The governor also announced the return of grants and stipends for corps members which, according to the state coordinator, has eluded the state corps members over the years.

Aiyedatiwa emphasised that his administration would continue to key into the main objective of the scheme, which is to promote unity.

He also assured to prioritise the welfare and security of all corps members posted to the state.

“I have received reports of the deteriorating and decrepit state of the infrastructure in the camp; I wish to assure you that we will move to maintain these facilities.

“As a responsible and responsive government, I say without equivocation that your welfare and security would be adequately taken care of during your service year.

“Our government will continue to support the National Youth Service Corps in the State, at all times, to ensure that you have a memorable service year,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa, who promised to improve the electricity in the camp, urged corps members to rededicate themselves and promote things that would facilitate national development.

“It is noteworthy that your call-up to service is coming up at a time in our national history when questions and concerns are being raised on the development and future of our youths.

“This is therefore, a time for sober reflection on the evolution of our dear country, and your roles are catalysts for the much needed national rebirth and re-construction,” he said.

The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, urged the corps members to see their posting to the state as a divine arrangement.

Yusuf-Ogunleye urged them to explore the different opportunities in the state, including the tourism sector.

In his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Sam Pepple, appreciated the governor for being the first sitting governor to visit the camp in over 13 years.

Pepple said 1,423 corps members comprising 607 males and 816 females had been registered for the current orientation course.

  • Ondo 2024: Destiny has placed Aiyedatiwa over other aspirants – APC Chieftain

Ondo 2024: Destiny has placed Aiyedatiwa over other aspirants – APC Chieftain

A chieftain of the APC in Ondo State, Mr Femi Adekanmbi, says destiny has placed Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa as a governorship aspirant over others jostling for the seat in the state.

Adekanmbi, in a statement on Tuesday in Akure, said the governor was ordained to lead the state, especially at this crucial time.

The chieftain who pledged support, promised to work tirelessly for Aiyedatiwa in the party’s governorship primaries and the poll.

“We have received the signal to give  Aiyedatiwa  absolute support for both the primaries and the main gubernatorial  election.

“Other aspirants  are eminently qualified to lead the state as the  governor but destiny has placed  Aiyedatiwa ahead of them.

“Divine  providence has made Aiyedatiwa the governor of Ondo state, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

“The governor is doing well, and I am giving him my support to secure a fresh mandate to enable him to continue his development strides.

“I’ve directed my team across the state to go all out and work for him,” he stated.

He appealed to other aspirants not to see the party’s primary election  as a war but rather, as a family affair where only one person would be elected as its   candidate.

Adekanmbi urged all party members to stop the campaign of hatred presently going on among  supporters of the governorship  aspirants.

“We should not be seen fighting one another . This primary election should not divide us.

“I also urge Aiyedatiwa to be cautious of those claiming to love him now.

“Those who have suddenly become his accidental supporters now are those that wanted him impeached before the death of former Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

“I urge the governor to continue the good works started by him, and lay down lasting legacy for himself in the state with developmental projects and programmes,” he said.

Ondo: Interior Minister denies announcing Aiyedatiwa as Tinubu’s preferred candidate

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disassociated himself from a report that President Bola Tinubu has picked Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State as his preferred candidate for the Nov. 16 Governorship election in the state.

A statement issued by Mr Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister,  on Wednesday in Abuja, also described as false the purported appointment of the minister has leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

Alao, who was reacting to the social media publication by Blueprint Newspaper titled “Tinubu appoints Tunji-Ojo political leader in Ondo State, described the report as baseless and fictitious.

“Therefore, Tunji-Ojo completely disassociates and distances himself from the purported appointment as it holds no truth whatsoever,” he said.

The media aide added that there was no meeting held in Abuja between the minister and APC chairmen and leaders from the 18 local government areas of Ondo state, as alleged in the article.

“The minister is aware that the party’s governorship primary election is days away,  and he has advised aspirants to embrace the spirit of love and sportsmanship,” Alao said.

According to him,  the President, as the father of the nation and as the leader of the party is a democrat whose interest is always to promote unity and peace.

“Therefore, he would not want to involve himself in any action that would undermine that,”  he said.

The special adviser urged the public to disregard the misinformation contained in the viral news article and to always rely on credible sources for accurate information.

Aiyedatiwa gives lawyer 7-day ultimatum to retract certificate forgery allegations

Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, on Monday, gave a legal practitioner, Oladotun Hassan, a seven-day ultimatum to retract his allegation of certificate forgery levelled against him or be sued.

Aiyedatiwa, in a letter titled: “Defamatory Publications Against Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa” written by his counsel, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, also demanded an apology in three national dailies.

The letter, dated April 8, was made available to newsmen in Abuja.

“The above matter refers. We are solicitors to His Excellency, the Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa (“our Client”) on whose behalf we write this letter on the above subject matter.

“It has come to the attention of our client that by an unsolicited letter dated June 2, 2023, you caused to be authored and submitted to the Nigeria Police Force, an unsubstantiated complaint of misrepresentation, certificate forgery, examination malpractice and perjury, against our client.

“Whereas, you are not a registered voter in or an indigene of Ondo State to possess the requisite locus to ground your said complaint.

“Your petition was cleverly routed through unauthorized sources within the police force and without recourse to our client, a report was purportedly submitted to you by the police dated February 19, 2024.

“You thereafter caused the said report to be widely circulated as the basis of a malicious design to disqualify our client from participating in the governorship primary election in Ondo State.

“You thereafter caused another letter to be written to the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the same purpose of disqualifying our client from participating in the governorship primary election of the said party fixed for April 2024.

“You have since led a vicious campaign of calumny against our client through these and other false publications, all of which have brought our client into public ridicule and opprobrium, albeit without any justification whatsoever,” he said.

The senior lawyer also accused Hassan of writing another letter on April 5, alleging that Aiyedatiwa, instead of clearing his name on the alleged forgery, the governor conspired with DIG Sylvester Alabi to compromise police integrity.

Adegboruwa alleged that Hassan’s intention was to stop Aiyedatiwa from contesting in the APC primary slated for April and the November governorship election in the state.

He, therefore, gave him seven demands, including “adequate compensation for the false and libelous publications,” against the governor within seven days of receiving the letter of face a criminal charge.
