I tried to mend fences with Aregbesola’s faction in APC – Adegboyega Oyetola

Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has explained that he tried to reconcile with the Osun Progressives, TOP, a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State but to no avail.

TOP is a faction within Osun APC loyal to the former interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola.

According to Oyetola, he tried to reconcile for good three years but it didn’t work out.

He made this known in Osogbo on Thursday while speaking at a reception by party members to celebrate his appointment as Minister.

He commended the party leadership in the state for the steps taken to sanitise the party.

Oyetola who served as governor between, 2018 and 2012 urged  members to accommodate members who are sober and ready to return to the party, he assured them that the party will return to power in 2026.

In his words, “I want to assure you that we are going to reclaim Osun in 2026 by the grace of God. I want to applaud all the party loyalists and leadership of APC in Osun.

“Some members of the party did anti-party, but I want to commend you for your steadfastness. I was welcomed into the state with massive respect, right from Asejire, Ikire, Gbongan, Akoda-Ede, and finally, here. I am so glad. APC is strong in Osun.

“I am in support of measures taken to sanitize the party by suspending those that did anti-party within APC. This party is what I am giving my all to see to its success. Many of you have aspirations within this party, so when some people want to wreck and destabilize it, they should be dealt with.

“I want to implore the remaining members to be loyal and steadfast. Those who are yet to mingle with factional groups should be considered. There is room for reconciliation, it is good, I am in support of it but anybody that you will reconcile must show remorse and be sober, he should admit his mistake and vow not to repeat same,” Oyetola said.

Recall that the APC in Osun expelled and suspended some of its members.

It was alleged that the expulsions and suspensions targeted Aregbesola loyalists and TOP members.

The Osun APC defending its action, had said the affected members were involved in anti-party activities.

  • Oyetola will never congratulate Adeleke – Osun APC

Oyetola will never congratulate Adeleke – Osun APC

Following the Judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja that upheld Governor Ademola Adeleke as the governor of the Osun State, the state  chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has said that Governor, Adeleke is underserving of Adegboyega Oyetola’s congratulatory message.

This was disclosed via a statement signed by his acting chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal and obtained in Osogbo the Osun state capital.

The statement was in reaction to governor Adeleke’s interview with Arise Television on Monday where he stated that he was expecting a congratulating message from Oyetola after the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

Responding further to Adeleke’s claim in the interview, Lawal asked what would be the basis for Oyetola to congratulate Adeleke when there was an ongoing election process.

Lawal stated that such a request which was a tall order with no justification to warrant the congratulations of Adeleke by Oyetola over a subsisting election matter which was Supreme Court-bound.

The statement further read, “I don’t understand the thinking of Adeleke. Is he saying that Oyetola should congratulate him for killing no fewer than 30 members and supporters of our party to secure his pyrrhic victory?

“If Adeleke has conscience, does he want to pretend that he wasn’t aware that his party, the PDP, turned Osun State to a killing field before, during and after the elections, the results of which he is dubiously flaunting to feign non-existing popularity and acceptability?

“Adeleke will have to wait till eternity for a congratulatory message from Oyetola whom he robbed in the daylight during the elections that were won for him by the militia wing of his administration. If congratulatory messages are being sold in an open market, it is not a hyperbolic expression to state that our candidate, Oyetola, cannot extend one to you for one Kobo.

“Why would a potential respondent in the Supreme Court in an extant matter demand for a congratulatory message from an appellant if not for an ulterior motive or lack of knowledge of the workings of the judicial endeavours?

Adeleke does not merit Oyetola’s congratulatory message as it is being forcefully demanded by the governor as it is not for frivolous ventures.”

In its January 27, 2023 majority verdict, the Justice Tertse Kume-led tribunal annulled Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the winner of the poll.

The tribunal cited reasons of over voting in some areas as the reason ,

Not pleased with the judgment, Adeleke and the PDP headed for the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal heard the appeal on March 13 and reserved its judgment.

Also, the spokesperson for the Osun APC, Mr. Kola Olabisi, also expressed optimism that the party would come out in flying colours.

“We are optimistic that we are going to come out in flying colours because of our iron-cast evidence before the court,” Olabisi said.

Meanwhile, a statement by the acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, Kehinde Adeleke, said, “Ahead of Friday’s Appeal Court judgment on the matter between Governor Ademola Adeleke and Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola; there is strategic deployment of personnel around critical infrastructure in the state.

On the day of the guber election it was widely reported that he had jetted out of Nigeria to Germany.

The lyrics pointedly explains the message in the viral video. Translated, “The drummers said that he was bragging(better still he de buga) he would be re-elected but now he has failed.
They ended with a proverb that translates to “” There is nobody that can dare to eat soap”
