Sunday Igboho, other Yoruba nation agitators snub Akeredolu’s warning, ground Akure with protests

Commercial activities in Akure, the Ondo State capital, were on Saturday grounded as hundreds of persons trooped out to join the Ilana Omo Oodua rally.

Ilana Omo Oodua, a group agitating for a sovereign Yoruba nation stormed Akure in continuation of its support rally in all the Southwest States.

Vehicular traffic was diverted from the busy Oba Adeshida.

Some traders packed up their wares and closed their shops to avoid hoodlums from looting their goods in case the rally turned violent.

The rally moved from the Isikan Roundabout to the Oba Adeshida road before proceeding to the Deji of Akure’s palace where Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo known as Sunday Igboho, addressed Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.

Igboho said there was no going back on the demand for a Yoruba nation and reiterated his stand that there would be no election in the South-West states in 2023.

He called on all Yoruba people to be united and stopped being slaves to the northerners.

He said, “We are in Akure to demand Yoruba Nation and now is the time for the actualization of Yoruba nation of our dream and we are ready to employ all peaceful means to achieve this.

“We are tired of the oppression, our traditional rulers have been relegated to the background, our political leaders have little or no regard for our traditional institutions, this must be reversed and power should reside with our traditional rulers.

“We have the resources to develop our Yoruba nation but all these had been siphoned to develop another region but now is the time to save the Yoruba nation from slavery.

“We have the support of our governors in the southwest, and I want to assure them that this rally across the southwest region will not lead to violence.

“We are here to receive your blessing and support and we can assure you that with you on our side, all our dreams will come to reality, we stand for the peaceful dissolution of Nigeria and any violent person during our rallies is a mole planted among us.”

Deji of Akure who was represented y the Edemo of Akure, High Chief Afolabi Fayehun, urged Adeyemo and his followers to be focused and avoid violence.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had earlier warned Igboho and other agitators to stay away from Ondo as the state is happy being a federating unit of Nigeria and not interest interested in being part of a Yoruba nation.

TNG reports that a similar protest took place in Osun State Capital, Osogbo last week.

Open Grazing Ban: You have a terrible, anachronistic mindset, Gov Akeredolu tells AGF Malami

    Emman Ovuakporie

Apparently disappointed by the comments of the Attorney General to Government of the Federation, AGF Abubakar Malami on ban of open grazing in Southern Nigeria, Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has said the minister has a terrible and anachronistic mindset.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports the governor’s reaction on Malami’s comment in a statement he issued on Thursday.

    Read full statement below:

I have just read the press statement credited to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Shehu Malami SAN on the resolution of the Southern Governors Forum to ban open grazing in their respective States. The AGF is quoted to have said that this reasoned decision, among others, is akin to banning all spare parts dealers in the Northern parts of the country and is unconstitutional.

It is most unfortunate that the AGF is unable to distill issues as expected of a Senior Advocate. Nothing can be more disconcerting. This outburst should, ordinarily, not elicit response from reasonable people who know the distinction between a legitimate business that is not in anyway injurious and a certain predilection for anarchy. Clinging to an anachronistic model of animal husbandry, which is evidently injurious to harmonious relationship between the herders and the farmers as well as the local populace, is wicked and arrogant.

Comparing this anachronism, which has led to loss of lives, farmlands and property, and engendered untold hardship on the host communities, with buying and selling of auto parts is not only strange. It, annoyingly, betrays a terrible mindset.

Mr Malami is advised to approach the court to challenge the legality of the Laws of the respective States baning open grazing and decision of the Southern Governor Forum taken in the interest of their people. We shall be most willing to meet him in Court.

The decision to ban open grazing stays. It will be enforced with vigour.

  • Why I won’t return two vehicles in my possession, Ex-Ondo Dep Gov replies Akeredolu

Why I won’t return two vehicles in my possession, Ex-Ondo Dep Gov replies Akeredolu

Immediate past Ondo Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi has said he is in possession of two official vehicles and not four demanded to be returned by Ondo State Government.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had earlier vowed to press charges against Agboola if the vehicles in his (Agboola) possession are not returned.

The vehicles are: Land Cruiser SUV, New Toyota Hilux, New Toyota Hilux and Toyota Hilux.

In a petition to Ondo Police Command, Governor Akeredolu through his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr. Doyin Odewale, urged the police to help recover the vehicles.

But Agboola who spoke through his media aide, Allen Sowore, said he returned all vehicles in his possession on February 23rd, the day his tenure ended except two vehicles- a Land Cruiser and a Hilux Jeep.

Agboola stated that he is entitled to those two vehicles just like other former Deputy Governors in the state.

He said one of the vehicles being demanded was at a mechanic workshop in Okitipupa while the other was still with the dealer because full payment has not been made.

The former Deputy Governor said Akeredolu should be prepared not to take any government vehicle at the end of his tenure if he (Agboola) is made to return the two vehicles.

His words: “The former Deputy Governor has joined senior citizens in this state. He should be accorded such respect. On February 23rd when his tenure ended, civil servants came and collect all government vehicles expect a Land Cruiser and Hilux jeep which are part of his statutory benefit.

