Just In: 7days after Adamu, Omisore quit office, APC national vice chairman, Lukman resigns

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress for North-West, Mallam Salihu Lukman, has quit his position in the ruling party.

His resignation letter was submitted on Wednesday to the Acting National Chairman of the party, Senator Abubakar Kyari.

The development is coming one week after the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, tendered their resignations.

In his resignation letter the Kaduna politician hinged his resignation on the alleged illegal acts and interference in the affairs of the party, which he claimed, was at variance with the vision of the founding fathers.

Lukman said that he opted to throw in the towel rather than remain in the party to continue his agitation and be seen as a distraction.

The letter read, “Your Excellency, I hereby kindly resign my position as National Vice Chairman, North-West of our great party, All Progressives Congress. My resignation is with immediate effect, which becomes necessary given my conviction that the atmosphere in the party is completely at variance with the founding vision of forming a progressive party.

Rather than remaining in the leadership of the party and becoming a source of distraction for leaders and especially for the young government of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is better to excuse myself and take time off from politics.

“I will however retain my membership of the party in the hope that our leaders, especially President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will retract from acts that will be unjust and illegal, which is crucial to any claim of being democratic or progressive whether as politicians or as patriotic Nigerians.”

The outgoing vice chairman also applauded former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for nominating and standing by him throughout his tenure.

This is even as he promised to continue to support the party in every way that he can.

“I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to our leaders in Kaduna, especially Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai for finding me worthy of nomination to serve at the highest level of the party’s leadership. I do hope all our leaders will appreciate that I am left with no option in the circumstance. I wish the party and all our leaders, especially President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu all the best and will continue to give my modest support towards the success of the party from the background,” he said.

APC ‘wahala’: Adamu’s plots against NASS Leadership, ties with Uzodimma cost him position – Reps member, Ikenga

…advises Tinubu to replace Uzodimma with Gov. Abiodun of Ogun as PGF Chairman

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu on Monday reacted to news of Sen. Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that Adamu was consumed by his relationship with Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma which made him walk into many political conspiracy that have today consumed him.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls on Sunday night, news of Adamu’s resignation hit online networks indicating that the APC strongman had voluntarily vacated his position as chairman.

Correspondingly, the National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore also tendered his resignation minutes after.

Describing the development as a welcomed one, Ugochinyere who represents Ideato North, South of Imo State in a statement he personally signed urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC Governors to complete the cleansing by removing Hope Uzodimma as Chairman Progressive Governor’s Forum and using gentle and educated minds like Dapo Abiodum as Chairman of the Forum.

According to him, though he’s not interested in the politics of the ruling party, he’s however concerned about treacherous and disloyal people who parade themselves as loyal and looking for a way to get access to influence the President and security chiefs into keeping Imo as a bloody battle field.

He opined that despite Adamu’s removal as APC’s National Chairman, with Uzodimmas continued stay as chairman Progressive Governor’s Forum, President Tinubu should be wary and expect more betrayals and sabotage.

Ikenga recalled how Adamu and Uzodimma have been fighting Tinubu since the days of presidential primaries, plus their failed plot to topple the newly elected principal officers of the 10TH NASS.

First he pointed out, was the ‘Gestapo Style’ in which Adamu, announced former Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate for the party, against the position of the ruling party’s NWC.

Another, Ugochinyere pointed out was how reluctant he was to fully endorse Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator Jubrin Barau, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Kalu during the campaign, as consensus candidates of the ruling party for national assembly leadership positions.

The last one, Ugochinyere pointed out was Adamu’s recent utterance that the ruling party had no hand in the selection of NASS principal officers.

All these, the lawmaker said is the handwork of he (Adamu) and Uzodimma, adding that “it’s dangerous if Uzodimma is not removed as chairman Progressive Governor’s Forum, as they worked hand in hand to sabotage President Tinubu.”

Ugochinyere said, “After Adamu’s resignation, Uzodimma should be next. Tinubu has to complete the cleansing to avoid further sabotage and instigation against him now and in the near future. Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State can manipulate the minds of new governors.

“The ruling party’s NWC can also be manipulated with characters like Uzodimma running around. The only way to bring back stability and genuine working relationship between President and governors is for progressive governors forum chairmanship to be given to a man with proven character and integrity and not a political gate crasher like Hope Uzodimma,” the lawmaker said.

Reps bombard Adamu over comments on 10th NASS principal officers

… insists due process was followed

House of Representatives on Sunday blasted the All Progressives Congress ( APC), National chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, over his comment on the nomination of principal officers in the National Assembly.

The Deputy chairman, House Ad-hoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere, while speaking at a press briefing, in Abuja, said Adamu’s comment was aimed at creating crisis between the executive and legislature.

He explained that the principal officers were elected in accordance with the standing rules of the House, which mandates the majority and minority caucuses to select their leaders from amongst themselves.

