You are not a threat to us – APC reacts to ADC’s ‘witch-hunt’ allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its recent allegations of plotting to undermine and destabilize the growing opposition coalition in Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru reports that ADC via Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary on Monday in a statement alleged that former ADC state chairmen and key officials in the North-East and North-West were summoned to a secret meeting with top government officials in President Tinubu-led administration .

However, speaking to Punch, APC Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim, urged Nigerians to disregard any statements from the ADC spokesman, insisting that Abdullahi once admitted he couldn’t serve as a party’s Publicity Secretary without lying.

He labelled Abdullahi a habitual liar, maintaining that the APC does not see the ADC as a threat.

According to him, “Well, I think for Bolaji Abdullahi to make such sweeping statements, there is the need for him to revisit his conscience and tell Nigerians that he is a repentant spokesperson.

“This is the same Bolaji Abdullahi that said the most difficult job he had done in his life was being the spokesperson of the APC, because, according to him, you cannot do the job without lying. Is he saying now that he has repented from lying, or is he still lying?

“We came on board the publicity department of the APC after he left, and we have not seen anywhere where the party has a creed that directs its spokesperson to lie. So, if Bolaji lied when he was the spokesperson of the APC, he did that out of his lying instinct, not the party’s instinct.

“So, I leave Nigerians with this: the same person who said he trained to lie, or he was trained to lie, what he is doing now is nothing but what he admitted to doing, lying.”

The APC Publicity Secretary stated that the ADC has been in disarray since the day it was unveiled.

“So, the ADC leaders are a bunch of liars and that they are not a threat to APC. They cannot be, because they don’t have what it takes to be a threat to the ruling APC. You see, this is a coalition that is already in disarray. They are not united. They’re having problems. People came to the coalition meeting under false pretext, under false invitation.

“Some were told it was going to be a PDP caucus meeting, that’s why they were there. Some said they were invited for a different purpose, only for them to be photographed and flashed across various media houses as members of the coalition and they are not.”

ADC raises alarm of plots to sow confusion in coalition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm over a desperate plot to undermine and destabilise the growing opposition coalition in Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary.

Abdullahi alleged that former ADC state chairmen and key officials in the North-East and North-West were summoned to a secret meeting with top government officials.

“We have credible intelligence that the aim of this meeting is not national security or peacebuilding,” Abdullahi said.

He described the move as an attempt to co-opt these individuals into a fabricated plot against the opposition coalition.

“This is not politics; this is outright sabotage,” Abdullahi declared.

He said the motive was to sow confusion, delegitimise ADC’s new leadership, and derail its growing momentum as the face of the opposition.

Abdullahi, who is also the coalition’s national spokesperson, said it formed part of a wider effort to entrench one-party rule.

He claimed the July 1 coalition declaration and July 2 ADC unveiling had clearly unsettled the ruling party.

“The coalition is an idea whose time has come,” he said, declaring the party belonged to all Nigerians tired of lies and hardship.

“It belongs to those who want to restore decency, vision, and justice to governance,” he added.

He vowed that the party would resist any attempt to impose one-party dictatorship by all democratic means.

Abdullahi called on President Bola Tinubu to take note of the actions of some of his appointees and rein them in.

He further urged the President to prove to Nigerians that he remains committed to democratic principles.

Governor Oyebanji opens up on defection claims

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has denied an online report claiming he has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it misleading and false.

This is contained in a statement on Monday by Mr Yinka Oyebode, Special Adviser on Media and Chief Press Secretary to the governor.

Oyebode said the report, spread by unnamed individuals, falsely claimed that Governor Oyebanji and some officials were being led into ADC by former Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

“For clarity, Governor Oyebanji and all public office holders mentioned remain firmly committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and have no link with the ADC,” Oyebode said.

He added that the governor has, since the start of the Fourth Republic in 1999, consistently remained within the progressive political movement in Ekiti State.

“He is among the few politicians who have never defected from the progressive fold in the state,” he noted.

Oyebode accused certain individuals of trying to exploit the governor’s relationship with Fayemi to sow discord between him and President Bola Tinubu.

“Unfortunately for these mischief makers, President Tinubu is a strategic leader who can see through their agenda and antics,” he explained.

He urged residents of Ekiti State to ignore the “childish media attack” allegedly orchestrated by desperate politicians eyeing the governorship seat.

“Now that INEC has announced the primary election date, let them be brave enough to present their ambitions to APC members,” Oyebode added.

ADC woos PDP, APC members in Ondo

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, has expressed its readiness to welcome members of the opposition parties into its fold.

Mr Oluwambe Ogunbameru, the party’s Chairman in the council, made this known while welcoming 25 new members into the party on Monday in Okitipupa.

ADC which was launched last week in Abuja as a coalition to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 general elections.

