  • PDP has no future in Nigeria – Former Adamawa Governor

PDP has no future in Nigeria – Former Adamawa Governor

Former Adamawa Governor Bala Ngillari, says Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no future in Nigeria, because it is a dying party.

Ngillari said this at the state All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting on Saturday in Yola.

The former governor who defected to APC in 2020, was the PDP’s Adamawa North Senatorial Candidate at the 2019 general election.

”One of the reason why I dumped PDP for APC is that PDP is a dying party. In fact PDP is dead and it will be buried in 2023.

”Secondly, I don’t see PDP as an alternative for the future of Nigeria, because the contradictions in the party will make its members go to the graveyard and we will help them bury themselves.

”And the reason why I identified myself with APC is because of its laudable objectives that will take us to the promised land and give hope to our future generations,” Ngillari said.

He said that any nationalist who wanted the country to move to the next level, should join APC as it has no alternative at present.

He said that there was hope for Nigeria and its citizens under the APC led Federal Government, urging progressive politicians across the country to rally round the party.

”I wish those who chose to remain in PDP well, ” Ngillari said.

He said that the APC currently has 90 per cent followership in Adamawa, assuring that the party would take over the state in 2023.

“Adamawa has abundant natural resources if properly harnessed, the resources would boost the economy of the state and the country at large,” he said.

He called on the people of the state to support APC for the future and development of the state.

Fintiri, who spoke to newsmen in the course of inspecting projects around the state capital, Yola, charged the opposition to appreciate his projects and join him in advancing the cause of the state.

“They should not be sponsoring thugs to destroy our Commonwealth, they should come and see what we are using public funds for,” the Governor said.

The governor, who said unconstructive criticisms serve no public good, stressed he is using funds for capital projects, which he said should be appreciated.

Ongoing projects which the governor inspected during the weekend include Dougire Lane, Government House back gate road, Doctors Quarters, Zumo Street and Link, Lagos Street Off Army Barracks road, Falu Road and links, among others, all within the metropolitan Yola North and Yola South local government areas.

Fintiri, who said his intention is to build a state that can compete with other developed states, vowed that no amount of pressure will deter him from executing people-oriented projects.

“I expect the opposition forces to come and see how government’s funds are judiciously utilized for the common good of the citizenry,” he reiterated, declaring that despite the activities of hoodlums who last Sunday and Monday vandalised government and private warehouses and stores, his administration would not be distracted from its projects.

He expressed satisfaction with projects being carried out under the Urban Renewal Programme, assuring that he would continue to strive to meet with the yearnings of Adamawa people.

Out of the eight road projects that Fintiri reached during the inspection of Saturday, those of Dogirei Lane and Lekki Tabba streets, both in Jimeta, Yola North LGA, had been completed.

  • Shocking! Adamawa records 350 rape cases in five months

Shocking! Adamawa records 350 rape cases in five months

Adamawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Lami Ahmed, has averred that the state recorded over 350 cases of rape and sexual assault between May and October 2020.

The commissioner made this known on Monday in Yola at the launch of SMARTRR, a technological-driven solution that allows users of mobile phones to report and refer cases of rape and other gender-based violence in their community.

Ahmed noted that the culture of silence over rape cases and other sexual violence was responsible for the recent surge in the number of rape cases in the state.

She revealed that already, about 150 cases of rape in the state had been reported, using the SMARTRR and added that follow-ups had been made by concerned service providers.

She expressed delight that a youth in the state, Samuel Dirug, came up with the innovation, which allowed for the confidential reporting and referral of nearly half of the over 350 recorded cases of rape between May and October in the state.

She said, “With over 350 cases, one is only left to wonder what measures are to be taken to address this issue before it makes an animal kingdom out of our society; that is if it has not created one already.”

Earlier, Dirug noted that 180 active cases of sexual abuse had been reported using the app, with 27 out of the cases successfully closed with the assistance of partners in Adamawa since May.
