Group writes Gov. Akeredolu over alleged plot to impeach deputy

An advocacy group, Ilaje Development Summit Group (IDSG), has called on Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, to intervene over an alleged plot to impeach his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The group stated this on Wednesday in an open letter to the governor, signed by its Deputy Executive Administrator, Mr. Ola Ajidibo, and made available to newsmen in Akure.

In the letter, the group noted that the state had always been in the news for positive and progressive reasons until recent events in the state.

According to the statement, the absence of the governor had led to some cabals to hijack power and thereby making the office of the deputy governor look irrelevant.

According to the group, the situation had left it with no choice than to call the attention of the governor to the various developments in the state.

It also said that the current development, especially as it concerns one of their sons, was the height of politics taken too far.

“Your Excellency is aware of our moral support for your administration and our earnest desire that nothing shall impede your vision of leaving an indelible footprint on the developmental strides.

“We were thus greatly delighted at the recent positive news of the Federal Government’s approval of Port Ondo, which is a notable feather to your cap.

“However, news of recent events in the state as you took a leave of absence has given us great cause for concern,” the group said.

According to them, given the gravity of some and potentially immeasurable negative implications, “we are left with no choice but to bring them to your attention.

“These developments are currently leaving a sour taste in the mouth of the Ilaje nation and all right-thinking citizens of Ondo.

“The untoward events seem to be underpinned by an orchestration to unlawfully impeach or remove from office, our son and your Deputy, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa,” the statement said.

The group also alleged that the state House of Assembly Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, deliberately violated the order of protocol by deliberately not acknowledging the deputy governor’s office.

The letter also claimed that the continuous harassment of the deputy governor would be seen as a deliberate plot to remove Ilaje people from political calculation in the state.

“We are particularly pained, knowing of his utmost loyalty to Your Excellency and to your administration.

“In the circumstances, we are being forced to regard the continued harassment of Hon. Aiyedatiwa as deliberate ploy to slight the Ilaje Nation from which he emerged,” it added.

The group prayed for quick recovery of the governor so that politicians taking advantage of the absence of the governor would be called to order.

Akeredolu urges Tinubu to  bring on board experts with proven capacity

The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has advised President Bola Tinubu to focus on urgent priorities rather than distractions that could hinder the progress of the new administration.

According to him, key among the priorities is the need to bring on board individuals with proven expertise to help address the enormous tasks ahead. Akeredolu, in a congratulatory message personally signed by him, urged the President to take steps to neutralise those who seek to sow division and discord among Nigerians.

He emphasised that the success of fixing the basic defects in the 1999 Constitution, as amended, will determine the depth of deliberative governance and the pattern designed to achieve development.

“As Nigeria takes yet another momentous step on her journey towards greatness, it behoves us to join all good people in the country, our friends and well-wishers from all over the world to celebrate this seamless transfer of power to a new set of elected leaders, at both the national and state levels.

“We must admonish ourselves on the need to remain focused on the socio-economic programmes for the emancipation of our people. This is not the time to gloat about the electoral victories recorded in the last general elections. It is definitely not the season for recriminations.

“The rhetoric, which conveys the divisive nuance of “we against them,” ought to have ceased with the declaration of the winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This is the moment when all the new leaders must cast aside all tendencies that promote and deepen cleavages of different hues. All hands must be deployed on deck.

“The task ahead is so enormous as to warrant attending to frivolities capable of distracting the new administration. There must be conscious attempts to bring on board only those with proven capacity with regard to expertise.

“It is our duty to encourage the new government to tread honorable path. The new thinking should anticipate active participation by the constituent units of the federation as coordinate partners in revenue generation and security of lives and property of the citizenry.”

Leadership tussle: Heed Akeredolu, stakeholders’ advice on Speakership, Group urges APC

A youth group in the All Progressives Congress, APC, APC Youth Alliance For Progress, APC-YAP, has called on the party and the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to heed the progressive and patriotic advice of some leaders of the party to jettison the present zoning arrangement.

The APC-YAP in a statement on Sunday in Abuja stressed that ignoring the well-meaning advice of prominent stakeholders like the governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, was recipe for a fractured National Assembly, especially the House of Reps.

