Fagbemi, who was joined by his Information counterpart, Donald Ojogo, said that the ratification was arrived at after hours of deliberations by the council.

Ogunmolasuyi, a 47-year-old Mass Communication and Journalism graduate from the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ), emerged the town’s new monarch on Sept. 10, 2019, after polling all the five available votes from the kingmakers to beat his only challenger, Prince Olawole Folarin, who had no vote.

Ondo Governor, Akeredolu speaks on convoy crushing okada rider

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has denied that his convoy crushed an Okada rider identified as Jimoh Aladeniyi.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, described the news trending on the social media as false.

Some reports in the social media had accused Governor Akeredolu of abandoning an accident victim caused by his convoy.

It was gathered that the late Jimoh rammed into a stationary Nissan Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) marked UK 475 KJA and parked close to the Government Technical College, Owo at about 8pm on Sunday night.

The place where the SUV was parked had been marked by the police when reporters visited the scene.

Some witnesses said the Okada rider was avoiding a clash with Governor Akeredolu’s convoy when he rammed into the parked car.

Ojogo said the clarification about the incident was necessary due to the misleading narrative that had trailed the unfortunate death of the commercial motorcyclist, who had a collision with a stationary vehicle.

Police spokesman Tee-Leo said investigation showed that the governor’s convoy didn’t hit the Okada rider.

He said he visited the accident scene to get first- hand information about the incident.

Said he: “It is good to correct the impression on the social media. Journalism is about factual reportage.

“I went with some reporters. The car involved was parked and the cyclist rammed into a stationary vehicle. It is wrong for people to say it was the governor’s convoy.

“The SUV is with us for proper investigation.”

There’s nothing anybody can do if I make my son chief of staff – Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu says Babajide, his son, worked hard during his campaign and there is nothing anyone can do if he decides to appoint him as his chief of staff.

Speaking in Akure during a dinner organised in commemoration of his third anniversary as governor, Akeredolu said his son worked harder than most members of the campaign.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governor, who is seeking another term, charged the people to put in their best so he could secure another term.

“When somebody says Baba (Babajide) is this, I just laugh at them. If I wanted to make Baba my chief of staff, he can be; did you do more than him in the campaign? Ask yourself, how many of you did more than Baba in the campaign? How many?” he asked.

“The young boy was going everywhere and all of us saw him but we decided not to because he wouldn’t want it. My son is satisfied, that’s why. If he is not, I will put him somewhere, there is nothing anybody can do. I will put him there, there is nothing you can do. Is he not my son? Is he not from Ondo state? Has he not worked?”

Akeredolu and wife with Babajide, their sonThe governor also thanked Betty, his wife, saying he is not sure if the state could have a better first lady.

“I can never forget the great work that my wife has done in this state, I am not sure you can find a better first lady, someone who has great interest in women, great interest in children, great interest in whatever is good,” he said.

“I say to people, when I look at my wife, I say, look your wife can follow you because of love but you can’t take the love of her place from her. This is someone who loves you, loves this state and equally love her own state. You can’t find a better First Lady, you can’t see cause she’s committed to women cause. I am not too sure I know many women who are in government today who are there on their own.

“It’s all her efforts fighting me every-time that you can’t be for men alone, women must be in local government, they must be chairmen.”

Akeredolu also said he is ready to confront members of Unity Forum, a faction of the party allegedly frustrating his attempt to get a second term ticket.

He said he is no longer interested in any peace meeting but “battle ready” for members of the group.

  • Nigeria’s constitution not against Amotekun, Akeredolu tackles FG

Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, says the constitution does not prohibit the establishment of a regional security outfit.

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), had declared the outfit illegal, saying security is an exclusive preserve of the federal government.

But in an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday, Akeredolu, chairman of the south-west governors’ forum, said the region will go ahead with the initiative.

“The Constitution does not prohibit us from doing what we are doing,” he said.

Akeredolu said the south-west governors will not adopt confrontation in resolving issues with the federal government.

However, he said it is the duty of the governors to protect their people, adding that the AGF should go to court if there is a perceived problem with the outfit.

“If the Attorney General made a statement, we will not go and say we want to be confrontational but after our meeting, we will take decisions as to what we will do. We don’t want any confrontation as such but we know that it is not in the place of the AGF to interpret laws. It is for the court,” he said.

“We are elected as governors to protect our people and that’s why we are the chief security officers in the state. So, it is for us to determine what we want to do for our people and we have taken that decision. Amotekun is going to go ahead, but like I said, we will meet and get back to you.”

Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, has asked thegovernors to ignore Malami, adding that the proscription of “Amotekun” by the federal government is hypocritical and discriminatory.