“He is to go home with those two vehicles. He is not holding onto any government vehicles. All other former Deputy Governors in this state are using government vehicles. Nobody should because of politics use indecent language on the former Deputy Governor.

“Let the police invite him. He will explain himself. He is not afraid. One of the other two vehicles had accident. It is at Okitipupa while the dealer is yet to deliver the second one.”

Attempts by ‘Northern traders’ to make food weapon of war points to need for self-sufficiency – Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has said the attempt to make food a weapon of war by some individuals has underscored the need to be food-sufficient in the state.

Recall that cattle and foodstuff dealers under the aegis of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria on Thursday, February 25, stopped food supplies from the North to the southern parts of Nigeria in protest of attack on their members.

Governor Akeredolu, who emphasized the need to be proactive, stressed that the task requires the involvement of all and sundry, urging the people to participate more in farming.

While distributing drip lines, seeds, seed trays, fertilizers and other inputs to farmers and some secondary schools, the Governor said the move was part of his commitment to boost food security and address the problem occasioned by drought as experienced for ten weeks in the year 2020.

He stated that the distribution exercise was another landmark effort of his administration at bequeathing to the State a legacy of food sufficiency and zero tolerance to food crisis.

He noted that his administration’s resolve is to make food available to all and sundry through provision of sustainable agricultural materials to farmers of different categories in the State.

Governor Akeredolu spoke on Tuesday at the Flag Off of the Sale of Subsidized Agricultural Materials to the State Farmers and Distribution of Drip Irrigation Materials to Ondo State Secondary Schools held at the premises of the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Center (OSAEC) Alagbaka, Akure.

While identifying the adverse effects of the recurring herdsmen/Farmer crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic on the rate of the developmental efforts in agriculture, the Governor said his administration will leave no stone unturned in putting an end to the malaise with a view to boosting agricultural productivity.

“The need for us to be proactive has become expedient, more so, to forestall the problem of drought as experienced last year and to keep farming activities for at least three cycles per year.

“In response to this, our administration has deemed it fit to alleviate the challenges of farmers in the State through procurement of agricultural tools and machinery such as planters, maize shellers, irrigation equipment, inputs and seedlings, “Governor Akeredolu said.

Arakunrin Akeredolu said in fulfillment of his electioneering promise, the state is gradually moving away from rain-fed agriculture to irrigation system so that the farmers can plant all-year-round, noting that with irrigation, the farms will be adequately watered and the challenge of drought will be confronted head-on.

“This is the reason we are distributing drip irrigation kits and other ancillary materials to our schools for them to establish their food crops and vegetables farms.

“We are going to follow up schools that benefit from this programme. There will be reward for success and sanction for failure. We are also poised to make maize available to our poultry farmers. That is why our government is making available simple planting and shelling equipment. In essence, we can practice agriculture without stress,” the Governor said.

Ondo not interested in your ‘Yoruba Nation’ agenda, Akeredolu warns Igboho, others

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has warned Sunday Igboho and others agitating for a sovereign Yoruba State to stay away from the state.

Akeredolu said Ondo people have elected to stay in the Federal Republic of Nigeria as constituted at present.

He said no part of the entire state, known and delineated as Ondo State, would permit any gathering or agitation which may suggest, however remotely, that the people are in support of what he termed ‘unthinking rabble rousing.’

Akeredolu who spoke while swearing in Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu as the new Secretary to the State Government and other Special Advisers said the state would not subscribe to banditry and recklessness in putting forth its demands.

He said the right of citizens to discuss, agitate and even fight to right perceived wrongs, culminating in self-determination, must be done within known and acceptable parameters and all concerned must agree to pursue the same objectives to achieve a desirable or desired end.

He noted that the reasons for the declaration of hostilities must not be fleeting fancies of disaffection engendered by perceived politics of exclusion for personal benefits.

Akeredolu who condemned attack on the convoy of the Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, urged security agencies to unmask the agents of darkness bent on throwing the country into a state of anarchy.

Insecurity: South-West governors ready to fight criminality with every legal means – Akeredolu

Chairman of the South West Governors Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that all governors in the region shall fight criminality with every legal means for Nigeria’s sake.

Akeredolu, made the remarks yesterday spoke at a public lecture titled: ”Towards A New Nigeria: From Federal Fatherism To A Common Wealth,” as part of the activities marking his second term inauguration.

He also dismissed the views held by some Northern governors and leaders that Amotekun was established to tackle ethnic nationality or business, adding that “what we have set out to do in the South Western States is not targeted at any ethnic nationality or business.

Akeredolu’s words: “We are against criminality and we shall fight criminality with every legal means. It is in the interest of our collective wellbeing.

“All we require is the support and understanding of all federating units, including the Federal Government. The simple truth is that we have lived in self-denial amid an excruciating pain that is almost cancerous now.

“Notwithstanding our challenges today, my firm belief in the Nigerian Project is strengthened by my fact of being a true Nigerian.”

“That I desire a more United Nigeria with every ingredient of freedom, rule of law, patriotism, love, mutual respect and harmony is an understatement. And I am prepared to fight for it legitimately for the benefit of all.”
