  • Birthday Moments: How I felt when my old girlfriend came to me for prayers – Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye is marking his 78th birthday today. His church members who call him Daddy G.O, that is General Overseer (of the Redeemed Christian Church of God) are paying tributes to him. Politicians, captains of industry and many others who admire him are already showering praises on him like confetti.

In other words, it goes without saying that Adeboye is admired all over because of his pious disposition. He preaches against sin. However, the Pastor is humble and blunt enough to reveal that he was as lustful as every raw young man. He had girlfriends too.

This was revealed by Bisi Daniel, journalist, writer, public relations consultant and author of Stories of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, in a tribute (“Pastor Adeboye at 78: A journalist’s experience with him”).

    In Adeboye’s own words:

“Before I was born again, I was a very rotten boy. I had two things going for me that made it extremely easy to have girlfriends. I was a sportsman and I was also a photographer. I’m yet to meet a lady who can say no when you say you want to snap her; I haven’t met one, particularly if you have the right kind of language.

Things like “Ahh, whoa! What am I looking at? Where has this sun been hidden? I have never seen this sunshine before. Do you mind if I record you?

You know the elders have a saying; they say the mouth of the old woman looks like she never sucked breast. Hmm, when you see Pastor Adeboye you think he was born a saint. No, no, no, Thank God for His power to change. I had so many girl friends that at a stage I didn’t even know the number. And for each girlfriend there was a birthday. I had so many birthdays, one birthday for each girlfriend. I am just telling you this to let you know that God can pick one up from the pit of hell and make him or her His servant. Among all these girlfriends, there was one that was closest to me.

But after some time we separated: she went her way, I went my way. She got married, I got married. But in the meantime, I had become born again.

The lady had a child that was born lame, so somebody told her if she took the child to a certain pastor he would pray for the child to walk. So she came to the mission house.

I was in the living room but she saw some people on the veranda who asked for the pastor and was told I was inside. So she opened the door and saw me. Laughter, laughter, laughter.

And you know what old flames do, ‘Aaaah long time no see? Where have you been, how has life been treating you, excetra, excetra?

When we finished, she said, ‘I want to see the pastor.’

I said, ‘Yes, I am the pastor.’

    ‘You?’ She asked, surprised

    ‘Yes,’ I said

She shouted, ‘You will pray and God will answer?’

Let somebody shout Hallelujah! I prayed and she got her miracle.”

Now Adeboye sticks only to wife, Folu

    The Man, Adeboye

Adeboye was born on 2 March, 1942 in Ifewara, near Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. He went to the University of Nigeria, (UNN) in Nsukka but because of the Nigeria Civil War, he completed his first degree in the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1967. That same year, according to writings by his admirers on him, he married Foluke Adenike. They have four children namely: Adeolu Adeboye, Bolu Adubi (nee Adeboye), Leke Adeboye and Dare Adeboye.

“In 1969, he obtained a master’s degree in hydrodynamics drom the University of Lagos . He joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God in 1973 and began interpreting Yoruns to English by Pastor Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi. In 1975, he obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos. He holds a position as Professor of Mathematics at University of Lagos.

  • Paying less than your tithe is deception to God – Adeboye

General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has said any Christian paying less than what he or she is supposed to pay as tithe is deception to God.

He said God could not be deceived.

“Paying less than your tithe is deception to God; it would have been better if you didn’t pay it at all,” he said.

The man of God added that telling “a lie to the marriage counsellor in your Church that you and your fiancee/fiance have not had any sexual relations before marriage is trying to deceive God. As an usher, changing the remittance figures is trying to deceive God.

“It is dangerous and thus, has grave consequences. Don’t do it. Is there any area where you have been trying to deceive God? Repent now.”

Adeboye, on his Instagram page said “It is impossible to deceive God because He knows all things, including the thoughts of your heart and the motives behind your actions. In Samuel 15:13-15 for example, King Saul told Samuel that he had already obeyed God’s commandments as regards the Amalekites.

“However, the latter heard the noise of animals. The King then lied that they were for sacrifice to God.
Why would anyone try to deceive God? In the first place, he should have asked himself if oxen sound differently for the Prophet to know which is from Amalek and which is not. He should have known that Samuel was acting based on divine knowledge. You can’t hide anything from God!

“Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit and never got a chance to repent (Acts 5:1-11). They would not have died if they had simply been honest about how much they sold the land for and how much they kept back. They were not forced to sell; they just wanted to deceive the Holy Spirit and they paid dearly for it. Do not attempt to deceive God.”

According to him, “Many years ago, when the Redeemed Christian Church of God was small, one man joined us and became very active almost immediately. In fact, we thought he was a blessing until God revealed his true identity. I was on a lengthy fast when he came to see me. There and then, God told me he was a spy, operating from the church so he would not be easily found.

“I confronted him and he tried to cover up. I told him he wouldn’t last beyond the next seven days. Within the week, God exposed him and he was picked by the then military government of Nigeria.”

  • Don’t marry women who can’t cook – Adeboye advises eligible bachelors

General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has warned men not to marry women who cannot cook.

Adeboye, in series of tweets on Monday said a woman needed to know how to do chores and cook because the husband could not be eating out all the time.

“My sons, don’t marry a lady who cannot cook. She needs to know how to do chores and cook because you cannot afford to be eating out all the time,” he admonished.

Adeboye also x-rayed the power of praise as a powerful instrument, saying it attracted God’s presence.

According to him, “If you have been struggling with a problem, try praise. It can change your life because as you praise God, the earth releases her increase and you will be blessed.”

He also has a message for troublemakers, saying “Now, if the peacemaker is a child of God, then whose child is the troublemaker? When you always choose to quarrel over peace, who do you resemble?”

The man of God further charged Christian men not to marry women who are worldly.

“My sons, don’t marry a girl who is worldly. If you do, you have carried what you’ll worship for the rest of your life,” he said,

General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye says Dr Uma Ukpai, President of Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association Incorporated, is never his Spiritual Father as being claimed in reports on social media.

He said his spiritual father remained Late Reverend (Pa) Josiah Akindayomi, the Founder and General Superintendent of RCCG.

Adeboye was quoted in an online report suggesting that Uma Ukpai is his spiritual father.

Reacting to this, Adeboye, in a tweet said the report was simply fake news.

“This is to bring to the attention of the general public that the news circulating around the internet and social media space concerning me saying Reverend Dr Uma Ukpai is my spiritual father is very WRONG.

“Reverend Dr Uma Ukpai is one of the highly respected Generals in faith in Nigeria and he is someone I hold in high esteem.

“That being said, my Spiritual Father remains Late Reverend (Pa) Josiah Akindayomi, the Founder and General Superintendent of RCCG.

“I wish everybody a wonderful fasting season and may God keep us all in our dealings in Jesus name,” he said.

Adeboye demands 50% cut in governors’, lawmakers’ salary

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged 36 governors and the Houses of Assemblies to reduce their salary and emoluments by 50 per cent.

He said this would ensure that there are sufficient funds to tackle the challenges facing education, health and other critical sectors in the country.

Adeboye spoke on Sunday during the special prayer and thanksgiving service for the New Year at RCCG headquarters in Ebutte-Metta, Lagos.

The event, tagged: Unbeatable Champions, was attended by thousands of Christians from across the country.

The eminent cleric noted that the nation’s budget for health, education and infrastructure, compared to those of advanced countries, shows that Nigeria has a long way to in its quest for development.

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, regretted that Nigeria’s budgets mostly end up in private pockets in the guise of salaries and emolument because priority is not given to critical sectors of the economy.

The cleric said this should worry Nigerians.

He urged the Federal Government to emulate the developed countries by increasing budget for education, health and infrastructure.

Adeboye noted that the N30,000 minimum wage for civil servants has become a subject of hot debate as some governors are not willing to pay it.

He expressed worry that the salary of the governors and their cronies remain intact while timely payment of the salary of civil servants suffers.

  • Adeboye to worshippers: ‘Our turnaround begins moment we say enough is enough’

General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised worshippers of the church to be bold to confess their challenges.

He also urged Nigerians to exercise divine faith in order to attract God’s intervention in their challenges.

Adeboye gave the charge on Saturday morning during the 2019 Holy Ghost Congress holding at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Adeboye who took his sermon from Mark 10: 46-52, the story of blind Bartimaeus said “our turnaround and blessings begin the moment we say enough is enough.

“The moment we say no to suffering, sickness, loneliness, fruitless efforts and barrenness in our lives, our turnaround begins.

