Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits striker Sergio Aguero is close to signing for Barcelona.

The Argentine is out of contract in the summer, and had already announced his departure from City at the end of this season.

The 32-year-old scored a total of 260 goals in 389 games for the club over the past decade.

“Maybe I reveal a secret,” Guardiola told the BBC’s Match of the Day.

“Maybe he is close to agreeing a deal for the club of my heart – for Barcelona.

“He is going to be playing alongside the best player of all time, Messi.”

Guardiola added: “I’m pretty sure he is going to enjoy. And maybe Barcelona are stronger and stronger with him on the pitch.”

Aguero accepts 60%-plus pay-cut to join Barca

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is accepting a hefty pay-cut to move to Barcelona this summer.

Aguero will leave City when his contract expires at the end of next month.

Beteve says Aguero has agreed to join the La Liga giants on a two-year deal that could see him link up with his international team-mate Lionel Messi next season.

The report also claims that the striker has lowered his salary demands to help push the deal over the line.

Aguero was said to be earning £12million a year at Manchester City, while his new deal at Barcelona will see him earn £4.4m (€5m).

Aguero is no stranger to La Liga having spent five years with Atletico Madrid before his move to Manchester in 2011.

Barcelona also hope Aguero’s arrival will convince Messi to stay put and sign a new two-year contract with his current deal due to expire at the end of June.

Barca president to close Aguero deal ‘in coming days’

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is on the brink of signing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Off contract in June, Aguero will leave City this summer after ten years with the club.

A Bosman move to Barca has long been suggested and El Chiringuito’s Jose Alvarez reports Laporta is about to complete an agreement with Aguero. The operation is expected to be closed in the coming days.

It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to retain Lionel Messi, who would have demanded the arrival of his compatriot and close friend.

Like Aguero, Messi also comes off contract at Barca next month.

Chelsea delay Man City Premier League title

Manchester City will have to wait a little longer to be crowned Premier League champions after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Chelsea on Saturday.

City, who made nine changes for the game, could still secure the title this weekend if second-placed Manchester United lose at Aston Villa on Sunday.

With three games left to play Pep Guardiola’ side are 13 points ahead of United, who have five games remaining.

United have three games coming up in five days, and even if they win all three City would win the title by beating Newcastle on Friday.

Saturday’s game also offered something of a preview of the Champions League final between the two sides, although both Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel left out key players.

Raheem Sterling put City ahead in the 44th minute, sneaking in front of Sergio Aguero to connect with a low ball from Gabriel Jesus, who had bustled past Andreas Christensen.

Within two minutes they had a chance to double that lead from the penalty spot, but Aguero’s soft chip down the middle ended in embarassment as it was easily saved by Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea drew level through a low drive from Hakim Ziyech in the 63rd minute, and then had efforts from Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi ruled out for offside.

City felt they should have had another penalty when Sterling went down in the box with Kurt Zouma behind him.

But Tuchel’s team went on to grab a late winner with Marcos Alonso’s scuffed shot floating past Ederson.

Chelsea beat City in the semi-final of the FA Cup on April 17 and will face them again in May 29th’s Champions League final.

Aguero thrilled to play and score in Man City win

Manchester City could clinch the Premier League title on Sunday after two goals in the space of 83 seconds saw off a stubborn Crystal Palace.

City will secure a third title in four seasons if second-placed Manchester United lose at home to Liverpool.

After a scrappy first half at Selhurst Park, Sergio Aguero thumped City ahead with a clinical finish before Ferran Torres drilled in a low shot.

That ended the resistance of Palace, who stay in 13th place.

Afterwards, Aguero said: “Finally I could play, I’m so happy. It was a long time that I hadn’t played 90 minutes. The goal was good because maybe we can win the Premier League.

“We wait for tomorrow. Every game is difficult, but we wait for tomorrow. Of course if Liverpool win it’s better.”

On his goal, he said: “Always [Benjamin] Mendy tries to pass to me. All I needed in the box was one touch or two touches. Finally I got the goal. I’m so happy about that.”