Ogunbameru affirmed that the growth of the party recently reflected a larger wave of political consciousness across the country.

“The expansion of the party is a move that guarantees liberty for all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion, or region and paves the way for a just and accountable leadership.

“I praise the decision of the new entrants, because the ADC remains a party committed to national unity, freedom and good governance. This is a very good and welcome move that is sacrosanct for all genuine Nigerians.

“In a significant stride toward building a stronger democratic future, the ADC in Okitipupa Local Government welcome new members and poised to welcome more members into its fold,” Ogunbaneru said.

He called on all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with ADC to ensure the restoration of democratic values and integrity in governance, saying “Nigerians shall be rescued and Nigeria shall be great again.”

ADC: Memories of a past we never passed – By Ikeddy Isiguzo

    By Ikeddy ISIGUZO

THE buzz about a coalition that would breathe life into Nigeria, no matter how small, has collapsed into the African Democratic Party, ADC, a testimony to how mired we are in the past.

We are in a present worse than our past, even if we decide to count from as recently as 2015 when the All Progressives Congress, APC, lied its way to power with credentials and non-credentials that have thrown Nigeria into circumstances that appear irredeemable.

APC denuded Nigeria, deluded Nigerians, and left the country in a state where law and order no longer have meaning, rather where justice is brazenly ignored, yet it is still delivered with sardonic elegance, to mock us in line with their shouts of “go to court” after their illegalities.

See how complicated APC has made Nigeria. We have a President who everything about him is cloudy – name, education, age, parentage, what he did or didn’t do in Chicago. His supporters are digging in, promoting these infamies, and reminding Nigerians that there is no opposition to Tinubu in 2027.

Mere mortals speak like the Almighty. They speak as if they control the next moment. They are cocksure about their chances. This time they may not bother with the voters.

It did not start with Tinubu though Tinubu and company laid the foundations that brought Muhammadu Buhari to power telling all types of stories including the one about an ordinary secondary school certificate that Katsina State Ministry of Education, issued a modern result with Buhari’s modern picture. Please note that Katsina State which was created 26 years after Buhari left secondary school issued that result. West African Examinations Council, WAEC, after hesitations over Buhari’s candidacy its examinations, brought a certificate to him. The celebration at the presidential villa that day was as if all Nigeria’s problems had been solved

Even when Buhari removed Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria without following constitutional routes, his supporters applauded him. The Supreme Court belatedly confirmed that Onnoghen’s removal was illegal.

Buhari was the law. Tinubu stepped in with similar attitude of conquering the country, treating the law as he pleases.

Nigerians abused, lied to, held spell-bound by promises that if a fraction was fulfilled, would have changed the country, have sought help, in the past 15 years to retrieve the country but the wrong champions often stepped up whether as politicians, judges, journalists to change Nigeria.

Where there are changes, they have been in intentional re-directing of the flow of the nation’s resources to private pockets and purposes.

The media falls from one incredible mis-step to the other. It is now most notorious for missing moments or messing them up entirely. In keeping with the new role of making the horrendous times more miserable, the leadership Nigeria Union Journalism, NUJ, rolled its 70th into an ignoble affair with the Lifetime Achievement Award on Media Empowerment to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello whose regime was known for maltreating journalists. What did Bello do for NUJ? It has emerged that he impacted journalism, according to NUJ, by prioritising the welfare of journalists in Kogi State and organising training for them. These were the most profound things anyone did for NUJ in 70 years.

Bello, a suspect in alleged corruption cases, has a running legal battle with EFCC. He is  just a suspect, another explanation for Tinubu congratulating Bello on his 50th birthday.

Terrorism continues. The attacks and killings in different parts of the country have abated or the reported cases have decreased.

Prices of food, medical services, education, keep soaring. Those who benefit from the mess parade rosy statistics that stand taller than the poverty in the land. The people’s patience is running out, and the people are availably exploitable.

ADC lands in the midst of the confused directions. The promoters wear garbs of the new saviours.

They are well-known to us. Their propaganda, outright lies, and threats to make Nigeria ungovernable in 2015 are still loud and clear, years after running campaigns to grab power. They had no qualms.

What did they do for Nigerians in the last 10 years except to worsen situations? What are they still talking about except power, never the people

Their eyes are on who becomes President in 2027. Nothing more. It is the same parochial programme that purposes power over people. They, like APC, place grabbing power over everything.

Has it occurred to ADC that the most urgent assignment today is to retrieve whatever is left of our country? What are these principalities doing in their various parts of the country to ensure that there would be a country left in 2027?

Are they interested in measures that will stopping the attacks and killings in different parts of Nigeria? Are they still looking at challenges of Nigeria in terms of the North and South?

One look at the promoters as they line up for photos, with their smiles, show prominent individuals who led Nigerians through the torments of the last 10 years. They are no apologetic. There are no hints that they understand how badly their self ambitions hurt Nigerians.