Ugochinyere added that before the election of the principal officers, the members of the House, including those from the APC, had consulted widely with their respective political parties.

According to him, if you look at Order 7, Rule of , 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and 12, the House Standing Rules, it is very clear that members of the National Assembly both in the Senate and in House of Representatives shall freely elect or nominate from among themselves the majority leader, deputy majority leader, whip, deputy whip, the minority leader, deputy minority leader, minority whip and deputy minority whip.

“And if you go to order 7 rule 12, it lays emphasis that even to change this leaders, when nominated, that you will require, after due notice to the leadership simple majority among the members to remove them.

“What is the import of this? The power to select, the power to nominate under the 2020 amended standing order of the House of Representatives rests squarely on the members of the different caucuses of the parliament whether majority or minority.

“It is on that note that I want to inform you that the selection of the leadership of the different caucuses of the House of Representatives was done by members of the National Assembly in accordance with the standing order.

“Politically also, consultations were extensively carried out by the PDP, LP, NNPP up to the APC. I remember the leadership visited Keffi to meet with the National chairman in furtherance of that consultation to be be able to carry every body along. ”

    The lawmaker added
“that is why it was unwelcome to hear the party chairman, Abdullahi Adamu trying to disrespect the statutory decision of the National assembly. It was unhealthy. It was unacceptable.

“And it is important to understand that prior to the election of the principles officers both at the Senate and the House of Representatives, members of the parliament across political parties met with the president and agreed on a harmonious working relationship that will not jeopardize the independence of the parliament.

“While we agree that the independence of the National assembly will be respected by the president, and lawmakers are goimg to work with n the president in delivering people centered and executive agenda,

“What the national chairman has done is an attempt to sabotage that harmonious working relationship that is aimed at delivering on parliamentary goals. And creating internal rumble and disunity that will not allow us have smooth working relationship. And that is unacceptable. The members of APC should call their chairman to order.

  • APC has been damaged In the last few years under Adamu leadership, says Lukman

APC has been damaged In the last few years under Adamu leadership, says Lukman

A chieftain of the ruling All progressives Congress (APC), who is also member of the national working committee (NWC), Dr Salihu Lukman says the party has been so damaged In the last few years under the leadership of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Lukman, the  APC National Vice Chairman North West accused the national chairman and secretary of the party, Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore, of bullying and intimidating him over his stance on the way the party is being run.

In an open letter to APC leaders, he maintained that contestation and disagreement are defining attributes of any progressive political party.

He identified the refusal by Adamu to render accounts of the party for the past one year as part of his grouse against him.

“We have managed the party since April 2022 without approved budget as required under Article 13.3A(xiv) of the APC constitution. No report of any kind to any organ, not even the NWC. Yet, Article 13.4(ii) and (iv) require the NWC to submit quarterly reports of activities and finances covering income and expenditure to NEC,” he sud.

“Billions of Naira have been expended based on discretionary decisions of the National Chairman and National Secretary. Till date, no member of the NWC can claim to know how much is in all the accounts of the party outside Sen. Adamu and Sen. Omisore and perhaps the National Treasurer and National Financial Secretary.”

“By every definition, Sen. Adamu’s politics is conservative and reactionary. Unfortunately, however, based on all the unfolding realities, he is on a reckless conservative and reactionary politician, who, if left unchecked, can pull the party in the direction of committing political suicide. All party leaders and members must wake up to this reality and stop Sen. Adamu from achieving his mission of self destroying the APC.

“Both Sen. Adamu and Sen. Omisore, from all available reports appeared to be animated that I have resumed public advocacy on the need to save the APC and ensure that the structures of the party are given life in line with provisions of the APC constitution. Yes, I have resumed public advocacy because all the structures that should have permitted internal debates are being blocked from meeting.

“For the records, if you want to resume deliberations to consider expelling me from the party, you are free to do so. I will defend myself publicly to the best of my ability. APC, as a party founded with the vision of being a progressive party, must accommodate debates and contestations.

“Nobody, no matter how highly placed should imagine that the best way to win debates and contestation is to bully and blackmail opponents. I can guarantee you; no amount of bullying will stop the campaign to return APC to constitutional order.

“By the way, you are free to expel me from APC, but you cannot expel me as citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. APC is not a private property. It is a public political organisation with rule, which must be respected. Sen. Adamu and Sen. Omisore can block organs of the APC from meeting to the extent that other leaders of the party are willing to permit.

“No one can block me, in anyway, from discharging my right to engage the issues both as Nigerian and as a member of APC, expelled or not. For your information, I am currently working to document all these experiences, which I will publish, God willing, so that it contribute to the body of knowledge in the development of party politics in Nigeria.

