poliovirus that was initially included in Oral Polio Vaccine ( OPV) that has changed over time and behaves more like the wild or naturally occurring virus.
He expressed concern that the current resurface of the virus in the state was a great challenge and danger for possible outbreak of the transmitted virus.
“One case of Circulating Vaccine Derived Poliovirus type 2 has been detected in the state.
“The situation is possing a great danger of polio virus outbreak in the state.
“The resurface of the Poliovirus type 2 necessitated the immediate flag off of the first Round Outbreak Response for Oral Polio Vaccine,” Isa said.
He said the state government with the support from the developmental partners, WHO and UNICEF, among others, had trained about 800 health personnel to carry out the routine immunisation for polio vaccination.
He said about one million children below five years were targeted in the outbreak response vaccination across the state.
Mr Iyobosa Igbinovia, the WHO state Coordinator, recalled that Nigeria was in August 2020 declared free and safe country from polio virus.
Igbinovia however said that the resurfaced of the Polio virus was a threat to healthcare services not only in Adamawa but for the North East in general.
“WHO is working hand in hand with the state government to ensure total eradication of the virus and to ensure every eligible child is vaccinated against Polio,” Igbinovia said.
On his part, Alhaji Muhammadu Isa, the District Head of Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, where the case was detected, assured of full support to health workers.
“I will direct all Ward Heads to ensure people complied and present their children to receive Oral Polio Vaccine,” Isa said.
  • DSS grills ex-Governor, APC chieftains over anti-Buhari meeting

DSS grills ex-Governor, APC chieftains over anti-Buhari meeting

A former Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Jibrilla Bindow, is currently in trouble for convening a meeting during which invectives, even death wish, were rained on President Muhammadu Buhari.

The alleged conspiracy blew open when an audio recording of the meeting was leaked and started circulating in the media.

Bindow was said to have been invited and grilled for several hours on Wednesday by the Department of State Services to explain his role in the said conspiratorial meeting against the President.

This, expectedly, has generated political tension in Adamawa State.

Though the former governor denied conspiring against Buhari, he did confirm that some uncomplimentary statements were uttered by some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress during the meeting – though much to his discomfort.

Other party chieftains also grilled by the DSS in connection with the meeting include a former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Kabiru Mijinyawa; a former Commissioner during Bindow’s Administration, Mustapha Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha; acting APC Chairman, Yola South, Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu; a former Sole Administrator of Yola West Development Area, Hon. Abubakar Umar Sirimbai; and a former Adviser during Bindow’s administration, Alhaji Yusha’u Adamu.

Bindow had allegedly convened a meeting of APC chieftains in Yola South, ostensibly as part of his preparations to contest the state’s governorship ticket again in 2023.

During the meeting, some aggrieved APC members rained invectives on the President, with one of them quoted as saying: “Coronavirus ought to have killed this president to save Nigeria from his misrule.”

The audiotape of the anger against Buhari at the meeting was thereafter leaked by another top shot of the party, leading to allegation of a plot against Buhari.

A security source confirmed to The Eagle Online that the former governor was indeed invited to explain his role in the meeting.

The source said those invited for questioning on the meeting were confronted with the leaked audio recording and asked to explain the roles they played.

The source said; “A death wish against the president of a country cannot be taken for granted.

“Those behind it could escalate their motive beyond mere mouthing it.”

Bindow has, however, denied plotting against the President, saying Buhari is like a father to him.

In a statement by his Special Adviser Media, Sadiq Abdullateef, on Wednesday, Bindow confirmed that he was indeed invited and questioned by the DSS.

Contrary to the claim that he convened the meeting, the former governor said he was invited to the meeting rather than convening it.

He also admitted that there were uncomplimentary outbursts against the President during the meeting, but that he was actually the one cautioning them, even threatening to walk out of the meeting if such vituperations were not stopped.

Bindow said he believed that the leaked audio recording of the meeting was doctored to satisfy a preconceived sinister motive as the part where he showed his disapproval of the negative things being said about the President was edited out.

Abdullateef’s statement reads: “Former Adamawa State governor, Senator Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindow, was invited to a party meeting because some members of the party were aggrieved about the just-concluded primaries, which he attended as an elder of the party.

“It’s worthy of note that, there was no programme in the said meeting; he went there and sat and listened to the aggrieved members’ complaints. And there was an unwarranted outburst from some members which he cautioned.

“It’s sad that some people are using that outburst with a recording to malign the former governor.

“The said recording was doctored and if you listened to it very well, there are some conversations that were skipped. Senator Bindow cautioned the members making those unwarranted utterances thrice in the meeting, and even threatened to walk out.

“His words were, ‘Please, this is not right. You don’t wish anybody death because of political reasons, talk less of our leader and father, the president. Let’s make progress please, or I am leaving’.”

The former governor’s aide said the “planned recording” was meant to malign Bindow “and create problems where there is none,” as the former governor’s utterances condemning what was said was not even in the circulated recording.

“As far as we are concerned, we were invited to a meeting and things were said in public and Senator Bindow cautioned the people making those utterances, and that was it.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is like a father to Bindow, and he will never entertain anything of such on the president.”