They are on the march again to be President, Vice-President and the like while other Nigerians keep suffering. If they were steadfast, if they had conviction that power was for the benefit of Nigerians, we would not have ended up with a devious past that remains our present.

The damage of 2015 was too deep. There has been no successful rescue mission. The people we need in 2027 are believers in a new Nigeria where “no man is oppressed”, a Nigeria founded on “justice”‘ which implicates “the security and welfare of the people”‘ as “the primary purpose of government”.

Neither APC nor ADC fits that frame today. Let the searches continue.

    Finally…

NYESOM Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, will easily fill the dance step gaps that the departure of Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir el-Nasir from the All Progressives Congress, APC, will cause. A dancing trio that included Adam Oshiomhole was the biggest promise an APC rally held.

The more sight part of that programme is when el-Rufai and Oshiomhole, tall as they are, bending so low that only their brooms are visible. Wike has been adding new steps to his repository. An advisory for APC – Wike only dances to beats from his personal band once Port Harcourt-based but now resident in Abuja to match the demanding schedules of Wike’s office.

ABUJA needs Tinubu’s attention when he returns from his very successful cultural trip to St. Lucia. You will hear more about St. Lucia whose students Tinubu has promised scholarships in Nigeria, though Abuja’s primary school students have been sitting at home since February 2025 when their teachers started a strike over unpaid wage.

Gilbert Chagoury, the one you know, has a huge influence on St. Lucia. He is the island’s Ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican) and UNESCO where Chagoury led the campaign that won St. Lucia the presidency of the UNESCO Executive Board from 2023-2025.

  • Coalition: ADC now political home for power-hungry veterans – Ex-APC Diaspora Chair

Coalition: ADC now political home for power-hungry veterans – Ex-APC Diaspora Chair

Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in South Africa, Mr Bola Babarinde, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political home for “power-hungry veterans.”

Babarinde made the remark in a statement made available to NAN on Sunday in Lagos.

The former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar-led National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement with some aggrieved APC leaders on Tuesday adopted the ADC as a platform to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Since this announcement was made, a couple of opposition politicians especially from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party and others have declared support for ADC.

Babarinde said: “In any thriving democracy, political alignment is rooted in values, conviction, and consistency.

“Unfortunately, the Nigerian political space continues to drift dangerously away from these ideals.

“The recent regrouping of prominent political actors under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is the latest evidence of a system in moral and ideological crisis.

“The ADC, once a fringe party with modest influence, has suddenly become the new political home for an unlikely coalition of power-hungry veterans, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, and former Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.

“All of them, having either wrecked their former parties or failed to achieve their personal ambitions within them, now find shelter in ADC, ironically branding it a “third force” for national salvation.”

According to him, this is not a coalition of ideologue but a gathering of political drifters.

He noted that the same people who had occupied the highest levels of power in PDP, APC, and LP had converged in ADC, “not because of shared vision, but because of individual calculations.”

Babarinde said: “What binds them is not policy or principle but ambition, specifically, the laughable idea that they all want to run for President, just for one term.”

“This charade exposes a political culture where ideology is expendable, and honour is negotiable.

“These politicians have, over the years, shown a disturbing pattern: When the platform no longer serves their ambition, they abandon it.

“When internal democracy threatens their dominance, they destroy it. When the people demand accountability, they switch parties and rebrand themselves as saviours.

“Their sudden love for ADC is not a fresh start; it’s a strategic detour. It’s less about rescuing Nigeria and more about rescuing their relevance.”

He said that each man involved in the coalition carried the baggage of past failures, unfulfilled promises, and public disillusionment, “yet, they present themselves again as if the Nigerian people suffer from collective amnesia.”

Babarinde, while contrasting this with the political trajectory of Tinubu, described the leaders of coalition as the band of opportunists seeking reinvention under new party labels.

He said that Tinubu had demonstrated remarkable political consistency.

“From Tinubu’s early days in the Alliance for Democracy (AD), he nurtured that platform into the Action Congress (AC), evolved it into the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and later led its merger into the ruling APC,” Babarinde said.

    ADC woos Governor Dauda Lawal

Kabiru Garba, Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara, has extended an invitation to Governor Dauda Lawal to join the party.

Addressing a press conference in Gusau on Friday, Garba said no fewer than 100 political actors from different political parties in the state had so far joined the ADC.

He said: “We want to extend a formal invitation to Gov. Dauda Lawal to joint the party to bring more development to the state.

“Doors are widely open to receive all defectors irrespective of their positions. We want to assure everyone of our readiness to give both new and old members equal treatment for effective democratic process.”

Garba attributed the resolution of some political figures in the state to join the party to the sterling leadership qualities demonstrated by ADC leaders through justice, fairness and equal opportunity to all members.

