Unknown gunmen have attacked an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 12 with headquarters in Bauchi, Audu Adamu Madaki, who lost his orderly during the ambush on his convoy.
The attack occurred on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at about 2.30pm at Barde Zangidi area of Bauchi State.
According to TheNewsGuru, the AIG escaped with bullet injuries.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 10, AIG Bello Dalijan, has directed Commissioners of Police in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara to enforce the ban on use of Spy number plates.
This is contained in a statement issued by the zone’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adamu Abbas, on Thursday in Sokoto.
He said that those using the number plates must return them to the various police commands.
The AIG enjoined the commands to enforce the directives in a professional manner and avoid using force, so as not to embarrass the Force.
He also warned those using the Spy numbers to return them to avoid embarrassment.
Dalijan urged operational commanders and their supervisors to live up to expectations in the enforcement of the order.
He also said that a task force comprising all security agents would be deployed to ensure compliance.
Controversy trails promotion of former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), as Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi insists it came after his retirement raising likely fresh issues around the anti-graft chief fate.
Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, disclosed the promotion after retirement when he featured as guest on the weekly ministerial briefing by the Presidential Communication team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Monday approved promotion of the former EFCC boss just about when his retirement from the Police was due, having clocked 60 on May 5, 2022.
Magu had been investigated by a presidential panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami, which had since submitted its report in which it recommended the retirement of Magu in 2020.
When asked why he was promoted, the Minister said it was the responsibility of the PSC, which is under the Presidency, to provide the answer.
But he affirmed that Magu had already retired, noting that being retired would not preclude him from any disciplinary measures should the need arise.
Assistant Inspector -General of police, Zone 2 command, Adeyinka Adeleke has said the Inspector General of Police, Usman is at the moment working out modalities for the increment in the allowances and salaries of police officers in line with the approval of the Federal Government.
Adeleke whilst giving lectures to a cross section of policemen in Ogun state dismmissed the strike, saying modalities for a new package underway.
He appealed for calm and pleaded with the rank and file to be law-abiding and steer clear of actions that could be described as mutiny urging them to disciplined and maintain the integrity of the force, saying their are procedures and guidelines to channeling and addressing their grievances,
The lecture reads in part, “The IG, Usman Baba, has put measures in place to ensure that policemen are comfortable, and he is seeing to the review of death benefits as well as welfare issues, including salary increment, pension, kits etc.

“The IG has accelerated efforts to ensure the full implementation of the increment of salaries and allowances proposed by the President and approved by the Federal Executive Council, even as he continues to deliver on the provision of kits, accoutrements, body armour, the cooperative society’s housing scheme, the renovation of training schools, upgrade of police training curriculum, procurement, and deployment of technology to boost ICT-driven policing.”
Fresh facts emerged yesterday on how the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, retd, met at Force Headquarters, Abuja, to decide the fate of the suspended commander of the Police Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, over his involvement in a 25kg cocaine deal.
The revelation came on a day the Police shut down all IRT units in states across the federation, following the arrest of DCP Kyari.
The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Zone 5, Lawan Jimeta, on Tuesday tasked newly promoted officers in the zone on professionalism and commitment to efficient and effective policing.
Jimeta gave the charge in Benin while decorating the three newly promoted officers serving at the headquarters of the zone comprising Edo and Delta.
He also charged the newly elevated officers to see their promotion as the work of God as “promotion comes from above.”
The AIG reminded them that they must remain professional, committed and dedicated as promotion came with additional responsibilities and challenges.
He congratulated them and prayed God to grant them wisdom to shoulder the responsibilities of their new ranks.
Jemeta also appreciated the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba, and the Police Service Commission for the recommendation and subsequent promotion of the officers.
According to him, the promotion will go a long way in boosting the morale of the officers and enhance their productivity.
Newsmen reports that the officers decorated with their new ranks included DCP Charles Dike.
Dike, until now, was the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zonal Criminal Investigations Department, Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin.
Others promoted were CSP Oweikpo Pere, the Zonal Provost Marshal as well as SP Blessing Evbakhavbokun, the 2IC, General Investigation, Zonal CID, Benin.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, Dike thanked God Almighty for considering them worthy of elevation to their next ranks.
