    Davido,Wizkid dominate AFRIMMA nominees list

    Nigerian pop stars, Wizkid and Davido have dominated nominees list for the Afrimma Awards and Music Festival. The singers were both nominated for Best male artiste and Song of the year categories.

    Amazingly, Wizkid seems to be leading Davido on the list. Other notable artistes on the list are; Falz, Yemi Alade, Mayorkun, Flavour, Tiwa Savage, Bracket, Dice Ailes and Frank Edward.

  • Obasanjo gets AFRIMMA honour

    Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been honoured with the Leadership in Africa Award, by organizers of the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).

     

    The 4th edition of the music award and festival held this year, at the House of Blues , Dallas,Texas, United States.

     

    Some of the African performers who thrilled fans at the event include Diamond Platnumz – Tanzania ;Tiwa Savage – Nigeria; Victoria Kimani – Kenya; Fally Ipupa – Congo; C4 Pedro – Angola; Falz – Nigeria; Tzy Panshak – Cameroon; Ray Vanny – Tanzania; Emma Nyra – Nigeria; and Stylze – Jamaica among others.

     

    According to the CEO of AFRIMMA, Anderson Obiagwu, the award is dedicated to African greats who have served with distinction in various leadership capacities in Africa and internationally.

     

    Obiagwu recalls that Obasanjo was the first Nigerian to serve as Military Head of State as well as Civilian President.

     

    “Some of his major achievements and accomplishments include being the first Military Head of State to successfully hand over power to an elected civilian President and also played a crucial role in wrestling back power from the Military in 1999 culminating in him being elected President,” he noted.

     

    According to Obiagwu, “Obasanjo is also a designated UN envoy who has overseen various democratic elections across the continent. He is particularly renowned for his activities in the peace process of West African countries Liberia and Sierra Leone. He famously resolved along with President Biya of Cameroon the protracted Bakassi Peninsula issue by signing the ‘Greentree Agreement’.

     

    “The amiable leader established the Presidential Library which is one of the biggest educational tourism institutions in Africa . It would be recalled also that it was during his tenure as President that GSM mobile technology was introduced to Nigeria while counterparts Benin, Togo and Ghana were all already on the GSM technology.

     

    “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way and Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Mathew Obasanjo has been a tenacious leader who has left an imprint on African leadership history,” said Obiagwu.

    Kechi Okwuchi to perform at AFRIMMA 2017

    Sosoliso plane crash survivor, Kechi Okwuchi who burst into limelight via America’s Got Talent is expected to perform at this year’s edition of African Muzik Magazine Award, otherwise tagged AFRIMMA 2017 Awards & Music Festival.

     

    Amazingly, this will be Kechi’s first meeting after leaving the America’s Got Talent competition where her music talent earned her worldwide acclaim.

     

    Announcing this on Tuesday, Founder/CEO of AFRIMMA, Mr. Angerson Obiagwu said; “The star singer who is one of the two survivors of the infamous Sosoliso air crash has mystified the world with her talents. Come see her at the House of Blues, Dallas at AFRIMMA 2017 Awards & Music Festival.”

     

    Organisers of the event had earlier named notable Nigerian stand-up comedian, Bright Akpocha, aka Basketmouth and Kenya-born East African rave comedian, Chipukeezy as co-hosts of AFRIMMA 2017.

     

    The show which, according to Obiagwu, will hold at the House of Blues, promises to be the best, going by the combination of the West and East African helmsmen, and a host of other performances and side attractions on the night.

     

     

    AFRIMMA 2017 is scheduled to take place in Dallas, Texas, United States on October 8, 2017.