“We have receive over 100 political actors from various political parties, and we are giving them orientation on the party doctrine to enable them know how to go about their political activities within the party constitution.

“All intended defectors should come through their ward leadership before reaching local government, then state up to federal level.

“We believe in recognising grassroots politics because that’s the best way to reflect the mandate of the electorate,” he said.

‘Tragedy’ befalls ADC barely 48 hours after opposition leaders confirmed coalition

The official website of African Democratic Party (ADC), has crashed barely 48 hours after opposition leaders announced the adoption of the party, ahead of its 2027 presidential election.

TheNewsGuru reports that the coalition formerly took over the structure of the ADC at an event held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua centre in Abuja on Wednesday.

Former Senate President David Mark took over the ADC as it’s acting National Chairman, while former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, will act as it’s National Secretary.

The Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP)’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai were all present.

Plateau ADC chairman supports coalition, chides 2023 presidential candidate

Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State, Mrs Hanatu Gagara, has thrown her weight behind the coalition of other political parties with the ADC.

Gagara, on Thursday in Jos, described the unveiling of the coalition on Wednesday as a historic and commendable event that will continue to reverberate in the annals of history.

The visibly elated chairman said that the development was a result of many years of diligence, perseverance, commitment and hard work of ADC stakeholders.

“This party started about 20 years ago, and until recently, only one person, the former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, has been funding and taking care of the party.

“Our former national chairman and others have shown incredible dedication, and we all must continue in that spirit.

“It wasn’t easy for him at all, so seeing so many people coming in is something I’m genuinely happy about,” she stated.

She chided the ADC presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Dumebi Kachukwu, for opposing the coalition that was capable of transforming the nation’s political landscape.

Gagara said that anyone who opposes the new development was simply anti-people and was averse to Nigeria’s democratic advancement.

“I listened to what he said, but I want to assure you that I am also a state chairman, and he was a candidate, not a current member.

“Since he became a candidate in 2022, I haven’t heard from him. I’ve been in the party for 17 years, so I’m not new here. Naturally, I know what is happening within the party.

“When the coalition came about 18 months ago, we were part of the negotiations and discussions. So, for anyone to claim that the state chairmen were not involved, it’s simply not true.

“We were involved right from the beginning, attending all the meetings and discussions. To say otherwise is misleading,” she explained.

Plateau ADC chairman emphasised that the main goal of the party was not just to grab power but to move this country forward.

According to her, the excruciating pains Nigerians were going through under the current administration spurred them into action.

“We felt that coming together as a united team would enable us to make a real difference. If power comes our way, we won’t reject it, but it’s not the primary goal.

“ADC stands for the Rule of Law, and that’s something we hold dear. Nigerians are law-abiding, and when a law is established, people generally follow it.

“When things go wrong, it’s because laws are not properly enforced. So, when new members come in, we will guide them on how to align with our ideology, and I believe they will follow our lead.

“Everyone will be treated equally. This is a party where we welcome anyone with like-minded ideology.

“For those that are on the fence, I say: give it time. When they see what is happening, they will believe and eventually join us. We are just starting, but in due time, they will see the progress,” she added.

She encouraged all members to be patient and to work hard, saying it was through hard work that they had gotten this far.

Coalition: Atiku supporters nationwide told to join ADC

The Nigerian Youths for Atiku (NYFA) has issued a directive to its members in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) immediately.

Recall that the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar-led National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement, with some aggrieved APC leaders, have adopted the ADC as a platform to unseat Tinubu in 2027.

NYFA Founder and President, Prof. Gold Emmanuel, who gave the directive in a statement by the group’s Director- General, Mr Dare Dada, on Thursday in Lagos, said that the group remained a critical  part of Abubakar’s structure.

Emmanuel said that the directive followed the adoption of ADC by Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him,  the decision was made at an emergency meeting of the group in Lagos

Emmanuel said: “Members of NYFA must do the right thing by joining the ADC immediately.

“It is also important that the ADC aligns with the majority.,”she said

She said Nigerians were not happy with the APC administration and were yearning for change.

Emmanuel added that the group had been critical of the present administration’s policies such as interest rate hike, subsidy removal and electricity tariff hike.

She said the group strongly believe that Atiku and other political leaders in ADC would make a difference in 2027.

Emmanuel said that the NYFA’s unwavering support for Abubakar was rooted in the  group’s strong belief in his commitment to restructuring Nigeria into a more productive economic federation.

“We also trust in his vision to reform our electoral system—particularly by ensuring transparency and accountability at local government and state collation centers, where electoral malpractice is most prevalent,” she said.

Recall that ex-Senate President David Mark and ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola were named ADC Interim Chairman and Secretary, respectively, on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Mark officially launched the ADC as the platform for the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement.