“As you go out today, remember the story of blind Bartimaeus; problems are not limited to poor homes, you will be amazed that many area boys are from wealthy homes.

“Let us say without any doubt that we are tired of suffering, the devil does not respect titles, sickness does not recognise that you have doctorate degrees,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to trust God for solutions to whatever challenges they were facing.

The pastor further stated that God loves to spring surprises, saying, “Nigerians should tap into this character for their turnaround.”

  • How I was trapped, saved by divine intervention during Nigerian Civil War – Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has revealed how he was saved by divine intervention during the Nigerian Civil War.

Appealing to Nigerians against reprisal attacks on South Africans over recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa during the September Holy Ghost Service of the church at the Redemption Camp, he said his experience at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has taught him that retaliation leads to escalation of crisis.

He said before his message for the service with the theme, ‘Lifted into Glory’,” I want to make a very special appeal to you; I want to beg you not to think of retaliation against South Africa. And I will tell you why. I have seen a bit in my 77 years on earth.

In 1966, just before the Civil War, Colonel (he was Colonel then) Odumegwu Ojukwu announced on radio that he could no longer guarantee the safety of those who came from outside the Eastern Region; he told all of us who were not Easterners to go home. I was a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (Eastern Part of Nigeria) then.

“Our brothers of Eastern origin sympathised with us because our studies in Nsukka was coming to an abrupt end. The university authorities called a meeting after which they told us they were making arrangements to transport those of us who were not of Eastern origin back to our Regions.

But then suddenly, news came over the radio that the students of the University of Ibadan had gathered all the brethren from the East and were determined to hold them until everybody from Western Region in our university had returned home.

Immediately, everything changed! All our friends from the Eastern Region began to hold meetings as to how to keep all of us who were from other Regions in the East until the return of all of their own brothers.“In my life, I can could count three or four occasions when I had known fear in the real sense of the word. I knew it that day!

“There was a man among us from Ekiti, who was noted for expensive jokes.
While we were trembling in fear, he said: “Well, my own case is simple, my wife has just had a son, if I die now, nobody will say I never came into the world.’

  • CAN, Pastor Adeboye tackle Buhari-led govt over RUGA

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has told the Federal Government to jettison the planned RUGA scheme, saying the association was opposed to the implementation of the programme anywhere in Nigeria.

The President of CAN, Pastor Samson Ayokunle, announced the position of the association at a church leaders’ summit in Lagos on Saturday.

“We, the Christian body call on the Federal Government to immediately suspend and abrogate the RUGA settlement programme,’’Ayokunle stated.

According to him, anything that smacks of mutual distrust should be avoided in the interest of national unity.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said that he supported the opposition of CAN to RUGA settlement.

“CAN must do everything possible to let the world know that CAN is one. Whatever the CAN president says is the final,” he said.

On May 21, the Federal Government approved what it termed the RUGA settlement scheme, to curb open grazing of animals nationwide.

RUGA entails the settlement of animals by farmers in an organised place with the provision of necessary amenities.

But Ayokunle said CAN is opposed to the policy.

He said also that the perception by many Christians that CAN had not been showing enough interest in national issues was wrong.

“Let me state it here that our position, although it may differ from that of government is not opposition but a way of helping those in government.

“Our position is a way of helping those in government by calling their attention to the dangers that may come from the proposed action if adequate caution is not considered.

“We, the Christian body also kick against the Control of Waterways Bill now before the National Assembly. The Control of Waterways by the Federal Government Bill before the National Assembly should be rejected.

“Waterways in each locality should be controlled by local authorities. God created the waterways there. At most they should be controlled by State Governments.”

The CAN chief advised the Federal Government to intensify efforts on the establishment of modern ranching facilities, abattoirs and meat processing firms.

The Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in a message, said that building of the nation is in the hands of God.

He pleaded with Nigerians to pray to God for supernatural intervention in the affairs of Nigeria, saying: “we need to cry to God to help Nigeria.”

Osinbajo was represented by the Chaplain of Aso Rock Chapel, Pastor Sheyi Malomo.

Church leaders at the summit include Pastor Felix Omobude, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

Elder Napo Emuchey, President of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches, Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite, President of the Christian Council of Nigeria and Benebo Fubara-Manuel, among others.

The theme of the summit is: “RUGA: The Church Response in the 21st Century.’’