On Tuesday’s game against Paris St-Germain, Aguero said: “Always I’m ready. I’m feeling good, my knee is so good. I just wait for the opportunity to play, like today. If I don’t play it doesn’t matter. I want to be with the team-mates. Of course every player wants to play, but we’ll see.”

And on receiving a statue, he concluded: “When the club told me about that I told them I don’t want anything. I prefer to wait until the end. If the club want to do something, then thank you.”

Juve outbid Barca in Aguero pre-contract battle

Juventus are threatening Barcelona plans for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

With his deal expiring in June, Aguero is free to discuss terms with foreign clubs and it emerged this week that Barca have tabled a two-year pre-contract offer to the Argentine’s minders.

Aguero is impressed and had told family members that he was to join Barca next season.

However, Cuatro says Juve have made their pitch to Aguero and with a superior offer.

While Barca’s deal is worth €7-8m a year, Juve’s proposal is a clear €10m-a-year and has Aguero rethinking his position.

Departing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has set his terms for his next move.

Aguero will leave City this summer when his contract expires after 11 years with the Premier League champions-elect.

The Argentine has been in contact with Juventus and Barcelona about next season and both clubs know his personal demands.

Gazzetta dello Sport says the 32 year-old wants a deal for €12m-a-season for at least two years.

PSG and Chelsea are also watching developments, though yet to make a firm move.

  • Go for Aguero, Berbatov tells Man Utd

Go for Aguero, Berbatov tells Man Utd

Manchester United title winner Dimitar Berbatov wants to see his old club move for Manchester City great Sergio Aguero.

Aguero will leave City this summer after ten years with the club.

Berbatov told Betfair: “There’s a lot of speculation about where he will go at the end of the season, I would absolutely take him at Manchester United.

“Despite his connection to City and everything he has done there he is a player you can not hate.

“It’s painful for City but if they are letting him go then they are deciding that he has past his peak and they will have someone to replace him.

“He’s still only 32, I left United at 31 and Rooney left at 31 but it’s a different time now and a player like Aguero can still do a lot of damage for a club like United.

“He knows how to save his strength, he knows how and when to attack and when to wait for the right moment, look at how Cavani and Ibrahimovic are performing, they are still making a big impact.

“I think Aguero would be a good addition to United but I can’t see it happening because of his loyalty to City.

“He is still capable of scoring goals and causing damage, but there maybe other younger strikers out there worth chasing ahead of him.

“I think Aguero would feel strange going to United, but I was there when his countryman Carlos Tevez left us to join City.

“It was a surprise for me and everyone else at the club to see Carlos go to City, maybe it was for some kind of statement to United, you could say revenge.

“These days it’s not too unusual to see players move to their rival clubs, it’s business at the end of the day and for Aguero it’s his choice where he goes next, he doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone.”

Arsenal legend Paul Merson is surprised Manchester City are allowing Sergio Aguero to leave this summer.

The Argentina striker will depart City after ten years with the club at the end of this season.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Legend is an expression that is used too much nowadays but Sergio Agüero is definitely a Premier League legend.

“I am shocked by Manchester City’s decision to release him.”

Merson added: “They have probably already pointed out a replacement that they want to recruit this summer. But they have to replace Agüero with a big player. For example, a Harry Kane, Erling Håland or Kylian Mbappé.”

Manchester United and Chelsea are already in contact with departing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

The Argentinian will end his trophy-laden stint at the Etihad this summer when his contract comes to an end.

Foot Mercato says Aguero could stay in England with United and Chelsea already making an offer for his services.

PSG and Inter Milan are keen to land Aguero on a free, with Mauricio Pochettino particularly keen on signing his fellow countryman.

Aguero, who has notched 257 goals in 384 games with the Citizens, has not made a decision on where he will be playing next term.

But with Edinson Cavani departing Old Trafford, United could finally secure revenge for City poaching Carlos Tevez from them on a free all those years ago.

As for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel’s side have been linked with another striker in recent weeks, despite Timo Werner arriving last summer.
