27 ADC state chairmen pass Vote of No Confidence on Nwosu

Twenty-seven state chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have passed a Vote of No Confidence on the National Chairman, Mr Ralph Nwosu, calling for his resignation.

This is contained in a communiqué co-signed by the chairmen and read to newsmen by Mr Kingsley Ogga, the Kogi ADC chairman on Friday in Abuja.

Ogga said that the decision was based on the fact that the tenure of the chairman would end on Aug. 28 and hence the need for him to step aside from the office.

He said that the state chairmen also wanted the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) to pave way for a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs until a National Congress was held.

According to Ogga, the NWC should remain dissolved because its tenure has expired.

“Ralph Nwosu’s tenure is expected to end on Aug. 28. He has been the party chairman for good 17 years and constitutionally it is not even right.

“That is what we want and we have a communique on our demands. We don’t want this party to crumble, we have been rated as the third largest party in Nigeria, but the way the affairs are being handled is poor,” he said.

Ogga said that the chairmen wanted a caretaker committee immediately and a national convention be held within one month

Reacting, Nwosu expressed shock over the development, saying that election problem had long been resolved with the state party chairmen.

According to Nwosu, the NEC resolved that because of the upcoming election and because of the friction we had after our presidential primaries, we cannot afford to hold another convention at this time for the interest of the party.

“We have now decided to focus on our campaign because we don’t want any fragmentation.

“And the election for a new chairmanship of the party will come a year after now, the NEC all seated passed this and so on,” he said.

Nwosu also said that the party has taken certain decisions to enable it win the presidential poll in 2023 general elections.

He said that the party was also working to clinch at least 15 governorship seats as well as 60 per cent of the National Assembly seats and those of the States Houses of Assembly.

He said that the chairmen were being sponsored by foreign forces trying to distract the party from its target of winning the 2023 presidential poll.

Nwosu said that the party would remain unshaken in its quest to win the election.

He lauded the ADC Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC)and party supporters for choosing him as presidential running mate.

“I thank Kachikwu for this opportunity and the entire leadership of the party. This is a call to service and indeed a call to rescue Nigeria and I am ready for it.

“In the last two months I have been called by some political parties to be their party’s vice presidential candidate, but I turned them down for reasons best known to me.

“I am ready to serve and I have chosen ADC as the right platform and in 2019 when I ran for office, I promised to only support a southerner and that is what I am doing now,” he said.

Mr Ralph Nwosu, ADC National Chairman, urged the presidential candidate and his running mate to live up to expectations and uphold the party’s integrity.

“On behalf of NWC, the NEC, the board of trustees and all ADC members, I hereby unveil and present the party’s flag to Buhari as Dumebi Kachikwu’s running mate for the 2023 election.

Don’t be discouraged – ADC presidential candidate to Nigerians

The Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC),  Mr Dumebi Kachikwu, has urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by what they may perceive as the current difficulties in the country.

Delivering a message on “The state of the nation’’ late on Tuesday in Abuja,  Kachikwu listed a litany of problems plaguing the country, saying the ADC was on course to rescuing Nigeria from the ills.

He blamed the plethora of problems currently plaguing Nigeria on what he described as poor governance.

Kachikwu said the way for Nigeria to be pulled out of the woods was for the electorate to vote for competent people in 2023, to administer the country and bring about positive changes.

He cited untoward events in the country in recent months, including abductions, jail breaks, fuel scarcity and other ills.

He lamented that the current National Assembly was not living up to the expectations of the people who voted them into office.

“The most painful part of our collective suffering is that we are too afraid to say anything. Media houses operate in fear of having their licences suspended or revoked.

“Who will save the Nigerian people? Who will save us from ourselves,’’ the presidential candidate asked, criticising the judiciary for also not living up to expectations.

Kachikwu said the way out was not for Nigerians to run to other countries to seek better lives, advising that Nigerians should take the bulls by the horns and save their country from incompetent leaders.

He, however, pleaded with aggrieved individuals and groups, including university lecturers to return to their jobs to save the future of the country.

“Let us act now to save Nigeria and let us speak with one voice to make the difference for our beloved country,’’ the presidential candidate stated.

Kachikwu said that he was prepared to pay the supreme price to make Nigeria better, noting that he had been hounded by detractors since he offered himself to serve his fatherland.

“Several months ago when I announced my intention to run for the highest office in the land, It was clear within me that it was a suicide mission,“ he said.

He pleaded with Nigerians to support the ADC to bring the change the populace had been clamouring for.

ADC youth leader resigns from party with 50,000 loyalists

The National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Barrister Maurice Ebam has resigned from the party with 50,000 loyalists and supporters.

This development is contained in a letter addressed to the ADC National Chairman, Ralph Okey Nwosu on Thursday.

Ebam admitted in the letter that the party had been a training ground for him.

He said, “The ADC DNA is in my system. ADC has been a learning school for me. I did not just serve; I also learnt. It is a platform that has given opportunities to young people who are willing and I was given an opportunity to serve. It is clearly documented and posterity bears witness.

“It is with mixed feelings that I resign my membership of ADC. While serving both as a member and youth leader, I sacrificed my time and resources, and even put my career on the hold willingly and selflessly for the cause of nation-building with ADC as the platform. Now it’s time to contribute to nation-building, albeit on another platform.”

He promised to provide relevant assistance, revealing that he would leave the party with his foot soldiers.