He also thanked the AIG for finding out time to personally decorate them and promised to work harder, in line with professional ethics and constitutional provisions to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Yunana Babas, an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police is dead.
Babas was in charge of Zone 8.
He passed away three days after the death of another AIG, Omololu Bishi.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, reacted to his death Thursday night.
He commiserated with the police authorities over “the sudden death”.
AbdulRahman described Babas as a perfect gentlemen and a dedicated officer.
“I received the news of the death of AIG Yunana Babas with shock and sadness. It is one tragedy too many.
“On behalf of the people and Government of Kwara State, I condole with the entire police family, especially the Inspector General of Police and the immediate family of the top officer, on this devastating development.
“The late officer is a fine gentleman, a patriot, and a professional cop who was very passionate about his duty to his fatherland. I recall the gallant roles the late officer played in some recent security developments in the zone.”
The governor prayed God to repose his soul and comfort his family.
Tambari Yabo, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), is dead, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports from Sokoto.
NAN learnt that Yabo died on Saturday, at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, at the age of 64, after a brief illness.
A family member, Malam Faruku Yabo, confirmed that the deceased, who was survived by two wives, 14 children and many grand children, had been buried in Yabo, his hometown, after a funeral prayer led by the Chief Imam of Yabo, Sheikh Lema Faruk.
Amongst the personalities that attended the prayer were, the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, former Governors of Sokoto state, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko and Yahaya Abdulkarim, respectively, Chief of Staff to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, Alhaji Muktar Magori, among others.
Speaking after the burial, Dingyadi, described the deceased as religious, disciplined and patriotic, who had served his nation meritoriously.
He described his death as a great loss to his family, political associates and the country at large, while praying to Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus and his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Six years after his death, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Simeon Olasunkanmi Oduoye, is being asked to settle his debt, by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
AMCON has obtained an exparte order freezing the accounts of the late AIG, who died in 2014, to recover a debt of N63,739,508.48.
The court also granted an order of interim possession, detention and custody of land together with building thereon at House 19,1st Avenue Tajudeen Olanrewaju Housing Estate, Edmund Cresent,Yaba,Lagos Mainland local Government Area of Lagos State, used as Security for the loan by the deceased Police Officer.
Oduoye, former administrator of Niger and Ebonyi states, served in the Nigerian Police from 1965 till 1999. He became a senator in 2007, but died in 2014. He was 69 years old.
Also affected by the order of the court are a limited liability Company Skiv Concepts Nigeria Limited, two directors of the company Olukayode Emmanuel Oduoye and Adeyemi Adeola Adetomi Oduoye
The order obtained by AMCON was sequel to an ex-parte application filed and argued before the court by AMCON lawyer, Barrister Gerald Eguaroje.
In an affidavit in support of the motion ex-parte sworn to by the AMCON Credit officer Afiniki Oyedele Lawal, it was alleged that Skiv Concepts Nigeria limited Company was availed a restructured term loan of N46,500,000 and invoice discounting facility of N56,500,000 on a tenor of six months and sixty days respectively and a loan with a Banker’s acceptance note of N9,562,500 for tenor of six months to the company.
The loan, with an interest of 20 percent had Oduoye submitting his letter of consent as guarantor for his son.
He also pledged his property as Security for repayment of the loan with his letter dated 24th of May,2010.
In addition, executed a tripartite deed of legal mortgage on his property.
However, after the acquisition of the non-performing loan of the company, the company had paid the sum of N48Million leaving outstanding balance sum of N63,739,508.49 as at November 30,2019,
Consequently, AMCON urged the court to grant the orders as prayed pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The presiding Judge Saliu Saidu, after hearing Mr Eguaroje granted the orders,of interim possession of the property used as collateral for the loan.
He also ordered the freezing of the accounts of all the defendants.
He ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command and other officers jointly and severally to enter into and assist the bailiff of the court in securing the assets and Properties of the defendants.
Meanwhile, the third defendant Adeyemi Adeola Adetomi Oduoye has filed an application before the court, urging the court to set aside the order freezing her account.
In the application, filed by her lawyer Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi, she stated that, by joining her to the suit, AMCON was of the erroneous belief, that as a subscriber to Skiv Concepts Nigeria Company’s MOU, she should become vicariously liable for any act or omission done by the company.
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the application.
