Ondo 2020: Ilaje Group commends Akeredolu for picking Lucky Aiyedatiwa as running mate

The Ilaje Development Summit Group has expressed gratitude to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for picking one of their own, Lucky Aiyedatiwa as his running mate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State.

TheNewsGuru.com TNG, reports that Akeredolu who ran a joint ticket with his incumbent deputy, Agboola Ajayi in 2016 announced Aiyedatiwa as his running mate last week after a fallout with Agboola who has since decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his rumoured to be defecting to another party.

The group in a statement by its Executive Administrator, Rev. Sola Adebawo said Akeredolu’s choice of Aiyedatiwa will help shift developmental attention to the area.

ILAJE DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT GROUP CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU ON THE CHOICE OF ILAJE SON (HON. LUCKY AIYEDATIWA) AS RUnNING MATE IN THE UP-COMING GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN ONDO STATE
    · Commends Akeredolu for choosing an Ilaje man as running mate in October election
    · Demands focus on development of Ilaje land by government

The Ilaje Development Summit Group (IDSG) wishes to congratulate the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (Aketi) on his choice of a distinguished Ilaje son, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as his running mate in the coming governorship election in Ondo State.

This represents a clear recognition of both the obvious capacity of our brother and son to perform in this huge role, and a strong indication of an acknowledgment of the critical place of Ilaje in the sustainable success of our dear Ondo State. It also represents the beginning of a new era of Ilaje playing in the mainstream of governance in Ondo State, which our fathers fought relentlessly to help create, and which our resources have helped to sustain over the years.

As we approach the elections, we demand for a genuine focus on Ilaje for sustainable development of neglected infrastructures and other key areas such as health, education, economy, electricity etc. as a matter of commitment and not mere campaign rhetoric.

IDSG is a citizen-led initiative to engineer coordinated sustainable development of Ilaje land through participatory partnership of all groups, associations and individuals working for the development of Ilaje land. Though neither apolitical nor irreligious, IDSG is an inclusive organization with no exclusive political or religious affiliation. The organization is made up of the most accomplished Ilaje sons and daughters in Nigerian and in different countries around the world; and we therefore parade some of the finest minds in Ilaje land.

IDSG convened the much-talked about first-of-its-kind Ilaje Development Summit on november 23, 2019, at the Dome Akure, with participation by the Ondo State Government and Ilaje sons and daughters from different countries around the world, where the first Ilaje Regional Development Plan (a 50-year strategic plan for development of Ilaje land) was launched.

As a global organization of most outstanding Ilaje sons and daughters across all walks of life, IDSG seeks to partner with government at all levels and other critical stakeholders to engender sustainable development of Ilaje land, which has been obviously neglected by successive administration in the State.

  • Ondo 2020: Akeredolu speaks on dragging ex-gov Mimiko to EFCC

Ondo 2020: Akeredolu speaks on dragging ex-gov Mimiko to EFCC

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has denied social media reports that he has concluded plans to drag his predecessor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Governor Akeredolu said he never threatened to expose Mimiko, whom he described as a friend of over four decades to the EFCC.

Recall that TheNewsGuru.com, TNG earlier reported how the state Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi who has since fell out with his boss (Akeredolu) was finalising plans to join ex-governor Mimiko’s Zenith Labour Party after losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket to Eyitayo Jegede, a former commissioner in Mimiko’s administration.

Akeredolu said the reports were untrue, puerile and utterly mischievous.

He described such reports as cleverly laid path for two friends to engage in a needless mudslinging.

The Ondo Governor who spoke through is Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said it was not his desire “to travel such pernicious path typical of those who have taken the route of perfidy for sake of their political ambitions.

“We have since wished them well even in their self-inflicted tears of treachery and betrayal.

“Clearly too, the former Governor, in Governor Akeredolu’s view, is well acquainted with the antecedents of those who have chosen to embrace any straw, including those they had mindlessly plotted against in the past, to keep their waning political comfort zones afloat.

“Nonetheless, while Governor Akeredolu has nothing against his friend and immediate past predecessor, he has chosen to allow posterity to intercede and interpret the roles of men in whatever form.

“In this regard, the friendship of the duo shall remain unaffected by the current political permutations, alignments and realignment, however impotently strange. Governor Akeredolu shall maintain that cordiality even in the face of opportunism.

“It must, however, be noted that Governor Akeredolu remains unperturbed by forces of whatever colouration. He is resolute and unwavering in his belief that a more debilitating defeat awaits those who have chosen to travel the route of conspiracy come October 10, 2020.”