“I have gathered over 50,000 passionate, organic and dedicated grassroot youths that will be moving with me following my consultation with youths from diverse strata, and various youth movements, and we have all unanimously concluded that decamping from ADC is the best option at this time.

“This is not a goodbye letter, as I will be available to render assistance to the best of my ability when beckoned on. Please, accept the assurance of my best wishes,” Ebam added.

Ebam’s resignation is coming about three weeks after the presidential aspirant of the party, Kingsley Moghalu, dumped the party over alleged poor handling of the primary elections held in Abeokuta.

2023: Moghalu rejects offers to be presidential candidate

After losing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, says he has opted out of the 2023 electoral cycle and will not run on any other political platform.

Recall that Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in 2019 elections, but defected to ADC in the build-up to the 2023 party primaries to pursue his presidential aspiration.

Also recall that Moghalu after losing the ADC primaries to Dumebi Kachikwu, on June 8 in Abeokuta, Ogun, resigned from the party.

Moghalu, a lawyer and political economist said in a statement on Monday that several invitations had been extended to him by a number of other political parties to still be presented as a presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections on their party platforms.

“Notwithstanding, I have opted not to be a candidate in this electoral cycle. At this time, I have no plans to become a member of any other political party for the purpose of the 2023 general elections.

“However, I intend to remain keenly engaged in our country’s immediate future, including the elections, with contributions that are appropriate and can be helpful to nation-building,” he said.

According to Moghalu, many political associates, supporters and other Nigerians have wondered over the past couple of weeks what his next steps will be since he resigned membership of ADC on grounds of principle after the party’s recent presidential primaries.

Moghalu said his campaign was always based on a vision for Nigeria as set out in his manifesto book,  Build, Innovate and Grow (BIG), and a desire to serve, “not on any inordinate personal ambition.”

The presidential hopeful said that he was humbled by the recognition of the strength and impact of his political brand in the country today by the parties that invited him to take their ticket.

“To my supporters who already have tickets from party primaries to contest for down-ballot electoral offices under the ADC, you have my full support for your electoral races and my prayers for your victory.

“To those who held tickets but resigned from the party in solidarity with me, and who still wish to contest elections, there are alternative avenues that can be explored.

“For those supporters and the general public who have intended to vote for me as a presidential candidate in the general elections had I emerged as one, I ask you to cast your support and ballot in the 2023 election to the candidate that comes closest to our shared vision of a Nigeria that is secured, united, and prosperous.

“The best chance to achieve this vision is under transformative leadership that represents a break from the old political order,” he said.

According to him, a better Nigeria is possible and the journey to bring this vision into reality is a most urgent and essential one.

“Our children must experience a tomorrow that is much better than our today,” he added.

PDP alleges vote buying in ongoing Ekiti guber election

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of vote buying in the ongoing Ekiti State Governorship election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the PDP shared a photo via its official Facebook page of Abiodun Oyebanji, the APC Gubernatorial Candidate in the ongoing election allegedly giving money to an electorate.

The party also alleged that thugs sponsored by APC leaders in Egbe Ekiti chased voters away from the polling unit.

A video currently circulating on social media shows operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arresting some persons sharing money to electorates during the ongoing election.

Earlier, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) dispersed a group of residents allegedly being bribed at Mobil filling station, opposite St. Michael’s School in Ajilosun area of Ado-Ekiti.

A correspondent, who monitored voting across the state, observed a large crowd being dispersed by a team of NSCDC operatives, led by acting Deputy Commandant, Haruna Muhammed.

Mr Musa Faruk, a resident of the area, said that some suspected political agents had been distributing between N10,000 and N12,000 to the voters who agreed to vote for their preferred governorship candidate.

He explained that at polling units one and two of ward four at St. Michael Nursery and Primary School, the agents would have observed who voters had voted for before giving them the money.

Another voter, Veronica Famigun, who was in the midst of the crowd, said that vote buying had been ongoing for hours, expressing happiness over the way in which those engaging in the act were dispersed by NSCDC operatives.

She stressed the need for security agents to also beam their searchlight on other polling units across the state where such acts might also be perpetrated.

Speaking on the development, Muhammed frowned at the menace of vote buying by political agents, saying that his men had no choice than to disperse those engaging in the practice.

He said that it was important for citizens to understand that elections should be free and fair.

The NSCDC chief advised parents to restrain their wards and keep them indoor as anybody caught in the act of vote buying would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

However, nobody was arrested at the scene, as the suspected perpetrators immediately took to their heels. More security personnel had been drafted to the location to prevent re-occurrence.

ADC candidate decries electoral process in Ekiti election

Meanwhile, Dr Wole Oluyede, Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Party (ADC) has condemned the conduct of the ongoing governorship election in Ikere-Ekiti area of Ekiti, describing it as a shamble.

Oluyede in his country home, Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday said that the election was “opaque and vulnerable to manipulation and characterised by many problems”.

He identified logistic shortfalls, alleged disruption of electoral process by some party agents at the polling units and intimidation by security agents as part of the problems.

The ADC candidate said that many of his people supporters were arrested while trying to exercise their civic responsibilities in various polling units in Ikere-Ekiti.

Oluyede said he had reported the incident to the Brigade Commander, adding that nothing has been done so far to arrest the situation.

“This is an indication that those arrested will be disenfranchised.

“Lots of my people have been arrested for just no reason and I am totally disappointed in the security agents as they have all compromised,” he said.

Describing the situation as so unfortunate, the candidate said he had withdrawn his people from the polling units to avoid further arrest.