“Whether you respect my right to hold membership of APC or not, I can proudly say that my publications will remain references for anyone who wish to understudy the APC for the foreseeable future.

“Perhaps, let me also indulge the National Chairman, Sen. Adamu by informing him that contrary to his campaign of slander against me, I consider myself a very successful person. Unlike the lies he enjoy telling NWC members that I was sacked in five places, in all the places I worked, I left credible records, and they are all there to be verified.

”Respect begets respect. I respect Sen. Adamu and I will not because of disagreement with his politics slander his person and his reputation. Without doubt, I can confirm to you that I am committed to anything I subscribe to and will always discharge any responsibility given to me that I willfully and willingly accept to discharge.

“My current position as APC National Vice Chairman North-West is no exception. In discharging my responsibility for that office as provided in the APC constitution, I will do so without fear or favour with the objective of contributing to the development of Nigerian democracy and the APC as a political party registered under the law.

“The struggle to return APC to constitutional order is about achieving the founding vision of forming a party that is progressive and encourages internal debates and contestations by allowing all the structures provided in the APC constitution to freely operate. Leaders of APC must be friendly to debates, contestations, engagements and should not lay back to find ways of blocking debates using bullying methods and blackmailing opponents.

“In the last few years, APC has been so damaged to point of being reduced to a party that is in contempt with its own rules. As a person, I believe that all leaders and members of the party must rise to the challenge of restoring APC to its founding vision and one that is undeniably progressive, and not only in name. The struggle continues!”

“We are here to present our letter of grievances to you and also tell this honourable house as a leaders, that we are not satisfied with the arrangement.

“What we are expecting from you people is to give us a fair play, at least if nothing, to mention that a particular position is zoned and anybody in that zone can’t participate,”Yari said.

He added that the lawmakers had done their best to ensure that the party remained in power and deserved to be carried along in its decisions.

Yari added that politics was all about dialogue and communication, saying that all sides should be given a fair hearing.

Responding, the APC National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, said the zoning of the Senate Presidency was done in concert with stakeholders and some Senators.

Adamu, the APC National Chairman while welcoming the lawmakers, expressed satisfaction on their visit and decision to come open with their grievance.

“As chairman of the APC and members of the NWC, we take responsibility, I take responsibility for what has gone on air, and in that spirit, I welcome you to this office on behalf of my colleagues.

“Yes there was no sufficient or adequate consultations with you who are contesting and it is simple principle of democracy that you get views and opinions.

“But the circumstances that we found ourselves in after the elections frustrated our desire,” Adamu said, adding that the party’s leadership would revisit the issue in the interest of all.

While appealing to the lawmakers to be calm, the APC national chairman said Sen. Bola Tinubu’s contributions were critical on the issue of the 10th National Assembly.

“Hold the fire until the last word is heard from us, we are the custodians of the party as NWC, but we are not acting alone.

“The voice of Tinubu the President-elect is an essential voice. We must accommodate him, the best we can. I will not compromise on that.

“He is right now outside the country and by the grace of God when he comes back we will go back to the drawing board and put ours heads together again and see what we will get.

“I cannot preempt that, I will wait until we hold that meeting with the President-elect,” Adamu said

He assured the lawmakers that the party’s leadership would go through your memo with a view to addressing issues contained in it.

“Whatever you heard is the art of human endeavour and we are not perfect as human beings. We can make mistakes.

“So, if we find in the course of further consultations the mistakes that need to be looked at, we will look at them. The important thing is that the spirit of the party must be kept alive.

“Our eyes must stay on the ball but in doing so we must make sure justice will be done, we will do the best as human beings to deliver justice to all and sundry,” Adamu said.

Nigerians react on the detention of boy who attacked Aisha Buhari on Twitter

Some Nigerians have criticized Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari and the Department of State Services (DSS) following the arrest of a young Nigerian who made a comment on Aisha on Twitter.

The young chap, Aminu Adamu is presently being held in custody for making comments on Aisha’s weight on Twitter.

Adamu a student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, posted that the First Lady has added weight after eating the poor masses weight.

His tweet reads “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi” (The mother has got fatter by eating masses’ money).

The post, which suggests President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife benefited from alleged corrupt practices, generated many reactions.

Aminu’s friends said the tweet was in protest of the eight-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The industrial action infuriated thousands of students so much that they made comments, videos, and organised rallies against the government.

Adamu was since arrested since November 8 and still being held in DSS custody since then.

However, his arrest has now gone viral and Nigerians are now clamouring for his release.

The 23-year-old, undergraduate who was  arrested within campus around 12 noon on November 8, was only allowed to speak to his father, Shalele Azare Adamu.

As of Sunday night, Aisha Buhari was trending on Twitter with more than 60,000 mentions as users mount pressure on the authorities to free the student.

Legal practitioner, Inibehe Effiong said it is petty, ridiculous and unconstitutional for the DSS to hold a citizen for “mockery”.