BREAKING: Akeredolu picks ex-NDDC Commissioner as running mate

Ondo Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has unveiled a former Commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Lucky Ayedatiwa as his running mate for the October 10 governorship poll.

Akeredolu, who spoke at the swearing-in of new aides, said Ayedatiwa possessed verifiable credentials.

The Governor stated the decision to pick Ayedeatiwa was taken after wide consultations with party leaders.

According to him, “The leaders of the party have made wide consultations to choose the most suitable candidate as running mate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. We have concluded that Mr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is the appropriate choice given the prevailing circumstances in the political arena at present.

”This person has been with us since the beginning of this political journey in 2012. In arriving at this choice, some important factors assisted the leaders of this great party. We have decided to sever ties with mediocrity and treachery.

“There is indeed no art to find the mind’s construction in the face. We are also not in any position to change yesterday. We must, however, allow the experiences of the immediate past to guide our decision.

” A candidate with verifiable credentials and pedigree has been chosen to complete the last part of the gubernatorial race. We may not have chosen a saint and the best but let it not be said that we, either wittingly or otherwise, settle for an avowed hater of human beings and good things, an enemy of his own people and a serial forger. We owe our people the duty of care in this regard”.

Akeredolu cautions PDP over alleged violence

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party against further use of alleged violence and thuggery

He claimed that the violence and thuggery, which characterised PDP’s primaries whereby part of the venue, the Dome, was destroyed, would no longer be tolerated.

He said his administration was disturbed and appealed to the PDP to exercise restraint in the deployment of violence and thuggery.

The governor said he would not hesitate to deploy the full weight of the law to protect the citizens.

Akeredolu, who spoke through his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said it was unacceptable and unimaginable that politicians would want to use violence to achieve personal aims.

He said he received credible reports that there was threat to lives and property during the PDP primary election held last Wednesday.

Akeredolu noted that recent trend of violence in the state was orchestrated following last Tuesday’s alleged attack on the home of his Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Raheem Aminu.

He said his aide escaped narrowly, but Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) captured the invaders’ activities.

The governor said: “As a responsible government, we are appealing to politicians to eschew violence because what we witnessed on the day of the PDP primary still remains unacceptable to us. Our administration will not tolerate such any longer.

“We are appealing to the people not to repeat events of 1983 as some people have threatened. We don’t want to go back to that period.

The contest must be seen to be a very peaceful one. It must be seen to be a brotherly one. We are appealing to everybody to eschew violence.”

On his reconciliation move in the APC, Akeredolu said nothing would be spared to ensure peace returned to the Ondo APC.

He said he had been pursuing peace and was happy that all leaders in the party had put behind them the primary election, placing premium on the interest of the APC.

The governor noted that his reconciliation pursuit showed that he wanted to build a formidable APC and wanted everybody to be on board before the election.

Ondo PDP spokesman Zadok Akintoye did not pick calls. He also did not respond the text messages sent to his phone.

He disclosed this to newsmen at the National Secretariat in Abuja shortly after his committee was inaugurated by National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Bello said: “On the issue of the mode of primary, this has been settled by the previous NWC and ratified by NEC, which gives the opportunity to the state executive committee to chose the mode of primary that they would want. This has been settled.

“The Ondo Primary election would be conducted via indirect mode. This was the option choosen by the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party in the last meeting. So, we are going for indirect primary.”

Eleven of the 12 aspirants have kicked against indirect primary, insisting it confers undue advantage on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is seeking reelection.

Meanwhile, the reconciliation meeting organised for the aggrieved members of the APC in Ondo State was unsuccessful as some of the aspirants failed show up for the meeting.

It was learnt on Wednesday that the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CEONCPC) has settled for indirect mode of primary.

A senior party official, who spoke in confidence said that the Caretaker Committee resolved to stick to the mode of primary adopted and conveyed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the former National Working Committee led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

It was learnt that the decision to stick to the mode of primary was reached by the CEONCPC on Sunday at a meeting in Asokoro, Abuja, where it was resolved that the party should stick to the mode earlier adopted.

A source at the meeting said that the Caretaker Committee had its hand tied due to the constitutional provision that mandates political parties to notify INEC of the mode of primary 21 days before the conduct of the party primary.

The source said: “The Caretaker Committee had to settle for the indirect primary in view of the time. From Sunday when the Caretaker met, the party had less than 21 days to the July 20 primary and in order not to fall short of INEC’s rule, the Caretaker Committee resolved to adopt the mode earlier conveyed to INECby the former NWC”.

“We have adopted the letter Oshiomhole wrote to INEC. The caretaker committee does not want to tamper with that arrangement,” an official said.