Governor Akeredolu had in a statement titled, “Proposed APC Zoning Formula for NASS Leadership Positions is a Skewed Arrangement that Reinforces Injustice And Enhances Inequity,” noted with great concern that the purported zoning arrangement released by the party “represents early signs of steps aimed at attempts to cabin the hard-earned presidency for our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by a few individuals with eyes on ASO ROCK POWER BUTTONS.”

The youth group statement signed by Isa Pai and Wahab Adeyemi noted that it “stands logic on the head for the party to reward indolence and perpetrate injustice at a time for inclusion and national healing. It is urgent for the party to discard the notion of handpicking officers for the 10th House of Reps. Nigerians are already wary of the party and not attempt should be made to reinforce the idea that the party does not care about party development and democracy.”

Referencing the Ondo governor, the APC-YAP wondered why the party that allowed an open field in the presidential primaries will now micro zone offices for the National Assembly as if it was a department of the party.

Akeredolu had stated, “It is an insidious permutation that North-east will be deprived in the face of the unsavoury generosity dispensed through two slots to a particular geo-political zone. It is self-repudiating for one to argue, therefore, that the Speaker of the House of Representatives cannot also emerge from the North-east.”

Gov. Akeredolu imposes 24 hour curfew on Ondo community

Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko Northeast Local Government Area, following a fracas during a New Year carnival.

Pandemonium broke out in the town on Tuesday when a New Year carnival organised by the youths was disrupted by sporadic gun shots that rent the air.

Reports from Ikare said that revelers at the event and residents in the area took to their heels scampering for safety.

According to sources, the disruption of the carnival by suspected gunmen might not be unconnected with the supremacy battle between the Owa-Ale and the Olukare of Ikare, the two traditional rulers in the town.

In August 2022, the state government had elevated the Owa-Ale to the status of a first class traditional ruler, making the town to have two first class obas.

The announcement of the curfew is contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Akure by Mr Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.

The statement said that the decision to impose the curfew was made at the State Security Council meeting headed by the governor on Thursday.

“This follows the escalated violent clash in the town since Tuesday, which has continued unabated, in spite of the meeting held between government and the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh and Owa Ale of Iyometa, Oba Adeleke Adegbite, to control their subjects.

“Security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order, just as investigations are already on to unravel the real cause(s) of the violent clash.

“For emphasis, Ikare Akoko has been closed down for any unathourised human movement and activity until further notice,” the statement said.(c

Ondo govt commences implementation of child protection law

The Ondo State Government has commenced the implementation of a child protection law in a bid to protect the rights of children in the state.

To this end, the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence has formed a partnership with an international agency, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy to validate the child protection policy draft and had concluded plans to embark on sensitization of the people on the new policy.

Speaking at the programme on Thursday, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the Country Representative of WFD, Mr. Adebowale Olorunmola, explained that the policy was put in place to protect children under 18 years against violence at school, at home and on the streets.

According to him, the sustenance of the law relied much on the support and participation of all stakeholders including parents, teachers, public institutions, security agencies and the citizenry.

He said, “The essence of the validation is to ensure nothing is left missing and that nothing that was not agreed on is added.

“There is a consensus reached that the document is necessary for the protection of our children in schools and that schools are made conducive and welcoming for the children. Not only in schools but other places where children encounter hardship to ensure they are protected, safe and not violated.

“There is a need for awareness to be created and no single institution can do this. All stakeholders must ensure this is done including the fourth estate of the realm.”

In her remark, the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, called on parents, teachers and non-teaching staff in schools to ensure a conducive and welcoming environment for pupils.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of OSAAGBV, Barrister Bolanle Afolabi, the Ondo first lady said government agencies couldn’t do it alone, but all stakeholders must play their individual roles.

Afolabi, who spoke with journalists after the event, said her agency in collaboration with all necessary stakeholders, including traditional rulers, would soon begin sensitization and education of the people about the contents of the policy across the 18 local government areas of the state.

“As an agency, we will monitor all the schools to ensure that all individualized policies are duly implemented in all schools in Ondo State.

“We are also to collect data of all abuses that might have occurred in schools and to ensure justice is done.

The right of students in schools must be protected, ” she submitted.