Effiong insists Nigeria is not Iran, North Korea or China and vowed that reckless abuse of power will not be tolerated.

The rights activist stated that Mrs Aisha Buhari should have taken Muhammed to court for libel if she felt defamed.

Effiong said using the secret police to detain a youth “is another evidence of the culture of crass impunity that pervades the Buhari regime”.

“It is not acceptable to deploy state apparatus in such a draconian and oppressive manner the way Mrs Aisha Buhari has done to settle personal scores. The DSS has no jurisdiction in this case”, he added,

In one of his several reactions on the matter, Investigative Reporter, David Hundeyin quoted a 2013 tweet by the APC United Kingdom verified account.

“Death notice (2) Survived by GEJ (Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan), Shepopotamus (Alleged reference to Patience Jonathan)…Funeral to be held at Aso Rock. No sycophants or flowers please”, it reads.

Noting that the tweet was about a sitting First Lady, David wrote: “The sky did not fall down. So please entirely miss me with anything you have to say. Aisha Buhari’s bullying has not even started.”

@firstladyship: “Aisha Buhari did not spare Aminu because he is Arewa, she sent the DSS to arrest him. What we are fighting against are the old guards who are united. 2023 is a class war between the political class & ordinary Nigerians.”

@AishaYesufu: “Who is Aisha Buhari that an aggrieved citizen cannot talk about? Those of you talking about her so called powers need to ask yourselves whether you are citizens or slaves.”

@Oluomoofderby: “Aisha Buhari can use the DSS to arrest someone who insulted her but the DSS can’t arrest the people who stoned and burnt Deborah Samuel to death. Deborah’s killers are walking free in Sokoto state. Nigeria is a lawless country.”

@SadiqMaunde: “They arrested Aminu for trolling Aisha Buhari, now thousands of Aminus emerged on Twitter. Nigerians are really uniting against their oppressors, may we carry the same anger to the polls.”

Tinubu speaks on disagreement with APC chairman, Adamu

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu says he has no disagreement with the party’s National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, contrary to some media reports.

Tinubu said this when he spoke with newsmen after a visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
He described the reports as fake news.

“To the rumour manufacturers, I read in some papers about disagreement between myself and the chairman and that was a very big lie.

“They didn’t know that we have come a long way, the big masquerade dance not in the cage, but in the market square, and that is what Adamu use to be, full of wisdom.

“We were governors together, before God put us together on this project again, he is going to deliver as the party’s chairman for me to become Nigeria’s president, and I am very confident of that.

“They can say whatever they want to say, throw all the jabs they want, we are a party strongly determined to fulfil our dreams of turning Nigeria to a very progressive, highly developed, prosperous country,” he said.

Tinubu said that since his emergence as the APC Presidential Candidate, he has working as a progressive toward ensuring victory at the poll.

He said that the APC was determined to change Nigeria into an advance country with bright future for Nigerians.

“It is a matter of great joy and honour for us to be here, especially me in particular, to interact with the team that authorised my becoming the candidate of our party.

“To all the members in attendance that day, we want to say thank you, we have come together as a political party and we have taken progressivism as our doctrine.

“We have to be progressive in our thinking, our did and objective to serve the country,” Tinubu said.

He said that the APC was not threatened by opposition parties, in its quest for victory at the 2023 general election as it was committed to democratic and progressive principles.

“We are not threatened, we are committed to democratic principles and values, we are not bickering in any way,” the former two-term governor of Lagos State said.

This, he said, could not be said about other political parties which according to him, have been spewing fake statistics and wrong figures to Nigerians.

He thanked the party’s leadership and delegates for voting him as the presidential candidate in the March 26 presidential primaries.

He particularly thanked Adamu for his wisdom, support, and cooperation over the years, saying that they had come a long way, even as former state governors.

Tinubu said that his visit was to strategies for the presidential campaign, ahead of the Sept.28 commencement date with the party’s leadership with a view to ensuring effective electioneering campaign.

“Yes, I admit that democracy is challenging, very hard, and difficult a system to manage.

“We have seen challenges left and right outside international sphere of politics, but we are determined to ensure that we democratise Nigeria fully and remain a beckon of democracy as the largest nation of black race in the world,” he said.

He appealed to members of the party that may not be part of the presidential campaign team to be patient and to continue working for victory at all levels.

“I beg you not to be angry if you are left out because we are going to give you another responsibility. Not every member here can be a member of the presidential campaign council,” Tinubu said.

Earlier, Adamu expressed optimism that the APC would emerge victorious at the 2023 poll by God’s grace.

Some of the dignitaries accompanying Tinubu were his running mate, Sen. Kashim Shettima, and the Director-General APC Presidential Campaign Council, Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau.

Others were Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Secretary of the Campaign Council, James Faleke.
