The FCT Police Command on Monday paraded one Aisha Bello for allegedly impersonating President Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari.

The police said the woman used the President wife’s name to solicit for contracts from members of the public who are mostly head of government agencies.

Speaking during the parade, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Sadiq Bello, said: “Today we have a special suspect to present before you. She is Aisha Muhammed Bello, 37 years old, mother of four from Plateau State.

She was arrested for impersonating the wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari.

“She is used the name of the First Lady to solicit for contracts and financial assistance from unsuspecting members of the public, especially heads of government establishments.”

“The suspect was arrested by police operatives on 10th January, 2018 at Fadama 111 Project Office, Maitama, Abuja, following a report that she contacted the Coordinator of the Project that she wants assistance in her capacity as the First Lady.

“Upon her arrest, a phone and a newly acquired Airtel SIM card registered in the name of Aisha Buhari, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was recovered from the suspect.”

“Police had commenced moves to contacting other people she must have duped in the name of the First Lady. At the end of investigation, she will be charged to court. ‘Members of the public are hereby advised to always be double sure of who they are dealing with before they part with their property or money.”

The 37- year- old single mother of four said: “I am a businesswoman. I sell clothes. I was arrested after I requested for a contract in the name of the wife of the President.

“I only sent text messages in the name of the wife of the President for contracts. I only did it once and it is because I lost the money for business and I didn’t have money to do my business.

  • ‘I provided two vehicles to Aisha Buhari for security reasons,’ IGP replies Misau

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said yesterday that he released two cars for the security of the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, and not for her personal use as alleged by the lawmaker representing the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Senator Isa Misau.

Idris, who spoke through the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said he released a Toyota Sienna and Hiace bus to the aide-de-camp to the wife of the President, and not to the President’s wife.

A statement signed by Moshood on Thursday, read, “It is within the powers of the IG as stated above that when on January 17, 2017, SP Sani Baba-Inna, the ADC to the wife of the President requested two vehicles for police personnel for convoy movement and security purposes, two vehicles, Toyota Sienna Bus with Reg. No. NPF 2406D and Toyota Hiace Bus with Reg. No. NPF 3363D, were approved by the Inspector-General of Police to the ADC, wife of the President, SP Sani Baba-Inna, for the purposes requested and not to the person of the wife of the President or for her personal use as alleged by Misau.”

Misau had on Wednesday, while appearing before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Investigation of Various Allegations Levelled Against the Police, the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission probing his allegations against the IG, claimed that the President’s wife requested and received two Toyota Prado SUVs from the police boss for her personal use.

Misau had told the committee, “I still have some contract papers that the IG himself submitted to the court, where the First Lady through her aide-de-camp requested a Toyota Hiace and a Sienna jeep. The same day that the ADC wrote, the IG minuted that she should be given two jeeps. And it is not part of the appropriation. If you look at the appropriation, there is nowhere they said the First Lady should be given two jeeps.”

Before the IG’s reaction, recall that TheNewsguru had reported how Mrs. Buhari on Thursday denied receiving cars from the IG, stressing that she still used her personal cars and that there was no truth in the claim by the senator.

In a statement by her Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, she said there was no truth in the allegation.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to the news being widely circulated and attributed to a member of the Senate that two SUVs from the Inspector-General of Police were given to the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, personally.

“The wife of the President wants to make it clear that since the assumption of office of her husband as the President of Nigeria, she did not receive these mentioned vehicles.

“Furthermore, the vehicles she is still using belong to the family and were the ones used during the campaign for 2015 elections including the one for her entourage.”

But the controversy surrounding the cars assumed a new dimension on Thursday evening when Misau denied indicting Aisha Buhari, alleging that it was the IG that dropped the President wife’s name.

Misau, in a statement issued in Abuja, stated that Idris dropped Mrs Buhari’s name in the documents tendered by the police boss in the suit filed against the lawmaker by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation on behalf of the Federal Government.

The senator noted that he only made reference to the details in the papers submitted by the IG.

The statement read, “I am constrained to make this press release without prejudice to the pending charge against me and the mandate of the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Various Allegations Against the Police and the Police Service Commission, so as to dissuade any misconceptions or innuendoes that may unwittingly be read into my comments before the committee at its sitting of the Wednesday, 25th October, 2017.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I did not make any allegation against the person of the highly revered wife of the President; my comments in addressing the committee were to the effect of referencing court documents filed in the charge against me before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory by the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, with charge no: CR/ 345/17.

“The said documents which form part of the proof of evidence to the charge are correspondence between the Inspector-General of Police and the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federation; the Chief of Staff to the President; the Director, National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies; the Aide-De-Camp to the wife of the President; and the Chief Personal Security Officer to the President.

He added, “It was indeed a shock to me as I am sure it is to other Nigerians, to see such private and confidential documents with all the minutes of the President and other top government officials carelessly displayed in the public by the Inspector-General of Police in manifest breach of official Secrecy.

