2019: We will send APC packing from Lagos – ADP

The Action Democratic Party (ADP)on Sunday said it would dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos by winning the governorship election in 2019.

The Chairman of the party, Mr Adewale Bolaji said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said the party had mapped out the right strategy to ensure that the APC was sent packing in the state.

Bolaji said that the ADP had the people to win the state for the party, and was banking on the confidence reposed in it by residents to sack the APC.

“Our great party will defeat the APC government in Lagos in 2019, we are confident.

“We have the strategy, we have the people, we have the commitment to give the state the credible alternative leadership it deserves.

“We will not reveal much on how we are going to win the state .We will unleash it at the right time.

“Our party is focussed and resolute in our determination to rescue Lagos to deliver real democratic dividends to the people,” he said.

Bolaji said that the APC had not provided exemplary and impactful leadership to optimise the state’s potential.

He noted that it was high time the youths who had the greatest voting power were given leadership opportunities, instead of continually relying on peanuts in the name of empowerment.

“That is what we are going to do in Lagos. We will engage the youths and give them the opportunities to be governors, lawmakers and so on.

“Most of the present leaders in the country became leaders in their 30s and 40s.

“We believe it is the time for the youths to take active part in determining the future of the country,” he said.

Another chieftain of the party, Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi, said Lagos had the potential to be like Singapore in view of the huge economic potential.

Gbadamosi, an ADP governorship aspirant, said the state would to get to such level with the right leadership.

BREAKING: Osun APC deputy chairman leads 6,208 members to ADP

The Deputy Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Azeez Adesiji, on Monday led eight members of the State Working Committee of the party and 6,200 members of the party at local government and ward levels to join the Action Democratic Party.

The APC leaders and their followers were received by the chairman of the ADP, Toye Akinola, at the secretariat of the party in Osogbo amidst jubilation.

Adesiji alleged that the mass defection was caused by “nepotism, impunity and unconcerned attitude” of the decision makers in APC and also by the state government towards the citizens of the state, among other reasons.

He said, ” I, Alhaji Azeez Issa Adesiji and other state exco members wish to make it known to you all about our defection into this new, credible, alternative party because of impunity and undemocratic practices witnessed in our former party, the All Progressives Congress, Osun State, which is unbecoming of an acclaimed progressive party.

“Among the 780 local government executives in APC in Osun State, 580 are moving with me the deputy state chairman of the party to our new party, the Action Democratic Party,

“Also, among the 8,632 executives at the ward level in the APC, 5,620 are also joining the train to our new party, Action Democratic Party.”

The chairman of the ADP in the state, Toye Akinola, said he was happy with the mass defections of politicians from the ruling party to the opposition party.

He said that other politicians from the APC and other political parties had informed him of their decision to join the party soon, saying they would all be accommodated.

He urged the people of the state to support the governorship candidate of the party, Moshood Adeoti, who he said would rescue the state from suffering, “but only with the support of the people.”

  • 2019: Labour, ADP, deny membership of PDP’s coalition against Buhari, APC

The Labour Party (LP) has distanced itself from the coalition of political parties which recently came together in an attempt to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

Dr Mike Omotosho, National Chairman of the party said this while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the Labour Party is not part of any coalition with any group.

He said that the leadership of the party has not been consulted, neither has there been any formal meeting or agreement between the party and any other political party in Nigeria in that respect.

“The Labour Party is not only a political party but a political movement, guided by its ethics, values, principles and social ideology, where all actions are taken in consideration of due process.

“If there was any need for the party to join any coalition, the consent and the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Council (NEC) would have been sought before such decision is taken.

“It is an undisputable fact that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its allies, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the civil society, are the owners of the Party.

“Such a vital decision to join a coalition cannot be effected without the approvals of their respective governmental organs.

“As it stands now, the NWC, NEC, nor NLC are aware or privy to this crocket coalition engagement, ’’he said.

He, however, called on Nigerians to disregard all allusions to the inclusion of the Labour Party and those of the NLC & TUC, as members of any collation.

Omotosho added that the commitment of the Labour Party to the coalition is, therefore, the fiery imaginations and fictions of a few recalcitrant members.

According to him, this borne out of their hurriedness to mortgage the Party for their selfish political end.

“We hereby dissociate our great party, the Labour Party, from such a gathering, calculated to further throw the political atmosphere of Nigeria into more heinous confusion.

“The vision and mission of this coalition is not yet clear to Labour Party,” he said.

“We therefore at this moment cannot subject the party to an alliance whose objectives and goals is currently not understood,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) also disassociated itself from the coalition.

National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Sani Yabagi made the party’s position known at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

“You will recall that on July 9, the PDP, in conjunction with about 34 other political parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to field a common presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections, after forming the CUPP.

“The parties are also to collaborate in several other areas to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) -led Federal Government is defeated in the coming elections.

“Let me say here for the avoidance of doubt that we are not part of the coalition,” he said.

Yabagi added that his party, however, believed that the time had come for a generational shift in leadership, but not by putting old wine in new bottles.

This, according to the ADP national chairman, is what the PDP- led coalition represented.

He recalled that similar coalition was formed in 2015, noting that it is time for Nigerians to wake up and resist another deceit by desperate and corrupt politicians ahead of 2019 general elections.

He stressed that ADP was committed to building a new Nigeria that offers hope to all, and ensure transformation in health, education, infrastructure, security, and employment, among others.

According to Yabagi, what Nigerians need at the moment, is a new direction, championed by true patriots, a process he said his party was determined to drive.

“We shall be calling on like-minded patriotic, God fearing and credible Nigerians, to join the ADP-led coalition to rebuild Nigeria and make our nation the pride of Africa,” he said.

He said that ADP was a child of necessity that would deepen democracy and good governance to establish the credible political platform that would rescue the country.

He stressed that the party was not prepared to jettison its values and Constitutional provisions such as the use of direct primaries as against the often used corrupt delegate system by the other parties in the CUPP.

“The ADP is also not in a hurry to hobnob with those who mismanaged Nigeria for sixteen years, and now re-grouping in an un-strategic haste to resume unprecedented loot of the nation’s treasury.

“It is important to know that those who pushed Nigeria to the precipice are the drivers of the coalition and have nothing new to offer.

“To collaborate with them is to sleep with strange bedfellows,”the ADP national chairman said.

He maintained that the ADP was, however, not averse to any political coalition that could bring a positive overhaul of the Nigerian system, but stressed that such coalition must be done with true patriots.

He added that such patriots must not be seen to be a part of the Nigerian problem.

Yabagi added that in the desire to acquire power, the ADP would not compromise its basic principles and ideology. (NAN)

ADP pulls out of PDP-led CUPP

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has distanced itself from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP-led Coalition of Unity Political Parties (CUPP) involving about 38 political parties.

TheNewsGuru reports Kayode Jacobs, ADP Director Media, as saying the ADP is not part of the CUPP.

He said the Action Democratic Party (ADP) will be addressing the press on Wednesday 11 July to let Nigerians know why they have opted out of the coalition.

The party, in a press statement on Tuesday, said the vision of the ADP does not go in line with the reasons for such coalition.

According to the statement, the ADP posited that as a credible alternative political party against the misrule of the past, present government and political parties, it would be wrong to join same method used by the ruling APC where strange bed fellows came together for the purpose of wrestling power from the then President.

The party says that this level of desperation where political parties will keep coming with the habit of forming coalition every four years won’t be to the best interest of Nigerians and that of the nation’s democracy.

The statement further read that the coalition is not for the purpose of making Nigeria great but for selfish interest of those involved.

The party said if Nigerians should critically look at those in the formation of the CUPP, majority of them are the architect of Nigeria’s problems, that teaming up with such people won’t speak well.

ADP however assured members and Nigerian public that their vision is for a new and better Nigeria and not that of desperate politicians queuing and teaming up to take power from another failed government in order to continue the circle of failure.

  • Police arrest vocal opposition leader

    Police arrest vocal opposition leader

Mr Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, the vocal leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), in Sierra Leone has been arrested.

The party of the opposition presidential hopeful has accused the government of intimidation and called for his immediate release.

It said the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) was behind the arrest its leader, who faces two charges of unlawful possession of firearms.

Mansaray was denied bail on Friday after being arraigned before a magistrate’s court in the eastern headquarters town of Kenema.

The police say he committed the alleged offence in the nearby Kailahun District, where his party participated in a by-election at the end of last month.

Mansaray, an outspoken politician, was arrested in Freetown and transported to Kenema, about a week after the elections.

ADP described the police’s action as politically motivated, saying it was sanctioned by the ruling party to silence a critical voice.

“We want the public to know that his arrest is nothing but a barbaric conspiracy planned by the ruling APC government and executed by the Sierra Leone police,” the party’s diaspora arm proclaimed in a statement.

Mr Mansaray formed ADP after falling out with APC and he has since transformed himself into a Julius Malema-style opposition.

ADP is most popular in the north, where much of its support is thought to be drawn from the APC base.

Mansaray’s supporters say that, coupled with his consistent attacks on the APC leadership, have made him a target of political intimidation.

ADP defended his carrying of a “stun gun” during the by-election, saying it was meant as protection after several reported failed attempts on his life by alleged APC militants.

Lately, Mr Mansaray has been leading a wave of condemnation against an alleged Chinese interference in the local politics after news that the Communist Party of China was funding the construction of a seven storied office building for the APC.

  • 2019: ADP confirms payment of N1m registration fee to INEC

2019: ADP confirms payment of N1m registration fee to INEC

As the 2019 election year draws nearer, promoters of political parties have commenced the compulsory registration process with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that one of such proposed political party is Action Democratic Party, ADP which claims to have paid the mandatory N1m to the electoral umpire.

A top member of the party, Dr. James Okoroma, whose name was forwarded to the commission as the National Secretary of the party, told newsmen that the ADP paid the compulsory fee in January this year.

The Punch reports that Okoroma stated that the ADP also fulfilled the requirement for the submission of the list of its National Working Committee members to the commission in January.

He said a team sent from the commission visited the ADP’s headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, and concluded its verification for the process of the registration of the party in February.

Okoroma added that the ADP was only waiting for its certificate of registration from INEC.

According to him, members of the ADP National Working Committee, whose names were on the list submitted to INEC, are Yagbaji Sani (National Chairman), Mr. David Bichi, (National Legal Adviser), a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Rex Onyeabo (National Chairman, South-East), a former Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nojeem Awodele (National Vice Chairman, South West), and others.

Okoroma said the planned party had several prominent politicians including senators, former ministers and others across the country.

In his words: “Yes, that one (N1m) is mandatory. When you want to register, for you to pick up the form, you make that payment. And they (INEC) have done their verification, they have done everything.

They have come to verify our place, our structures, offices and the rest. We are just awaiting the certificate. We have offices in close to 30 states now; we even have local government and ward offices in some states.

We paid in January, submitted the list and they came for verification in February. They have done their verification. They came, they sent a team to our national headquarters and did their verification and they promised that they would do their work.”

He said it was important to have a vibrant political party in the country as there was no longer what could be referred to as an opposition party in the country.

However, when contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, could not confirm the claim that the ADP had fulfilled the conditions for registration.

He said that he could not reach officials with the information to speak on the issue.