“The motive for displaying these documents is no doubt suspicious, given that they have little or no bearing on the matter of inappropriate practices within the Police.

“My submission before the Senate ad hoc committee was simply to call the attention of members as well as the general public to how the IGP is unethically dropping names through filing of secret documents so as to rope these top-ranking innocent personalities into the case. The IGP is the one who submitted the official documents mentioning the names of the respected personalities, not me. I believe I need to make this clarification.”

  • Police IG scandal: Misau indicts Aisha Buhari says Idris bought her 2 SUVs

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator, representing Bauchi Central senatorial district at the Senate, Isah Misau has again accused the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, of allegedly purchasing two Prado SUVs for President Muhammadu Buhari’s Wife, Mrs. Aisha, for personal use.

Misau who seems not to have exhausted alleged acts of corruptions being perpetrated by the IGP made this latest disclosure on Wednesday when he appeared before the eight-member Ad-hoc Committee of the Senate led by Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Francis Alimikhena (APC, Edo North).

The senator, who appeared before the committee probing alleged acts of corruption he leveled against Idris, narrated to the committee how the First Lady, through his Aide de Camp, had asked for a Sienna and Hiace. He said that the IGP instead bought two Prado SUVs, contrary to what Aisha requested for.

“The Inspector- General of Police gave the First Lady, wife of the President, two SUVs and this came through a letter from the ADC to the First Lady who requested on her behalf that she needed a Sienna and Hiace for personal use, but she was given the two SUVs for her private use.”

Making further allegations against Idris, Misau told the committee how the IGP manipulated his retirement date. According to the senator, the expected date of retirement of the IGP was deceptively tampered with on the staff list of senior police officers from January 3 -15, 2019.

He alleged that the IGP employed four civilians in his office and has been receiving the salary of the rank of Assistant Inspector- General of Police (AIG). Misau added that the Idris has been making use of a retired police officer he employed himself, to handle investigations.

This, Misau argued, is in contradiction to the code and Act establishing the Police Force. The Act stipulates that all investigative cases were to be under the Deputy Inspector-General of Police , DIG, in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, and not a retired officer.

Explaining earlier allegations he leveled against the IGP he said, “Sometime in July 2017, I was in the office of Senator Baba Kaka, Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business when a Daily Trust reporter sought my views on the information that policemen pay as much as N500,000 for special promotion.

“To verify this information, I called some serving police officers who confirmed to the three of us that the information was not only true, but also that the amounts paid are up to N2, 500,000, in addition to other information.

“I, hereby, forward for your consideration, the detailed terms of allegation against the Inspector General of Police, 1GP, and Police Service Commission (PSC) deployment of policemen to private organisations. “Between 50,000 and 100,000 policemen are routinely deployed by the police to oil companies, oil servicing companies, banks, oil marketers, and private individuals etc, with regular payments made to the police.

“While these monies are estimated to run into billions monthly, they are, however, unaccounted for. Today, the situation is so bad that businessmen with dubious characters and suspicious businesses now go about with full detachment of policemen and some with full convoy and blasting siren, especially in Lagos, Port Harcourt and other major cities in the country.

“This worsens the country’s policing ratio of one policeman to about 800 citizens, against the UN recommended ratio of one policeman to 400 citizens. PSC whose main function is to recruit, train, discipline, promote and retire members of the Force, appears to have left its core mandate to indulge almost exclusively in promotion racketeering.

“There are a lot of favouritisms in the promotion/appointment of commissioners of police. Junior deputy commissioners of police are given commissioner of police in acting capacity, against seniority and merit, thereby blocking eligible candidates.

“A recent example is the current Lagos State Commissioner of Police, who is a junior DCP to two other DCPs, now given acting CP and posted to Lagos. These acts of favouritism have eroded discipline in the Force, which is the backbone of any successful organisation.”

The Senate committee chairman probing the matter Alimikhena, meanwhile, has said that Idris will appear before the committee next week to tell his own side of the story.

There are currently legal actions instituted against Misau by the Federal Government which had accused him of making false accusation against the IGP.

Aisha who was obviously enraged said she was forced to seek the services of a private healthcare provider when those in Aso Rock Clinic could not provide her with what she needed.

Speaking Monday at a stakeholders meeting on Reproductive, Maternal, Nutrition, Child Advocacy and Health and Nutrition, RMNCAH+N, at the State House, Abuja, Mrs. Buhari said she recently fell ill and was advised to travel to London for treatment, but she refused.

“I called the Aso Clinic to find out if they have an X-Ray machine, they said it’s not working.

“In the end I had to go to a hospital owned and operated by foreigners 100 percent.

“There is a budget for the Hospital and if you go there now, you will see a number of constructions going on but they don’t have a single syringe there. What is the purpose of the buildings if there are no equipment there to work with?”
